Morning... with new laptop adapter ._.
does it fit your lap properly now?
it top...ples
03:15
laptopple
laptipple would be more appropriate for happy hour
laptipple might indicate you overshot the ballmer peak by quite a bit
Laptoppled your laptipple? Juan Sheet of Plenty...
Yes, it's 3 AM.
hah
I just got home from work ._.
I was on a 12 hour shift ;p
03:54
Sleep.
naw, got a day shift coming up and need to normalise my sleep cycles.
Also I'm a bit wired from yesterday.
You say that like you're not always weird. :P
weird, yes wired no ;p
Basically was up all night firefighting.
HAHAHA Totally misread that.
funny thing is the rest of the team was brilliant
Wasn't one of those nights where the folks on both sides were boat anchors ;p
04:02
That's great. :D It's always nice to hear about high-functioning teams. I've been reading this great book about groups - The Culture Code... it's fascinating.
04:15
One of my bank's website is still using Legacy Symantec PKI and that made my Chrome mad...
04:44
@Catija lemme put it this way - I'd complain more but my work is covered by the official secrets act ;p
@JourneymanGeek So glad I'm not in that line of work any more.
Well, I take what I got ;)
I'll start looking around come feb/march ;)
Its not really the line of work, as much as the way things are done
(but multiple levels of outsourcing hardly helps either ._.)
2 'scam' HNQs on Monies.SE? :O
@JourneymanGeek I think I remember you saying that having this job might give you a leg up in looking for future work... is that the case, you think?
@Catija it basically means I don't have a big gap in my resume till the next one.
Probably should chase the data center side of things, its more interesting I suspect, and probably fits my skillset better. ANd I pretty much have this job unless I quit
04:54
Oh, well, the latter part of that sounds good, at least. You'd said you had a contract, so I was assuming once the contract was up, the job was up. Good to know you have some flexibility.
Oh, Its complicated.
The bodyshop that 'owns' my contract has a termination clause
the company the subcontracted me out to has a fairly standard one month notice period.
If I re-up, there's no termination clause after that
Thing is since its "government" they need folks who're local (which narrows the pool a lot) and are willing to work, well, strange hours.
Ah, that's not bad. If you re-up are you locked in to another 9 or 12 months or ... whatever?
Apparently not
Well, that gives you a lot of flexibility to find another job.
04:58
Particularly the weird hours... lots of time for interviews. :P
ANd least for now, working government probably should help me with marketability on that other thing I need applying for ;)
ya
HAHA. Lady Geek. :D
Hypothetical future mrs geek ;p
You've been upgraded. No longer Mr. Geek, now Lord Geek, so she's Lady Geek. :D
Wait, I got peered?
;p
05:02
What do you think being a mod on MSE does?
I'm still working that out ;p
(and a good many other things ;p)
Well, now you know something.
Well, maybe ;p
Its still the strangest moderatoral seat as far as I'm concerned ;p
Don't look at me. I've been confused about moderating MSE for months... you can see the stats.
Well, I've always said, the mechanics are usually the easy bits
My stats are basically "seeing numbers in the flag queue bothers me"
Real mod work's the stuff that's out in the open. And well, metaing meta is... interesting? ;p
05:14
I used to go crazy when there were unread indicators on my phone apps... I have them turned off on many of the apps for that reason... but something about being a mod on IPS and never being able to get rid of all of the flags... it doesn't bother me as much.
Well SU's on 0
here is as low as I can get
SO's at like 300 right now. :P
that's lower than usual right? ;p
HAHA. I don't know. I think it's about average, though I've seen it at zero before, too.
I think the biggest number I have seen is 50
05:20
There were times IPS was up in the 60-80 range.
That was before we got Tink and AJ, though.
oh this was one guy
I'm going to go investigate my eyelids.
... they may have cracks... may take a few hours. ;)
XD
good idea. Make sure you are thorough. Those cracks can be sneaky
06:04
@andmyself I read movies and got confused :D

Q: Using Google CDN to load scripts gives poor user experience in China

Peter OlsonHere in China, pretty much everything by Google is blocked by the government. If you request anything from a Google domain, it will give the appearance of loading for a while and then give back a DNS error. Stack Exchange uses a Google CDN to deliver some scripts, which means that users in China...

