._.

@NormalBot Yep, the API shows that his account no longer has the staff bit.
(wanted to see if they reverted back to non-mod staff member)

Though, I'm a little creeped out - and I kinda think this is the sorta thing we ought to wait for something a little more substancial on.

2:52 AM
@AdamLear That reminded me of something. I just checked this question (which you marked as being reviewed) and I found that while Joe Friend's second duplicate account has been deleted, the number of duplicate account pairs on SO has increased to 15 from 6 (and by one on SU). Perhaps there's a bigger overarching bug that caused the recent marked increase?

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog didn't we have many talks about pinging people to fast track things? ._.
Appropriate channels please!

3:26 AM
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog That's very possible. I'll make myself a note to take a look next time I'm on bug duty

1 hour later…

2 hours later…
6:46 AM
@JourneymanGeek looks like Adam is cool with that though, see above.
@AdamLear I was under the impression there is no more "bug duty" thing where a developer gets to pick small bugs to fix as they see fit? Something Tim said... Glad to see I got it wrong. :)

@JourneymanGeek :D

7:26 AM
@JourneymanGeek what happened there? :\

@ShadowWizard something about joe friend no longer having his MSE staff bit
but lets not speculate too much

Interesting. If you flag a comment and then go to a new page and then use the back button to return to the page with the flagged comment, it doesn't show your flag. So you can flag it again. But it seems like it automatically transfers the second flag to another comment. Does that make sense?

7:48 AM
morning
@ShadowWizard I know, he probably will miss it. But I still wonder if he would be happy with what I made :P
@ShadowWizard Define "real winter"

@Magisch Looks like he's working at Microsoft again. linkedin.com/in/jfriend Aside from that... yeah, no need to speculate.

8:12 AM
Good morning!
It's dreary, it's rainy, it's still a bit dark...
but I've got christmas lights and I'm working from home so I can actually chat today! :D

@Tinkeringbell well, I have no x-mas lights but I do work from home until sprint review meeting at Utrecht. I probably have just enough time outside to get wet ...

Flowers like rain, right? :P

Also keep on eye on that Den chatroom ... it gets out of control ...

Rainy here in Austin as well...and I misplaced my umbrella...

@Tinkeringbell I guess ;)

8:17 AM
I went outside today. It wasn't good. Fell down the station stairs, tweaked my neck. And now they're repairing the roof at work ... including noise. Stay at home if you can.

@rene Well, the room description specifically says that pings are allowed

@rene Pfft. The only place I ever let my guard down, and people say the room is out of control :P

lol
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog true that, I shouldn't complain and I'm not. I'm in a jolly good mood today

I'm not...

@Mithrandir Okay, spew...

8:23 AM
@Magisch his twitter account is also suspended.
Well...

No conspiracy theories? :P

@Tinkeringbell It's cold, wet, and dark. My hands are numb. I have to clean the entire house almost single handedly. On top of that, people are talking about imminent war in my part of the country, and I'm kinda sleep deprived. That sums it up, I think.

@ShadowWizard Possible that his accounts were compromised and the bits were removed from his account as an emergency measure

@Mithrandir :( That's a lot of bad. Why do you have to do the cleaning? :/

Because nobody else is home.
Well, my mother is cooking.

8:26 AM
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog I hope so, better than the alternative. Still, official announcement would be nice, it is a major scale issue.

@Mithrandir So, there'll be nice food sometime later to make up for stuff a bit?
Also... I thought the war bit had blown over? There hasn't been anything in the news that I've missed, have I?

@Mithrandir blocked behind join wall (I am on mobile)

@Tinkeringbell Yes. That's later, though :P

8:28 AM
@Mithrandir That font size o.0

@ShadowWizard I'm on mobile too. It says Stack Overflow up until November 2018, Microsoft December '18 - Present

Hmm...
So guess we won't have responsive design after all. :(

...and there's a new job listing up for product manager

@Tinkeringbell TL;DR Israel discovered and is destroying underground tunnels built secretly in the northern border to allow enemy troops to make big surprise attack when the time comes. That enemy is not happy with that, and might attack as response. (losing the surprise bit of course but still, war.)

@Tinkeringbell a good time to go to the calendar and see today joke. :P

8:35 AM
@ShadowWizard Thanks ;) That means I can give up on trying to read that post ;)
@Derpy I will.

