@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog That pattern looks like it's already caught by Potentially bad keyword in body and Potentially bad keyword in answer; append -force if you really want to do that.

@Feeds All of the above: The Internet

JAD
that's pretty cool

Rob
😉

@Rob is it live feed?
Can we see the bits moving?

Rob
7:25 AM
I think it's updated monthly last was Dec 11 (or so).
You wouldn't be able to see the bits moving, they send over 1 PB / second.

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog spammer still on Reddit. Guess they don't have effective moderation over there, lol.
@Rob so? Ocean also have billions of liters, and we see the water moving.

Rob
Not all of it.
Did you feel that breeze?

My son keeps asking me how much things weight, including ocean.... I make up some number and tell him, think I said the Pacific Ocean weights 200 billion tons. Wonder how far I was...
@Rob yes, door was just closed. Was that you?

Rob
I farted.

Oh, good for you. sending one back in gratitude

Rob
7:31 AM
@ShadowTheBurningWizard Pacific Ocean weight: ~6.8 x 10^20 kg.

omg
How to tell it to my son? 6 with 20 zeros after it?

Rob
Almost 7

he'll be 7 in 2 weeks
:D

Rob
@ShadowTheBurningWizard How to explain: The moons of Mars weight less!
1.28 × 10^16 kilograms
(1.08 * ((10^16) kg)) + (2.0 * ((10^15) kg))
10 thousand times less.
Mars weighs 1000x more, at 6.39 × 10^23 kg

7:49 AM
heh
And how much the sun weights?
I also told him the sun will be turned off in 3 billion years and the world will freeze.

Rob
@ShadowTheBurningWizard That is backwards!
The Sun expands as it gets older.

oops
Well telling him the sun will explode would be more scary than sun just turning slowly off... no?

Rob
It will evaporate the CO^2, in 1.2B years we will bake: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Future_of_Earth#Climate_impact

Anyway in 6-8 years he'll probably learn all of this by himself and will get mad at me for giving false info when he was little. :P

Rob
It won't explode while anything on Earth is alive. It expands and sucks us into spiral orbit.
True. My dad says ... Argh!

8:03 AM
Spiral orbit sounds like fun

yeah my 4 yr old keeps asking about the origins of the universe
explaining to her is kind of..... fun? XD

Rob
@ShadowTheBurningWizard The Sun weighs 330,000 times as much as the Earth. Here is a simulation of two Black Holes with a 6:1 ratio of difference in weight; which makes it easier to see the inspiral:

@djsmiley did you steal @Mag's cactus?! ;)

8:13 AM
So, I know I said this when I started my vacation too but... I'M FREEEE! :)
Good morning :)

JAD
free from what?

@ShadowTheBurningWizard what are you talking about? I'm clearly a parrot

I'm back at work \o/

@Magisch once a cactus, always a cactus! ;)
@Tinkeringbell hmm? hope not from work?

8:55 AM
@JAD home :P
@ShadowTheBurningWizard Nope, back at work :)
Just had one massive daily stand up: Almost 45 minutes :|

:|
at a old job we had standups, it was always a challenge to see if we could get it under 2 minutes.

JAD
@Tinkeringbell :( it's that bad?
guess you can't wait for your own place to be built? :P

@JAD Yep, that's the biggest problem I think.
That sounds lovely... I have 1 coworker that always talks too much, but for the rest we can usually keep it to 15 minutes... This was the first one where most of us were back from vacation so there was a lot of catching up to do...

Like finding out the stuff I put on ready to test before signing off is still not tested!

oh heh
just explaining else where

Hi all! Are we allowed to discuss on-going 'conversations' on SO.Meta?

9:03 AM
my manager is back in today, since before christmas
so me and him reviewing where things are at

… we have a real Mr Angry there!

And I'm like "I don't recall any of this stuff..... what happend in the last 3 weeks?" XD

@AdrianMole Depending on the subject it might be okay. Doesn't MSO have its own chatroom? Better luck there, perhaps, as you'll be more likely to find people that actually use it...
@AdrianMole And yeah, if it's about a specific user, that's one of the things that often don't end well... So I usually discourage that kind of conversation.
@djsmiley2kindarkness Well, it seems nothing much has changed here in two weeks, so my memory has it easy ;)

I was more interested in what the mods are doing - but I guess mods can't talk about moderation?

@AdrianMole SO mods, or mods in general?

9:07 AM
SO mods, in that case. I'm just amazed Mr Angry is not yet suspended.

