12:54 AM
@JourneymanGeek Out of curiosity, why give a binding "Leave Open" review to this task? From the answers, it seemed like a duplicate. (I was the one who voted, and I noticed your review because I monitor review tasks.)

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog I disagreed it was a dupe
I think that much ought to be obvious

@JourneymanGeek Yes, the not-so-obvious question was, "why do you think it's not a duplicate?".

because I don't.
the whole point of a review queue is for people to review things and make a decision.
I made a decision, and really feel that getting second guessed about these decisions is tiring.
I'll happily explain myself to a reasonable extent, but that extent is not spending half an hour explaining what's at most a 30 second decision.

1:54 AM
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog that's what it'd look like to the user themselves, if they were banned

Rob
What's the 'Declined in the last 7 days' indicate? That they had one flag declined in the last 7 days? It kinda looks like it says all those flags below it were the ones declined in the last 7 days.

@Rob Plausible but unlikely? ;p

2:11 AM
@Rob that's an excellent observation. It's a filter that lists all flags which were declined during the past 7 days - useful if you're banned.

@Shog9 Got a filter icon that you can stick in front of it? That'd do the job

ugh

stick an aria-label on it for bonus points

Rob
Ah, I thought it was a header or an already-selected filter.. in which case the posts below it should already be filtered

Rob
2:16 AM
But I like the new look - looks very clean

@Rob that a bit more obvious?
That's what it'd look like with a different filter selected.

Rob
Yep, much clearer

Does it use stacks?
I don't really know how Stacks works but it seems like they have guidelines for design elements that we're moving stuff to.

Looks like it

@Catija isn't the idea to move all the things into Stacks? ;p

2:31 AM
@Catija yeah, I'm kinda mimicking the design of stackoverflow.com/legal

Ah, nice.
Ugh... the arrows on that page don't expand... they're just decorative bullets.

(grumble grumble badux angry tweet etc)

3:23 AM
@Catija I'm liking Stacks and I don't even work there :P

3:38 AM
No stacks:
With stacks:
...that was an unfortunate typo. I think it's time for bed...

@Shog9 You go to bed so early these days? I thought you were an hour behind us...

looks better with slacks stacks

3:55 AM
It's dark
and cold

4:07 AM
@Shog9 Same here; your home not have an adequate furnace?

of course it does
and adequate lighting

not the same as lovely thermonuclear fire in the sky I suppose

but I sit, cold, in the dark... In solidarity with the shrubs that weather the cold wind outside
2
this is the time of year for contemplation, depression, and futile slumber

@JourneymanGeek Let me guess...Singapore lies close enough to the Equator so seasons aren't much of an issue there?

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog pretty much

Rob
4:10 AM
Gah, I miss the snow. Tomorrow's gonna be 37 (99F). Yesterday it was 20ish (68F)

@Rob San Diego was that hot last summer
@JourneymanGeek Out of curiosity, were you around during the shooting of Krrish?

Rob
I don't particularly mind it being that hot. It's just that going from cold to stupidly hot every other day is annoying. It's like living in one of those Finnish saunas in the snow.

of what?
so I guess no

@JourneymanGeek A 2006 Hindi film that was shot on location in Singapore.

@Rob its consistantly stupidly hot here

Rob
4:15 AM
I'd love that. Stupidly hot or stupidly cold both suit me.. As long as it's consistent

San Diego is moderately inconsistent, and getting less consistent each year
Austin is wildly inconsistent. The weather is just unpredictable, with cold, rainy days mixed in with hot days.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog possibly not.

4:31 AM
ok, last idle question of the night...
Option #A (current)
or...
Option #B

Option A is clearer to what it does
I wouldn't be averse to having it up top thought

Rob
I kinda feel like having the number at the start makes it look like a heading, not a filter. What about "All post and comment flags (480)" and "Flags declined in the last 7 days (8)"
Er, heading's not the right word. It makes it look like just information, not really a filter
That said though, sometimes those kind of things are obvious when you're able to click around and play with it, rather than just a screenshot

Does this mean it's possible to select multiple filters?

all of the indented lines are combo-filters - type + status
that's the extent to which you can combine them though
well... You can combine "declined last 7 days" with any of the rest if you compose the URL manually, but there's no UI
(nor is it particularly useful)

then I guess Option #A is clearer
with either "Clear" or perhaps "Reset filters"

4:44 AM
@Rob I'm not sure about the parentheticals but I do think that keeping the [heading] ________ [quantity] the same for the main headings and sub-headings makes sense.

