2:23 AM
Wrahh, puke! Another morning when I find myself waking up at the sofa and got awoke from the interwebz pinging me. I am considering to leave going to my bed actually tho.

@πάνταῥεῖ ping!
Who pinged you?

Can you do violence to them with fruit?

I'm lacking some rotten tomatoes it seems :3

Maybe whack them over the head with a ripe pandamelon! (What do yo u mean you can't ripen a pandamelon? ITS NOT A FRUIT? WHAT DO I PAY YOU PEOPLE FOR?)
(actually pandamelons are too adorable to use as weapons en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pademelon )
also spelled pademelon... oh wait

2:26 AM
It's probably my fault consuming too much whiskey :P

( ゜_゜)🍅===

@πάνταῥεῖ I'd suggest gatorade.
That helps with my entirely sober hangovers
The lemon lime stuff
and not the knockoffs, which are vile and I wouldn't inflict upon my enemies.

Ahhrg, I hate that kind of "energy drinks" (there's even a movie about the dumbasses taking over based on that)

3:04 AM
@JourneymanGeek That again reminds me of the famous marsupilami ("Houba"). We can't actually deny where we're coming from ;)
πάντα ῥεῖ Trademark designated antifacist, communist, philosopher, nerd and weird beardy / horsetail style hairdo keeper speaking.
@journey We are what we are ;)

3:48 AM
@πάνταῥεῖ oh, its one of those things I drink as a last resort ;)

:D Whiskey finally translates to water of life, I believe you meant some different fluid, no?

usually water. Unless I feel like dying. Clearly its such bad stuff that it overflows the death buffer.

Water is also fine, yeah :)
Beer serves well for slower injection of alcohol and supplement of fluids necesary tho.
< Typos, you see. I am on whiskey of course :P

of course
I didn't notice tho ;p

Me did tho
Side effects
I didn't ping you, but I really liked that imaginatory bar scene of @Bart, @rene, and @tinker recently
Especially we could bet how many teeth Bart would loose with it :D
I am still sitting just at the counter ;)

4:09 AM
0_0
I think I missed that

That was a funny trail
I could recur the transcript if you like so

That would be helpful yes
SEEMS LIKE THE SORT OF THING I WOULD REMEMBER BUT Nooooooooo

:D
sonics around => hush

@JourneymanGeek Do you think 1980s computers did it better?

@sonic I am mean I know ;)
Well, the 1980's computers definitely restricted us for available memory and performance consumption, In a way we've been urged to write better code dealing with these environments. The coercion lowers with modern systems.
@Sonic C'mon lets drink a shot together, relax!

4:48 AM
@sonic Just informat
This is discussed at higher level already: twitter.com/Grady_Booch/status/1040642243269287936

5:10 AM
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog I prefer the 90s personally

@JourneymanGeek My desktop from 1998 works perfectly; the only problem is that it needs a new CMOS battery

I do have a (probably working) 90s era workstation (which I forgot the password for) - its an SGI octane that is probably slower than my phone

@JourneymanGeek Can't you just click "Cancel" on a Windows 9x computer's login screen?

rofl
It runs Irix ;)
on MIPS
(I kinda wish they'd gotten the memo and had a x86 port)

Ah, mine's got a 450 MHz Pentium III, 96 MB RAM, 10 GB HDD, and a built-in dial-up modem.
And Windows 98

5:15 AM
The Octane and the similar Octane2 are IRIX workstations marketed by SGI. Both are two-way multiprocessing-capable workstations, originally based on the MIPS Technologies R10000 microprocessor. Newer Octanes are based on the R12000 and R14000. The Octane2 has four improvements compared to Octane, a revised power supply, system board and Xbow. The Octane2 also shipped with VPro graphics and supports all the VPro cards. Later revisions of the Octane also included some of the improvements introduced in the Octane2. The codenames for the Octane and Octane2 are "Racer" and "Speedracer" respectively...
I don't remember the specs, but its somewhat more powerful
and makes a great door stop

Ever since we moved away from that desktop, every computer we've ever owned has been a laptop, until 2015 (a Lenovo server desktop with Intel Xeon, at the bargain price of $350), and in 2017 (built a custom desktop)
@JourneymanGeek I do remember that a game I ran on that old machine used to run very slowly, but much faster on a 2005 Windows XP machine with a Celeron processor
(2007?)
We have dozens of laptops lying around the house. Each one has a specific hardware or software configuration that makes it useful for a particular task.
Most of them still work, with a few minor glitches, but nevertheless

I build desktops. Don't think I have any other post 2006 hardware
have a few old thinkpads lying around

@JourneymanGeek I believe they're the only full-size notebooks built for the consumer market that are still made and sold here
The consumer market has mostly moved to thinner laptops, 2-in-1s, etc., but last year we bought a full-size notebook made that year, which was a Lenovo ThinkPad
The rest of them are all for the business market.
That machine pretty much resembled a laptop from the Windows 7 era, except it had a M.2 SSD instead of a hard drive, and (obviously) Windows 10. It has everything else, including an optical drive, a full arrangement of ports, and no touchscreen.

