Considering that (1.) a single Looks OK review can dismiss the review entirely, and (2.) the SE team has stated that short review bans can be used as warnings
In this case, the review ban system is also the warning system. It's not uncommon for a user to get a 1- or 2-day review ban just to get their attention on a bad review. Moderators generally don't use the mod message system for reviews. — animuson ♦ Oct 27 '18 at 16:45

I'll just let him know

@Galastel: I haven't forgotten. Removing the beta label is possible, but I'm far less inclined to make an exception if it appears we made it due to a series of pings from users. It's not a healthy precedent, as you might imagine. — Jon Ericson ♦ 35 mins ago

Hmm. It might be worth to have someone take look at and edit the mobile apps post on mse meta.stackexchange.com/questions/154797/…
Most of the Android options are dead.
(also posting cause I might do that bit later)

I'd guess the edit would be "there aren't any", possibly with a link to xkcd.com/1174

Thought it'd be interesting to compare month-to-month post volume (all kinds of posts, including deleted) on various sites. February 2018 vs February 2019.

8:20 AM
@Shog9 did one of my flags have anything to do with that? curious

8:44 AM
@Magisch Can't you check if there was one handled around the same time :P

@Tinkeringbell I can't see when the CM ticket was created
Flow is like this: 1. I flag -unspecified time-> 2. Mod handles flag & creates CM ticket -unspecified time-> 3. CM handles ticket
I only know the absolute time of 1 and 2 and when 3 was completed, but not when 3 started

Well, assuming only you flagging for voting ring, then big chance, yes?

@Bookends SO is a big place. I doubt i'm even responsible for 10% of the serial voting flags last week

> "assuming you only flagged one voting ring"
more like 100 a day :P
@Magisch I'd say you're responsible for like 95%...

186 serial voting flags last week, 184 of which were helpful. No way for me to know how many resulted in escalations, but from hearsay and if previous ratios hold around 30% of that.

8:52 AM
@Magisch well, I don't know other regular users who know how to find voting ring effectively except you...

Maybe not that but people come across them organically. ~8% of the results I review are already manually handled by mod/cm
@Mithrandir I remember hearing once that I was about 30% of the flags back when I was flagging a lot more

9:30 AM
@Magisch Oh... Is that how you're supposed to handle such flags ;)
I'd escalate and leave the flag as a reminder that there's probably something to be done still...

Hmm...the quality on this seems to have degraded... oh well.

Nice! The weather there sure looks better than over here :)

It hasn't snowed in four years, so... :P

9:52 AM
Oh wow, your weather has colours. Over here we've opted for 1 shade of grey.

@Bart I see at least three shades looking out the window right now ;)
So I guess it's not that bad over here...

Luxury

Yeah, I know :) I got soaked on the way to the train though...
does give me an excuse to not wear my shoes in the office right now ;)

we have a storm warning here
supposed to get real windy after lunch

@MSOGA I can sense the 6-8 tons of sarcasm in there. lol
@Magisch saw in our media Alabama got very strong tornados, with casualties... hope everyone here are fine!

10:02 AM
@Magisch I like really windy weather, as long as it stays dry. If it rains, it ruins umbrella's and I spend a train ride shivering and trying to dry :P

@Tinkeringbell aren't parrots supposed to have hydrophobic coating on their feathers?

@Magisch Yeah, but if they're wearing the same shoes for years and forget to polish them, they get wet feet. My coat held up pretty well, though my pants also got a full load of water.

10:54 AM
Oh no!!!! Sirens are going and it isn't twelve o'clock yet :/
I'm not going to leave and miss lunch!

A hill... silent hill...

@Tinkeringbell What sirens?

:P Typical Dutch thing I guess, but each first Monday of the month they're testing the sirens. The ones that warn you for incoming airplane attacks and unhealthy gas leaks, that kind of stuff. If we had tornadoes we'd use them for those too :P
Usually, this also means office buildings test their alarms.

Ah, like periodical fire drill in Singapore

11:00 AM
@Tinkeringbell Ah, yes, our university has siren testing as well

I wish there was a distinction between "helpful - just coincidence / no action" and "helpful - actually a true positive" on flags

@Magisch I think mods are supposed to use the free text field for that (if it isn't comment flags)

i've never recieved such feedback

@Magisch :( I try to leave a such a thing whenever I mark a flag helpful but don't do anything else... If you flag something for deletion and I delete it, you can assume it was an actually true positive ;)
Perhaps on some sites this isn't feasible though, due to sheer flag volume

@Magisch if it's a true positive it goes booooooom

@JourneymanGeek I'm halfway guessing that when flagging serial voters this is a bit harder to check ;)

12:32 PM
Serial voting true positive can have several outcomes:
1. Votes get reversed. This means CM escalation and 20 minutes - 1 month delay
2. Sockpuppet gets deleted. This is usually instantaneous and visible as "-xx user was removed" in the person's rep page
3. Person / Sockpuppet gets warned. Not visible for non mods
4. Person gets suspended for rule violations. Visible from the profile. Usually but not always in combination with 1 or 2.

