So my personal opinion is the price we're going to pay is at least 10 times higher, in human lives, than the alternative.

Also, consider the wars that might start as result of the horrible situation.

this would be the equivalent of all of europe sending 1/5 doctors to italy to contain it

while mobilizing 10m+ government employees to handle the logistics of transporting food and PPE to people in hubei

They also took care of welding up people into their homes IIRC.

essentially people just could not leave and had essentials delivered to them, and they put in some of the most draconian PPE, distancing and testing rules imaginable

China is a country built to survive things like this by whatever means necessary. But western countries aren't in the mindset of doing 'whatever means necessary'.

I have no problem staying at home if really necessary. I have problem to stay at home without work, without money, and without means to buy food. And that's where we're headed.

That's why Czechia has opted for time slicing instead. The most vulnerable group has a dedicated 2-hour time window only for them, while the rest of the population gets to spread out over the rest of the day.
