@Snow no escape
only flags

We joke that my current workplace has a "Hotel California" employment policy. You can check-out, but you never leave.

user351483
Is there pink champagne on ice?

user384163
@Snow I just realized that that is a meth reference. Is that whole song about drug addiction? Sorry I'm having a moment of realization that I should have had twenty years ago.

Wait wuuuuut???

user351483
I really had no idea. To be honest, I never really thought about it.

user351483
1:10 PM
So what was that cake that got left out in the rain?

user384163
pink champaigne and ice are both independently slang for meth

@Cerbrus I'm assuming you can achieve the same result with much shorter strings

We have an answer for that!

A: What is the exact meaning of the song "Hotel California" & its album cover image?

AngstLike a lot of great songs, which stick in people's heads, it was written to suggest a lot of things, rather than have a specific meaning. The public statements by various band members about the song refer to the song being about the loss of innocence, and you can pretty much hang everything on t...

user384163
(okay I think pink champagne is a type of meth) I'm not really sure, my journeys in the drug culture were tangential to meth itself

user384163
fortunately

1:16 PM
In other news... poor, poor floppy disks.

@AGirlHasNoName There is actually such a thing as pink (rosé) champagne.

> You can't hack something that doesn't have an IP address.

I bet their maintenance department held the worlds only remaining stock of unused 8" floppy disks.

@194636 until next episode... until next episode .... goto Start

@Raedwald Maybe... Maybe there's some other system out there though, you never know with the military :P

1:19 PM
Or perhaps the dutch government has some systems still operating those. They still havily rely on XP so you never know...

Oh, I would say there's definitely a big chance of that, yeah!

Floppies were already a relic by the time XP came along, weren't they?

Ah, a wippersnapper. 8" floppy disks were old fashioned in 1985.

yeah mostly

@terdon I think our XP computer still had a floppy drive (not an 8" one though...).

1:20 PM
I remember installing Windows 95 off of a stack of floppies, but I think 98 already came as a CD.

user351483
Winchester drives. Those were the daddy.

We did burn most of our games onto CD-ROMs

@Tinkeringbell My computer still had a floppy until a couple of years ago :) It wasn't connected to anything on the inside, not for several years, but it was still there :)
@Raedwald hey, I remember those! Who're you calling a whippersnapper, gramps?
(or granny, as the case may be)

user351483
Novell NetWare 3.11 - about 32 floppy disks.

I think the genderneutral term is 'geriatric'

1:22 PM
@Tinkeringbell But that lacks the friendly and colloquial tone I was aiming for, unfortunately.

@terdon Hmm. True. But it is professional though!

So's octogenarian, but that's getting a mite specific! :P

In the UK, geriatric carries a more medical meaning.

Hmmm I have to use my monitor these days to plug in a regular USB, thats how far we've come

yeah

user351483
1:24 PM
@Raedwald "Elderly", maybe.

You might use it in non medical contexts, however.

@Luuklag You must be a Mac user, I guess.

@terdon unfortunately yes

@Raedwald Would you use it as a countable noun? As in "a geriatric"?

Yes
BTW, I'm only 52

1:25 PM
I think I'd only use it as an adjective, if I were to use it. Something like "geriatric patients".

user351483
An elderly person.

user351483
Or "old codger"

@Raedwald Nice! Same age as my mom! :D

@Raedwald Well, on the internet, that's ancient as I'm sure you know :P
@Tinkeringbell That's just depressing. You know that, right?

@terdon primarily, but we still used them for school docs and stuff because USB sticks were expensive at first and not available originally

1:26 PM
@terdon Kinda why I dropped it in here :P

I still learned 10 finger typing on a typewriter

@Mgetz I never used a computer for school stuff until university (98).

I got to stay up late to use the internet for the first time :D

user351483
@Luuklag I'm still two fingers and a thumb.

@terdon We can get more depressing.

1:27 PM
@user58 Don't you start!

I was thinking in a different direction, actually...

I never got to use the internet, because my dad's business wouldn't be reachable by phone when I would.

@terdon we had a lab full of Apple II machines in various varieties. That then got upgraded to Mac IIgs machines later

I owned a mechanical typewriter. Not an electric typewriter. A clanky machine. I still can't touch type.

Thats really old @Raedwald ;)

1:35 PM
@terdon depressing thoughts: you'll never know what killed you

Eh yeah. That's not a line of thought I'd like to entertain for long, if you don't mind :/
How about we switch to positive thoughts now?
Anyone have fun weekend plans?

@StephanS that's a good thing

I'm gonna play cards :)

@Tinkeringbell not work

Heh, same here :P

1:39 PM
And staying away from the dumpster fire that is work

I need to clean my room :/ That doesn't count as fun, does it?

No
Also no soda

@Autar What kind of cardgame? :)
@JourneymanGeek That's also.. are you just listing everything that's not a fun weekend thing?

@Tinkeringbell I play MTG. A lot.

@Autar Ah. I've heard about it, never played it myself... To be honest, if someone says cardgames I still think of solitaire or something like that...

1:41 PM
@Tinkeringbell I play these games at work during lunch break :) Never enough card games.
We have a big tarot playing group with custom rules at work.

I don't have time for games during lunch break :( But they're always fun and nice anyways :)

Btw I just see firefox throwing up a mixed content warning on the HTTPS protocol of chat, has that always been the case?