@Tinkeringbell dunno.. It might contain more things. :)

@ShadowWizard Reading a font that big isn't my favorite thing in the world :P

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog hmm... Still possible his LinkedIn account was hacked too, SO always look for new PM as far as I know.
@Tinkeringbell weird, font isn't so big for me.

@ShadowWizard Are you on mobile? :P It is loading a mobile web page for me ;)
On my big screen, that means a huge font size.
Zooming out doesn't help.

It is an abnormally large font.

8:40 AM
@Mithrandir why NormalBot message was nuked if he only asked about Joe not being employee anymore?

@ShadowWizard I think @JourneymanGeek considered it creepy

@Tinkeringbell ohh... Yup. Go here then: jpost.com/Opinion/… /cc @Alex

@ShadowWizard That's the same.

Weird. Removed the mobile prefix in url...

This is one motivation for making a responsive design. No need to worry about the right type of link to share on cross-platform services.

8:43 AM
@ShadowWizard I tried that :P It just gets re-added ;)

Buh. Well you will have to rely on my summary then. ;)

@Tinkeringbell Probably your first click on the mobile site saved a cookie that makes your browser go to the mobile site always? Try accessing it from a private window.

That is terrible UX for a site.

@Tinkeringbell Same here.

resisting urge to joke about the unconfirmed scandal
success

8:46 AM
@Shadow @Tinkeringbell I was wrong. The solution is to delete /amp from the URL; see jpost.com/Opinion/….

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog not relevant for me, on mobile so get redirected to the mobile version as expected.
Expected easy way to share non mobile url.

"AMP" is basically a service used by the Google app for Android; it partners with websites to create special "fast-loading" version of the webpage which is subsequently cached by Google; when you tap on such a story, you load the cached version. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to view non-AMP versions of such stories, so some sites like Ars Technica supply explicit links to them.

@Bart ouch! Are you OK? Go see a doctor... :)

@ShadowWizard Right, but you're loading a full-featured version of the story, not the AMP pared-down version; see above.

@ShadowWizard yeah, I'll be fine. Just tweaked a muscle. Will be a fun weekend I guess, but other than that no damage.

8:51 AM
@Bart lucky you, I guess. Keep safe! ;)
@Derpy non stop rain, temperature lower than average.

@ShadowWizard Just a case (hah) of annoying stairs with steps that are slightly too low. Breaks up the rhythm if you're not paying attention.

@ShadowWizard non stop rain. Isn't that Autumn (or England all year)?

@Bart hehe. So you blame yourself?
Lol

@ShadowWizard the stairs haven't changed, so I guess it's all me :D

@Bart also... What were you thinking about that you were not paying attention? ;)

8:56 AM
The sad thing ... work. :D

@Derpy not in Israel. Days with non stop rain are rare. :)
Last thought about Joe... If it is case of switching jobs why his twitter account got suspended? Something is fishy. I hope a fisherman will make order in this soon enough. :)

9:21 AM
@ShadowWizard apparently NH's normal account is suspended network wide. So there's also the matter of a suspension circumvention.

9:34 AM
@JourneymanGeek really? :o

@Magisch ya. No idea what's the story so don't ask :p

internet sleuthing intensifies

9:51 AM
I personally decided it wasn't worth digging. I have 200 other things to do

10:17 AM
@JourneymanGeek like burinating this
(there is also a flag I just raised on meta, needed moderation on a more sensible case that is better not reported here)

@Derpy gone like your homework

10:35 AM
looks like they're gone already

@JNat The MO account still exists

meh
the IP's already blocked

shrug I handled the MSE ones ;)

@JourneymanGeek Did you change nicknames? :P

looks like smokey did a number on them - but that's one thing we don't have a great alternative on
@Tinkeringbell no, I merely wander around underfoot, unseen. Like a small dog.

10:39 AM
@JourneymanGeek what do you mean?

@Magisch When Smokey deleted posts, we don't get to see the spammer and delete the account ;)

what tink said

ah

@JourneymanGeek On a note of replying to questions to other people, I'm guilty too :P
I should really work on that :P

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog account deletions probably need human oversight still

@Magisch I don't like small underfoot dogs. They manage to always leave hair on your pants :P

quick question - the SE imgur upload does not handle transparent background images?
seems everything gets converted to a white background .jpg

@Derpy does this happen with all sizes or only the non-original sizes?

