Woah this dude is getting rude, anyone agree? meta.stackexchange.com/questions/317855/…
I honestly don't know why I am posting it here
The administrators deleted it, too late now

@Devealte Downvotes often offend people who don't know much about how the system works.

I agree, he is a new user also

New users often think of asking a question in front of a public audience, only to have booes and rotten tomatoes thrown at them. SE has consistently refused to implement features that can easily correct this misconception.

Yeah

1:04 AM
what a useless shop it doesn't sell cars

So, probably not a "good" morning?

Sometimes having a breakfast while reading MSO is not a good idea...

@Somewhat You wouldn't be in trouble for copyright violation by publishing details. Copyright applies to unauthorized reproductions of IP (e.g. a copy of the language's interpreter, or a standards document), not revelation of trade secrets (which would be a violation of contract, e.g. NDA, not an infringement of copyright).

Nah, I wouldn't really care... but 1 question on SO recently got DMCA'd and spawned 2 meta posts...

Link to post?

@Somewhat You have an archive or screenshot of the original post?

4:04 AM
@forest sorry, no, I'm just a mere mortal on SO...

Ah. Well anyone with 10k rep to do that for me would be nice.

asking people to do your work for you is rude — ɪʙᴜɢ 9 mins ago
@ɪʙᴜɢ this comment seems a little snarky

I don't see how that's snarky. It's a truth, and it's stated politely.

4:23 AM
alternative phrasing: "SO (and MSE) is not a code-writing service"

4:41 AM
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog I always see people posting this on SO and I often post it too, have got no negative responses so far (except from OP)

5:38 AM
@JourneymanGeek Ever hear my speedtest.py story?
My ISP is a shady operation. We were streaming the Super Bowl, and it kept buffering. So I ran a speed test, and noticed the buffering stopped.
Pretty sure the little buggers were somehow increasing bandwidth when a speedtest is run.
So I did the only sane thing, and ran that command in a while 1 loop. Worked great, watched Super Bowl with no issues.
A month later, they're irritated with me for burning through 3TB in a month.

QoS is a thing... not a fun thing, but a perfectly legal thing
@forest could also be copyright violation, depending on the nature of the trade secret you're talking about

6:21 AM
@Undo mine offers gigabit speeds locally. Overseas sites can be up to 200mbps unless ... Idk :p
They're a bit dodgy
@ArtOfCode heh, QOS is on my list of things to set up
After ipv6, which is going to be all sorts of fun

7:09 AM
bore

dom

bom
@Undo no surprise. Even huge car companies cheat in pollution tests this way, so why not ISP? I'm 100% sure most ISP do it, so they can tell "Hey, see for yourself, your speed is [some ridiculous false number here]!" and charge double.
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog indeed, it's exactly the kind of comments the Welcome Wagon is meant to nuke. /cc @ɪʙᴜɢ (honest disclosure: I used to post such comments too in the past.)
@forest nope. That's not polite.

KABOOOM!

7:24 AM
NICELY DONE!

Morning

Morning!

MORNING!

morning?

@rene yeah, morning. Or did you migrate to another timezones recently?

7:32 AM
well, I stated early today so my head is ready for lunch ....

lunch break, fast

@rene what's your statement?

Heh. I still need to muster up the appetite for breakfast :/ must've been a really early start then

GOOD MORNING!

@ShadowWizard Go Cardinals!

7:34 AM
hm

@Tinkeringbell put some chocolate in the breakfast and appetite will magically appear. :P

@ShadowWizard Nope. Bread with chocolate sprinkles. Still no appetite ;)

Go Go Power Rangers?

hands @Tinkeringbell a lengendary geek treat especial!

Guys breakfast can easily wait another hour ;)

7:36 AM
@Tinkeringbell I love bread with chocolate sprinkles!

Seeded batch loaf, nutella on one side, good plain peanut butter on the other, and cold semi sweet chocolate chips.

But only with a hint of butter

@TravisJ How would you eat it without? Sprinkles everywhere!

Its probably the greatest thing I have ever eaten involving bread (and I can't get the right sort of bread here :( )

I'm at my final destination. brb.

7:37 AM
that doesn't look good...

@Tinkeringbell With peanut butter?

@Somewhat it kinda balances ._.

