I think that's like stating 1 person who writes the complete 100 lines on the logic... doesn't do as much of the work compared to others who write 9900 lines refactoring the code... while the 9900 lines of code won't eventually work without the original 100 lines...

I don't Twitter, I guess not

@AaronHall There's two things funny 'bout that. The cup is held to be the face of the person in the background. Also this comment: "Because no one like cold fries n nuggets with warm soda", that's the U$20 Grub Tub. Idea stolen from here:

Why's the character limit for 'off-topic, something else' a 100 characters shorter than that of a comment?

8:45 AM
@Tinkeringbell I suspect one of the fields in the database that keeps that custom reason only allows for so many

@rene it's kind of annoying :P

PostHistory.comment is nvarchar(400) for example although I don't see the custom close reason in the public SEDE.

Time to hunt down who made the database and thought it was a good idea to take a different limit ;)

@Tinkeringbell I answered the thing before: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/258856/…

Woah, nice :)

Autoflagging is broken, again (SE API rate limits). Nick Craver has been pinged. Autoflagging won't work for an unknown period of time. More information: current problem; more info from previous problem: short version; long version.
oh, fun..

im at work doing network maintenance

@Magisch more fun...

Do moderators have any meta-data on comment votes beyond score? Dates? Number of retracted votes?

not that I know of
must admit I never searched for those either ;)

At best SE staff has a bit more, if at all, given how important comments are

10:14 AM
@Tinkeringbell and done at work
It's not bad when it happens, I get a full day off for 3 hours of work usually

@Magisch That actually sounds like a good deal :)

@Tinkeringbell weekend work is 2x time and 4 hr minimum
In the owner's own words it forces them to consider and only order it when necessary

I think its actually quite a good idea to have a conditional "skip to content button" like google. Pretty nifty design.

@GetAnswerWizard Saw a funny one earlier... apparently escort services can now double as tech support. XD

@JNat Network-wide username reset please: stackexchange.com/users/123542͏͏͏
They're exploiting some flaw to make their name appear blank

@SonictheWizardWerehog They should probably find out what exactly first, and perhaps fix meta.stackexchange.com/q/326747/369802. Resetting it won't do much good now...
You'd basically destroy the evidence

seems already reset...

I pinged JG in a separate room asking them to reset their SU username

@GetAnswerWizard Fun, now we'll never find out what happened XD

12:07 PM
@Tinkeringbell Their stackexchange.com profile is still cached as blank

Ah, well, hopefully someone looks to see how they did that then, before resetting that too ;)

But FWIW their username consisted of the following escape sequences: %CD%8F%CD%8F%CD%8F
I managed to capture an old link prior to the reset

Perhaps at least drop that in comment on the question then, as Glorfindel said they didn't have time to find out

Well, the history of previous usernames are recorded... and they can directly hack the database if needed

@GetAnswerWizard I don't think history shows the special characters needed to build a weird name... just the weird name itself.

12:18 PM
The characters themselves should be stored, as was the case here

Q: Comments: You've heard of +1, you've heard of -1. Now get ready for ±0!

user45266In comments, some people voluntarily write "+1" or "-1" to indicate what they did vote-wise on the post. But when people want to say that they weren't the person who downvoted, there's no way to really say that concisely. So I propose "±0", which would function the exact same way but mean that th...

I don't get these
How can you propose a change to how people talk?

@M.A.R.TheChemicalWizard Just like that :P

Suppose everyone agreed that +0/-0 is magnificent. How many would use it?

Do people have to use it? :P

If they don't the discussion would be pointless

12:31 PM
± x-√x too simple for comment

It's hypothetical too, nobody actually liked saying it

Q: What do they "say..."?

gnatI recently noticed rather unusual pattern in some question titles: these start with word "say", followed by what I would call a real title, in quotation marks. After noticing pair of such questions I run this simple search and it looks rather popular (I listed some recent examples below). These ...

@Aibobot There are comments, and someone's downvoted, so might as well retain those and prevent your main account from losing rep

@SonictheWizardWerehog probably you ;p
also, rep's not important when you hit 50K

7:10 PM
...and being a mod, plus a -2 loss on a 150-rep account is a lot heavier

shrug
I don't care about rep

COC is entirely about how we treat each other
Mechanics, while they take humans into account, are also about efficently handling things.

A: Is TeX.SX a competition arena?

user49915Should be a comment, but too long for a comment: If you compare with a few years ago, then it got partially better in my opinion, since recently the mods (whether our mods or site-wide mods) finally took some action to ban a high-score user (who was unruly years ago, imho). It also got partially...

And yes, I did talk about tweeting their previous post. I previously decided against it, but after seeing Yvette's tweet with a similar post, I changed my mind.

@SonictheWizardWerehog hm.
I didn't think that was very helpful personally
We'd already handled it - and it made it look like we didn't

Did you see the ensuing threads?

and well, do you want to actually hand more ammunition to critics?
Honestly? I was too annoyed to want to.

@Aibobot I did point out that it was deleted. (I didn't want to have to black out more names.)

7:30 PM
And I noticed that Tim was aware, and left it to him
@SonictheWizardWerehog But most folks would see "Toxic Post"
not "It was deleted" (twice!)

@GetAnswerWizard those meta monsters

Cause I personally felt the way the post was worded was aimed at causing arguement.
And there were multiple other issues

But I doubt folks are going to care about the nuances

@M.A.R.TheChemicalWizard well, yelling at people wouldn't have done much good

I could even convert them to reputation points maybe

@M.A.R.TheChemicalWizard it wouldn't have done much good

and well, sometimes you gotta trust folks to handle things. I literally only saw it cause someone had already replied

In a few years
I trust you, Aibogeek

And stepping on their toes would have not helped ;)
And as a mod, I got a way to get eyes on stuff like that ;)

Q: Did the new image of black hole confirm the general theory of relativity?

LiquidHow can we do it just by looking at the image. But I heard in news saying "Einstein was right! black hole image confirms GTR. Q: Is it feasible to deplatform a user off of SE using a small group of people, and if so how to prevent it

VijayGuptaBackstory: I'll start this off by saying my reputation is at 1 for a reason. Not disputing that. My main concern is the manner in which this happened. Whew - Ry- just went to town on stackoverflow.com/q/1789945/1709587. I mean, Bhargav started it at my bidding, but he's taken it further than I ever thought the mods would be willing to. There were three pages of answers this morning, and now there are three answers.
I wonder if there's gonna be a Meta post soon challenging it as an improper use of mod powers. :)

Is your main concern wiping away people's work, or lost rep?

My concern? I think it was the right thing to do.
But I think it's sufficiently drastic that others may disagree
