@Luna It may well be not as urgent as it first appears - you have time. What's going on?
If it's about your suspension, you will have received a mod message, which you'll be able to reply to if you want to.

Too many robs

Rob
The others are clones, I've been on the Internet a week and a half before it opened to the public.
2
I am also a Rob, on Physics. The Mod rob from Physics usually doesn't come to The Tavern, that is the other Rob.

@Luna Have you replied to the mod message?
Sounds like you already have a discussion going, then

huh? did you delete your account on Pets.SE?

@Luna I've let the Physics mods know you want to talk to them. That said - 99% of the time, suspensions have good reasons behind them, and they were probably aware of the evidence before they issued it. If you want to elaborate on the situation, some of us might be able to help you here.

Rob
1:00 AM
Your hint is here: physics.meta.stackexchange.com/q/11028/170832 your actual answer might come from one of the Mods on Physics. That depends upon your behavior there. If you are a nuisance that's not tolerated on that site.

@Luna I have a vague memory that you had an account on Pets.SE, now I couldn't find it. But maybe wrong person... nvm

@Bookends PrincessLuna, perhaps?
@Luna If you explain why you were suspended, we may be able to help.

@ArtOfCode the latest meta post might give some hints
@Luna do you have a pet cat, by any chance?

@Luna right. I suspect there's more to it than that, moderators don't tend to suspend people just for making unusual requests. What did the mod message you received say?

@Luna ah, nvm, wrong person indeed...

user302202
Just remember to use this in your reply, and you're all set.

user302202
@Luna Being suspended is not an emergency.

@Luna Sounds like there are deleted comments on that question that I can't see. Anyway - whether or not you are being honest here, you're gonna need to see this from an outsider's point of view. In revision 1 of that meta question, you said you started the bounty - no mention of a sibling. When someone pointed out that accidentally starting a bounty is basically impossible, you switched story to saying it was a sibling.

user302202
So, an example of dishonesty right here.

Rob
@ArtOfCode Emilio's answer: physics.meta.stackexchange.com/a/11069/170832 and only posts on Physics.Meta with mostly a lot of downvotes + the comment above = likely will be waiting for an answer.

JMac's comment sums it up nicely. To someone uninvolved, it looks suspiciously like you're fabricating stories to get around the normal conditions of the system. All for the sake of a whole 50 reputation.

"My [relative] did that" is the most overused reason that it's really hard for us to believe that easily, even assuming good faith...

Q: Someone upvoted all of my answers to get me banned

user10867010My annoying brother made an account just to upvote all of my answers, to try to get me banned; It worked and I'm now wondering if there's anything I can do about this, or if anything can be done to prevent this in the future. We share a computer so I assume the fact that the votes came from the ...

we don't know or even care if it's your twin, why it's important to let us know if they're twins???

@Luna Aye, you've said that plenty of times. Saying it more doesn't make it more believable. The fact that you only came out with that revelation after everyone told you it wasn't possible makes it seem like you're making it up.
So - look at the whole thing objectively. You've lost 50 rep in a bounty. That's not much, you can make it back pretty quickly if that's what you want. You're suspended for 7 days. That's also not a lot - take a week's break, use it to reflect on how you use the site, and come back in a week.
Right. You have a twin sister who can read your mind to figure out your password. Do you see why people aren't finding this believable?
@Mrs.Robinson let's not get too snide about it, eh?
1 message moved to Trashcan

I'm honestly worried that your twin is inside your body and mind, and you need to get it resolved by some professionals...
including passwords? or anything private matters? ugh, that's scary...

1:21 AM
@Luna Whether you believe that twins are connected or share thoughts or whatever, or not, no twins think so alike that they can literally pull a password from the other's mind. That's just not a thing. If this is a thing that happened, then change your password. If she figured it out because you used some attribute or knowledge you both share, then use a random password. Better, have a discussion with her about the inappropriate use of other people's accounts.
@Luna Color blind people can still see color, y'know. Even those who can't still see shades.
@Luna that... what does that mean

what are those custom languages?

@ArtOfCode You never read The Great Quarterback Switch?

@Alex nope

how many siblings do you have?