Rob
Oh, yep. Putting the quantity right aligned would look nicer

Get some rep, will you ....
@Magisch here you go: i.stack.imgur.com/197UQ.png

Free spam accounts to delete: first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth

Holland & Holland. Not to be confused with Bolland & Bolland

@JourneymanGeek I would appreciate it if you could remove at least number#8 in the list above, since not only it is spam but also tied to offensive stuff.

@Derpy I am currently on walkies
Also I think I can help nuke at least 2 of 4 accounts and get a mod for a third
That's to say please wait so I can doom it more completely

9:07 AM
@JourneymanGeek No problem, I was just checking the new users list and noticed those spammers, no need to hurry.
Anyway, if you want I can also continue to post here other spam accounts links in the future so that you or @Tinkeringbell can have some fun deleting them.

That's alright. Unless you hit a gusher. There's several thousand profiles on SU that need nuking :p

@JourneymanGeek don't worry, I don't plan a witch hunt. I just browse the new users tab from time to time

@rene what is harsh? The request? Comments? Downvotes?

@ShadowWizard that they didn't find any friends and gave up?

@rene who said he/she gave up?
The fact they're trying with SO means they didn't give up. :)

9:19 AM
@ShadowWizard I did? That is what I assumed the deletion without response means?
Maybe I'm over sensitive for this social stuff

@rene well.... it's not giving up, it's facing the harsh reality of MSO.

Random person: "I'm lonely and want to make friends, perhaps here on stackoverflow?"

Stack Overflow Meta: "NO *downvotes*"

(aka understanding such requests will never be done)

So it is harsh afterall

@rene no... that's how meta works.

9:21 AM
:,(

My best friends are on Meta ...
Might not be mutual ...

Make rep not friends?

some of my friends are here in chat
I'd like to think so, anyways

@Magisch I kinda think one of the strengths of SE is we have a community in spite of a design that isn't social

@Derpy Make it after work hours, or a Fridays thing :P

9:27 AM
@Tinkeringbell Spammy users burination Friday? Could become a weekly event.

BURN IT ALL

Got most.

Unrelatedly, this is not a sunset:

One I'm not sure. I think 2 more need extra cooking time

@rene IRL friends?

9:31 AM
@ShadowWizard no

@Mithrandir true. Why would one think it's a sunset? :)
Nice pic, anyway. :D
No plastic bags!! ;)
@rene so...

@ShadowWizard ... what?

I'm pretty sure OP meant making real life friends, not online virtual friends. :)
@rene this ^

@Mithrandir is the forest well raked? 😁

@ShadowWizard you mean: meeting in a restaurant and then wonder after 5 minutes how to get out of there?

9:35 AM
@ShadowWizard I wonder, is the distinction so useful anymore?

9:50 AM
@rene nah, that's a date. ;)
(well, that's also possible... but not what OP meant...)
@rene are you in trolling mode? lol
@Magisch umm... not sure what you mean by "useful" but there's huge gap between those two, yes.
One can't have a beer with a virtual friend.

@ShadowWizard kind of ... do you notice?

@ShadowWizard I've put a few pictures of sunsets here before. So this time, no plastic bags and no sunsets :P

@rene hardly. You're too blurry today.
;)

10:20 AM
@ShadowWizard fair point

@ShadowWizard well, there's a Japanese online infamous celebrity making an offline event (basically: meet and drink).... and no one came.

10:46 AM
@andmyself well... infamous? So why would anyone come?
Also... "infamous celeb" is a conflict...
Celeb is defined as someone who is famous. lol

We also have infamous non-celebs
and famous non-celebs

Everyone here are infamous non-celebs. :D
@Bart is surely a famous non-celeb. :P
Ask in the street "Who is Bart?" and most people would know. ;)
@AdamLear hey, you're behind the login system of SE, right? I assume one account can't have two email/password logins, is this correct? If you got a moment, please take a look on this. Thanks! :)

11:11 AM
@ShadowWizard I would expect you can have many.

1 hour later…

A: Option to add a Stack Exchange Login to Existing Account has gone AWOL

Adam LearThis is currently by design because doing it properly would require a fair bit of work. The main problem is that you can't be logged into two StackId accounts at the same time, but we don't do a good job of showing you which one you're using while you're logged in. This wasn't my decision, so I...

So looks like one still can't add two SE logins, even though it's not OpenID anymore.

1:10 PM
@Shog9 Once upon a time, a user on Travel deleted and then recreated their account, and I've seen their old account's posts all re-attributed to the new account. Is this done on request, or was that a very special case? The old deleted user there had ID 3470.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog why do you care about this? Did the user do anything wrong?

@ShadowWizard Just an oddity I noticed. I remembered that one of their particular answers was previously attributed to a deleted user3470.

