The data explorer is entirely open source, correct?

@Mithical afaik, yea

So entirely hypothetically speaking if I were to write a feature request for it, someone could make a pull request and someone like Yaakov would simply have to merge it?

yes (again afaik)
I think @rene has written pull requests before for it

8:44 AM
@user400654 just nuke those with an userscript / user stylesheet

9:06 AM
@Mithical yes, or post a bug report. Here are some I handled: meta.stackexchange.com/…

gone too

A few weeks ago, Physics lost a greatly admired mod, who has been a member of the network since the early days: dmckee. And now, another senior member, prolific contributor and textbook author Ben Crowell has deleted his account. :(

@PM2Ring the power of welcomenes refocused renews.

Another Diablo 2 screenshot :) Ah good memories. Of Diablo 2 1.0.9, as of patch 1.0.10 the game was lost on me.

That is diablo 1

I was just thinking that
shame
on me

I know the D2 UI too well to miss that
I'm still playing it from time to time with the medianXL mod

10:21 AM
I should have known, I did give Diablo 1 another go recently when it became available on GOG. Quaint, but too easy :)

lets hope they never remaster it

wondering....
Just a check since Diablo.
Do any of you ever heard anything about a "level 17th"?
I am curious to see how widespread that rumor was back then.

I have not, the only persistent rumor I know of was the secret cow level

th'was another recurring rumor yep, but oddly enough I heard about lev. 17th far before anything about cows.

@Mithical yes

10:30 AM
I guess then that you never heard anything about this item either?

interestingly, the cow level rumor was so pervasive they actually made a cow level for d2
and then made whimsyshire and a cow level for d3

@Magisch yep, but my experience is that the cow level rumor actually became widespread after the Hellfire add-on was released.
Notice that the Map of the Stars is an item in Diablo 3.
> Poking the dead cows near Adria's Hut in the order of Middle Cow, Left Cow, Right Cow will cause the ground near a dead tree to light up, but only if you have the Map of the Stars item. If not, then you will have to try again when you have said item. The area is populated with a large number of cows that are not threatening to murder you. Near the center of the area is a chest supposedly belonging to Wirt, containing his stash and the pet Royal Calf.
less known is the fact that there was a removed "Map of the Stars" item back in Diablo 1

10:53 AM
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog gone

and in the meantime, on Meta, another question about the license lives its life.

@Magisch but does it do the needful sir?

11:39 AM
@JourneymanGeek you jest, but knowing indian english is top shelf useful
I talked to an EDI support person in Bangalore this morning

Ha, Bangalore!

none of my colleagues could understand him, especially when talking about doubts instead of questions :D
@JourneymanGeek I actually like "do the needful" as a phrase and use it occasionally myself

some people have said my english is a super weird mix of american, british, australian (mostly the swears) and indian english :D

@PM2Ring Where'd you hear about Ben deleting his account? It's still live, he's been active less than a day ago, and doesn't appear to have posted a public request to have it nuked. stackexchange.com/users/506533/ben-crowell?tab=activity

11:50 AM
@Magisch they have a doubt indeed

@DanisFiddlingbyFirelight In The h Bar, the main Physics chatroom. His posts now list the author as user4552.

Anybody know why Ben Crowell deleted his physics SE account?

@Magisch Exactly, why limit yourself to one dictionary when you have an entire world of English to mash up.

huh. Why just blow up one account though?

FWIW, here's one of Ben Crowell's popular answers. That question is often used as a dupe target. physics.stackexchange.com/a/133395/123208
@DanisFiddlingbyFirelight No idea, but it was his account with the most rep.

12:24 PM
You need to do it one by one....

@JourneymanGeek you don't really. You can write an email to support and they'll delete em all for you

Rob
12:46 PM
@PM2Ring This might have been one of Ben's last posts: physics.meta.stackexchange.com/a/12659/170832

@Magisch according to me they're only annoying if you allow them to be, sir. The Indianisms

1:52 PM
is there still a loophole where you say you're younger than a certain age and they have to delete your account and all contributions because of the COPPA?

