Wow, I was looking through the monthly rep league pages. Looks like even though I've earned more reputation this month than last, I've slipped down 89 positions in the ranking.

@AGirlHasNoName It would be a start. And it would be accepted by some. That's better than none.

There comes a point where the obstinance becomes a bigger issue than the reason for the obstinance.

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog uhm. I really think its a good idea to drop the company name thing. Please
Maybe on another post. Heck, I'd think a modern clarification might be a good idea.
Not this one.

user194636
Someone should take the other Incs out so Sonic doesn’t explode

uhm no

user194636
She only removed one herself

I'm of the opinion that that's Monica's post
and her story
and no one else should be touching it at all.
Its an odd viewpoint
but edits should be substantial and improve the post
(also, I am so going to abuse my RO powers and trashcan this once I know its seen)

JJJ
@JourneymanGeek substantial ;)

user194636
1:22 AM
I agree and the company name is a silly thing to get hung up on but you know what he’s like. She removed one Inc

@JJJ go edit it... OH WAIT
lucky you caught it in time ;p

JJJ
@JourneymanGeek sorry, please continue your story ^^

@194636 I feel that needs work ;p

user194636
No kidding

user194636
Trash away

Also an essential social skill is knowing when to drop something
(and when to fight. And went to go "Oh snap. I made a mistake")
So... My office laptop crashed
I work nights so I called the tech line after my second shift (cause I couldn't log into the helpdesk system) to ask what to do.
And in all the excitement I forgot a vendor I needed to email was in the UK, and my co-workers laptop ... which I borrowed was... sticky
and unfamiliar (I didn't want to change stuff on it)
and emailed in the morning
Boss was pissed off.

JJJ
@JourneymanGeek there's so much grown-up stuff here but when you look at it from a distance it's just like a kids' playground. Years from now when the aliens arrive they will use this to study us

I apologised, pointed out I was unsure what to do and... then he remembered...
@JJJ the internet is still young ;p
and tbh, SE has an interesting social dynamic a lot of people, even staff don't entirely get

JJJ
@JourneymanGeek there will come a time when this is all fed to AIs and they will make bots based on that. Then they release the bots in the wild and you won't know if you're talking to a bot or to a human.
@JourneymanGeek Eventually the AIs will be left talking to each other without knowing they're both AIs

@JJJ oh so... there's a platform and a community
With something like facebook, or google, the focus is on the platform
on SE - there's a lot less of a platform, and we have a series of communities essential for the platform to be useful

JJJ
@JourneymanGeek FB is kind of the same, though the communities are very different.

1:32 AM
@JJJ FB has no... uhm
relationship is the best word with their communities

JJJ
@JourneymanGeek your friends form communities, there's a lot of literature on that

@JJJ and I can have the whole lot of them move ;p
SE communities survive but don't thrive when the core leaves

JJJ
@JourneymanGeek yea, FB focuses on the connections to form the communities. On SE the communities are predefined (the sites) and people join in to add content to attract users... pyramid scheme?

@JJJ Well of sorts
but a lot of folks seem confused over the community aspects of it
and how that relates to the bigger grander plan of growth
Or see outside the main/core site(s?)
I donno know TPTB feel about Super User for example

JJJ
@JourneymanGeek I guess they're looking for revenue. I imagine most users run adblockers and ad revenue isn't what it can be, so they look for $$ elsewhere

1:39 AM
@JJJ that's a perpetual thing
But there's no revenue if the site(s) they run are in ruins

JJJ
@JourneymanGeek but that won't happen overnight

@JJJ well - that hunt has been ongoing for years

JJJ
@JourneymanGeek yea, so now it's a question of whether something new comes along. If not, they can pretty much keep going like this without worrying too much. Sure, a good number of users may abandon ship but that needn't impact revenue too much

@JJJ and that's the calculus I'm sure lots of folks are making
Its not right IMO

JJJ
1:59 AM
@JourneymanGeek a lot of things aren't right here. If you've followed political events the last couple of years it seems people seem to think 'Oh, that is bad? We can do one better!'. Every time you think it's the most aggravating step but they manage to push the line

@JJJ People keep looking at the grass. They need to see the forest ;p

Meh. I like grass.

2:13 AM
Sure. ;p

2:28 AM
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog just out of curiosity... what's wrong there?
I see someone being... strange

@JourneymanGeek who misspells "diamond" like that? and a period directly after an email address, without a space?