Appears to be done on request of that user then, yeah.

Sometimes people will help if you ask nicely :)

1:25 PM
Huh. Weird... facebook.com/Marcelbarandkitchen (and see that user's Area51 profile.)

i wonder, in javascript, assuming you have a variable that can only be true or false
is if (variable) better or if (variable === true)? I'm leaning towards the former but my colleagues say the former is bad form

@Magisch no such thing.
In JS, variable can be anything. That's its most powerful feature, and its biggest downside.
You can assign x to be true, then 1, then 100000 then "hello", without any error.
@Magisch depends... the first option will be true if the variable is anything but false/null e.g. when the variable is "hello" it will be true. The second option will be true only when the variable is only the explicit value of true, and anything else will return false.
So it really depends on the other code you have and the way it works.
If the code is very strict, former option is bad because it's not strict at all.

1:44 PM
@ShadowWizard true = false is also possible

@Mgetz yeah there are endless weird things one can do with JS.... that's why so many love it, and so many hate it.

@ShadowWizard no need for long explanation. Just use this image.

Yahoo! press....
now Oath press. And probably half the book is flagged,

@JourneymanGeek 🥁

@JourneymanGeek waiting for Oath to buy DeviantArt.

1:56 PM
@Derpy that would be "fun"

@Derpy good one. ;)
@JourneymanGeek ?

@ShadowWizard a reference to what's been going on with tumblr
they suddenly decided they don't want anything remotely adult and basically want all of it gone by the 15th...

@JourneymanGeek oh, I discussed it a bit with @Mgetz yesterday. How is it related to Yahoo or OAuth?

and let loose a bunch of malfunctioning censorbots that flagged everything, including the announcement posts
@ShadowWizard Oath(well verizon) bought Yahoo who bought Tumblr

@JourneymanGeek Would love to see what would happen with the Ads Anarchy that site has been thru for years. I stopped browsing DA because of the constant malwertising

1:58 PM
@ShadowWizard Yahoo bought tumblr, Verizon bought Yahoo and AOL, and merged them into "Oath"

@JourneymanGeek oh
Looked like you mean OAuth... lol
Never heard of that "Oath". So bunch of failing big companies merged into one huge company to avoid being closed? Makes sense, in a way.

@ShadowWizard Its a bit like EA...
basically a big crappy company bought a bunch of formerly less crappy companies then had no idea so they spun them off....
Oath Inc. (stylized as Oath:) is a subsidiary of Verizon Communications that serves as the umbrella company of its digital content subdivisions, including AOL and Yahoo!. Verizon acquired AOL on June 23, 2015 and Yahoo!'s operating business on June 13, 2017. Within Oath, AOL and Yahoo! maintain their respective brands.Tim Armstrong, Oath's former CEO, said the new company name was chosen to convey Oath's commitment to the digital media business. Oath will become Verizon Media Group on January 1, 2019. == Operations == Oath Inc. is a subsidiary of Verizon Communications. The company maintains dual...
wait, they changed names again

@JourneymanGeek Yahoo was always crappy, I was sure they were just shut down to be honest. Never bothered to check. :)

this is like, worse than explaining who my employer is

@JourneymanGeek who is your employer?
;)

2:03 PM
@ShadowWizard DXC

XKCD?!

(Who you might ask?)

Basically part of HPE (which was part of HP...) merged with CSC

KTS JNS YSZ
lol
(don't try... just random)

2:04 PM
and CSC actually broke up into... I don't even know how many companies

@JourneymanGeek so it's not DXC Technology located at 1 Depot Close, #03-01, Singapore?

@ShadowWizard >_>
totally is lol

I don't work there though

2:05 PM
I work at one of their clients
but the address is actually a HPE facility

activating satellite view
focusing on target
6 Tuas Link 1? @Journeyman

Nope
That's still HPE I think

1 Depot Cl?

2:10 PM
lol I think I'll refrain from commenting further ;p

:)
So back to what sparked all this.... what book is flagged? @Journeyman

@ShadowWizard the joke is since the smaller book is yahoo press - half of it is flagged cause of how aweful the tumblr censorbots are.

Better safe than sorry... so they lose few fingers but get to keep other things. Probably. :D

I wouldn't be surprised if a little malicious compliance was involved

@JourneymanGeek Heh, my dad's old office building had an HP building right next to it; it was massively downsized after the HPE spinoff
(but part of it still remains theirs)

2:21 PM
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog they had a bigger building before for HP and HPe
its getting redeveloped
actually two
somewhere around where PSA building and the old NOL building is

@Sonic you originally from Singapore? Thought India...

@ShadowWizard No, San Diego...that's where the building I mentioned is.