5:38 AM
My current laptop is a razer blade stealth, which I love to bits
I really love my desktops tho, system building is fun

@JourneymanGeek Ever connected an M.2 SSD, by any chance?
I was a user of an original 2012 Microsoft Surface RT. I still find it useful, due to its very light weight, its keyboard cover, and its stand. Part of why it didn't sell so well was because of its inability to run desktop software, but on a screen that small, why would you want to do that? (It did carry a full version of Microsoft Office 2013, as opposed to pared-down versions for iOS and Android.)

6:00 AM
has an M2 ssd
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog eh, funny thing is I remote into my desktop from my phone
and no, my current system's about 2012/2013 for most part
so no m.2 slots
desktop +1 should be m.2, and mostly flash

1 hour later…
7:30 AM
sleepily pokes head into tavern, gets an orange juice

MORNING!!!!!!!

Shhh, you'll wake me up! I don't want to wake up!

I'm at work, and listening to youtube videos on work, since the other guy in the office is listening to music that might be your age or older and snoring in a most disturbing manner.
SNOOOREEEESNOOREEEEECHOKINGSOND....silence...snore...SNORE....

heh
I'd be listening to YouTube as well, but I'm still sleeping

SURE YOU ARE!

7:36 AM
Hi

Nothing wakes you up like a wet nose to the foot.

Can we shout a little quieter? It woke me up

@JourneymanGeek ...o_o

well unless you were a bigger or jumpier dog ;)
@Mithrandir My dog used to wake me up by bouncing along the side of the bed, then wetnosing my foot ;p

7:38 AM
This is the first thing that YouTube suggested for me this morning, and it's weirdly appropriate for here:

@Tinkeringbell OK!
it just recommended stuff from new albums I didn't know were ;p
(yay, new within temptation and amaranthe albums)

waits for new annapantsu and Caleb Hyles covers

annapantsu sounds almost like "what pants" in tamil

ahaha
I tried to compile a list of the YouTubers I listen to, but it got too long...

lol
I basically have "my mix" and am knocking out the odd inexplicable stuff

7:42 AM
Hi
(6 minutes lag)

@JourneymanGeek I search out new cover artists and then listen to them enough that they show up in my mix

Did I wake you up too?
@Mithrandir I mostly listen to stuff offline.

I guess so... I heard your scream while listening to YouTube video. Weird...

I do that as well, but I've largely moved to online stuff.

Well, wauzers are pretty loud ;p

7:46 AM
@JourneymanGeek annapantsu is literally "that kind of pants" in Japanese ._.

._.
so odd.

someone should tell her that :p

Maybe she knows.

perhaps

;p
@Somewhat SUCH PANTS!

7:48 AM
@Mithrandir It's a good song to wake up with ;)
Even better to go to sleep with I guess, but this'll do ;)

heh

Its ok. I think I woke up half the planet.

It's a bit early though...
Next week, can we do this an hour later?

naw, I'm not working next week. ;p

Well. To Whomever is in charge of wake-up services when @Journey isn't working: I'd like to be woken an hour later next week!

7:52 AM
;p
Woof!

^Ash has received your request

(alas, this would be funnier if I could subscript in chat, then I could subwoof talk quietly ;) )

@JourneymanGeek MUCH WOOF!
ˢᵘᵖᵉʳʷᵒᵒᶠ

!!!
hm
smallcaps?

let the unicode do the work ;)
(subscript has much lesser characters though...)

7:59 AM
Ah

morning

morning

morning

I've used 2.5 gb so far today ._.
I'm a thirdway through my work day
(lucky it dosen't count against my data cap)
MORNING!

(How much caffeine has JMG had?)

8:08 AM
@Mithrandir I think someone gave him too many dog cookies ;)

@Tinkeringbell there's no such thing as too many dog cookies. ._.

confirmed

Welll.... I'm going to get breakfast. I think I've properly woken up by now :)
cya

8:25 AM
(I wonder if ash went to the dog park, or if it got inexplicably rained out again)
We had a running joke it would never rain on sunday mornings - we've basically only missed going to the dog park when the car was unavailable, or if ash was sick... and it rained those days).
It seems to rain out when I work days XD

@JourneymanGeek :( It's sunny over here right now, which is good. It was getting cold ;)

8:50 AM
We're gettgin 30c again next week

Yep, here too

9:10 AM
I'm in for ice-cream

It's been raining for the last couple of weeks here in Austin. I get to look at it from the top floor of my building...

