Rob
6:55 AM
In lieu of math models surrounding me I present this model of the universe:

@Rob it's... alive! :D
@Tinkeringbell meh++

@ShadowWizard Good :)

8:46 AM
Good boy

8:59 AM

Morning

11:17 AM
@Derpy considering mobile web had animated avatar for years, I assume it won't be fixed either.
It might be fixed as part of the profile page responsive design changes, in 6-8 years.
(as side result of course.)
ordering burgers for whole family

Rob
Broken on mobile can take a while to fix. Rice and coffee anyone?

11:38 AM
@Rob thing is now it's broken on main, not broken on mobile.

Rob
11:59 AM
@ShadowWizard They're mixing it up. Variety is the spice of life.
Did you see the humor in the modification of the image you uploaded earlier, the face rice dish?
It freaked out "and myself".

12:53 PM
OMGF!
Does the "Enlightened" badge means those who read the answer got enlightened, or the poster got enlightened? ._.?

I see

Rob
@andmyself Enlightened - Answer first and get 10 upvotes. If your answer is correct then the questioner is enlightened by receiving a great answer. If you simply post something humorous that gains a lot of upvotes, or on more than one occasion post an incorrect answer that gets a lot of upvotes, everyone is enlightened that badges are awarded by completing a fixed set of conditions - whether the criteria is useful is another matter.

1:27 PM
@Rob You might not have achieved it yet.

/me shakes fist at @Glorfindel ... I was answering that Meta question ... :p

inb4 this question gets closed while someone is writing an answer???

@Bart oops ...

Rob
1:49 PM
@JourneymanGeek I have it for Astronomy and in Space, and some points in between.
"Before enlightenment; chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment; chop wood, carry water."
- Buddha

2:09 PM
@Rob moo

2:27 PM
@Rob What do we do during enlightenment?
Netflix maybe

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ we flip the switch
that way we can chop wood and carry water. WITH LIGHT!

I think it was called Mahabharata then

actually no
The Mahabaratha is a story of the fall of man from grace

Game of Thrones

Literallyh the Mahabaratha is the transition from an age of mild enlgitenment to an age of darkness.

Rob
2:38 PM
@JourneymanGeek Moo? - so backwards that would be ... 🎐

No.
Moooo

Rob
That's what it says ...
or ooooooM if you prefer.

But...
WHAT DOES THE FOX SAY?

Rob
I'd need to look at the thread on Meta?

Rob
2:44 PM
Moo, 🐖, penguin.
The costumes remind me of the video for which I will not post a link, though it's a better odd song: Bloodhound Gang - The Bad Touch
Sound of a real fox: youtube.com/watch?v=KJmkM346058

I am really tempter to reply with an experimental music video from a weird author a coworker of mine is a big fan off.

David Fullerton on January 18, 2019

A loooong time ago, we used to post an annual “State of the Stack” update on the company and community. Then at some point it became an infographic which was… listen, everyone was doing infographics in 2011. Now it’s 2019, the company has grown and changed in so many ways, so we’re bringing this tradition back and taking a look at how far we’ve come while being open and honest about how much work we have left to do.

2018 was a big year! Some stats:

Across all of Stack Overflow and the Stack Exchange network, we saw 9+ billion pageviews from 100+ million users over the course of the year. …

There's no way that I'll be able to accept an answer that for a question which I asked using a new account whilst on incognito, right?

@AvnishKabaj Not unless you kept the tab open, I think

I feel bad for the answerer who took out their time
Oh well
Thanks

@Derpy 4'33", thank you.
@AvnishKabaj At the very least you can upvote it with your account

@Feeds I guess they're hiring? :P

Rob
3:33 PM
@Tinkeringbell Over two dozen openings with mention of benefits only, not pay. 🚩

@Rob Despite certain co-workers, I'm going to stick here ;)

@andmyself Sorry, whatever joke you planned, I am afraid I don't get it. May be for the better, probably.

Rob
I'd only be willing to telecommute, like I'm paying rent in London or New York - let's move to San Francisco ...
6'9" ?