@TravisJ Ahh. That's great too! Or with strawberries :)

the nutella and peanut butter are perfect foils
turning it from cloyingly sweet to something much more than the sum of its parts.

@JourneymanGeek oh, I'm referring to rene's Final Destination though...

7:38 AM
oh
I was going to say that too.

(pictures robin and batman themed nutella and peanut butter jars)

@Somewhat It probably means he's getting coffee :P

@rene those Cardinals?
@Tinkeringbell must be a fan! ^

Look, a red parrot!

lol

7:39 AM
@Tinkeringbell so you're borked! :P

:D LOL
Now the guy in the seat across me thinks I must be crazy for smiling at my phone!

You are totally the first person evar to smile at their phone

I have to switch to a bus soon, BRB too!

My own daughter is borked, she.... she..... she... doesn't... like... umm... chocolate. o_o O_o O_O

don't worry... I'm now also imagining a bat and a robin flying together...

7:41 AM
@ShadowWizard does she at least like hot food?

hot choco? yummy~

Doesn't like chocolate? Will probably grow out of that

@JourneymanGeek yup. But not chocolate... cold or hot. :/
@TravisJ not sure... hope not! :D

give her white chocolate, but don't tell it's a choco

@Somewhat hehe, she sometimes eat white chocolate but it's rare.

7:44 AM
Chocolate isn't such a bad thing to like :D I mean, mostly its the dairy that has issues with healthynessishness. 90%+ cocoa chocolate is fairly healthy

@ShadowWizard Oh no! Bad kid.

Heh, this guy spends like 5 moves to try to save his Queen in chess but it slowly dawns on him that it's lost lichess.org/DplRFfzxaa76

I'll add 'what if they don't like chocolate' to the 'why I never want a kid' list ;)

Is there an inverse list?
1. Must like chocolate ✔
(with one of those really sweeping checkmarks where you just get all attitude with it)

That's the 'what a potential partner should have' checklist ;)

7:49 AM
hah, lists of lists

Nothing wrong with that!

Wow, so there are lists of lists!
Was mostly kidding :D

and lists of lists of lists
ITS LISTS ALL THE LISTS DOWN!

@ShadowWizard yes

This is a list of articles that are lists of list articles on the English Wikipedia. In other words, each of the articles linked here is an index to multiple lists on a topic. Some of the linked articles are themselves lists of lists of lists. This article is also a list of lists. == General reference == Lists of academic journals Lists of important publications in science Lists of unsolved problems == Culture and the arts == === Literature === Lists of books Lists of 100 best books Lists of banned books Lists of The New York Times Fiction Best Sellers Lists of The New York Times Non-...

Wistfully listing all the lists of lists enlisted with an idealist's checklist.

@TravisJ dentists LOVE chocolate. :D

voted to close Wikipedia as Too Broad

@ShadowWizard My uncle is a dentist. He is a fan of chocolate.

@TravisJ sure he is! It makes him rich. ;)

Dentists love it when you brush three times a day, floss somewhere in there, and use mouthwash.
It is kind of like diet and exercise. If you burn 2000 calories per day working out, you can eat whatever you want without gaining fat.

8:01 AM
Dunno if I may ask this here. I flagged "low quality" when I probably should have custom-flagged (obviously obvious case of blatant plagiarism from another answer in the same question). This resulted in a disputed flag. What do?

Move on from the disputed flag, and just flag the post itself with an explanation of what happened and your previous flag.

We need a Welcome Wagon in our "senate". navva.org/israel/israel/… o_O /cc @Mithrandir
Well, technically speaking, someone without legs is indeed "half man"... but.. guess it's kind of unwelcome/rude/abusive/disgusting to say it in his face.

@TravisJ flag the question? the questioner did nothing wrong...

then he gets mechanical legs

I don't think you can flag the answer again. If you can, do that. But since I do not think you can, flag the question with a custom flag and explain what happened. The moderator marking your flag helpful wont damage the question. It happens a lot.

8:03 AM
and then HE WILL RUE THE DAY. RUE I TELL YOU

So long as there is actual evidence of plagiarism and whatnot.

I assume the VLQ flag was disputed by the reviewer, not mod. You can always flag a post (whether Q or A) with mod flag

i can't flag the answer again. i am just worried if it would have any impact on the innocent questioner.

@Amadan It will not.

huh? that's weird...