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog whoa... good for you!
Raining and cold? Or warm-ish? @Sonic

[difficult to notice rain outside due to position of window] [rides elevator down to ground floor] [opens door] [notices rain] [rides back up to top floor] [obtains umbrella] [rides back down and exits building]
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard It's humid, so warm.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog huh? What did you try to do?
oh, list of actions.

9:17 AM
Exit the building and walk somewhere

The formatting is weird, that's all. :)
Better use arrows. Or 1) items 2) Like 3) this. :D

I have screenwriting experience

"[" and "]" are for tags, so it's confusing.
(or links)

status-always-rain-on-sunday
Now that SU and SF have the new design, the maroon color of moderator-only tags is gone forever, only to live here.

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard That's very colorful ice cream :)

9:20 AM
@Tinkeringbell thanks, when @rene asks, I obey. :D

Interesting, I had ice cream tonight too. Coconut ice cream with fruit.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog nice... I have ice cream every evening, with the dinner's coffee.
(cold instant coffee with ice cream)

Interesting communication patterns noticed. I like strawberry and especially pistache ice-cram BTW.

Your actions years ago still have effect to this very day! :D

The interwebz never forgets

9:28 AM
@πάνταῥεῖ or the @FOX

ahhhhhh

It's quite interesting that my recently posted discussion at MSO gained that much positive reaction. When I posted it, I expected downvotes to hell TBH.

@JourneymanGeek ?

9:39 AM
I scream?

@JourneymanGeek I typoed again.

user271002
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard That's not ice cream. That's coloured mashed potatoes.

You scream?

@Loong prove it! :D
@Somewhat why scream?

9:41 AM
@Loong And what after putting it to the fridge's deep cooler?
@JourneymanGeek That's what I usually say when I am going to the loo and leave off the pee ;-)

user271002
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Do you see the droplets of molten ice under the hot studio lights? Neither do I. ;-)

Not to mention I seem to have some problemz with my prostate these days :)

@πάνταῥεῖ That may be a bit much TMI ;)

@πάνταῥεῖ Well, its something that can be beneficial, encourages folks to closevote responsibly and is framed well...

9:50 AM
@Tinkeringbell It's quite normal for my age :)

@πάνταῥεῖ Okaaay. Next time I'm on my period, I'll let you know ;)

@Tinkeringbell Ohhkay If you're not going to do that every month. These problemz are what I am telling my teenage step daughter if she starts complaining again about the general discrimination and burden of women compared to men
:3

ewww
TIMI YOU BOTH
@πάνταῥεῖ I'm a guy with a healthy prostrate lol
and erm
You're not old enough to talk about that yet.

@JourneymanGeek Wait a few years ...
We're just giving enough information to differentiate ourselves from the bots TMI
Just real life

10:06 AM
That's what a bot would say!

@JourneymanGeek read that as "That's what a boy would say".. :D

Bots are so well trained these days

@πάνταῥεῖ not @Kenny

Boys typically don't have problems with... yanno
only old men ;)

He pee and poo all the time

10:09 AM
Normal life ...
@JourneymanGeek And young women complaining ...

Well technically, you kiiiindaaa started it

Whom @Shadow or me?

If you want to complain about your prostate, might I suggest a different room? You could call it depends.
@πάνταῥεῖ totally you, though it did possibly start with my terrible ice scream joke

@JourneymanGeek I didn't complain, just the ahhhhhh made me aware :3

@πάνταῥεῖ you! :D

10:13 AM
well or talk about it in general ;)

"Ring-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!
Gering-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!
Gering-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!"
Or even better the good ole "Ring dum a do dum a da" from the irish folk song whiskey in the jar
:3

@Tinkeringbell Is she serious?

@JourneymanGeek guess Den can host such stuff.... ;)

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard I am ok with that

10:19 AM
I love people satirizing themselves at the very best.

@πάνταῥεῖ How am I supposed to know, that was waaaaaay before my time :P

@πάνταῥεῖ its eurovision.
I'm told that it is as serious as germans.

@JourneymanGeek Ehhh... Eurovision hasn't been serious for years now ;)

SERIOUS. AS. GERMANS.

