@Machavity They're already on my list.

@Catija That's all I needed. Thanks :)

Ooof, 30% handling rate... that's so sad.
Good reopen review rate, though... I'm guessing the mods are doing a lot of that, though... let's see.
Eh... not as much as I was expecting...

12:24 AM
Morning

Rob
^^ Unfortunately on that site we have a well written question, a one-liner answer saying "yes" (that's vote supported) and there are three answers against (arguing against the way regular users are assisting with moderation, doing reviews). Kind of like having hammering needing being done, giving out screwdrivers, but they're not proficient with either tool (on DIY.SE no less).

A real hammer is quite different from a metaphorical one.

12:45 AM
@Rob Colloquially, people think SE is a "mean place" because they "closed a question I liked". One of the posts against listed a specific incident, rather than a culture problem
@Catija I see a lot of questions in the 2-3 range in the CVQ. And with only about 6 or so regulars reviewing, one person can veto a closure

@Machavity Some people reply "Thank you for finding the duplicate, it resolves my complaint" or "Thanks for for reminding me that I was on the wrong site". There are people, from time to time, that when things don't work out the way they planned are upset. I posted a helpful answer in my profile a couple of years ago, I've yet to have anyone mention that they have read it.
Anytime one has to ask for things to be done properly there's a shortcoming, a weakest link somewhere.
One software fix would be to allow two voters in either direction, and for the voters 'reversed' to suffer an increment to their 'review audit' score (they get slightly more frequent audits). The experts will fly through unscathed while those whom don't work properly will spiral down.

How is "Why can't I post this question on Stack Overflow?" more on-topic on meta than when it was previously closed 11 hours ago, the tag it relies on is from 2011. If it's moved to SO it's a dupe of: 1,
2, even 3.
@JourneymanGeek

@Rob I originally closed it cause it wasn't a "Why can't I post this question on foo" question :D
It was a lost souls question
and I suspect SF would be a better place for the question proper

Rob
2:35 AM
@JourneymanGeek OK, just letting you know that you were unhammered.

2:55 AM
Which I am fine with

3:09 AM
@Rob It wasn't a programming question; it was a badly-written question about the code formatting filter. (Before you cry afoul that it's still off-topic as it's site-specific, the code filter is enabled on multiple sites which makes it on-topic here.)
We need to stop treating new meta users like pain elementals.

4:00 AM
Ooh yay, my app is published!

@Catija writing.stackexchange.com/questions/9/… - the storybook link now goes to a porn site
I flagged the comment underneath but the comment is still pending.

@Troyen Yep, can confirm (used an incognito window to test)

/me wibbles

Good morning ;)
I thought wibbling was for evenings...
transcript proves me wrong.. there have been AM Wibbles before :D

haha
it's whenever I make it as far asa a computer and am still mentally competent ;)

Aaah! :)
Finally, we know what it means ;)

8:49 AM
@JourneymanGeek ???? Weren't we trying the "Three wise monkeys" method???

Rob
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Did you mean to ping me and not @JG? --- You wrote: "Before you cry afoul that it's still off-topic ...", so as you can clearly see from the conversation that your admonishment is intended for the moderator. You can also tell from the history that I haven't voted it off-topic.

> Didn't see anything happen, didn't hear anything happen and if I did we can't talk about it.

@Hitodama I don't work here :D

9:38 AM
Didnt see nuffin, ain't doin nuffin, aint sayin nuffin.

Well, that'll be a boring day for this chatroom then.

10:14 AM
so, apparently angular material does not work in an angular elements component.

@Tinkeringbell :D
@Hitodama too many angles, extra diamentions created, blackhole forming in 3. 2. 1...

@Hitodama Aren't elements supposed to make up material, instead of the other way round? :P

Don't try to rationalise Angular, Hitodama is already close to phasing out of this dimension as we speak.

10:29 AM
to be fair, I was looking for something like this....

What's that?!

I see wooden figures of birds, I see scores, I see something that would make me think they can flip around so... some kind of game where you can shoot the birds?
Although it doesn't make much sense since there are different scores bu the birds are about the same size, so probably not :)

10:49 AM
@Gimby It is :P

Why would you shoot birds? :(

old vintage shooting gallery item, usually used in amusement parks.
@Tinkeringbell only when they make bad jokes about angular elements and materials :P

That was a good, observant remark. I wasn't joking ;)

jokes aside, there is a similar question on SO....
3
Q: Display problems on Angular Elements with Material Dialog (ShadowDom issue?)