@Tinkeringbell eh. Even with mod tools I'm not very good at that ;p
Unless someone is nose-smackingly obvious

From what i've been told the mod tools regarding that aren't very good either

@JourneymanGeek I mean when someone flags a suspected serial voter, it's not that easy for that person to see how their flag was handled (regarding the 4 options Magisch posted above).

@Magisch there's a few folks with a knack for it
A little instinct a little pii ;p

And a lot of sleuthing...

12:49 PM
you can do a whole lot of sleuthing without mod access

@Magisch True. I'm kinda bad at it though. I usually leave it to other mods. ;)
(Or other mods beat me to it :P)
Should I have kept that a secret? :P

everyone's good at different things

But now everyone knows that I'm bad at knowing if they're serial voting ;)

at least you have a diamond (well 2 actually, but the point is the same)
I dont think anyone serial votes on meta

1:05 PM
@Magisch I hope not :P

By the end of TNG I got really tired of watching Riker position himself so his chest nearly touches Picard's right shoulder. Get a room, you two.

2:27 PM
@MSOGA I had trouble imagining that until I realized Picard was probably sitting while Riker was standing

@Magisch Okay, I've got time ;) Did you get the 'he's trying to get me to do stuff and the scrum master is being a lovely woman and keeping him away from me' part from last week?

@Tinkeringbell yes

@Magisch Well... we haven't really talked since, though last week he came towards where we were working and was intercepted by the scrum master. I've also picked up bits and pieces of gossip indicating that more and more people are starting to see problems....

seems like you have a scrum master worth their salt for once

Yeah, it really, really makes a difference :)

3:00 PM
Bad scrum is so much worse than no scrum

@Bart The problem with the previous two teams was that they came with an explicit (and after that implied) 'you have to work together with him'. So at first we really had to work together, then from January onwards we were in different teams but he could basically disturb my working whenever he liked. Now he has to go through someone else, and that person is doing a great job of blocking off everything :D
Bad scrum is doable with the right people :P

:D
At my previous company they tried to introduce scrum. But the word "scrum" was not to be mentioned according to the boss, because we (the devs) would not like it. We were entirely fine with it, and welcomed the change. Turned out the boss really didn't like it and sabotaged it wherever he could. Great fun.

Most times i've heard from friends about scrum it was some hilarious trainwreck

@Bart Ugh... The previous two teams really did do bad scrum, and the first and this one do mediocre I guess? This one fully realized they're not entirely SCRUM and they're fine with it, because there's just parts that can't be done within this company/infra structure.

user302202
@JohnDvorak Riker is taller. star-trek-world.info/stw/galerie/3/3/J_L_Picard+W_Riker.jpg (not a frame from the show, but same idea)

3:10 PM
But that also makes it so that we can actually finish stuff. Previous team the scrum master was wanting pure scrum and it just wasn't feasible but instead of working on methods that may not be entirely scrum but would allow for finishing stuff it was just 'no, we can't do that, it isn't scrum'

I found that it nearly almost always devolves into some SCRUM purist enforcing their vision of it on everybody else, causing lots of friction and a massive loss in productivity

Yeah, that's what happened here too

@Tinkeringbell I'm fine with a scrum version that works. If you need to adapt to your environment, go for it. But for us it already went wrong on time estimates for sprints. Whatever we suggested wasn't accepted. We had to squeeze in more work (we were already on structural overtime of 50/60 hours per week) and in the end it turned out that even our own estimates were on the low side. That wasn't accounted for, we were just told to work more/harder. :D

@Bart AAAGH. Always deliberate throw in an extra point when pokering :P
There's always something that goes wrong and makes you need it.

@Tinkeringbell our project manager quit when she went to the CEO to state "With conservative estimates we run 2 months over the deadline, we need to cut content from the game", and was told "No, make it fit in the time" ... of course with no expansion of the team :D

@MSOGA why are they so.... Orange??

3:42 PM
Looks like I missed a discussion about scrum trainwreck...
Me before knowing scrum: our projects are messy
Me after learning the ideal scrum on YouTube: yeah, this should solve most of the problems
Me after having the real scrum: what are we doing here...

@ShadowWizard ... let's not get into a discussion of people of color and cause another Twitter outrage.
