8:05 PM
What setting have I bungled that I get emails for happy hour?

@TravisJ the notification one?

@Tinkeringbell "Features & Announcements"? This one?

So many Happy Hour followers... (who the h' are they??????)

Ah, is it because I subscribed to the event?
Must be it.
Still not sure why it sends an email though.

Id say either tips and reminders or inbox

8:10 PM
> This is a regular event, happening every 7 days until 12 / 18 / 3000.

Tradition never dies.

@andmyself You don't recognize me? :(

@Tinkeringbell Well inbox is off, so it must be tips and reminders.

@Tinkeringbell uh.. not you... but the avatar-less users ._.

@andmyself They're background characters. Every good pub scene needs a few of those!

8:12 PM
Yes!

So true!

Who else could possibly overhear our banter
If there were no background characters, then who could lend ears after all.

@TravisJ I was thinking of the epic bar fight scene, but okay :P

Lol, okay, that took a turn. So 1 rep users are just random characters in an epic bar fight? Your outlook is becoming clearer :P

@TravisJ They're the ones that give easy xp :P

8:14 PM
: Rename "New Contributor" to "Epic Bar Fight Participant".
6

But to be more serious: we just renovated the place. Don't y'all dare to start fighting!

Well, it's more like aggressive negotiating...

About what? Not paying the bill?

Who has to do a Tikkie ...

That's horribly Dutch :P
We should just profit from that not being a socially acceptable practice in other cultures :P

8:21 PM
true

@Tinkeringbell It was a Star Wars reference.
I understand that it was easy to miss, Disney killed Star Wars.

@TravisJ Sorry! I didn't watch any of those :/

None? That was from episode 2. Wait, you haven't see a single Star Wars?

@TravisJ Ive seen bits and pieces, but I can't remember watching a whole movie

I've known you so well for such a long time... and, and, now I just don't know who you are anymore
It was that twitter wasn't it.
shakes fist at twitter

8:25 PM
I'm still the same person. Now if I had actually watched a movie, I might've been changed XD

Still blaming twitter

o/

@TravisJ Sure. My Twitter is actually fun ;) it all depends on following the right people :)

8:31 PM
So, uh, what else is new?
Anyway, my latte is done and I am movin' on from this cafe. Baii o/

8:44 PM
@TravisJ I just poured myself another drink.... After cleaning part of the refrigerator because someone put the pickles back upside down and the juice was everywhere

Whatcha drinking?
I have this new mint tea and I'm worried about the effects of mint tea overconsumption today :D

I assume pickle juice.

@JonEricson Thank goodness no. I'm not pregnant :P
@Magisch Just a soda
It's called cassis. Dunno if they have that in other countries?

Pickle juice...?

Black currant.

8:56 PM
@Tinkeringbell Is that cherry-ish tasting soda?

beetlejuice

@Magisch blackberries, I thought.

... black currant.

@Magisch the cherry version is called Cherise over here

@Catija THAT's what is black currant?

8:57 PM
@KevinB I dare you to say that twice more.

I've heard that word many times but never bothered to look up what it actually is

@Catija Sorry! Those yeah :) thanks ;)

The blackcurrant or black currant (Ribes nigrum) is a woody shrub in the family Grossulariaceae grown for its berries. It is native to temperate parts of central and northern Europe and northern Asia where it prefers damp fertile soils and is widely cultivated both commercially and domestically. It is winterhardy, but cold weather at flowering time during the spring reduces the size of the crop. Bunches of small, glossy black fruit develop along the stems in the summer and can be harvested by hand or by machine. The raw fruit is particularly rich in vitamin C and polyphenol phytochemicals. ...
In the UK I'd drink Ribena. Good stuff.

Johannisbeeren!

8:58 PM
I'd have to ask though. What are blackberries then?! Because the Dutch word for blackcurrant literally translates to black berries

Blackberries look like raspberries.
... except black/purple.

Ah. Bramen!

@Tinkeringbell Brombeeren!

@Magisch A Brombeer is a grumpy person over here XD
Ribena looks good! I mostly drink Hero

9:02 PM
It's not a popular flavor in the US as far as I'm aware.

