10:00 PM
It's a siege weapon that shoots sharpened metal plates instead of boulders. French invention.

@canon OK, I'm interested

@Rob The spray can effects are lame but holy crap there's a giant red half-stop sign floating in the sky

The stop sign is cool, but I'm more impressed by those ultra-thin engine mounts

10:04 PM
Chemtrails are a hoax. They're fluorinating the water supplies!

they're trying to vaccinate us so we don't see that the Earth is flat

@AndrasDeak how amazing an actual vaccine against hoaxes would be though

well life would be much better on all levels if there were a cure for idiocy

I'd rather have my meal of free will, thank you very much
Oh dangit, this meal was made with fluorinated water!

Rob
@It'sOver It means don't dump jet fuel on your school. You don't have real Internet (remember), do you want the video link?

10:08 PM
I like that American conspiracy theorists think commies did it and Russians think Americans did it
Here in Iran people think "THEY" did it

I’m proud of Undo for taking a stand
2

@Rob Hey, don't keep reminding me, at least i.stack.imgur is back!

Make them do the unthinkable

@GeorgeStocker I don't think they fear anything beyond loss of profit :/

the wheel war continues: it just got unfeatured again

10:11 PM
Yeah, as much as I'd like the people responsible for all the wildfire to feel the heat, it's not happening
@Magisch Rollback count is still 1
Don't be dramatic

They are. This is incredibly hurtful to the image as a trusted developer resource. That’s their biggest brand cachet right now
Aka, don’t interrupt your enemy when they’re making a mistake

sad that we're viewing it in terms of enemies now
but i guess we're at that point

Rob
@It's ^^, if you can see that comment.

what comment?

10:14 PM
@Magisch (It’s a term of art)
And a quotation sooo

@Magisch I think he meant message, vs. censorship

@GeorgeStocker All I can hope is what you say is true. I'm neither a developer nor have been bound by these . . . "western", if you may, shackles as of yet

@GeorgeStocker do non-meta, non-power-user stakeholders really know about all this kerfuffle? Will it impact their investment outlook? Will it impact their public image?

We're back to that discussion again

as long as "oh no, stackoverflow is down, millions of developers lose their jobs" is a joke they profit

10:16 PM
@GeorgeStocker Not much of a stand, but thanks anyway :)

dammit!
@Undo-ReinstateMonica I second that, for what it's worth. I'd do exactly the same in your shoes.

Undo has tiny shoes

Maybe it’ll inspire other moderators to do it too

booties, actually
@GeorgeStocker For what it's worth, this is the most unified I've ever seen the team.

I believe it

10:17 PM
@Undo-ReinstateMonica are you gonna keep doing it?

It's... sad... that it took this much to get us there, but it was only me because I got there first.

or rather, is the SO mod team going to

@Magisch Was a targeted move to force staff to make that policy public. Not interested in a rollback war with staff now that it's a public policy.

Can't speak for the others.

Stack Overflow moderators have a powerful position that other site mods don’t: their workload is the highest and requires constant attention
If they start dropping the site goes downhill fast
That’s why this action is pretty powerful. If anyone can get SE to blink, it’s them.
12

we're here for you (plural), Undo

10:19 PM
@GeorgeStocker As much as I absolutely hate the twitter platform and thread-monologue style of extended writing, I really appreciated your history lesson a few hours ago

And if SE doesn’t blink for this, then the moderators will be fired and the site will implode quickly

Current flag queue is stable at mid triple digits, though as @GeorgeStocker knows it's usually three or four people pulling most of the weight.
(I haven't looked recently, that's just how it usually is)

You basically need a mod full time on meta and ask undo said, thee or four to keep the queue at bay

@GeorgeStocker That depends. If they don't actually keep featuring it nobody will really know

@Rob well that was fun! "decontaminated . . . with soap and water"

10:25 PM
@Undo-ReinstateMonica is the featured flag still usable by moderators?

Rob
@It'sOver They allowed that, progress. I recall you saying not to directly reply with links to that site. Have things changed?