4:06 PM
Nope, the video I was thinking of is far weirder and somehow "disturbing". Our coworker is known to have pretty strange musical taste.
As for the video itself, let's just say that one shouldn't try to mix fractals and cows in the same "work of art"

4:45 PM
Cow fractals sounds fun

... just noticed that it is indeed the first result youtube gives for "cow fractal"
I advise you to avoid clicking

5:11 PM
@Rob Pay is listed on most of them if you open the specific posting. For example: stackoverflow.com/company/work-here/1470819/ux-researcher

@SmokeDetector, you seriously need to stop posting stuff with 2 TPs already on it

Rob
K

Err,, I'm 150km far from that city, SO Job's "Locate Me" feature...

Rob
5:27 PM
@Catija There's a pay calculator so each individual can obtain an approximation of what will be offered. At least they are open about the information. Those pay rates would attract enough people, not sure why there's so many openings.

My job isn't on that list. :( :P

you're its patch ;D

above our pay grade ;-P

So true.

But seriously, pay calculator only really works for engineering jobs and even then take it with a grain of salt. It's meant to give you a ballpark figure in cases where we have a LOT of data to compare with, so the further from dead-center-normal you get the less applicable it is.
If you don't have 100+ people with roughly your skill level and experience competing with you for the same job in the same location... It's probably not terribly useful.

5:34 PM
hm... so, if I were the expert in my field, would me shouting "I GET TRILLION BUCKS A MONTH OR I SUE" be an issue in an interview? :P

heh
that's happened here
well, not the sue part

just add PHP...

@EKons I think we have a site for that ;)

5:50 PM
@Catija seinterviews.SE? :P

Rob
I only played with it for a couple of minutes. What I saw is that it seemed bottom heavy, you get "enough" with minimal experience but if you're an expert it doesn't increase proportionally. I'd have to get past the part about only working 4 hours a day for those rates, and there's people whom would work for less. That's why I left tech decades ago, and why I can buy a tiny powerful computer for $1K (my phone). Desktops would start at ~2 or 3K if every part were made in North America, instead
I can buy a top of the line computer (but not a ridiculous one) for 1 weeks pay.
Also, others have purchased their phone for a 1/3 the price of my S9+. Maybe not as good as mine, but far more bang per buck.

1 hour later…
7:02 PM
somewhere after this announcement for adding postswithdeleted a change was made to not sanitize the tags fields for deleted questions. Is there an "official" annoucement post of that event? I searched but can't find it.

Rob
Technology being made offshore did provide some advantages to North Americans whom lost their jobs (me included). 50 years ago there were imaginary TV props like the silly shoephone of the series "Get Smart" or the somewhat more useful wristwatch 2-way radio of Richard Tracy. Such foolishness has been replaced by modern-day usefulness, like the GPS/2-way Video chat watch:

Whelp, not surprisingly the probing has begun theverge.com/2019/1/18/18188174/…

Rob
They charge 20% or more higher prices in some countries to pay for subsequent lawsuits, netting a profit.

Not about Stack Exchange Network software /cc @sha @bar @glo i think i need to design custom layout butt don't know how?‭ - aqibwaseem‭ 2019-01-18 19:45:29Z

why does the event notification come a whole two hours early

because that is how it is implemented
it is the heads up for the upcoming meeting

y tho

1 hour later…
9:08 PM
heya!

hi :)

9:39 PM
I always assumed PDF upload was not a thing, but it appears to have been possible in the past. I'm still not sure if I'm misunderstanding the issue here but for me uploading a PDF doesn't work today, nor in a post (with the new uploader), nor in chat. Then there still is that confusing fakepath thing ...

C:\fakepath is a standard: all compliant browsers must add that string before a filename, no matter what operating system you're using. — ArtOfCode 12 secs ago

we had so many users complain about the fakepath thing that we changed it to some random wordplay
in our web based ERP system

@ArtOfCode which I admit is utterly confusing if you're on an *nix box ...

yup
