1:44 AM
whoot whoot is always good for some +unsung.

\o/

Not that I need any.
I just have a fever of 103.
Doot doot doot doo doo doo do do do doo doot.

Oh, damn. That's rather unpleasant.

The "had Tylenol 1.5 hours ago" phase I'm in isn't too bad.
My house normally feels cold to me, mind you.

2:13 AM
Wife won't rewind Criminal Minds so I can verify whether I did in fact see a tire with directional treads installed backwards.
The injustice.

2:45 AM
Rewind? What's "rewind" mean? Tell me you're not using a VHS...

2:59 AM
@BenBrocka It's retro speak for scan backward on the PVR.

3:28 AM
Hmmm, when was the 'viewed' sort order removed?

3:44 AM
Hi guys :)
I am asking too many questions; so instead of asking again I figured I'd just say something here. What's with "review" and why am I now seeing it in the toplinks? (even though I have no moderation privileges whatsoever)

@cbroughton Review is for reviewing new user's posts
It's available to all users I think
And it's not part of the 10k tools

@YiJiangs Alright, I just didn't see it there before; and it seems to relate to the things outlined in the top privilege bracket (can't remember what it was called though.) Where it says they gain access to some displays that do just that.

The 10k tools is actually just a list of questions which may require attention, as well as access to some additional statistics
Oh, and the list of closing and flagged questions

Hmm, time to see if I can hit the "Monthly questions quota" in one day... I'm apparently well on my way. // Not seriously though. Unless I bother making another few questions for the more tags I see that need synonyms.

I now have Win3.11 on a USB disk, weighing in at a hefty five thousand kilobytes.

3:51 AM
@Moshe This should be the room's comment >>> /star'd

Heh. :-)

@Moshe Specifically~~ yeah, what you just edited it to.
Hmm, is this chat safe for off-topic banter? If so: i.imgur.com/RJmYU.png
Also; offhand does anyone know where that not-so-pretty graph on SO is that showed the correlation of SO Rep to Meta SO Rep on a daily basis? I've found it a few times, but no idea where it is now.
(Won't let me edit the above message.) I'll probably bookmark it for future laughs whenever found.

4:21 AM
Life's too short for sleep, time to get it over with.

4:39 AM
Found the graph: stackexchange.com/users/388647?tab=reputation Only shows StackOverflow / Meta StackOverflow though.

6:04 AM
@cbroughton Yeah, the global reputation graph and falir only include sites on which you have at least 200 reputation.

7:22 AM
out of curiousity, does anyone know if mods can see who and what a user has downvoted?

Anonymous
@chown In general, no, but they can see statistics related to suspicious voting patterns (i.e. one user voting up all of another user's posts). I'm not sure of the details.

Anonymous

7:59 AM
@chown Developers would be lieing if they said they didn't have access to that information. However, I'm not sure even diamond moderators do.

A: Can admins see who downvoted them? If not, do developers with DB access look it up?

Jeff AtwoodThere is a show votes option for developers, but we explicitly disallow it on our own posts -- to reduce any temptation of looking at votes on our own posts. The intent of the function is to look at voting irregularities at the developer level. And of course developers have access to the underl...

Pikachu.

Thanks for the infoz, @JeremyBanks @cbroughton @balpha!

7:01 PM
@GeorgeMarian Hahahah

7:11 PM
@GeorgeMarian Ha, that would violate Apple guidelines were it in the app itself, btw. Which is what makes it funnier.

Ohai

10:14 PM
Me.tired = true;

@Moshe Access of undefined property tired

Gotta love git.

git suxors

@georgeMarian why?

mercurial is the only choice that can be considered

10:29 PM
@jcolebrand pfft

Ah, but git isn't about choices. Git is just git. :-p

Git is less useful than mercurial

@Moshe I just made some content updates an one branch and pulled those changes into the branch where I'm changing the site structure.

Anyone that chooses git therefore chooses more pain and less ability to "Get things done"

WTF are you talking about?

10:30 PM
too many options in git
I like convention over configuration

What are you a "user?"

I prefer letting the software manage the things the software needs to manage

Hah, Steven Cole Brand Jobs. "less is more."

when I want to push software to the central repo, I just want to "hg push"

Presented with options you get all deer in the headlights? ;)

10:31 PM
not "git push origin master set fu op bar nop blah blah blah"
@Moshe less is more.

I know. Kidding. :-D

Actually, less is better than more, though it ironically has more functionality.

Moshe, you should seriously reduce the margin on the city list so that all the cities show up at one time

the only time I use more is when I'm trying to read logs quickly :p

10:34 PM
heh I try to avoid more, because when I do use it I usually end up wanting to scroll back. lol

anyone care to proofread and comment inline? j.mp/voZuPe

Ok, will take a look at that soon.

looking for suggestions of what to cut, what to expound upon, etc
@GeorgeMarian term windows are the only way to live
And if you have to remote into a box, screen is the first utility to run

Yeah, I love using screen. Though Ubuntu's byobu has spoiled me. I need to find a way to extract that status line definition out for use at work.

I am not familiar with byobu

10:38 PM
@jcolebrand Lucky for you, that's short enough that I'll take a stab at it.

hehe, thanks
I'm trying to keep it short

@jcolebrand It's a front-end for screen. I'm not sure what else it provides besides the slick status line. Probably some keybinds and other niceties.

I'm on mobile ATM, I won't be much of a help.