^ There's a second one on the same post

@Stijn never mind, I think I must have missed something.

Sorry, I am especially confused today. More than usual. Been working on some code that rivals SharePoint levels of entropy, nonsense and absurdity.

@Derpy Want to borrow a co-worker? He's probably an expert at making sense of that stuff, as he's writing code the same way :P

@Tinkeringbell you know Tinkering.... the more we chat, the more I expect to find out someday that we work in the same office.

@Derpy I'll look tonight ;) I've got a tab pinned on my PC, saves me a lot of looking ;)

@Tinkeringbell at least I hope you will like the joke. Haven't been very lucky with that reply, I doubt many even bothered to open the script and run it.

@Derpy I must admit I'm guilty of that on some of the snippet entries ;) I have no interest in watching a watch for example ;)

also, very suspicious. Seems some replies are getting strategically downvoted. By what I mean I noticed some mass-downvotes on most answers in the last few hours.
Like most answers received two downvotes in the same timeframe.
Not that downvotes count a lot there, but sure helps in pushing answers visibility down since most users will only look at the first 6-8 submissions ^_^'

I know, my post got one such downvote too, I think. Not today though, but I suddenly had a downvote and ended up under three other posts.

12:55 PM
I meant that I see that a lot of answers were downvoted exactly 58 minutes ago, which is clearly bulk downvote by someone.
Again, I don't care much but it is very visible.

Hmm.
At least it doesn't seem they hit the frontpage...

downvotes have a cost, so to optimize gain, only downvote posts near your current score.
downvoting a 200 score post wont move it an inch. Downvoting a 10 score one will push it down a lot.
Again, quite expected.

True. I still don't like the idea of people downvoting posts when downvotes don't matter, but I don't think I can do anything against it ;)

@Tinkeringbell Oh, it gets better. There are at least three answers that basically are "dupe answer"

@Derpy You may flag those, I think. The rules are clear that entries should be original ;)

@Tinkeringbell define "original". My initial plan was not to post an advent calendar (which despite looking banal is still a lot of work. Most now have just to wait, I am still working on filling in 25 different jokes), it was to use the Internet Archive to create a visual history of SE site style evolution
then, while I was working on an animated version...

A: Time for some more swag!

Jon SampsonPerhaps it would be prudent at the end of this, the Stack Overflow Decade, to look back into the mists of time to see what was seen by those who came before. And so, I give you: A Visual Retrospective With great thanks to archive.org. Now, in the time before time, when the great barren chaos ...

someone made it first.

@Derpy Yeah, someone did that for SO. I don't like that post, it's too long and you quite clearly see it's a point where a lot of people stop scrolling..

I dropped the idea.. some other users instead basically copied it for their submission.
That said, if the staff is fine with that so be it.

There's two Time magazine covers too ;)

like before, now in gif version! YAY!

@Derpy That would've been soo much better than that really long one :P

@Tinkeringbell why conditional? You should totally vote for it :P

@Tinkeringbell you have mod magic to find out if that was serial DVing
and you can cm escalate

@Magisch I don't think I know how to use that magic properly ;)

@Magisch "serial". Mostly mass. As I say, someone downvote a group of answers on the swag question in a very small timeframe. Not very worth checking.

1:19 PM
:D

Atlas, don't do it for me since it doesn't do much damage to my current position. I mean, I dropped some positions, but it is not like I would win in the first place.

@Tinkeringbell yep, you were right.

@Tinkeringbell all feels rather pointless to be honest.

@Bart Well, I'm leaving them more so people understand why their post gets deleted in under a minute ;)

I am now somehow tempted to ping JNat and ask about those "copied" answers.

@Bart rarely
but honestly that's more for us than them

1:34 PM
I usually don't bother posting such comments but they do help, I agree. But really that just means there's something wrong with the description of the Close Vote reason.

@Bart 1 out of 100

it feels kinda off to just nuke things without an explaination

And that 1 is someone who was gonna respond to ANY comment anyway

besides, shock aside, its not that significant considering how bloody the whole war was.

Or maybe it is
The US stock market went up by 2.5 percent babies

the damage from allied bombings in europe was just as bad. As were more traditional bombings in japan.

@JourneymanGeek not that significant in the larger scheme. But still people ...

@JourneymanGeek Act like a grownup... oh wait, those are the ones waging wars.

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ well, someone tried "Ok, if you'd be reasonable" and...

