@ShadowWizardisEarForYou Answered here.

4 hours later…
5:43 AM
morning
india put 1.3 billion people under general lockdown
thats bound to be the largest lockdown in human history

2 hours later…
7:14 AM
@Magisch Morgen (wanted to say Guten Morgen but considered that to be rude)
@ShadowWizardisEarForYou because I wasn't paying attention.
Could it be that non-native speakers don't understand / are used to what these ' things mean? So if the comment referred to here would have read do not make a new account would the user be less confused?

7:43 AM
@rene Possibly, but if English is enough of a barrier for them they won't get it either way.
Worth a shot.

It is like advice from the Government: sometimes misunderstood by loads of people ...

@rene yeah, not really much good about this morning

8:00 AM
@rene Sometimes. Other times it's just like the Brazilian government: refusing to understand.

I mean, trump wants the USA to be back to normal before easter

@Mast Yeah, I just say that report in my news feed and went ?
@Magisch with the stats coming from NY I don't think that will be the reality on easter ....

@rene With the stats from around here, Europe won't be back to normal at Easter either.

@Mast That is true. I'm looking at July, at a minimum
@Magisch just ... wow ...

8:06 AM
(This headline is not sensationalized by the way - I literally copied it from the article)

With news like this, it's simply not necessary to sensationalize it. It's stupid enough as it is.

> WE CANNOT LET THE CURE BE WORSE THAN THE PROBLEM ITSELF. AT THE END OF THE 15 DAY PERIOD, WE WILL MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHICH WAY WE WANT TO GO!

Trump might regret that if too many of his voters do not survive due to his current policy...

I got nothing on this, I'm just rather shocked we're having the discussion of if 3 million + dead people is an acceptable price to pay to save someone's profits

@rene Considering he has a relatively rich democratic behind him, they have the higher chance of success.
So technically it would be his opposition dying.

8:24 AM
@Mast Damned virus could have picked sides in the political arena ....

I really don't think they'll go that way once there are also situations like in Italy or Spain in parts of the US.

you mean like in NYC right now?
NYC is only a few weeks ahead of the rest of the US

'A few weeks' is quite a difference with this crisis.
For example, look at the difference between NLD and Germany. I think there's 30 days between their 'patient 0'.

@Magisch like NYC in a few days

I though NYC was already rather bad considering what cuomo had to say

8:31 AM
They're not at overflowing ICUs yet as far as I understand

not at that, but it's pretty damn bad
they're still hoping to avoid overflowing ICUs

@Rob oh. I forgive @rene.

@Magisch to do that they probably would have had to act two weeks ago

@Magisch it's not "someone's profits", it's whole countries finance system. Without finance, people will starve to death. And more than 3 million.
So my personal opinion is the price we're going to pay is at least 10 times higher, in human lives, than the alternative.
Also, consider the wars that might start as result of the horrible situation.

this is essentially the trolley problem, except not even experts are in agreement on what is on each side

8:37 AM
you can't really save the economy as long as dead bodies are piling up.

@Magisch Thank you, that's it exactly.

picture a scenario where all containment is abandoned. 3 million dead from the virus alone - thats a conservative projection, it could easily go to 6 or 7 or even 10 million if the hospital system collapses

So give money to hospitals.

and then anything that needs a hospital stay to survive becomes a direct and total death sentence

Create 100 new hospitals.

8:38 AM
you can't buy extra hospital workers
there ain't any

that doesn't work that fast

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou With all the relevant equipment? In 2 weeks? How.

It will cost billions, but won't kill economy.
@Mast China did it.
(think in one week)

our health minister talked about this yesterday, the limiting factor of respirator spots here isn't respirators, it's nurses who can operate them

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou In China, people listen when you tell them to do something.
Try that anywhere else in the world.

8:39 AM
you can't just throw money at a problem that grows at an exponential rate, you have to flatten the curve to have a chance at this

china bussed in over 20% of all ICU doctors and nurses from a country with over 1.2 billion people in it
into a province smaller then germany
this would be the equivalent of all of europe sending 1/5 doctors to italy to contain it

^^

and may I note china also shut down its entire economy and put in a general curfew (no work, no nothing) for 2 months
while mobilizing 10m+ government employees to handle the logistics of transporting food and PPE to people in hubei

@Magisch how did it work for groceries? home delivery?

@ThiefMaster I suspect the local Party representatives took care of the logistics.