@Luna shades are plenty enough to do that. More to the point, what does this have to do with password security?

1:26 AM
@ArtOfCode It's a story about twins whose minds are so attuned to each other that they can literally switch bodies.

Rob
ESP in twins on Skeptics.SE.

@Alex Heh. Maybe we're all living in a book.

how many twins do you have?

@Luna Lemme make a theoretical point here. If you have a dog called Fido, and your password is FidoIsTheBestDog... that's gonna be pretty easy for anyone who knows you to guess, magical mind-reading powers or not. Likewise, if you've used your mother's maiden name as a password, piece of cake.
If your password is "B79@SO3&sw2l;!" instead... yeah, ain't nobody guessing that. Not even a twin.
that's literally the same thing

Do you have a search engine that can search in .00000000000000000000000000000000001 second?

I wonder... do we have any linguistics people in the Tavern? Sounds like a fascinating language to study.

Do you... also want to build a ship to clean up the space?
Oh right, I misread that..
But you also analyze data for living, right?
Hmm? Did you mean watching YouTube video on stats-related, or watching YouTube's stats?

@Luna We get tons of blatantly off-topic questions on this site, which we generally move quickly to close and delete. I'm just posting it here so people chatting can also go to vote to close it. Hence "close vote please".

Hmm, interesting... since when did you watch the YouTube Stats? How long have you watching that?
I might start doing that too if I have time

user302202
(Also the story of so many SO users, of course.)

Rob

@Mrs.Robinson for being told they can't have their coffee, walking out or tweeting about it

user302202
2:14 AM
All three.

What if the class had a no food or drink sign?
On the other hand what if the student had a good reason for the drink ( in which case there would be a need to work out reasonable accommodation with the institution)
@Luna erm so... If you want to say random things... This isn't really a great place. It pays to read and be engaged with the ongoing conversation.

3:10 AM
@JourneymanGeek The main thing, I gather, from watching a lot of these sorts of threads lately on Twitter, is the frustration over having to play by no food/drink/laptop etc rules

user168476
For various reasons, some of them very logical

No laptop thought
That's something I have never seen

@Ash yup
But there can be logical reasons for many of these

user168476
There can be, but I can see reasons that people would want to get around that

3:22 AM
But if you have a good reason, it might help to check first.

user168476
(I spend way too much time on Twitter, mostly yelling about romance novels)

user168476
@JourneymanGeek yeah, but getting proper accommodations is difficult even if you have like "valid medical reasons" for things

user168476
(That's in quotes because often universities especialy have very....interesting, usually ableist ideas on what counts as "valid")

@Ash that's the system being borked :/
On the other hand - some people abuse such things. The no food and drink rule is usually cause people leave behind litter, and spillages are a pain in shared spaces. It's a bit like how people with emotional support peacocks ruin things for people who literally need their assistance animal to function

4:00 AM
@Mrs.Robinson whatever happened to sitting in the back and hiding your drink behind your bag?

user168476
@JourneymanGeek yep! That's it exactly

Reminds me of when I worked in the computer lab & this one gal would come in with one of those motorized scooter things & ram people's chairs. On the one hand, it's gotta be frustrating, trying to navigate a small lab that clearly wasn't laid out for scooters. On the other, getting your chair rammed by a motorized vehicle is also frustrating.
Eventually, I'd try & just intercept her & guide her toward a workstation near the door
...this didn't seem to improve her mood any

@Shog9 as in, moped or Razor?
I suffered an accident on the latter, unfortunately.

That said that was a nice thing about studying at a remote campus. Tiny class sizes

My class sizes were really varied... one would be 15, another 300.

Lectures at proper campuses were huge
Especially in NTU
The place I finally got a degree at was tiny. I think I had a class with 4 people

I didn't ever have any that small.

10:18 AM
Would you please repeat this while speaking into this black stick?

@Fabby Let's put it in a simpler way. I am pretty sure you were kinda joking in that answer. Problem is that we live in a world where youtubers-wannabe think it is smart to do a viral video about "will a book stop a bullet fired closed range by a desert eagle gun?"

Why is that a problem?

@JohnDvorak agree. If someone is stupid enough to shoot themselves just for fun.... better let them do it.