Yeah, I know. Germans don't joke ;)

10:21 AM
Next thing you will tell me germans have a sense of humour.

user271002
:-(

@JourneymanGeek You are aware about the Hogan's Heroes series, don't ya?

@πάνταῥεῖ Its american.

@Tinkeringbell not a toy!

@Loong I'm singaporean. I take fun seriously

10:22 AM
@JourneymanGeek Sure, but with their current president ... I'll not take that to an extend :P

@Tinkeringbell douze pointe

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard I mean, this was 2009: youtu.be/4SExOB7IO2c?t=47

@Loong Don't feel offended, it's all about fun :D

LED glitter suits?

And such ...
Meanwhile ABBA is quite great stuff.

10:24 AM
@rene Back when we knew how to make a song ;)

user271002
> How many Germans does it take to change a light bulb? – One. We are efficient and don't have a sense of humor.

@Tinkeringbell well we won with a dress made of bird feathers

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Heh. Those guys still give concerts every now and then, I believe. Everything way over the top ;)
I quite liked the song we sent in last year, and the year before that :)

@Loong It always takes at least three: 1. The one who notices the light bulb is defect 2. The one that got noticed 3. The one who's gonna repair the defect. The latter is the common german idiot

@Tinkeringbell Was that with the 3J's?

10:27 AM
Correction, I liked the songs from 2018 and 2016 ;)
@rene 3J's was 2011

I was close ...

@rene Sieneke was 2010 :/

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Pics plz

We still haven't gotten over that trauma ;)

Unusual fun at the meta tavern these sundays :D

Sharon Cohen (Hebrew: שרון כהן‬ on 2 February 1972), professionally known as Dana International (דנה אינטרנשיונל‬), is an Israeli pop singer. She has released eight albums and three additional compilation albums. She is best known as the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 1998 in Birmingham with the song "Diva". After consolidating her initial commercial success with the albums Umpatampa (1994) and Maganuna (1996), she was selected in 1998 to represent Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest with her song "Diva". Placing first at the international competition, she came to public attention...

@rene Quite close yes

@Loong That was one of the best ever ;)

Mamma Mia

10:33 AM
@πάνταῥεῖ Here we go again! youtube.com/watch?v=8TowcElmyek

LOL, I've expected that of course

If he didn't have that whiny accent, it would've been so much better :)

How can you actually be outlaw in the Netherlands??

You refuse to wear clogs.

10:36 AM
Maybe just not have a 'verblijfsvergunning'? I dunno..
@JourneymanGeek I haven't worn those since I'm in my teens :P

The dutch once took Malacca from the portugese. The english took it from them. Malacca is no longer english. The clogs stayed.

@JourneymanGeek clogs are actually pretty great :) But you need to get your own, not wear someone else's ;)

@Tinkeringbell well, I didn't want to make the other joke I'd make about a dutch person if I wanted to seem ignorant.

The wood forms a little to your feet, so if you wear other people's clogs they seem awful :)
@JourneymanGeek Go on, bring it on :)

not all flowers are tulips here ...

10:38 AM
I am just flabbergasted, all of you made my day already. That's really quite unusual for the Tavern at sundays.

I'd make a joke about dutch ladies
Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad (doing business as Dutch Lady Malaysia) (MYX: 3026) is a manufacturer of cow milk and dairy products in Malaysia since the 1960s. It was previously under Royal FrieslandFoods, a Netherlands-based multinational co-operative. Dutch Lady Malaysia is currently a subsidiary of FrieslandCampina, which was formed in December 2008 as a result of the merger between FrieslandFoods and Campina. Its current products include growing up milk, UHT milk, pasteurised milk, sterilised milk, family powdered milk, low fat and 0% fat drinking yoghurt, and low fat yoghurt. == History... ==
(they had a logo that was a 1800s milk maid)

@Loong I have to admit that it were germans who had taken humor, cynicism and sarcasm to an extend I actually don't follow. I am an afterborn thank goddess.

@JourneymanGeek Hmmm. I didn't even know that brand :/

@JourneymanGeek Looks a little bit like this: pubblestorage.blob.core.windows.net/d9c7ad83/content/2017/4/… which is a Dutch brand of butter/margarine.

10:46 AM
but with a pointier hat
and all the other sterotypes

And of course we had:

user271002
Frau Antje is a Dutch character used in the advertising of cheese (and other dairy products). "Frau" is German for "Ms.", and "Antje" is a first name that is as acceptable in German as it is in Dutch: the character was created specifically for the export to Germany. Frau Antje was born during the 1959 edition of the Berlin International Green Week, a trade fair for agriculture and nutrition. Apparently, a young Dutch woman from The Hague named Antje was working the booth of the Dutch Dairy Organization (NZB), serving cheese; when she fell ill and her colleagues kept being asked "where Frau Antje...