8:41 AM
@ThiefMaster government employees from other provinces were bussed in to stamp out a super large scale grocery and medicine delivery network

They also took care of welding up people into their homes IIRC.

essentially people just could not leave and had essentials delivered to them, and they put in some of the most draconian PPE, distancing and testing rules imaginable

China is a country built to survive things like this by whatever means necessary. But western countries aren't in the mindset of doing 'whatever means necessary'.

I have no problem staying at home if really necessary. I have problem to stay at home without work, without money, and without means to buy food. And that's where we're headed.

they shut down a province of 60 million people entirely with a full general quarantine and mobilized the rest of the 1.2 billion people country to support the province during it

8:43 AM
@ShadowWizardisEarForYou And who's going to pay your salary the next 4 weeks if you stay at home?

@Mast not relevant, my whole work place is shutting down.
Because of the lockdown.
(It's a small place with no reserves)

Welp, I guess you're all going to die from hunger instead of Corona then.

Eventually, yes.

I don't know, I have a feeling back to "business as usual" will be physically impossible even if you lift all restrictions

@Magisch now? True, it's beyond the point of no return.

8:45 AM
then we'll just get a medical catastrophe and everyone will know someone who has died drowning painfully and slowly in a hallway because the hospital was full
talk about generational trauma

The wreck ball is rolling, we can just watch it destroying the world. :(

1918 all over again.
Except no global war this time, which should help a lot.
Survivable by humanity, but not by all humans.

I'm afraid we'll have a global war sooner or later, as indirect result of the Corona. (i.e. not directly as a result, but the chain of events started because of the Corona will lead to it.)

Oh, we'll have a global war sooner or later regardless of Corona.

But meh.... better relax and have fun while we can. :D
!!/coffee world

8:48 AM
@ShadowWizardisEarForYou brews a cup of Macchiato for @world

Large cup.

spits who put coffee in my tea!?

@Mast 1B liters cup!

lol

8:49 AM
throwing @Gimby to jail for trying to infect people with Corona
:P

They shouldn't have been in my home to begin with.

@Mast nah, the world leaders are not smart and not responsible, but in the era before the Corona they had enough things to hold them back from starting a real war. But that's in the past.
@Gimby but they brought you coffee! ;D

9:20 AM
@JNat cross site spammer, even in those troubled times. Thanks! :)
!!/coffee g3rv4 because I think he needs one

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou brews a cup of Americano for @g3rv4

You still stick with your decision of having only one upgrade? ;)
@Mith morning... how you doing? Stuck 24/7 at home with all the family? Can you at least go out to buy food?

Yes, and so far we're allowed to go out if we're not interacting with other people, so I can like head out to the forest if I need to get away from people :P Of course, there was a dust storm yesterday, so I couldn't leave the house.....

@Mithical well, as of few minutes ago, nobody is allowed more than 100 meters away from their home anymore, unless it's for work or buying food. (To some limit)
Dunno when they'll send police and army to enforce it, but that's a new and clear order.

who is the PM atm in israel?

9:26 AM
Netanyahu right?

Nobody

@Magisch same as we had last 10 years. BB

we have no government :P

@Mast yup
@Mithical we do... it just has no means to operate, but it exists.

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou Oh. Missed that. Welp.

9:27 AM
@ShadowWizardisEarForYou So, not only will you run out of money, everyone with money will still run out of food?

rip
I was at the grocery store yesterday, it's haunting

Ninja edits.

@Mithical read the news. :/

keep distance lines everywhere, limits on how many people can be in at one time, large lines at the registers due to distance

I just got up! :P

9:29 AM
@Mast nah, worst case scenario is soldiers bringing food to people.
All my dark visions are for the future after Corona.

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou What's the percentage of people in the military in IL?
Enough to make that actually happen?
Over here, that would go so wrong.

@Magisch here they started to allow only 10 people inside the super market at a time.
@Mithical so you were down before that? ;)

kudos, visiting australia at this time of year

@Mast yes, we don't need a lot. One soldier can deliver food to 1000 people in a day.

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou Here some of the supermarkets only allow one person per 10m2.

9:31 AM
@Mast why? In what aspect?

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou Because they'd need a quarter at the base just to keep the logistics from going wrong and there's not enough people left to get to the rest.