I actually have cassis flavor for my homemade carbonated water thing

It's.. kinda an old people thing over here ;) right now we have some because my grandma didn't empty the bottle at her last visit ;)

I've been obsessed with tea lately
about 3 litres a day or more

You getting enough water with that?

why wouldn't I be? Tea is mostly water

9:06 PM
Tea de-hydrates you tho...

3.. litres???

Not that crazy

@FreezePhoenix not compared to the amount of water in it

That's... 12 cups of water. Not that much...
12 cups as in the measuring cup :*

A can is about a litre, I usually drink a full can before lunch @ work, a full can after lunch @ work, and one at home in the evening
Tea has amazing variety. You can have a wholly different tea every day for a year and still come nowhere close to running out

9:10 PM
I know that water intoxication is a thing... dunno if it's the same case for tea though...

You can make tea out of just about any leaf/root/flower

@JourneymanGeek lol how do you survive

And there's a shop here that makes novelty tea
Also fresh ginger roots poured over with boiling water is just .. the closest thing a drink can get to pure joy :D

@andmyself you have to be drinking stupid amounts before that happens, though
given that it's recommended to drink 2 liters a day... probably unlikely at 3

I've been drinking >= 3 litres of water daily for quite a while and not really suffered ill effects from that
nor has my GP told me to stop

9:13 PM
@Tinkeringbell then why the heck did a parrot join while two were leaving at the same time and then it left abruptly too?!

as previously established tinkeringbell is omnipresent
whenever you contravene moderation efforts there's actually tinkeringbell right behind you ... silently judging.

@EKons Ssshhh. No one is supposed to know about minime!

@Magisch nah that's Shog
@ArtOfCode let me introduce you to a water addict... ;-)

9:29 PM
@EKons used to be 0

@Tinkeringbell Who are you?

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ If only I knew ;)

Jesus, I don't recall 1 a.m. to be an OT downpour hour

@Shog9 Do automatic answer deletions as a result of the question being deleted count towards answer bans? — Sonic the Introverted Hedgehog 3 hours ago
Not in this case — Shog9 ♦ 3 hours ago

I wonder what the upvotes to this could convey

9:34 PM
@Shog9 What about the general case?

Yeah, that question
Some random potentially Greek person's razor says it's probably just sympathy upvotes
But what do they MEAN? "I like it that you're banned"?
"Aww, poor soul. Here's a green +5 sign that won't help your case in a totally irrelevant question"?
"I am an anti-oblivion fighter and I see it my duty to negate other's opinions"?

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Hanlon is Greek?

@JourneymanGeek Occam was. Maybe
Note the word "potentially". I can use it in a court.
Oh, Surrey.
Well, Greek enough for me
If you draw a line from Tabriz to Surrey, by some margin of error, the middle is Greece.

Journeyman Greek?

Does he have a Razor?
And does he shave?
Anyway that's besides the point. It's gross. I don't wanna use his razor.

9:40 PM
Does he shave with a razor?

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I have a razer?

funny that I was currently watching YouTube videos about YouTube video that is Gillette's...

At least its not hanlons toothbrush

@JourneymanGeek A parking garage here in Austin was razed while I was away

@JourneymanGeek I can work with a razur

9:42 PM
create an article about Journeyman's Razer on Wikipedia

Since 2015, anything that enters Wikipedia enters existence. Seems legit
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog By journeymen? Gypsies?

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ By a razer of course

So, does anyone recall if mods decline or approve flags on chatty things on homew
. . . math.SE?
This site culture thing tends to get weird from time to time

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Ask the Math mods

Too much effort, extra tab

9:47 PM
Worth mentioning this:
yesterday, by Sonic the Introverted Hedgehog
@JohnDvorak To be fair, SE did refuse to migrate the Math in Russian site from hashcode.ru to SE 2.0 because they were adamant on allowing homework questions on their site.
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I don't know, make a new window?