As recently mentioned, I love the dutch and belgians as long they don't hinder me at the motorway at holiday seasons ;-)
Regarding clogs, these are great for dance shows :3
@Loong What's your origin country?

user271002
Germany

Ahhh, I already suspected such :)
The particular county I may ask?

user271002
10:53 AM
Lower Saxony

I am from bavaria
You have all those big metropoles

@πάνταῥεῖ yummy!
Bavarian cream, crème bavaroise or simply bavarois is a dessert consisting of milk thickened with eggs and gelatin or isinglass, into which whipped cream is folded. The mixture sets up in a cold mold and is unmolded for serving. Earlier versions, sometimes called fromage bavarois, did not include eggs. == History == Bavarian cream is a classic dessert that was included in the repertoire of chef Marie-Antoine Carême, who is sometimes credited with it. It was named in the early 19th century for Bavaria or, perhaps more likely in the history of haute cuisine, for a particularly distinguished visiting...

user271002
@πάνταῥεῖ So I was closer to @Tinkeringbell than to you.

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard We just adopted that from the italians, it's not actually bavarian.

user271002
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard That's the first food that comes to your mind when thinking about Bavaria?

10:58 AM
@Loong Not Leberkäse, Brezel or Schweinshaxe?

user271002
for example

Panna cotta it is ...

user271002
or Weißwurst or Schweinsbraten

I'll take Bratwurst then...

Sure Weisswurst is popular. One of the reasons I attend to the Herbstfest in Rosenheim is that I like to eat roasted Ox, which is rarely available otherwise.

11:01 AM
Schnitzels!
I like eating schnitzels when in Germany

@Somewhat There are many different kinds of.

man, this conversation is... the wurst...

@Tinkeringbell That's even mainly an austrian special (I am not going to mention Charly Chaplin's parody now)
@JourneymanGeek No, it's quite enchanting IMO

@πάνταῥεῖ whaaaaaaaaat?! :(

@πάνταῥεῖ Okay, I'll stick with Dutch rookworst then ;)

11:06 AM
@Loong sure... what's the first thing coming to your mind when thinking about Israel? ;)
@πάνταῥεῖ yum... also good!
@πάνταῥεῖ cute!
But some (not @Some ;)) will flag it, so... better not onebox..

oh man
that movie caused me one of the biggest "You should have never looked up what that cool thing was' ever

I only watched the remake and... meh :/

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Melons

I agree with not oneboxing it

@JohnDvorak too late, now RO has to move it.
@πάνταῥεῖ lol

11:09 AM
OK, oneboxing was a lil' bit far takeout.

@πάνταῥεῖ water melons? (there's also common slang use for that word..... lol... ;))

1 message moved to Chimney
Done the needful

Thanks

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Of course the big ones.

oh, the red...

11:10 AM
@JourneymanGeek ty

not the mini one...

@Somewhat what.... is.... th... is... LOL

lotus seed phobia...?

@Journey Moar work for you :3

11:13 AM
Yanno, if you are oneboxing things just so I can move them :3

Of course I know, I am just playing with that feature ;)
@Shadow Seriously what comes to my mind first about Israel is the Moshavs and Kibbuz movements. I love the anarchist and communist mindset of those people starting that. Fight the brits, fuck the rest of the world. We're a nation and we have our place. That comes quite close to my my mindset, and that's what makes it quite close with Noam Chomsky.

All those suckers speaking publicly and try to drive our lives :(
But that room isn't actually about our political discussions, we've gotta face the people and talk with them.
Sorry to leave the fun zone, but sometimes things have to be said beyond welcomeness and cuddling.

11:37 AM
@πάνταῥεῖ Done? Back to cuddling?

I'd give you a hug if you want to

ehh. ;p

Kittens!
@πάνταῥεῖ I think hugging isn't allowed in chat? At least, on IPS we banned it :P

This was my ever best cat I met in my life so far:
Think of me whatever you want :P

The neighbours had a cat that would demand to be petted every night I came home
It's dead now though :( And the new one doesn't seem to like me

11:47 AM
my neighbourhood strays vanished :(
My favourite cat ever was a enormous, scarred one eyed ginger tom that would just roll over and block your way till he got petted ;p

Her name was Fatima, and she was the king of trolls. That was one of the major reasons I loved her so much.
She's dead and gone meanwhile sadly ...
And of course she demanded to be petted all the time. Not that she also took the most devious position to attend for doing that :)