Mike42I'm going to get in touch with Angular Elements on Angular 7 to build lightweight web components which can be simply deployed in existing web pages. First tests were promising however I've got a display trouble with dialogs based on Angular Material (MatDialog). If I build the Angular component ...

but as usual... no reply.

11:33 AM

@Mast chewing noises

@Hitodama The answer provided by Saker seems relevant though. Although I have to be very forgiving to call that an answer since it only provides a possible root cause, no actual solution or temporary workaround.

@Gimby to be fair, I think that the issue is another one... Material doesn't seem to "process" the elements as it should.
Trying to isolate the issue in a new stackblitz sample

12:14 PM
moar nuclear powaar

@djsmiley2kindarkness Are you playing Factorio? I literally said the same yesterday evening.

lol no
i've watched a few videos.
but that's pretty much my answer to everything!

I'm not even joking though. I made it a mission to build a factory without the use of solar power so I went full nuclear. And yesterday I activated 4 new reactors for power and I said... moar nuclear powerrrrr!
I got a weird look from the cat, but she's used to me talking to the computer.

:D
at least the toaster didn't laugh.
That's always disconcerting and then you need to get the priest in...
terrible business.

the toaster is in its drawer, thinking about the things it has done.

12:21 PM
@djsmiley2kindarkness or IOT.

@Troyen gone. :)

2 hours later…
2:02 PM
I can literally feel the "I HATE THIS ASSIGNMENT" coming out of this article. Yet they totally manage to make it entertaining and not a hate-write :D
> Blue Thunder. Because Airwolf is borrrrrrrrring.
Them's fighting words
(and I suspect at this point, half the room has never heard of either one of these shows, and I'm going to feel remarkably old)

@JourneymanGeek tentatively raises hand

@Magisch the show is early 80s.

2:18 PM
@JourneymanGeek I can feel the "Not going to read all of this" :P

@Hitodama I did :D

@JourneymanGeek I've heard of Airwolf
my childhood is largely forgotten to me. it's weird

@djsmiley2kindarkness you're vaguely my age

yes
I litterally have no recall of most things people talk about when they were kids.

@JourneymanGeek I'll feel old along with you. I never did like Airwolf all that much though, so I guess we have to fight.

2:20 PM
What happens when you want to forget so bad, that you even manage to forget why you forgot...

@Gimby man, I probably have the whole series somewhere when I was completely nostalgic
Never did manage to find Hunter.

@djsmiley2kindarkness If you'd look here, please?

@djsmiley2kindarkness I actually think those things are important

@JourneymanGeek welp. Either I chose to forget a load of stuff, or.... nothing interesting happened?

2:28 PM
@djsmiley2kindarkness maybe :D
But I remember a lot of useless things from then :D

@djsmiley2kindarkness Ask your parents anything you'd like to know while they're still here... My mom always complains about stuff she can't ask her parents anymore...

@Tinkeringbell my parents are pretty useless :D

Oh, mine are too, depending on what use I'm trying to make of them ;)

cough like the dryer :D

I don't want to put it like that, but I'm pretty much the walking memory for both my parents :) I even have to remind them of stuff that I shouldn't even really know about (but I was a nosy brat with exceptional hearing so I know a lot that I shouldn't know...)

2:33 PM
Oof. I try to stay out of their business as much as possible. They're doing fine without me ;)

My primary job is remembering movie titles based on the description "that movie with my favorite actor that does that thing". My mother has about a hundred favorite actors I think.

@Gimby at least yours doesn't speak in Pika whenever she is sleepy.

@Gimby Pffft!
My primary job seems to be chores, over here ;) Chores, so mom and dad can go on long walks/overnight hotel stays...

2:53 PM
ewwwwwwwwww
@Tinkeringbell oh I do, but.... this is just weird.
it's like a big.... blank
I recall random things, but never this 'culture' stuff

Admit it, you're a replicant.

@djsmiley2kindarkness Ah. That is weird...

3:16 PM
@Tinkeringbell i mean, I know I sat and watched TV some times
and I must of had loadso f toys, I recall there was big boxes
but I can't recall what was in any of them o_O

I don't remember all my toys/tv shows either. Most of what I clearly remember is from when I was 10 or older... like my Tamagotchi and dad watching Knight Rider with me each evening...
Most of the baby toys I remember, I remember because my brothers played with them too.
Oh, I had barbies and a giant purple/pink van for them, but I only vaguely remember what it exactly looked like... just that I never played with it, so the neighbor's kid got it... and mom still talks about that as if that was super bad.

hmmm toys are expensive.