@Mast well here people won't listen to such order, so only way is to just not allow more than 10 at a time, even in big place.
@Mast hmm... good point. Well, we're not there yet, super markets still open and people allowed to go there.
But this might also change soon.
Open markets were closed already earlier this week.
Luck is still with us, 3 dead over 2000 proved infected.
Guess that's why we're still not in total lockdown, enforced by army.

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou About 277 on 5580 here.
But that 5580 is in reality much, much higher since tests are done very selectively.

Yeah number of deaths made a steep rise since monday...

So if you only allow 10 people inside at a time ... what do you do with the rest? Why, put them less then 2m from each other, of course!

@JohnDvorak Naturally, queued up as a bunch at the door.

That's why Czechia has opted for time slicing instead. The most vulnerable group has a dedicated 2-hour time window only for them, while the rest of the population gets to spread out over the rest of the day.

They tried that here in some stores, mixed results.

10:01 AM
@JohnDvorak when they're outside they're not in the responsibility of the supermarket anymore.
(i.e. "Someone's Else Problem")

Ah, yes, the SEP field.

China's problem

Too bad we don't have a World King in such cases. :P

To lock himself in a bunker? No, thanks

lol
RIVM (national health agency) is mildly positive now their idea of what the spreadingsfactor is has been reduced to around 1. Uhm...
Considering their information has been behind-the-time for the entire year, that's no good.

10:08 AM
spreading factor of 1 only means the number of current cases will remain stable

You're sticking out a tongue, but Revelations does predict a global government. There's not much time before the end of the world, but one or two world councils already exist, they just need to be given more authority over their membership countries

@JohnDvorak With the way we're going, there's probably going to be 5-8 world governments competing with each other.

And dragons will return too?

yes.

@Magisch And with the current predictions we're still going to need twice the amount of IC space we could possibly generate, so...

10:10 AM
a bearded dragon
and he will be cute and you will cuddle him and call him squishy

King of the south and King of the north? USSR and USA are two big guys in the pool, but they're not in the correct relative geographical positions.

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou Only to fight over the spoils

@JohnDvorak tilt the map

@Mast I don't know. I'm torn between pessimism and trying not to be pessimistic

10:11 AM
@ShadowWizardisEarForYou Yes, that's in Revelations 12 I think.

@JohnDvorak King of + UTC and - UTC

so many people seem to think we're 2 weeks away from right back to normal

BUT IT WILL NEVER BE THE SAME . . . DUN DUN DUUUUN

we could be 2 weeks from power failures. Or 2 hours if the right people get sick.
Could be global, even. The way electricity mainlines are routed, if one goes down, all go.

@JohnDvorak I happen to know those can be separated, so if all goes down they'll be restarted locally within the day.

10:14 AM
Gets firewood ready

@JohnDvorak here you go:

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou US + China it is.
Oh, besides, the poles of the earth are walking.
So, wait long enough...

@Mast China would be master of coin

I only accept Putin Lannister as my king
And Dwayne Johnson as the US king

10:17 AM
one day of blackout is enough to set off a worldwide tantrum spiral. And that assumes that he relevant people won't be too sick to restart the network. In here, the relevant guys live under permanent lockdown so that no-one gets sick. But that also means if one does anyways, all do.

@Mast meh, poles are overestimated. ;)

@Mast So king polar bear and king penguin?

@M.A.R. here is your king!

Ugh, who colored it purple

It looks less threatening

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou Here you go:

@Rob who's the king?

Duke Nukem.

Rob
@ShadowWizardisEarForYou It's not Fred!

1:38 PM
About those dragons hummm

Dear Santa, for Christmas I want a pair of leather gloves and a partially eaten chickatrice corpse. In this order.

why partially eaten btw?

so it's lighter

ah, is that a thing :O
/me should check the nethack wiki

There was just one problem—when we built the app and queried the domain, it was such a memory hog. Except I couldn’t let it go. It kept bugging me. Was it Vue.js? Was it Netlify? Was it our hacky code? I had to find out.

Strong suspicion of sock puppet account - User chat.stackoverflow.com/users/12263479 was asking about a topic, then instantly linked a newly created question stackoverflow.com/questions/60855179/…

eh, unless there's cross-account voting, i don't see any reason to be alarmed
doesn't appear to be
not against the rules to have multiple accounts

Meh, spamming in chat rooms after using sock puppet to work around tracking seems annoying to me.
oh wait, look a windmill

@Danack You can custom-flag a post and explain what you suspect, and mods would look into fishy activity