@user1306322 me without spellcheck.

hmm I think phones suggest you the correct typing of email addresses these days, but I don't use phones...

I did say without spellcheck ;p

user168476
@Shog9 I like the Johnny Cash version of this song best.

2:43 AM
@Shog9 have you heard that recently environmental scientists have been recommending planting native wild flower seeds instead of grass?
apparently it's healthier for both the soil and the insect population
also might look pleasantly nicer than just grass

Hi @Ash
Johnny Cash anything is better ;p

@JourneymanGeek It looks Markov-chained to me, which is characteristic of spam

3:01 AM
I noticed recently a lot of people have been leaving comments that abrup

user168476
3:12 AM
@JourneymanGeek So true!

3:35 AM
@Yvette or @Nobody (it seems you've just changed it?) you there?
might be simpler in chat

user384163
@FélixGagnon-Grenier For the record. If you know that someone has changed their name, it is kind of rude to use the old one to refer to them.

It'd be really interesting if you gave a little attention to the ways in which she's rude too, but that's your prerogative. As for the name, that's debatable, but whatever. Apologies.
I was pinging both because I wasn't sure if caching would prevent my efforts of reaching out not in the comments. In hindsight, possibly I should not have mentioned the second part, but didn't think of it.

user384163
@FélixGagnon-Grenier She has plenty of people telling her she is rude. She doesn't need any more. And using a deadname is not debatable. The way I phrased it was overly kind because I honestly don't think you meant any harm by it. I still don't. I was trying to inform you.

I think technically she gave permission to talk about the name change in her about section

3:50 AM
uhm

Rob
@AGirlHasNoName It's not a 'deadname', though..

who/what are we talking about?

although that's probably just her being resigned to the fact that it will happen whether she likes it or not
@JourneymanGeek we are talking about nobody

ah
totally not a deadname

user384163
Okay, the word deadname has implications here that aren't relevant and I wasn't trying to put anyone on blast. Can we still not use the wrong name on purpose

user384163
3:52 AM
It is unnecessary and not the nicest thing in the world to do.

Rob
I'm pretty sure it was just an attempt to ping her
Not as something not nice

@AGirlHasNoName ah yup

user384163
Her about me is frustrated and sarcastic. Do you really want to use it as an invite to cause more hurt just because you can

ok folks, please

@AGirlHasNoName though, I have no idea how... erm...

user384163
3:53 AM
@Rob I agree. Like I said. Just trying to inform

SE's caching works or if it would update

I was trying to reach nobody, mentioned two names, and that's it. there were no intention of mis-naming, obviously.
I frequent rooms where the culture is different, and where we generally joke along with the people who change names.

user384163
@FélixGagnon-Grenier I didn't think there was and was not trying to accuse you of it.

I'm getting wierd shades of the odessey.
2

@AGirlHasNoName yes, I see that.

3:54 AM
@FélixGagnon-Grenier we had someone who kept changing their name often enough we got fed up and called them "TOWMN"
(The One With Many Names)

user384163
@FélixGagnon-Grenier It is excedingly obvious that she did not change her name just now as a joke for the room to have kicks about.

user310756
@david no I didn't. It was discussed at length last time I changed it and I was accused of hiding behind it. No one else has been and plenty of people have changed their names. My about me is sarcastic and caustic.

.... caching ><

user384163
She was clearly distancing herself from her name

3:55 AM
uhm, which isn't updated here yet.

user310756
@AGirlHasNoName thank you for being able to form things in a way that I cannot

user310756
@JourneymanGeek refresh your browser

user384163
@JourneymanGeek I blame caching

@JourneymanGeek I've been seeing the new name fine enough over here. . .

@AGirlHasNoName indeed. I'm simply explaining why I did not presume on the very moment to change everything.

3:56 AM
Caching! CACHIIINGGGGGG!

@JourneymanGeek Just refresh your browser.

user310756
@FélixGagnon-Grenier I wasn't offended by you saying Yvette fwiw

user384163
Okay I think we all agree here. No need to further belabor the point

@Nobody I'm glad. The goal was simply to reach you, so we can have a more intelligeble conversation than in comments.
though there is no obligation to do so, we can also speak of gardening, or not speak at all, or whatever

user310756
can I clarify what was being refered to about coordinating flags in chat under shog's post? was that in this chat room?

3:58 AM
No.
The folks who needed to read that read it though.

user310756
@Shog9 so what was that referencing?

> or not speak at all
^That'll be the day!