@djsmiley2kindarkness legos perhaps? That was my main go-to toy as a kid before I got computers and everything went downhill :)

oooh! I had lego friends...

The big crate of lego, it's a treasured possession within the family that we make sure never gets lost or thrown away. The next generation are already getting close to playing with it.
There's lego from the 80's in there.

3:26 PM
Dad still had his lego train bits... but no trains :/

4:20 PM
@Gimby Oh I've got lego too
I've actually got the lego from my parents, for my kids to now play with :D
but nah, was some big green plastic boxes
the stackable kind, and they had toys in, but litterally no memory of ever playing with any toys...

4:47 PM
who needs legos when you've got minecraft

I think my daughter stopped playing with lego when she discovered minecraft.

i had legos growing up... but i stopped playing with them when i got an erector set

Let's play Guess the Site: Physics, or Worldbuilding? How London dispersion forces come into existence out of nowhere?

1 hour later…
5:55 PM
In a past life I lived extremely close to Legoland, used to drive there super often

@Tinkeringbell that's a spoiler

@JohnDvorak I'm sorry ;)

2 hours later…
7:45 PM
One kid asleep
other in bed reading her books at least for now...

So you still cannot go to bed yourself right then? You have to wait until all of your kids are sleeping?

That's a no brainer

You'll find yourself woke up by your own snore anyways :-D

Hedgehogs don't snore

8:20 PM
Just stating facts is worth of removal in this room? Weird.

Ehh. Keep the facts away from that topic and you might fare better...
It's a risk you take everytime you joke about such stuff online :)
Hedgehogs are cute, don't ruin their image :P

Well, let's say that hedgehogs make weird noises in all kinds of engaged situations.

Honestly don't push your luck like that.
Topic switch time. This birthday party is booooring
I had hoped I could talk/connect a bit with my aunt about both getting new apartments built.
Turns out... Not.
She's been outside chain smoking half the evening so far, and having too much bad breath to comfortably talk with for the other half!

@Tinkeringbell Oof. Bad smokers breath really puts a damper on conversation.

Best part of online interactions. :P

8:30 PM
@Catija Never having to brush your teeth? ;)
@Rubiksmoose Yep! But I have a long island iced tea now so I hope the rest of the evening will soon pass by in just a blur of noise ;)

@Tinkeringbell It doesn't take many of those to make many things a blur lol
I haven't actually made a Long Island in a while. Oh dang, game night tonight though, so I won't be making one tonight either. Sounds yummy though.

@Rubiksmoose I... Put all the leftover booze in a pitcher, added the appropriate amount of lemon juice... And now it's sitting in a 2l almost full soda bottle, so we can easily make them by just adding cola tonight.
I wanted long island iced teas, my brothers wanted them, and I have an aunt that drinks them too ;)
So far, it works quite well
@Rubiksmoose Game night sound fun!

@Catija Thanks!

That's a long island iced tea? Soda and lemon juice and booze? That sounds delicious.
I thought they were literally iced tea.

@meagar 15ml tequila, 15 ml white rum, 15ml gin, 15ml vodka, 15ml triple sec, 10ml lemon juice, 60ml of cola ;)
Quite a bit less innocent than iced tea :P

8:39 PM
@Tinkeringbell Nice! That's the way to do it!
Exactly 0% tea lol
@Tinkeringbell The recipe to a good night lol

Yeah I'm not worried about sleep tonight!

That is a crap ton of liqueur

@meagar Yeah a long island made properly is no joke.

Most bars will only serve you two or three....

9:01 PM
@Troyen Sure. :) We like making that stuff go away. :D

Rob

The things you miss when you spend too much time online:
Neil Ellwood Peart, (September 12, 1952 – January 7, 2020) was a Canadian musician and writer best known as the drummer and primary lyricist of the rock band Rush. Peart received numerous awards for his musical performances, including an induction into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1983, making him the youngest person ever so honoured. His drumming was renowned for its technical proficiency, and his live performances for their exacting nature and stamina. Peart grew up in Port Dalhousie, Ontario, (now part of St. Catharines). During adolescence, he floated between regional bands in pursuit...