I think that is still a thing yep, but good luck demonstrating that you are under a certain age if that's not true.

well, you could theoretically give your account to your child and have them download all the hacks for cs go :p
I just thought it would be funny to say you're like a year older than your decade old account, so that you'd have to have started using the network when you were about one year old

Even I'd admit that 1 would be a bit young.

2:24 PM
@It'sOver sir I have a doubt!

an australian vendor contact called me the C word once
was in good fun but still I was a bit oO
then again a lot of our vendors and customers curse vicariously

Did you mean Hey Jude?

There is a song in there

28
Q: Print "Hey Jude" from The Beatles

arminbYour task is to write a program which prints following four verses extracted from the lyrics from The Beatles' song "Hey Jude" (© Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC): Hey Jude, don't make it bad\n Take a sad song and make it better\n Remember to let her into your heart\n Then you can start to make it...

3:06 PM
What the heck, that "hey jude" codegolf thing is filled with black magic.
I don't know if to applaud or to call an exorcist.

mumble... so apparently either you are a student, a professional dev, an hobbyist or.... GO AWAY THIS SURVEY IS NOT FOR YOU

@Gimby code golf is always full of black magic
Well its the developer survey

Yep... I am just testing to see if the survey is as bad as usual.

@Gimby my pointy-haired manager says: less typing == higher productivity.

> Do you consider yourself a member of the Stack Overflow community?
^ weird question....
> Compared to last year, how welcome do you feel on Stack Overflow?
this one is more interesting.
It has a scale and a free text field too, wonder how it will be processed.
and the demographic section is still very odd indeed.........+

3:17 PM
Meh. I answered "no" and "no more welcome and no less welcome". Because I hold the unpopular opinion that there is no such thing as a Stack Overflow community, it's too splintered and too impersonal to talk about a community.

While most news about the 3D printing industry focuses on advancement in hardware and materials, software has played a crucial role in the democratization of 3D printing. Companies like Shapeways have delivered software to generate 3D files, prepare and optimize them for printing, and manufacture and distribute.

^ never has the author avatar for a blog post be closer to my face when reading the new ads

@BlueSoul they went into some more detail on fields like that
tl;dr machine learning

@Magisch I am moved by the gesture -_-

3:28 PM
didn't realize I'm a 20k+ now

@iBugisdisappointedinSE well, you can always give out free bounties if you don't want the points :P
@rene Tsundere. Clearly that is the answer.

> Meta users are difficult to deal with because they have fully bought into Stack Exchange. A lot them happen to be developers (or “people who code”), but that’s not their defining feature. Meta users aren’t entitled; they are passionate about the project of bringing knowledge to the masses. They see company success as a means to that end and nothing more.

7:33 PM
I know I'm difficult, thanks!

7:47 PM
my plants die all the time, so yeah, difficult

Blog Oneboxes are fixed now.
5

yay?

I allow you to feel however you wish. I like that it's not broken... so that's something.

Just out of curiosity, is twitter oneboxing deprecated or also broken? It's been gone for a long time
2
(also fair enough, I didn't mean to come across as snarky at you)

We had to close some gaps when the hack thing happened last year... and ... if I understand correctly, the Twitter API made use of one of the gaps we closed... so... I think it may be permanent.
I did actually mention it yesterday because someone said something about how easy it is to make oneboxes for chat... and the answer I got about whether it would be fixable was noncommittal.

8:02 PM
I see, thanks :)

8:35 PM
@Catija Good to know. It would be really nice if you responded to the bug report about Twitter oneboxing with this info.

smokey you're on a roll.
cleanup in isle 4!

every old answer that user wrote is also plugging the same product. The only difference is that in last years batch the answers were much more detailed and admitted the poster created it.
or at least some of them did.

I can't for my life figure out why users are upvoting completely off-topic questions at MSE:
Wrongly understood empathy for new users? Whatever?

haz gramz. dia ones 2
i liek big picture

These users have gained enough rep to upvote questions, I assume they don't deserve it :-P

@Catija Thanks! Despite everything, it feel nice to be surrounded by features that aren't too broken
@πάνταῥεῖ You're undermining democracy, much wow
Impeaches @πάνταῥεῖ

Well, dumbness and democracy are orthogonal things, no?

I don't have a protractor

10:28 PM
@It'sOver Touché :D