I mean, just don't stand behind the book you're shooting at, and you're good

@ShadowWizard maybe at least try to not give them tutorials?

10:22 AM
@Derpy tutorial about how to shoot a gun? Too late, it's everywhere.
And in the US, any kid can buy as many guns as they want. Or just grab dad's gun from the drawer.

@ShadowWizard it's really happened

Boredom is the source of all that evil though, bored kids/teenagers do the most stupid and dangerous things one can think of.
e.g. here in Israel it's very common to see teenagers taking their parents car and race on public roads late at night.

And wanting their 15 minutes of fame

Going to max speed of the car.

@ShadowWizard I've never seen that personally

10:25 AM

@JourneymanGeek I know, @Derpy already mentioned it in the past.

When I'm a bored teenager, I'll flag comments or go train on my mountain bike :P

anyway...
Can anyone think of a reason some JavaScript function would run in strict mode when nor the function nor the file is marked with 'use strict;'

@Mithrandir you're special. ;)
lol
(you too @Derpy :))
@Derpy run where? How you see the mode?
Sometimes the optimizer itself is doing funny stuff

@ShadowWizard I can't. But you see....

Q: Sharepoint 2013: init.js in "use strict" mode

Thorinit.js started throwing errors after changing http-equiv meta tag. It looks like strict mode is being enforced on init.js but can't see "use strict" anywhere. Error: Accessing the 'caller' property of a function or arguments object is not allowed in strict mode Faulting code: function ULSOn...

10:28 AM
If you don't get actual error, don't think you should be worried.

Basically, I recently saw a farm that had the same problem showed in the above question
function ULSOnError(b,c,a) {
return ULSSendExceptionImpl(b,c,a,ULSOnError.caller)
}
^ this is a standard function found in a Sharepoint javascript file.
you can see it contains ULSOnError.caller
the browser reports an error on that line, stating that "access to caller isn't allowed in strict mode"
but I can't figure out why that script would be executed in strict mode.

The whole file could be in strict mode

@JohnDvorak the file is init.js, a default file in any SharePoint installation. It does not contain any "use strict;".
Already checked that.
So that is why I am wondering if strict mode can somehow be forced in any other obscure way
(wouldn't be surprised to discover some weird obscure Windows setting similar to internet explorer protected mode that forces strict mode everywhere)

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Bad keyword in link text in body (66): Cheap Dedicated Server Hosting | VPS Providers by red switches on stackapps.com

Such setting would break 90% of all pages.
Anyways, it should be easy to test that theory.

Q: Inconsistent scope of "use strict" on different web browsers (concerning arguments.callee and caller)

PangSituation: I found something strange concerning strict mode in Javascript. I am using an external, third-party Javascript library which was minified, has over 4000 lines of code, is not using use strict at all, and is using arguments.callee. I am using use strict in my own code, scoped with...

@ShadowWizard could be, but if that is right ....
wouldn't that mean that the ULSOnError method basically never works?
wait... maybe I get it now.
Give me a second...

@ShadowWizard Looking at its edit history, it looks like I'm the only one who bothered to maintain that FAQ in recent years

@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog yeah, and many others.

10:52 AM
@ShadowWizard It's said that Doom may have taught the Columbine shooters back in 1999

11:08 AM
think I somehow get it now.
the initial error is raise by a $.Ajax call.
I assume that is a strict function, since it comes from JQuery and JQuery is marked as strict.
so, somehow the ULSOnError SharePoint non-strict function is called from the JQuery strict one.

@Derpy oh. Nice find.

so, this would fit the IE example in the question you linked
> IE10 prevent your using caller to get a reference to a strict function, even when accessing caller on a non-strict function.
and in doing so it uses the not-really-fitting message.
weird.
thanks @ShadowWizard, at least the question was useful. I had already saw it, but the first time I didn't yet notice the connection (probably because I wasn't yet aware that there was a call to $.Ajax failing)
That said now a even weirder question remains....
WHY would the failure of a JQUERY call invoke the ULS logging infrastructure?
does this mean that the Sharepoint Javascript api actually has some low level hook that listen for failed WebRequest?