@AdrianMole Hmmm.

@Tinkeringbell oh wow

You might want to try the MSO chatroom for that... seems to me like Cody edited that question you linked, so perhaps they're trying to lead by example and hope that calms the user down sufficiently?

... and there's a whole lot of stuff (4 other posts, now deleted) where the abuse was sooo much worserer.

Hmmm... Well, you can hope an SO mod drops by here and sees this, or try to reach one on SO chat to ask, if mods are in a good mood they might bother to explain ;)
If it was on a small site, I might suggest flagging and asking if they're aware of that pattern/behavior, but I've been told on SO such flags may be rejected as there's so much flags they rather not have silly ones?

9:12 AM
... I'll probably run into Cody at some point in one chat room or another. But probably best to let him get on with stuff, until it's a "done deal."
... or he's had a good night's sleep to recover?

Or both :)

9:49 AM
Heh. Quite surprised the Agreement still gets downvotes every day. It's off the homepage, so it means either people see it on other sites sidebar since it's still featured, or get link to it off-site.

People are booing because they want some ACTION!
Explosions, CGI characters

@ShadowTheBurningWizard It is shown at several sites' sidebars

@M.A.R. nah
@πάνταῥεῖ all the sites you're part of. On a site you didn't join yet, the "Join this Community" banner hides the community bulletin.
It makes sense to be honest, no point to show things if you didn't yet join.

10:10 AM
@ShadowTheBurningWizard He might like this excellent image of all the world's (surface) water, from usgs.gov/media/images/all-earths-water-a-single-sphere
I'm pretty sure that it only includes the water on & in the crust, not the water trapped in the mantle. But I might be wrong.

That's a really.... bad image :S
is that drop the size of the moon, for example?
Also, there's a xkcd What If that looks like this ;)

It's much smaller than the Moon.

@djsmiley2kindarkness The moon's diameter is 1/4th the diameter of Earth or something like that
Much bigger

this is just for a single storm

@PM2Ring Yeah, only "surface" water.

10:14 AM
if that drop hit earth, i suspect bye bye america.

It would be like "plop"

Earth radius = 6371 km. Moon radius = 1737 km

So more than that. Shrug

But how would such a blob exist outside the earth's atmosphere?

10:18 AM
@AdrianMole Superman

@AdrianMole Not very well. Some of the surface water would boil off the blob, until it lost enough heat to allow it to freeze.

... or it just might boil 'from the inside' and splatter.

I like my response better.
@AdrianMole Hence, plop

... but Superman is on vacation until Feb 29th.

You could still ask him for a small favor

10:21 AM
@PM2Ring Hey, if we do that I might finally be able to drown the Netherlands!

:D

@PM2Ring nice, thanks

@Tinkeringbell Hey if it was easy someone would've done it by now

@AdrianMole 2021?

10:24 AM
Kal El only has vacations once every 4 years.

@AdrianMole He was busy playing that guy in Les Miserables

@M.A.R. I know :P

But you can ask his half-brother, El Cid?

Isn't that guy old or something by now

FWIW, humans tend to be pretty good at comparing areas by eye, but we're generally not so good at comparing volumes by eye, without training and lots of practice. So the image I posted is a little misleading. But I still love it, and I think it helps most people who see it realise how precious our water resources are.

10:25 AM
@AdrianMole And Ben El? ;)

@PM2Ring It would be nice to have a sphere representing the volume of sea-water, too.
... that would be rather larger, I think.

@ShadowTheBurningWizard the heck is that

@AdrianMole I find it easier to compare cubes than spheres...
So I want cubes!

@PM2Ring Meh, not working
Wastes precious water

@Tinkeringbell Since when water comes in cubes other than ice? ;)

10:29 AM
@πάνταῥεῖ Science class? :P

@Tink Are you a cubist => "Balls to Picasso"

@AdrianMole Isn't it the entire water on the surface of the Earth?

@AdrianMole Not really, but I just find it easier to guess how many cubes fit in a bigger cube than spheres... as spheres always leaves a lot of empty room between them...

... legend in image says "Liquid fresh water"

@πάνταῥεῖ aquariums too!

10:31 AM
@Tinkeringbell There was this famous problem from that famous mathematician about marbles and oh nevermind
I have a math exam on Wednesday so I need to hate math right now for it to work

@M.A.R. Ben El, famous singer in Israel

@AdrianMole There are 3 water drops in that image. The big one is all the water, salt + fresh. The small one is all the liquid fresh water. The tiny drop is all the fresh water in lakes, rivers, and streams.