@Tinkeringbell oh. I have a bad relationship with soda

@Luuklag it's usually HTTP user-contributed images that do that

sounds fair @ArtOfCode

1:47 PM
@AdamLear so I sent the report to the contact us page like 30 hours ago. I got an email back saying to post it on Meta. However, the bug is so easy to use if you know about, it feels inappropriate to make it public while it’s still extant.
Dang is 59 a record number in here?

@JourneymanGeek is it fizzy between you two?

Delan 700 WG
Delan Pro
sorry about that, wrong tab to paste to

@StephanS oh. Too much gives me anxiety. I drink soda when stressed

Soda == Cola?

1:53 PM
stress -> soda -> anxiety -> stress
I see what you mean by a bad relationship
@JourneymanGeek what type of soda do you drink the most?

coke or irn bru if I can get it ._.
The good stuff is fine

coke -> caffeine -> anxiety
same here with coffee

@Luuklag I have been running on too little sleep
so... you just thread the needle ;p

@JourneymanGeek I feel ya. Got twins of 10M olds

2:01 PM
Im happy when I get 6 hours

twins! identical, or fraternal?

Could be both @StephanS, we didn't care enough to get a DNA test

plus you'll find out soon enough

true

well, 10 months late congratulations! Hopefully, it doesn't take too much of a toll on you.

user351483
2:10 PM
//!coffee

Thx @StephanS, my toes have never been longer, and well yeah im glad I usually get around 6 hours of sleep these days, it has been worse

!!/coffee

@Autar brews a cup of Mocha for @Autar

? "my toes have never been longer" I've never hear that before. What does it mean?

When your easily agitated, you've got long toes
a short fuse is the same thing

2:17 PM
that's really interesting, I've never heard that before
I guess you learn something new every day

Yeah these kind of phrases really lose their meaning when translated though.
I bet there is an English saying along the same lines

Did you also know that bananas are a source of antimatter.

radioactive

@Luuklag +1 ... ;)

@Raedwald I'm waking up
To the ash and dust

2:20 PM
A fellow dutchy that understands @rene ;)

Interesting. I can still see previous notifications from the TL in my inobx, but clicking them gets a 404.

Awww
It didn't onebox

@Luuklag A feat previously thought to be impossible

@Trasiva take the query string off the end

2:22 PM
@Trasiva put a "!" in front

@Trasiva add an ! in the beginning
Which might bork it
@user58 don't steal my lines

See, this is what happens when I'm delayed my direct caffeine IV

I had a somewhat stupid realization about D&I efforts earlier. Attracting new participants to an effort is only part of the work. You also need to have a plan to integrate the newcomers into the existing group, which requires understanding it.

Wow, Cesar finally got around to responding to that open letter we signed

@Trasiva *Cesar.

2:25 PM
I always get scared to click on links in this chat because there's a lot of expert programmers around and you never know what could be attached to the link

Glad to see things improved while I was out of the country. :/

@Tinkeringbell I mean, they both kinda got stabbed in the back.

ouch

@Trasiva Perhaps. Then it's even more important you get his name right, so I know which one you're talking about.

@Tinkeringbell Am I the only one who always writes Caesar first, to then delete the extra A?

2:26 PM
@Luuklag I think so? :P

The worst part is we have a Cesar that works for my company
So I know how to spell it

Perks of being alone on friday in the office, turning the music out loud!

@Trasiva Where?

@Luuklag until you realize you are not the only one there

As an answer on MSE

2:29 PM
Stats for anyone interested: final signature count at response stands at 620 signatures (155 mods, 13 ex-mods, 452 users); Lavender at 150 signatories (47 mods, 4 ex-mods, 99 users).

@ArtOfCode Interesting statistics. Is this normally distributed or skewed I wonder
Of is our population skewed

Finally demodded. It took what, 10 days?

@Sklivvz, this one took (less then) a day: meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/390525/…

Congrats, I suppose?

and ~300k hits/75k uniques on the site

2:40 PM
ugg, why did my brain have to decide today was a good day for a strike

good day

@StephanS Oh, yeah
its not the same

user102937
Are they still processing George's demodding?

probably

@Luuklag I think a lot of the gap is due to the lesser visibility of the LGBTQ letter, given it didn't have its own thread and the other letter came first

2:46 PM
pretty much >_>
I might have missed that one :(

@Emilie Oh I thought that was a letter where only Lavender people signed, and I found that ratio pretty high.

@Luuklag No it's also allies

that explains

meta.stackexchange.com/questions/334575/… I was thinking about making a post about this but at the same time there's way too many posts as there is

Have a nice weekend everyone
o/

2:53 PM
@StephanS I think TPTB have an idea that's important to people. Or they will never get the idea, ever, if it tapdanced the dance of a thousand taps wearing tapped clogs while playing drums on their head with uncooked drumsticks.

@Luuklag You too! \o

@JourneymanGeek I think I understood the message but I don't understand how I understood it

@StephanS excellent

@StephanS words are words, actions are actions. Thus far we only have the former, not the latter. I'm not going to attack Cesar over that though, he's just the poor CM told to go tell the lions the roars were heard.

@Mgetz Rip Cesar's rep

2:58 PM
@StephanS I've commented extensively on my opinions on rep and meta in the prior days, I don't feel the need to rehash them.