IDK why he mentioned it lol.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog oh, yeah... lots of times you mention relatives arriving from India to visit. :)

@ShadowWizard It can, but adding them has always been dodgy. We even had it disabled for a while - not sure if my memory's faulty, the view regressed, or the actual credential adding broke there

2:33 PM
@ShadowWizard Yeah, true. But I'm not from India

I'll take a look. Although a merge, as suggested in the comments, will sort his account out in the meantime.
Well, probably. Assuming it actually created a separate one and not some weird abomination.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog yup. Got that. Born in USA then? ;)

@ShadowWizard Yes

@AdamLear thanks
But shouldn't it be more simple now, that SE has plain email/password login and not OpenID?

@ShadowWizard unless of course, the system uses the email like/as a primary key or unique identifier

2:41 PM
@JourneymanGeek combined with provider, yeah.

@Magisch If it can only be true or false, I'd lean towards the former. If there's any chance it might not be (including if it might be null or undefined), then use the explicit version.

are the cv-pls requests really necessary?
that first one got closed in 18 minutes... feels like that woulda got closed regardless of being posted in chat, so having it here doesn't really do much

@ShadowWizard Welll yes and no. StackId itself is still technically an OpenID, we just moved the provider host to the internal network. I'm not sure if there's still a plan to transition to regular email/password creds or not.

and the dev-pls will get roomba'd soon enough... does that need expediting?

modhammered naturally
@AnneDaunted just to say - in spite of complaints, curating and cleaning up tags is useful work and very much appreciated, and I've spent many lunch breaks doing that sorta thing myself.

@ArtOfCode I post only del-plz for closed off topic questions with -8 or lower score, as they're no longer on homepage hence easy to miss. But I don't mind the cv-pls requests, it's part of Tavern.
@AdamLear I see.

3:10 PM
@ArtOfCode People are still getting used to having us mods ;)

Yeah this cut around 90% of the cv-pls and plz-delete requests here. :D

@ArtOfCode what is the problem with not expediting? Are you planning on salvaging those off-topic posts? Do you think there is a pearl we miss?

Think he means it's like editing off topic questions: waste of our time.
(as they'll be removed automagically anyway after a week)

@ArtOfCode we've been doing that for... ages, since we needed a few folks to do it, and we do try to get OT stuff gone ASAP

@JourneymanGeek yup

3:14 PM
@ShadowWizard well at that time everyone did, pre review queues especially

Funny.. first request ever for cv-pls failed. lol
@jadarnel27 morning!
;)

@ShadowWizard Well, if that is the case then I would appreciate if that intent was made clear upfront. Now I get the feeling we're being accused of something by passerby's that we only hear from again in 6 to 8 weeks while we are still left with the crap. I seriously changed my voting habit due to that post.

@rene I'd hardly consider Monica passersby

@JourneymanGeek it wasn't Monica
It's Nicol Bolas

ah
Hm, that surprises me a little

3:18 PM
what @ShadowWizard says

@rene I also changed it, but started before that post.

But now it seems @ArtOfCode makes the same remark so something is up.

Wrong. It's very rare for off topic question to survive more than few hours. To be honest I don't downvote off topic question if it's not really bad by itself and already has the required -3 for deletion, but I do not expect others to follow. — Shadow Wizard Oct 28 at 16:07

I've been doing mostly the same
@rene I think Art's problem is with the close requests rather than the closes

@rene not really. Art only rants a bit about the cv-pls and del-plz we post here, not about downvotes we cast.
Which is valid rant for those not really into this.

3:19 PM
they go hand in hand no?

Same as if people will post unicorn pics every day, and some will not be happy with it. ;)

@rene in theory they can be closed through the review queues and mopped up later

yes, in theory and in reality I'm still one of the highest close vote reviewers

@rene nope. One is about downvote culture in MSE itself, one is about room culture here in Tavern. :)
Maybe cousins, not much more.
@rene I very rarely review on MSE. :/
I catch most in the homepage itself.

I know, I've surpassed you in that league

3:23 PM
@JourneymanGeek Thanks for your kind words! I try to limit myself to not bump too many posts.

Burninating a tag with hundreds of questions is noble. tag had over 500, no? Now it got only 53. Kudos!
Plus, it requires careful editing since it usually better be replaced with other tag, and many times there are more things to fix in the questions.

Yes, and sometimes it's not so easy to find out which tag(s) to replace it with.

@ShadowWizard I once did several thousand a few at a time over months
So I can relate

@Tinkeringbell You are gonna love Monday calendar item. Or hate it. Or both.

Here are some interesting tags: used 2 times, used 2 times and used 4 times. At least and look pretty meta to me, while is pretty unspecific.