8:04 AM
cool thanks all!

@Somewhat what weird?

:)

@ShadowWizard cannot mod-flag the post?

@JourneymanGeek hehe, and becomes a cyborg? :D

@Somewhat Can't mod flag the answer after already VLQ flagging answer.

8:05 AM
@Somewhat after already flagging? Pretty sure we can't.

@ShadowWizard or more machine than man
@ShadowWizard he does look a bit ....
never mind, be nice and all that ;)

@TravisJ hard to believe, if everyone will do it, dentists will become unemployed and homeless. ;D
@JourneymanGeek who look how? Don't be shy, I won't flag. :P

Still have to have someone professionally clean your teeth, or help with a chipped tooth, or sometimes weird things happen, injuries, etc, hold on..... let me make a list
;)

@ShadowWizard yanno how some people try to look ... kinda cool and fail and roll over the integer and look like...
yaaaa

Master List of All Lists that are Master Lists
or in short MLALML

8:07 AM
woah, CoC man, CoC.
I don't think you can MLALML here

Hey stop waving that CoC in front of me!

cuz I gotta golden ticket
(also a chocolate reference)

I guess my assumption that "you can always mod flag a post if there's no pending flag on that post" just shattered...

@JourneymanGeek think I lost you... well, that Hazan guy is just the type of bully that hassle smaller kids in school, and offend anyone he can just for laugh. And since he's in our senate it means lots of people like such behavior.

He looks a bit... douchy ;p

8:10 AM
throwing Israel into a big Welcome Wagon, sealing it, and throwing into the ocean
:D

get flagged then suspended for ever. :(

@Somewhat indeed

Wow. I leave y'all alone for what, 15 minutes? And it's back to bashing the CoC :P

@JourneymanGeek umm, I want to test this cannot-mod-flag-after-declined-VLQ-flag on Super User...

@Tinkeringbell I wasn't bashing the COC

8:13 AM
@JourneymanGeek Some people were! :P

Who you calling some people? Besides, I wasn't the one invoking MLALML

Aren't you a people?

You is a people...
(anyway, I just flagged this on SU as NAA and waiting to be declined gracefully)

@Somewhat Hey! I know I'm a bit overweight... but that's too much :P

I am people.

8:16 AM
And the winner of the Most Bizarre Story of the Year is... news18.com/news/world/… (sad story, but totally bizzare)

and somehow I'm missing Jason's "your [insert noun]" jokes...

@Somewhat I would decline your NAA flag. It is a low quality answer, but it does at least somewhat approach the topical nature of the question.

@Somewhat [DECLINED]
Might be worth pinging me if you actually need my attention lol

@Somewhat you mean ur mom missing those jokes! :P

@ShadowWizard Reminds me of this lady that died trying to hold her wee for a wii in what was supposed to be a simple summer contest.

8:19 AM
whaaaaaatt

Turns out that water can be poisonous at certain levels.

"hold wee for wii"... that's.... eh... out of words

Water intoxication is no joke.
.... dang, I hadn't even read the article

8:20 AM
@TravisJ that's true, but not the case of that poor woman. Pee contains things the body must remove, if it's not removed, well, that's fatal.
I did hear stories about mentally ill people dying from drinking like 2L water at once.

@ShadowWizard also too much water can leach salt

@JourneymanGeek yeah, people with autism sometimes calm down by drinking... and if nobody is there to control it and stop them, they just drink themselves to death.

actually excessively pure water is bad for you
@ShadowWizard autism is a hell of a thing :/

Sometimes I drink to calm down

@JourneymanGeek yup.
@TravisJ but you have self control...

8:22 AM
I find a good rosé or scotch does the trick

I've had to deal with anxiety, it was pretty bad but at least, well...

Eventually, even without self control the scotch will just lend a hand and make sure you get some rest.

@JourneymanGeek you mean as in chronic? Sounds bad... how you got out of it?

@ShadowWizard one day at a time ;p

@TravisJ depends. If you're on the road while in this mode, the rest might be permanent. ;)

8:24 AM
got help and just eventually slowly powered through it.

@ShadowWizard Agree. The road is a terrible place for that.

