Flying butter effect... for this morning...

4 hours later…
@Shree why did you bother censoring your IP at the beginning when you left it in plaintext below? also, why censor IPs at all - your IP is exposed to the internet anyway, so if you have any security issues you are screwed regardless of whether you post it in a screenshot or not ;)

:D

7:33 AM
Lol
When burying the evidence make sure bits are not sticking out?

8:23 AM
@410 How you know that's him? Might be other person with similar name.
Anyway, wasn't newsletter renamed to "digest"? I got email now with newsletter written all over it, as usual. Bug?
@ThiefMaster it's exposed to staff and mods only, not to anyone.
Well, now it is.

well now it is ;p

But I honestly don't see the point of being too precious about your IP address
I won't share it, but I literally have a domain pointed at my home IP cause I'm lazy

Anyone with access to a web server can also plant some basic code that logs the IP while serving image then onebox the image to get IP addresses of everyone, but that won't give exact mapping who owns what IP.

yup
but what can you do with the IP?

8:27 AM
yip
@JourneymanGeek try to hack it?

hah
and then?

surely there are/were/will be vulnerabilities letting hackers (or just bored script kiddies) take control of machines with compromised IP addresses.

So logging those is useful for hackers.

no? And if you could you might as well use shodan or brute force stuff

8:30 AM
@Shree disable all your scripts, likely one of then went rogue and started sending requests to the server in insane amount.

uhm
@ShadowTheCoffeeWizard I think team smokey might have been aware
and er
the post isn't there anymore

?
What's team Smokey?
When it's already reported, Smokey says it
in Chimney, Sep 13 at 6:30, by SmokeDetector
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Post 1: Already recently reported [ MS ]

@ShadowTheCoffeeWizard oh, I kinda recognise a few flaggers on sight ;p

lol
meh not a spammer, can safely remove from blacklist
I think

8:50 AM
@ShadowTheCoffeeWizard that answer...
I want to fix the layout
but I have no idea howwwww

?
oh on SU
Yeah seems intended to use inline images.
It fits with icons, not such images though.
meh
Suggested an edit there now. @Journeyman

Ahh. Better

:)
Though 333 was special number :(

@ShadowTheCoffeeWizard click network profile, compare the photo to LinkedIn.
Deep forensic analysis of the image is optional.

11:57 AM
@410 heh
That means one thing: he removed the full name and picture on purpose, and forgot to synchronize the network profile.
I bet those accounts will be nuked soon and he'll get a new, blank, account.

nuked Stack Overflow and started a new one

12:20 PM
That might happen when Shog rage quits.... :D
@JNat long time no cross network spammer for you... Enjoy! :D
While you're on it, another one for you... @JNat :)

@ShadowTheCoffeeWizard Didn't Joe get poached by microsoft?

@Magisch yup
and he didn't seem very disgruntled
just had a better offer

seems a bit unfair to expect PM at stack to compete with "teamlead at new team in area that really interests you with better pay" at microsoft

@Magisch yup
especially if you were pretty happy there

seems like microsoft realized they really wanted to keep him and came up with an idea that was too good to pass up

Or there was an opening, and someone went "Hey, wasn't there that guy...."

1 hour later…
3:26 PM
@Magisch he left Microsoft in favor of SE, then got back to Microsoft, yes. Those are the facts. As for the "why" we can only guess, my guess is that it's not only due to money.

And it's probably best to avoid the speculation.

but it's fun

Manager get tons of criticism, sometimes not very nice, manager leaves. Sorry but hard for me to accept it's just coincidence.

1 min ago, by Mithrandir
And it's probably best to avoid the speculation.

> Coincidence? I think not!

3:29 PM
@Mithrandir so we shouldn't talk about anything related to it?

just not here ;)

@ShadowTheCoffeeWizard I don't think speculation about someone changing jobs is an especially appropriate topic for this room, so... correct.

410
Maybe we can switch from speculation to contemplation.
> If you want a place to be more welcoming to the folks you respect, then start by doing respectable things in it. Strive to make it a place that you're proud of, and only then hope that others will be proud of it too. twitter.com/shog9/status/1176650938003574785
Having contemplated this for a while, I still don't think I am getting it.

@410 Sounds like Shog expects people to be respectful towards one another on SE.

410
Specifically, I don't know where respect enters the welcoming equation.

3:35 PM
(or actually, MSO, where they're not)
@410 it's not about the Welcome Wagon
It's more basic than that.

410
Generally, one expects welcoming to be directed toward the downtrodden masses, worthy of pity more than respect.
Or at least that's my reading of welcoming.