Nah, I need to close the windows to be able to study tomorrow. Night

10:10 PM
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog the general case is: it's possible, though somewhat unlikely

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ It makes sense as a network of sites over one site with many topics ;p

10:37 PM
remind me why we dropped the rep limit on MSE back to 1 rather than sticking with 5
even just making it 2 rep would be enough to keep most of the off-topic forum questions out

how do you obtain 5 rep
guess you'd have to do edits or post an answer, or earn 200 rep elsewhere

10:51 PM
yup
either that or just give people 5 free meta rep for having participation elsewhere

@ArtOfCode in theory we want everyone to use MSE...
correctly

and therein lies the problem

@ArtOfCode This was already tested back when the Terms of Service notification rolled out.

remind me why we dropped the rep limit on MSE back to 1 rather than sticking with 5

@ArtOfCode that's an interesting problem though...
How do we keep MSE accessible while keeping out the riffraff

10:56 PM
@ArtOfCode Was it ever 5 at any point?

3 mins ago, by Sonic the Introverted Hedgehog
@ArtOfCode This was already tested back when the Terms of Service notification rolled out.

@ArtOfCode No, it was 2 at that point.

pretty sure it was 5
but eh, much the same effect

@JourneymanGeek Changing the site's styles so it's impossible to tell this site apart from Trilogy sites once you've scrolled down is definitely the wrong way to do it.

@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog hah.
Lucky we stopped them from changing SU's theme to a beta like one

10:58 PM
@JourneymanGeek Big banner on the /ask page saying "STOP! THIS IS NOT STACK OVERFLOW!" for all 1-rep users?

26
A: Sudden increase in off-topic posts on MSE

Tim PostUpdate (April 21, 2016) Note - we raised the minimum reputation here on MSE to ask to 2 from 1 (which should be just enough friction to slow this down) for the next few days. Update (April 20, 2016) Y'all now have 50 close votes a day while this persists, I plan to put it back to 24 before the...

@ArtOfCode actually something like that seems tempting.

@ArtOfCode There were plans to enable the /ask/advice interstitial on this site, but it fell through.

Just implement the banner and be done with it ..

11:00 PM
( oddly no one suggested that here meta.stackexchange.com/questions/306329/… )

I started running a survey on people who posted off-topic questions. I got two responses before I was told to shut it off because SE was going to come up with an official version. They never did. meta.stackexchange.com/a/306257/377214

Happy!?

I'm partly to blame for reducing daily close votes here from 50 to 24, though:
Jan 11 '18 at 9:27, by Sonic the Anonymous Hedgehog
@Shog9 Is MSE supposed to have 24 or 50 close votes per day, per user? It looks like it was extended to 50 on April 20, 2016, with the intent to reduce it back to 24, but that didn't happen.
Jan 11 '18 at 21:04, by Shog9
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog never got reverted, probably because that flood lasted a lot, lot longer than anyone anticipated.
Jan 11 '18 at 21:04, by Shog9
Reset now, thanks for the heads-up.
Maybe I shouldn't have given Shog a heads-up about this?

lol
Its probably ok
It was going to happen anyway

11:07 PM
Not Happy Hour :(

and I don't think the lost soul problem is that bad

🍺

@JourneymanGeek At least lost souls don't fly at you like they do in Doom

who says they don't
racks shotgun

aye, wording can be smithed, but that's the general idea

Also, the header should be "STOP! Look and Listen." ;)

Not Stop Collaborate and Listen?
(and I think most people here are too young to get that reference)

@andmyself Time to start that bar fight...

waffles

11:16 PM
...okay what is it with my answers getting immediately downvoted recently

@ArtOfCode someone dislikes you?

@ArtOfCode You made a friend?
4

(Happens to me sometimes....)

XD. Perfect teamwork

Definitely mad a friend.

11:17 PM
I stopped caring about random downvotes now

either that or I just fgorot hwo to wtrie

or less random ones

Come to think of it, I wanted at least a minimal alert when my child-meta post is downvoted...

Either they're lost and ask on the wrong site by accident, they're blocked from posting on the right site, they're dissatisfied with their experience on the right site, or they're asking a mis-worded site recommendation.

11:53 PM
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog Data seems to back up that assumption, actually. Just among not-deleted questions, something like half of questions posted by new users get closed: data.stackexchange.com/meta.stackexchange/query/971285. I expect if you included deleted questions, which I can't do with the data explorer, that'd be significantly higher.

Rob
Thanks for the invite to happy hour. Back in a few.