@JourneymanGeek good.. help from family, or professional help?

well the Tavern is a bit morbid this morning

Professional

@Mithrandir yeah, blame Mr. Hazan!
He started it all. :P

8:24 AM
asian families are a bit shit at dealing with even mild mental bugs ;p

You missed the part about batman and peanut butter

Its actually pretty much a "we don't talk about it" thing

@JourneymanGeek good! :):

Actually partially stack got me out of part of it. ;p

@JourneymanGeek whoa... that's awesome!

8:26 AM
Its hard to feel worthless when you're going "OH I KNOW THIS I CAN SOLVE THIS YAY!"

I don't understand anxiety. It just seems like you can focus on more positive outcomes in situations where you start to worry. Clearly it doesn't work like that though I guess.

@TravisJ sometimes you can swim in calm seas

@JourneymanGeek Or when handling mod flags and suspending people! :D

sometimes the waves are much too much
@ShadowWizard I wouldn't have made a good mod in that state

oh
It was before your modship era?

8:27 AM
a good mod needs a shitton of self confidence. Or at least pretended to have it ;)
yaaaa
Some personal drama didn't help
and that got sorted.

I had professional help in childhood, for several years, after my father passed away when I was 8.

actually I'd have been a terrible mod here before the anxiety/depression issues too XD

I don't remember much from the sessions, only that we played card games. lol

I was a grumpy fella. Think how I'd be if my buttons were stuck XD

@JourneymanGeek hehe... that's really bad! :D

8:29 AM
and 20x as snarky

8:46 AM
dang, MSE is under NAA attack. Probably spammers getting ready or checking the site, I started to flag those trolling NAA as spam.

where?

eh throw em here. We can delvote

NAA wave one, two, three. @rene @JourneymanGeek @Glorfindel
@Derpy ^
One user doing it might be honest mistake. Two users can't. It's on purpose.
So either pure trolling to waste our time, or like I originally thought, spammers.
@Journeyman does this one have deleted spam posts on SU?

hmm...

8:58 AM
I will keep an eye on it tho

Maybe two eyes since I have one to spare ;p

While we're at it, two more delete votes needed for meta.stackexchange.com/q/317876/295232

@Glorfindel kaboom

9:18 AM
@ShadowWizard seems there are a lot of new "spam profile accounts" too. Judging by the pictures alone, I can see at least 8 of them

@Derpy on MSE?
You mean like this one?
plucking @Tinker's feathers due to her not revealing her secret identity ;)

@ShadowWizard more like this
BTW, I am starting to realize that it is a very good thing that avatars on the network are resized to fit a square instead of cropped

@Derpy oh. I guess that like ordinary users, the spammers start only on SO, then notice the "FEATURED ON META" in sidebar and follow it to reach MSE as well.

> Member for 2 years, 3 months
o_O
(on SO)

9:27 AM
Lost?

Waiting for some member of the Inquisition council to notice this
(was on HNQ list)

How can I flag an answer older than a week as VLQ? According to this I can't

@WhatsThePoint I'd guess you don't
IN THEORY you could custom flag, but a downvote seems like the preferred option

Seems to be poor design not allowing VLQ flags for posts older than 7 days

9:43 AM
@Derpy heh, Pending close vote as "too broad"

@ShadowWizard all gone

@WhatsThePoint in theory, things should be handled as quickly as possible

@ShadowWizard that is animal abuse ...

@rene not when the victim does not complain... ;)
@rene thanks!

@JourneymanGeek true, but nothing goes to plan 100% of the time, just annoying as at least two experienced users saw this (one edited and one commented) that could have very easily flagged this to get it dealt with

9:51 AM
and they felt it wasn't necessary
or had flagged and got rejected
or...

@ShadowWizard thanks, will try and get a question built today

@WhatsThePoint VLQ doesn't reach mods, only review. If we'll be able to flag old answers, it will flood the review queue.