I asked Should I be worried about how fast I use the site? -- I'm pleased to announce I got my first stack captcha, yay :D

There might be some context that... most people won't get. :|

@410 Not the point either, from what I can tell. Shog direct this to the long time users who now bash the mods and each other on MSO.

3:38 PM
@ymb1 and? You passed? :P

@ShadowTheCoffeeWizard Of course not, they're a robot.

@ShadowTheCoffeeWizard ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ apparently :D

PS wasn't testing or pushing any limits, but I changed how I typically browse, mainly based on this: meta.stackexchange.com/a/330351/392799 now my bookmark is a search string for is:a created:2d.. and sorted by new
I was sensible to make it "2d.."
well, there's another similar bookmark for is:q ... so maybe opening both at the same time triggered it
that other bookmark filters out the Q's that's been answered
I think it warrants a support/feedback post, so I've just posted that

@ShadowTheCoffeeWizard Okay.... Well, here is another one to decipher.
> The problem with explaining all of this malicious stuff as "stupidity" is that after a while you just start thinking of everyone as stupid.

...and that's when they strike. https://twitter.com/shog9/status/1176902280701857798
Unrelated: I am baffled by all the Thomas Cook stuff.
I tend to pay for the flights I take and for the hotel rooms that I stay in.
Giving someone a bunch of money in return for a promise that they'll handle everything... doesn't sound remotely appealing.
Millennials killed Thomas Cook. (?)

@410 It's actually quite common over here... you can book entirely arranged stuff, where you pay 1 lump sum of money for the transportation, hotel stay, meals (and sometimes entry to the theme park :P )
@410 I actually think a lot of millennials still use travel agents, though online.

410
It just sounds so... geriatric to me. Like checking into assisted-living housing or something.
"We'll take care of everything" are scary words to hear.

@410 It's just pre-holiday laziness...

"We'll take care of everything from this point." are indeed scarier...

Thank you to everyone who came to events on my book tour! If you weren't able to make it to any of my tour events, How To is now available everywhere, including at Barnes and Noble, Target, Amazon, local independents, and more. Some Barnes and Noble locations and indies have special signed copies, so you can check with your bookseller to see if those are available.

@Feeds Sure: take a limit as one of two unknowns ->0 or ->infinity. Voila, one unknown left. Write some justification of why this is physically natural in your situation.
@Feeds Well, at least Randall is not inserting animated ads in this feed, like those ads on Physics.SE

@410 To be fair, only one of them is actually animated, and only one or two display nudity (depending on if you count the foot)

7:14 PM
Hola... is there a specific reason why there is not general business site? or did no one ever try to build one... I mean there is a whole section labelled business after all

@life-on-mars There is no particular reason why a site does or does not exist
Sites are proposed through Area51.SE
And if they gain enough followers, they'll get a chance at Private Beta

What do you mean a "general business site"? I'm not clear on what you're asking.
Do you mean a question and answer site, or a site for Stack Overflow's business?

410
@M.A.R. Not the correct order anymore. Followers first, Area 51 proposal second.
Startups was the closest SE site to this topic. Fittingly, it failed twice.

That sounds fittingly confusing
You will not confuse me. I already have something to confuse myself with.
Conufsito ergo sum.

410
When submitting Area 51 proposal, one has to provide a link to some online community that's supporting it.

7:19 PM
@Mithrandir a Q&A site

410
So, step 1 is to gather support; step 2 is to propose the site.

So... a Q&A site for general questions on running a business?

Well, we have money.SE, where all the loan spam goes

In that case, yep, @M.A.R. hit the nail on the head.

7:20 PM
Apparently it was my finger

410
@Mithrandir That's for personal finance.
Absolutely not corporate.

@M.A.R. hehe ... loan spam... we all need that

410
Out of the surviving sites, Project Management is somewhat relevant.

...I was speaking in reference to the Area 51 answer, not the Money.SE. Chatception.
(Does A51 OB?)

project management is already pretty specific...

410
7:24 PM
Well, do you want to include accounting, corporate law, hiring, fundraising, ....

I just found that someone proposed something like it 8 years ago on area51 -_-

410
then it gets very broad, and not really a SE site anymore.
But the root issue is that the people who are good at running businesses are busy running businesses, as opposed to hanging out on forums.

hmmm... I see your point... but isn't that the case for much of SE? I mean take law for instance

Someone's got a lot of time on their hands, and their idea of trolling is asking for subscribing to PewDiePie . . .
It's kinda a new low not to even be agitating when you're trolling