@GeorgeStocker Don’t have any reason to think it’s not

Was wondering if they would turn it off te
temporarily so there won’t be an edit war

META REPLACEMENT LEAKED! stackoverflow.uservoice.com

err, hasn't that always been there
at least for the last few years

10:39 PM
it was obviously a joke, jeez

@Sklivvz almost like everyone's nerves are on a razor's edge :D
don't let that deter you from joking though

That sentence hits too close to home

Yeah, I though that's the most accurate part

@GeorgeStocker I had some today and made a MSE post
now I have egg on my face
2/10 wouldn't recommend

Egg? From what post?

10:43 PM
@Magisch why do you have egg on your face? You posted a calm, civil and constructive post. I'm not sure I agree with everything, but it's something to be proud of.
I guess it's been downvoted now, but so what? You should still be proud. Whether it actually achieves anything or not is irrelevant, that was an honest effort.

free rep on a meta site that may or may not exist this time next year

Dude, @Magisch, it's at +64! Where's the egg? I don't see no frickin egg!

Q: Time for a major shift in strategy and approach

MagischThis post is addressed to the people who still believe they have a future at stack exchange, and who still hold up some hope that there can be a way out of this mess. If you have no such hope left, I can certainly understand that and don't begrudge you. I myself am not sure, but I feel compelled ...

Presumably.

Ah. I felt like it was optimistic in a time where we need hard choices, but I admire the optimism

@terdon I just thought the next outrage episode would be a bit longer away then like 8 hours

Ah, well.

10:46 PM
or maybe, naively, perhaps, that there wouldn't be a next one for a while

Unlikely. I bet there'll be another one real soon.

same

You don't just fire Shog and call the war over...

next monday

@terdon But I'm not trying to guess what it will be; I'm not creative enough to try.
perhaps they'll abolish downvotes

10:48 PM
I don't even want to touch that. We'll find out soon enough. And we will not be happy.

see I told myself I wouldn't get discouraged by the expected swath of replies

they'd be pretty bad at aligning stuff if we were happy

I overestimated my ability to not be affected by a bit it seems
time to sleep on it. Night everyone

Take care

good luck

11:05 PM
@Rob well, it often bears the implication that I can normally see videos and that I should respond to the message, which I often can't. I used the VPN on this one, and they're often slow and painful to start over here. Of course, I'm not annoyed when you or anyone else does it. I can't remember the last time I genuinely got annoyed at someone in SE chats, folks here are awesome.
@Magisch whoa whoa whoa. That's one of the best things I've recently seen on meta. You've got nothing to take back.
Even a lot of folks that disagree with you would agree with that, I think.
So I dunno what you needed to be encouraged to do exactly but don't be put off by the responses. Go get 'em, avian tiger
Inb4 it's world domination

@GeorgeStocker check your DMs on twitter

@Sklivvz that's a name I have not seen in a long time
@Magisch oh that's official now?

11:20 PM
@JourneymanGeek Yeah. They actually, really, truly went public with it.

Thanks

ert
Great way to start my morning

Good
I'm going to repost my mods answer later

Rob
@It'sOver Understood.

11:33 PM
welp, at least they probably won't push to prod unemployment on a Friday

How long till new elections?

@AndrasDeak 🤣

@user400654 Elections are so last year. I think they'll just appoint a sufficiently diverse group

ert
I feel sorry for the future poor souls who are elected

The next round of them i suspect will be very entertaining

11:35 PM
@ert I don't. Good mod candidates should be fully aware of what's going on

ert
At least I had a good year of moderating for a site I cared about

they even... robbed... you of your name :'(

ert
By a CM, in this room, no less

harsh!

ert
(That's a joke by the way, I asked them to change it :))

11:37 PM
I saw ;) I hate to admit it but I couldn't figure out on my own what your name refers to so I looked at the transcript...

ert
Heh, I'm in here so infrequently I still do a double take when I see the name

A stranger looking back in the mirror :D

@ert do you think the Mod election will be featured more then 48 hours?

heh

11:41 PM
Unless it's negative

so...can I soapbox in a mod election post?

I can hardly imagine a positive mod election now.

the first good reason ever for me to nominate

lol

@AndrasDeak for 6 to 8 minutes ...

ert
11:42 PM
@rene Haha. Though, I suspect the next election will be... Interesting

it will be over in a blur ...

@AndrasDeak sure

I'm way overdue ... I'm out, need sleep.