A quick question that I always forget: is it possible to merge unregistered account with registered account?
I think the only limitation is that you can't merge unregistered account with another unregistered account?
@andmyself users can request it using the contact page.
I think either is possible as long as you can prove they're both yours.

I remember you're on a military site.. if you're allowed to use the internet on personal devices, is there a reason they don't have a wifi completely disconnected from the rest of the network?

Rob
15:26

Rob
Rob
Ah, gotcha
Military is a 2 week a year obligation
@andmyself looks like it. Your comment is the best option for them. We don't generally manually merge accounts without a request from the owner.
@JourneymanGeek for everyone of a certain age or are you in something like the reserves in the US?
@Catija the former
We're considered part of the military proper
Actually it's the Israeli model with tweaks. There's a mandatory conscription period and a term of service
It's about a decade then you're in the reserves
15:34
National service
Yup
But that's really an official euphemism for conscription
Both men and women?
I think Israel does both.
Our founding fathers didn't feel conservative Asian society was ready for it
Yeah. Our mexican Israeli advisors suggested bit be universal.
We went another way
15:37
Ah.
Rob
Rob
16:23
@JourneymanGeek They're synonyms, but the word conscription is usually used during war time... At least, that's my understanding

What does it mean if a link to a question returns 404 even if you have a privilege to see deleted questions something? anime.stackexchange.com/questions/50019 returns 404 even for me... is it a deleted tag excerpt/wiki?
That's possible.
21:30
Hmm, the actual question that should have been asked in the first place: are automatically deleted posts from deleted users soft-deleted or hard-deleted?
Nothing is ever hard-deleted
there have been like... two questions ever hard-deleted
Good to know, and yeah, that's also what I believe... thanks!
@andmyself Oh so that's what's been causing the maintenances
Pandora's question
22:11
One more thing: is it possible for the tag's created date to be updated to a newer one if it has been burninated once before?
23:06
@Derpy done!
Found it really cheap on eBay. Almost looks too cheap...
Will probably reach before the cheese swag from SE. :D
@Mithrandir don't think so, e.g. many times people post private data by mistake, flag, and mod redact it. It's hard deleted in such case as far as I remember. No?
Or at least not available even for 10k users and mods.
Also, Nick hard deleted one my MSE posts in the past since it contained a secret IP that I stumbled upon by chance and asked about. So...
@ShadowWizard at least I ought to believe this hasn't happened on Anime.SE...
@andmyself why?
@ShadowWizard redacted is distinct from a question being hard deleted
@ShadowWizard nah, nothing serious... it just started with this meta question and my journey to find it by brute-forcing the post ID.
Unless those questions were hard-deleted for no reason, I don't believe that's the case...
@Mithrandir so who can view a redacted question?
@andmyself hmm.... well dunno then. Can a mod see that question you linked before?
23:21
Haven't asked them, but they came in pair; 50019 and 50020. 50018 is a normal post, 50021 and 50022 are tag excerpt & wiki
@ShadowWizard A question isn't redacted. You redact the revision history.
That's how stuff like PII is handled - it's edited out and then redacted.
@Mithrandir but if you redact the first and only revision... ?
Pretty sure I saw some example a while ago... though not sure I got 404 page as @andmy describe.
@ShadowWizard That doesn't work.
It's not possible to initiate a redaction without at least two revisions.
AFAIK.
ohh
Oh well, was worth trying. :)
!!/blame
@ShadowWizard It's Taryn's fault.
23:28
(You do always start the reaction from the first revision that it's applicable, though.)
> JasonC: your face is redacted.
2
rofl that's so Jason!!
We lost so many people over the years. :(
CRABOLO too..
@Mithrandir Reminds me of my post about why the initial version is called a revision.

Strong wind and rain?
Here is cause electricity to go down really fast.
Couple of years ago such storms caused big parts of Israel to stay dark for long days... four days for me, some didn't have electricity for two weeks (!).
Part of it was because those who could fix it went on a strike to get better salary, saying they work too hard. And they have the best salary in Israel. :/
And of course.... they got what they wanted.