10:51 PM
@jcolebrand git push -- old reply is old

@cbroughton didn't work the last six or so times I tried it

@jcolebrand It depends on how you connected to the git repository to be honest, as does with mercurial. If you just cloned it, then there are a few more steps you'll have to take first (such as pulling the most recent set, mergeing your changes, and pushing it). If you init'd your repo before pushing, then you'll have to do something like git push origin master

well of course pull/merge/push

@jcolebrand With git it's always best to reference your local branch in commands, such as git push origin master would push from your local master to the "origin" master. But it's all up to how you have your repo set up. What happens when you try to do it, "not working"

Dang it, I got caught up in the editing and ignored the cigar.

10:55 PM
@GeorgeMarian for shame!

'tis ok. If it's not sitting for too long it doesn't get nasty.

""not the room you are looking for?

There are other rooms, with 2 users currently talking in 2 rooms.""
Wow, so this really IS the only meta chatroom :).

For the most part
There's also a few "company only" chat rooms on this server

I think stackoverflow.com/questions/8115257/… needs to be moved to Programmers so the bloke gets some answers :), but of course it needs some more votes.

11:04 PM
@jcolebrand How is this document going to be used? Hand-out/flyer? About page on a website?

I'm not entirely sure. Definition of intent?

Ok, now I'm trying to look at it from the perspective of what it may be missing.
@jcolebrand Do you have any ideas about class sizes?

Yes, 20 or so at max

Ok, then include that as well.

Where?
at the top?

11:08 PM
Yes, if it's fundamental to the idea.

not entirely fundamental but we do have a calendar on google calendars

I was originally thinking of it in the context of the comparison to university classes. However, it's a good idea to highlight it if it's a core part of the offering.

What's with people using email for file transfer?

@cbroughton convenient
@GeorgeMarian did that comparison seem wrong?

@jcolebrand Convenience is hardly at issue when they're using PHP and a mailserver to bulk send files over email.

11:12 PM
@cbroughton nonsense. Email is easy to script, and it's easy to parse.

Heh. On meta someone went on a down-voting spree against me, and someone else just reversed it. ""The world is good again.""

It's also one of the first mass-accepted evented systems

@jcolebrand Nope. I think it's pretty much right on.

@jcolebrand Yes, but why in your right mind would you mass-email files over 10MB? IE: " Oh yeah, I'll just email you 4GB of random files now. "

I'm trying to think of a more accessible term than "transcendent fundamentals."
Not that I don't like that term, but I wonder if it'll confuse some people.

11:14 PM
@cbroughton most systems won't let you over 20MB
@GeorgeMarian do I want those people?
:p

@jcolebrand LOL Fair enough.

Also: Where can I view my current flag weight ?

It's listed on your profile, below your profile view count, for values of flag weight != 100.

11:32 PM
should I put my 567+ as part of my stackoverflow election mention?

@jcolebrand Ok, I think that's all I have for edits. I think you have the important points covered.

Merci for the assist

You're quite welcome.

Gonna run it by the other administrators for CohabU and get their feedback in the AM
Just two or three more things to write :\

11:37 PM
Oh, I'm two down, for sure, and another one mostly down.

Speaking of having lots of things to do, this new schedule is kicking my butt.

@TimStone Thanks. Looks like flag weight is almost too easy to get, I've only actually did stuff for ~4 days now, and I have 170.

@GeorgeMarian eh?
@cbroughton Up to 500 it's pretty easy
To go from 500 -> 600 takes some time
and from 600 -> 700 takes about twice as long
and 700 -> 750 takes even longer. I'm pretty sure 750 is still the peak

@jcolebrand The new job is about 45 mins away and I have to wake up at 4 AM to take the GF to work each morning.

And apparently 750 is "impossible" but I doubt that. (rounding)

11:40 PM
And, I'm swamped with freelance work. LOL

@GeorgeMarian oh eff that. Yikes

@GeorgeMarian Alright, I'll stop complaining about my 1:10 drive each way to work, because I don't have to do it nearly that early, heh.

Although I do know about the piling stuff on thing...I'd be alright, if I could just stay awake...

You should stop freelancing Tim
oooooh fffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu I remembered what I wanted to add to that writeup

11:42 PM
I'm still adjusting to it, but it's not too bad. Though, I'm basically worthless once I get home from work. I do get a little bit done each morning before work.

Apparently I've started sleeping "regularly" all of a sudden, which I can only assume means that there's something wrong with me.

@jcolebrand Nonsense, code all the things!

I still have some trouble getting to sleep, but it has gotten better now that I have to be on a schedule.

That actually reminds me that I need to finish fixing a userscript issue sometime today, whoops.
That's good at least. Sleeping at odd times makes planning everything else a bit tedious anyway.

11:44 PM
Yup. I did like being able to sleep as much as I happened to need at any time, but trying to setup meetings sucked.
Hmm, I should find some news radio for the commute. That would certainly be a good use of that time.

@GeorgeMarian or more podcasts

Yeah, I've thought about that. However, my car stereo doesn't have a line-in.

I bought one of these (looking for a link)

I'm assuming it's a short range FM transmitter.

11:54 PM
I'll probably do that eventually. Though, getting some news while I drive would be a good idea as well. That way I won't feel compelled to watch the news at 9.
That said, a good tech news podcast would be useful as well. I'd spend less time reading that stuff in the morning.

I recommend the twit network (of course)

I'll have to check that out. It seems like it'll fit the bill nicely.
Now, if I could only install iTunes on Linux. =/

They should offer downloads via RSS

They do have a link for RSS feeds, though it's coming over encoded for some reason.