1:41 PM
@Bart I seem to remember that about 3 or 4 years ago NHK broadcasted a small clip of the usual Atomic bombing anniversary celebration in Hiroshima. I remember some representative from America doing some really massive slip up / blunder... but I can't really focus.

@Tinkeringbell precisely!
I'd rather not get into a fight.
But if I did, I'd like the other guy to remember it was a mistake.
Now people forget. Other than its first use, the nuclear bomb is a weapon most effective when not in use
Its a bougeyman. Its a prospect so horrible that a full scale war basically becomes unthinkable

That's why we need 5000 of it. For good measure

AH! No wait! I remember now! It wasn't the Hiroshima anniversary celebration!

Mutually assured destruction is keeping us safe ...

@Derpy Trump's inauguration?

1:44 PM
@Bart I don't know how long that'll last... It only takes 1 spark to ignite a powder keg. I'm all for not having stuff that can kill from afar in the first place..

@Bart Meh, I think the only thing keeping us safe is they don't have a plan for after the first bombs. When you can achieve the same results and keep it predictable

@Tinkeringbell which is how a lot of western europe is now.
Makes our military happy. Cheap tanks ._.

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ An America representative sent / delivered it some paper cranes as a sort of "best wishes" thing to the Japan representative (forget if it was emperor, ambassador or what...) just after the Fukushima incident.

Little problem: basically, to say to Japan that they where sad for them for the Fukushima incident (a Nuclear plant incident) they sent them the very symbol Japan chose for remembering the atomic bombing

@JourneymanGeek How do tanks help with flooded stuff? :P

@JohnDvorak Toothpicks

No war this year, we're smart enough to not give you things you can stab each other with.

@TimPost two words. Cheese Knives.

2:33 PM
@JourneymanGeek Again?!

Naw, just the once.
Its still potentially stabby.

@JourneymanGeek Sure, but only to stab cheese with...

Okay. Two stack exchange users enter a room. There are two cheese knives. Do they (1) stab each other or (2) make endless jokes about cutting the cheese? I guess (1) depends on how bad the jokes in (2) were.

(besides, I sat out that one. I think I really couldn't use more cookware until I move out, in...)
@TimPost sometimes, the jokes cut deeper.

I know. It's not at all punny when that happens.

2:34 PM
@JourneymanGeek I've dumped my stuff in kitchen cabinets... Mom is going to miss some stuff when I move out ;)

@TimPost everypony alicorn?

@Tinkeringbell I think I will literally have too much stuff appear in my kitchen when I move out.
I already have my own motar and pestle...

@JourneymanGeek Oh, that won't be a problem for me I guess ;)

@Tinkeringbell ya.

I think I need a lot of shopping when I move out. Whatever stuff I have is from when I was studying... So I at least need another load of tupperware.

@JourneymanGeek Clearances never help when you're trying not to buy more stuff :P

But it's a pain to move out when single in SG
Hence post moving out
Should be contacting someone soon about matchmaking. She mentioned Singapore specifically in her profile soooo

"I absolutely don't want to live in Singapore"

2:41 PM
Anyway I need/can yell at the parentals soon
@Tinkeringbell I got that a lot

@JourneymanGeek :P It's a specific mention of Singapore too :P

It's a little disheartening paired with the sheer ok lack of support
Lol. That's a I won't even bother
This one seems to actually list that as a place she would move to

sharp, pointy objects + balpha made Unicornify => say goodbye to your avatars :P

@JourneymanGeek Perhaps threaten that if your parents don't hurry up, the internet will do the matchmaking for them? :P

:p
Naw. Just start telling my grandma they are dragging their feet

2:48 PM
Heh :P Grandma's are a good choice, it sounds like.

It would make my mom's life a living hell :p

Sometimes you have to 'go speak with the manager' ;)
But I understand the hesitation all too well right now ;)

Or go on strike
My mom volunteered herself for recording religious songs.
If they don't have time for me...

Oooh, you're sounding entitled now ;) :P Moms need time for themselves too, they can't be expected to have their whole world revolve around you :P And as long as you're living with them, it means they have more free time to do that sort of stuff :P

@Tinkeringbell it's at least 10 hours of recording
I'm not going spend my time on it
She can do whatever she wants
So she can do it. Just without my help
(since I usually handle the recording gear)
:p
It's hardly entitlement on my side

Can a mod please migrate this to MSO?
