Posts attempting to load a script (exploit) as non-sandbox answers are abusive/abuse of system?

@MEEthesetupwizard Have you tried politely informing the user that we have a sandbox? :)
Technically it might be, but if it's just someone that doesn't know there's a better place to test stuff out... and it's a first time... I'd give em the benefit of the doubt, put it on NAA or a moderator flag.
Those don't come with rep penalties and stuff.

Ooops, totally forgot that. :)

If a mod closes a question on HNQ, that question is kicked off. What if they very shortly after reopen it? Does it get back on HNQ or is it off of it for good?

@forest it will be able to return

Will it automatically return or does it lose its hotness points?

8:24 AM
@Tink okay, please don't handle the flag, while I will try to retract it (not being able to see deleted posts; need a userscript)

@forest I don't think it loses any hotness points for being closed, but it might lose some for being older/less activity/votes in that time.

ah

@MEEthesetupwizard Let me know when you succeed/give up :P
Do you know what the script was trying to do, actually?

@MEEthesetupwizard I don't think so, you have any reference or example?

@ShadowWizard there was a post, recently (here on Meta, IIRC migrated to MSO).
@Tinkeringbell didn't want to open an unknown URL address.

8:31 AM
@MEEthesetupwizard Hmm. I'm seeing the deleted post, but it looks completely empty :/

That's the html sanitizer, it strips off the html. You'll see it when editing the answer.

@MEE leave your flag, I'll validate it :)

nah okay. The retract script isn't working anyway...

@Anne approved
I mean I approved your warning and rejected the edit of course :P

Woah. Seems today is some kind of 'sneaky user' day.

@JourneymanGeek Sneaking in scripts, trying to sneak in spam through edits.
See the mod messages ;)

@MEEthesetupwizard I suspect no relation to Tim Post
@Tinkeringbell ah. Nuke em all?

8:58 AM
@JourneymanGeek Gave the first one the benefit of the doubt. ;)

@JourneymanGeek If my name was that punnable I'd go all out with it
Get a cat named "GET". Name various things in your life after http verbs

Those sneakers?

Just like one of my coworkers whose surname is the same as a metal
all her pets have metal themed names, the small dog is copper, one of the cats is magnesium, etc.

In the context of this be nice with system messages discussion would it be easy to have a list of all system generated messages? Are those kept in a table perhaps? A resource file? Or are they scattered around the code base?

That one still going on? Oh, SarahChipps . . . chipping in
@SaraChipps yes, I'm a bit blunt but let's try to see if we can find common ground between the extensive research already done and the opinion of a seasoned user. I do think tone is important for the type of users you want to bind to your platform, new and existing. And I'm not suggesting this will be easy but I simply do not believe that a welcoming voice at every point is the way forward to retain those new users once they settled in. And when we no longer grow we risk of losing what we've build together so far. I'm not there yet that I want that to happen. .. (cont.) — rene 23 hours ago
"a bit blunt"

@Margarine Full out Dutch comes first :P
But that wasn't the question ;)

you need to be sharper. Like a knife.
(That's Bryan Adams, so fully welcome-wagon compatible. Accept no B-free substitutes)

@Shog9 But then I might hurt someone, or myself for that matter ...
Not my intent

That doesn't sound inclusive

5:57 PM
@rene When it comes to politeness, you're always hurting someone ;)

Yep, that seems true

He's "a bit blunt". A BIT BLUNT

@Margarine You've never seen some Dutch person tell another person the full truth, have you? :P

A blunt bit is a bad bit
Always sharpen your bits before drilling

That way, your cuts go deeper and you don't feel them right away.

5:59 PM
decides to not ask frank what he does with his drills

@Shog9 Butter knifes are generally blunt. That's a good kind of blunt, ever tried spreading butter on a sandwich with a sharp knife? No good.

I have. It works fine. Just gotta get the angle right.

@Shog9 Meaning you use the blunt end of the sharp knife :P I've done it that way a few times XD

We're talking about normal people doing it, not with mod tools
But I sometimes leave the bread out for so long the sharp end works better
Has a woodworking feeling to it

@Margarine Poor bread.

6:16 PM
Could just go for expert mode and use a sword.

@fbueckert It is not wise to chain a dragon to roast your bread ;)

user302202
@rene They should be in Transifex. Just learn Portuguese, Russian, or Japanese, and volunteer to help with localization.

Well, Russian might be handy ...

Forgot Spanish is an option, possibly the simplest one.

Also +1 to Shog for old pop music. Some of B Adams output might not be entirely compliant though, like "The only thing that looks good on me is you"

Q: Changing the site name

Henri MenkeToday I was browsing https://mathematica.stackexchange.com/ and saw in the “Hot Meta Posts” sidebar that they are changing their site name from “Mathematica” to “Mathematica & Wolfram Language”. Note the usage of the ampersand symbol to chain the two topics. In the comments to the accepted answ...

user302202
And yes, I was browsing tex.stackexchange.com and saw this in the Hot Meta Posts...

@Tinkeringbell Well, you can always use it for heating your house, your bath, transportation, etc., etc. A dragon has many uses.

== Russian == === Alternative forms === ни пу́ха! (ni púxa!) === Pronunciation === IPA(key): [nʲɪ‿ˈpuxə nʲɪ‿pʲɪˈra] === Phrase === ни пу́ха ни пера́! • (ni púxa ni perá!) good luck, break a leg ==== Usage notes ==== The traditional response to this is к чёрту! (k čórtu!, “To hell!”). The meaning of the phrase is approximately "(I hope) you will not get a single feather," as would be spoken to a bird hunter, with usage and meaning akin to the English phrase "break a leg."...
I will ни пуха ни пера you.
@VoteDukakis I feel like meta.SE doesn't describe the site's purpose adequately . . .

user302202
Rename it to User Voice Stack Exchange?

user302202
@Margarine That's not how Russian works.

But it's how intimidating works

user302202
For intimidation, just write ЫЫЫЫЫЫ!!!

That looks like Pikachu exclaiming in happiness

Hi @rene, I don't love your tone but I'm going to go ahead and answer anyway in the spirit of teaching. We have done extensive research here at Stack Overflow that has shown tone of the site and interactions with other users is one of the main reasons new users don't participate. At every point we should approach our users with a welcoming voice, that means everything from our "Ask a Question" page to, yes, system messages. — Sara Chipps ♦ yesterday

user302202
Wow. Much spirit. Such teaching.

Well, it doesn't seem to suggest much either way.

user302202
I, for one, am annoyed by business emails that begin with "I hope this message finds you well" (followed by a bunch of unpleasant stuff). You know and I know you don't give a [...] so why add a lie on top of that?

There is also this vague line of thought I have that system messages could use a lot of improvement. However, I didn't take notes when it made sense and I knew what to change, and now I have no idea what a revised message would look like
Certainly not sugarcoating. If I saw too many pleasantries on a SYSTEM message, I would assume the next paragraph is about benefits of Viagra.
@VoteDukakis I hope this message finds you well

user302202
It finds me drinking coffee and preparing for another conversation with a student whose life has been destroyed by a final exam.

user302202
6:53 PM
Mmm, coffee.

@VoteDukakis Bet you're gonna start the conversation with "I hope this message finds you well"

user302202
The in-person equivalent, equally annoying, is "How are you?"

Even better, start with a sigh and a "so . . . "

@Tinkeringbell hell no. I scrape the bread with the sharp edge.

7:38 PM
@VoteDukakis it is a delicate subject and I'm not the best equipped to handle it gently.

user302202
I have not seen you write anything nearly as obnoxious as the first sentence of that comment.