3:35 PM
@JourneymanGeek o_O.. wow. :)
@AnneDaunted we can safely remove them all, no need to replace with other tags.

@ShadowWizard Done.
@AnneDaunted All burned.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog Thanks!

@JourneymanGeek I uncovered another tag issue while performing the above burn; can you please implement it?

@Derpy I'll wait ;)
I'm finally frreeeee! :P

@Tinkeringbell like a bird? ;)

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog doesn't merge cause the tag being merged into the other to be blacklisted? Maybe synonym is better.

@ShadowWizard No, it can be recreated later.
But synonymize and merge are often done together.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog so even worse... with synonym it doesn't matter what one use.

@ShadowWizard There's an answer that suggests a canonical tag. I agree with it.

Just get rid of all tags. No more tag problems.
If you need more ideas, I'll be here.

3:50 PM
@Bart sure! How to get world peace and end all wars?

Exterminate all humans. Done.

Brilliant. voting for @Bart to be World President

@ShadowWizard it is all in the intro to the hitchhiker guide

Glad I'm not human ..

@Derpy you mean that woman who is about to make a phone call?
(using memory only, so might be off)

3:55 PM
@ShadowWizard yep

But the goal of Earth (which she achieved) wasn't to have world peace. It was to find the answer to Everything. No?

@ShadowWizard Duh.

@ShadowWizard ^ how many points do you count?

@Derpy stars? 7
Why?

@ShadowWizard points, not stars. Each star has 6 points / tips.

4:01 PM
@Derpy hehe.
MLP and Hitchhiker guide intertwined? ;)
May 5 '16 at 12:39, by Derpy
Considering that Twilight Sparkle cutie mark has exactly 42 points, the girl was Lauren Faust.
Poor @Dro is always lost when those things arise. :D

> And then, one Thursday, nearly two thousand years after one man had been nailed to a tree for saying
how great it would be to be nice to people for a change, one girl sitting on her own in a small cafe in
Rickmansworth suddenly realized what it was that had been going wrong all this time, and she finally knew
**how the world could be made a good and happy place**. This time it was right, it would work, and no one
would have to get nailed to anything.

No markup in multi line messages. :/
@Derpy hehe, right. Forgot the exact wording. :)

should not be multiline.. oh well...

@Derpy having it in one line would make it less readable.
@Derpy you read all Douglas Adams books? Or only the HG series books?

Mostly HG
anyway, still about that cutiemark.
in Shadow's Den, Mar 5 '15 at 15:23, by SPArchaeologist
@ShadowWizard then you have Twily going to a race with her number begin 42, Dashie asking her if she read a book called "The Egghead guide to running" and her cutie mark have begin drawn to have 42 vertex.

4:13 PM
hmm.... how would you classify this?
The Salmon of Doubt: Hitchhiking the Galaxy One Last Time is a posthumous collection of previously published and unpublished material by Douglas Adams. It consists largely of essays about technology and life experiences, but its major selling point is the inclusion of the incomplete novel on which Adams was working at the time of his death, The Salmon of Doubt (from which the collection gets its title, a reference to the Irish myth of the Salmon of Knowledge). English editions of the book were published in the United States and UK in May 2002, exactly one year after the author's death. ==...
@Derpy ^
@Derpy heh. Well, no doubt the author is affected by HG. :)

@ShadowWizard probably in the same folder as "And Another Thing..."

@Derpy which is under "To Read" or "Not Worth Reading" category? :)

@ShadowWizard can be worth, just consider that the first one can be classified as unfinished, the second one as "based on"
so, may cause some delusion if you go in with to high expectations.

Yeah, those are risky, since they're not really by the author you know and like.
e.g. in Dune saga, the original author's son wrote whole book "based on" unfinished materials he found in his father's attic. Or something like that.
I read it without high expectations, and liked it.

Oh, on an unrelated notice, if anyone here likes Roald Dah works, I suggest to have a look at my calendar tomorrow (and vote if you liked the joke)

4:36 PM
This was fun. ... we need better definitions of fun then ...

I wonder if Shog9 will notice he is part of the joke :P
Oh well, we will see tomorrow.
Must also come up with something for balpha. Tim already has his day.
And maybe JNat too?

@Derpy You assume Shog read each and every answer to the swag contest... or yours in particular. This might not be true...

Shog doesn't read the answers. He just absorbs them.

You'll be amazed ...

@rene @Derpy I wonder, has winter already arrived at your place? Today was the first day of "real" winter here. :)

4:55 PM
@ShadowWizard No, I'll let you know when DWDD goes into Elfstedentocht fever ...