@M.A.R. all the water we drink is a waste. Or becomes waste soon enough. :D

@PM2Ring OK - got it, now! My apologies.

@ShadowTheBurningWizard Inorite
This guy gets the water cycle

10:34 AM
@AdrianMole To apologize properly, bring flowers.
:D

@AdrianMole No worries. The linked article goes into more detail.

I would still recommended saving water by not drinking it: Drink beer, instead.

Dry flowers. Water is precious.

@AdrianMole checks belly... nah, bad idea.
;)

@Shadow: Please accept the Fuzzy Flower in token of my humility. 😊

10:39 AM
Fuzzy flower is anything but humble

@AdrianMole first get @rene to sign a form where he agree to be used as a token! :D

... doesn't the BY-SA-CC (or whatever it's called) make him property of SE?

Only CC-By-Fl
SE isn't there yet

11:20 AM
Well, just sent off an email to the army... dealing with the army stresses me out

Yeah army is usually not fun

Sent in a request for this position.

@Mithical good luck! You know your קב"א?

11:36 AM
lol
The boy and girl in that site miss their eyes
Spooky
Bug?
looking for IDF meta

@Mithical There's no way of avoiding it, is there?
Must be terrifying to know you have to go into such an active army :(

@ShadowTheBurningWizard 54
@terdon Not really, no.
I don't have a combat profile, though, so that's some comfort.
(Asthma, glasses, and allergies do have some use, apparently! :P)

11:51 AM
That's something.

@Mithical wow nice

I'm supposed to go to the Greek army (although at 39 I am hoping I'll get away with dodging it), and that's terrifying enough. But having to be drafted into an army which is actively involved in war would be crippling.

@terdon there is, but it requires going to prison for a while, usually.

great

@ShadowTheBurningWizard Everyone was surprised at my kabba and dappar. Including me.

11:53 AM
You'll spend 1-2 months in prison, instead of 3 years service.

Although I'm not sure if that would be worse. Army is a form of prison, after all.

@terdon very true. Day prison, usually.

One where you need to respect the authority of whatever small minded young idiot they put as your sergeant.

@terdon nah... in most non-combat roles there's no such thing.
At least what I know of.

That's what really gets to me. I just know I'll get into a fight with some idiot who thinks he's hot shit because of a silly army rank and end up in jail if I ever go.

11:55 AM
e.g. in that role @Mith applied to, think the direct commander is officer.

@ShadowTheBurningWizard What do you mean? Aren't you part of the normal army hierarchy?

@terdon that's in the training period, yeah...

@ShadowTheBurningWizard Same difference. It'll still probably be some kid 20 years younger than me who thinks he's a hotshot. Granted, the age difference won't be such a big deal for Mith :)

@terdon no, of course there's chain of command, but in many roles, it's 1) not so strict and 2) officer is the direct commander, not a sergeant.
@terdon true
@terdon how come you got drafted at such age?? It's purely random?

OK. In the Greek army they choose random recruits and make them corporals or some such and they get to lord it over the others. And, anyway, given the average intelligence of the average professional Greek soldier, the commissioned officers won't be any better. Just more nationalistic, army-mad and racist.

11:57 AM
And for how long will you serve?
Anyway, that's REALLY weird... lol

@ShadowTheBurningWizard Oh no. You get drafted at 18. But I only became Greek in my 20ies, got it delayed for my PhD and then basically ignored it by not living in the country.

Theoretically, if the cops stop me in the street when I'm visiting Greece, I could be immediately drafted though.

So just leave Greece and you'll be fine. :P

Reminds me of the top three oxymorons in the English language:

11:58 AM
I have. In 1998 :)

Oh, that sounds exactly like what happens if you dodge the draft by leaving the country here.

... (1) Microsoft Works
... (2) Happily Married

@terdon so.. don't come back there? ;)

@Mithical draft the dodge?

... (3) Military Intelligence

11:58 AM
Is that a pun, an expression or a weird typo?

My cousin got caught by that. Spent some time in military prison.

@Mithical yup you can get arrested when you return

@terdon typo

@Mithical Yeah. In my case I think there's no prison. There may be a fine but I'll just be sent to the army instead of prison. Which, frankly, is quite possibly worse.
At least the prisons won't be filled with far right nationalist idiots.

@Mithical I'm not surprised. :-)