...actually, it does reach mods, after a certain delay

VLQ does reach mods, if we don't get it deleted in 15 minutes.

yup
and I usually turn off that delay XD

9:53 AM
me too

I have the flags page bookmarked with the delay disabled :P

but I'd like to have a 'Skip' option on flags

well I just don't handle those ;p

The low quality posts review is rarely ever in a high count so I would argue "flooding" isn't too much of an issue

@WhatsThePoint maybe its not a high count because its limited

9:57 AM
maybe, but I think the benefits of removing Low Quality content outweighs the drawback in a spike in flags

@WhatsThePoint well, VLQ usually means honest attempt to answer (otherwise it's NAA) that is just poorly written. No real harm having it stick around.
Of course better delete, but if not... not that fatal.
On smaller sites mods with.. ahem... spare time... can easily go through them and delete, but on SO... there's just too many.

asynchronous javascript promise / await functions are a godsend

Which is probably an argument for the time to flag as VLQ should be relative to the size of the site

> How do you change availability at Mcdonalds?
One of the best titles ever! ^
@WhatsThePoint well, wrap it all in the discussion, we'll see what responses you'll get. ;)

10:03 AM
I will :)

await("@WhatsThePoint's discussion").then(function() { downvote(); });
:P

wait, in SE, the difference between Low Quality and Very Low Quality is very significant...

@Somewhat no flag for just "low quality".
lol... Mcdonalds user changed their name...

@JourneymanGeek umm, did you decline my NAA flag? It's still pending on my side :/

10:10 AM
Congrats on 100,000 rep, @ShadowWizard!

@Mithrandir thanks!

Congrats on 100k rep!

hehe 100k starwall :D
@Somewhat thanks!
@Somewhat see your flag history page

@ShadowWizard yeah, still pending..

Maybe @Journeyman prefers to have other mod handle it, since he does't want to hurt you?

10:15 AM
@Somewhat I did!
Or I thought I did
I did now!

@JourneymanGeek I thanked!
Or I thought I thanked
I thanked now!

lol'ed now

well, I still can mod flag that answer ... (not sent thought)
as well as flag it as spam/rude...

@ShadowWizard Do you mind if I quote you in the question?

10:22 AM
@WhatsThePoint be my guest! :)
But wait... I'm against what you suggest... No?
hmm... was sure you have some posts on MSE, I see this will be your first.

I have posts on MSO, but never MSE, and I was quoting you to play devils advocate

@Somewhat I'm 99% sure you'll get error message when submitting a custom flag, something like "you already flagged this post".
@WhatsThePoint oh, lol :D
But good to know you're familiar with meta sites in general.... ;)

@Somewhat not seeing those flags

parenting.stackexchange.com/q/35218, currently in HNQ, is an interesting example of cultural differences creating conflict. Asker wants to avoid their child being indoctrinated with Christianity; a commenter there literally does not believe that there is no school close enough for the OP to send their child to that will not indoctrinate them with Christianity, and pretty much accuses them of lying about their circumstances and really wanting to indoctrinate the child with leftism(?!)

11:49 AM
when I read that HNQ 10 hours ago, the comments were not that wild...

12:00 PM
@MarkAmery well, there is a point in comments like "Since you choose to live in a religious region of the country, you shouldn't rant about it", if that's really the case. But of course there's a more friendly way to say this...

12:28 PM
Ooooh boy the answers there are enraging to me as an deconvert who got the religious indoctrination treatment at school. People conflating merely learning about a religion with being indoctrinated in it. Not a single mention anywhere of the virtue of faith, which at least to me seems like the key point - my Christian teaching (which I thought was normal?) heavily emphasised that it was wrong to doubt the truth of what we were taught, which was what made us afraid to have or discuss doubts.
It's like most of the people there have no conception of what the OP is even asking about. I guess that's an inherent problem with asking about culture-specific problems in a diverse forum.
Bonus points for the positively-scored answer saying that antitheists should "look for another country to live" and that anyone daring to be non-Christian in Germany should expect to "get in conflicts with [their] neighbors". Yikes!
(It seems to me that this is a general pattern; whenever culture-war topics hit HNQ, the answers generally tend to be uniformly ideologically skewed in one direction or another.)

The same issue with Politics ~

Anyway, that's my dose of HNQ-supplied anger for lunchtime; now, back to work :)

Politics often goes hand in hand with religion, yeah.
Though somehow in USA it appears to not be the case.

Not this decade as much.

@SomethingBadHappened oh, you mean it involved religion in the past?

Tis' what happens if you have a extremely diverse set of people congregating on one site

I’m not an America but I remember a lot more discussion of religion in the America political news I saw ten years ago compared with now. It seems to have fallen out of focus.

(that said, I haven't finished catching up today's network-wide meta posts...)

@SomethingBadHappened I wonder why. Maybe because the young-er generation chose to not go in that path, overall?
