Anyone speaking Spanish in here? If yes: want to add Spanish here?

2 hours later…
2:01 AM
@Fabby I will add Spanish.

2:11 AM
@Fabby I submitted a proposed change (not enough rep to directly make edit).
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard could we stop playing the blame game? Simply blaming others for our troubles is not constructive. Instead, let's discuss what happened and what we can do to solve it.

@RobertColumbia this is just for fun. Humor. I get it that you don't like fun but please, do not ruin it for all other people around. If you don't like the culture of this room then by all means, don't take part in it. Cheers.

I don't know. The link is to an open source platform docs

It can't be a coincidence that the second user who posted the answer "happened to see the question" in 3 minutes and posted an innocent answer. It is 100% coordinated spam.

6:41 AM
Who spams for an open source platform?

No idea and I don't care... spam is spam.

Maybe it's colleagues who got the bright idea to post some Q/A coordinatedly but used the wrong site
Lord knows that wouldn't be the first time this happened

So it's abuse. Still deserves red flag.

is it?
I usually reserve spam flags for cases where I can infer malice of intent. I think normal deletion suffices here.

7:09 AM
@rene would you consider putting this on Stack Apps? meta.stackexchange.com/questions/166376/…

sure, today?

Whenever you get around to it

OK, I'll prep github and post at the end of my day (in 6 to 8 hours)

'k, great

7:22 AM
@Aibobot since you seem to be worried about weird ringtones... Know that sat nav voice bank exist for characters like Hatsune Miku or various MLP ponies
just think of it
"Po pi po turn left at the next crossroad"
^ just received this from a friend. VS developers news tab.

@Derpy Oh no... One person with malicious intent and you'll be flipping people off the whole day.

remote force punches :p

@Magisch ouch..

@Magisch finally, a technology that will make the old wish "Please [insert divinity here] give me the power to punch people in the face over the internet" possible

Remote fish slaps!

the rebirth of FTP
as in Fist Transfer Protocol, of course.

Of course, a prosthetic that goes 'gogo gadget screwdriver' would be cool :D

A voice-controlled robotic glove can't be worse than a voice-controlled pair of glasses ... right?

I wanted voice controlled glasses
I have to wear them anyways, so why not make them cool?

8:27 AM
@Tinkeringbell Do they shoot a red laser beam if I shout "Optic BLAST!!!!!!!!!!!"?

@Derpy That'd be a nice feature :)
I also want danger warnings when driving, and something that helps me see where I can and can't drill holes in my wall (because of pipes etc.)
Maybe I could make it so that it'll recognize wrong code syntax :) As the current thing I'm working with doesn't have a spell checker

8:52 AM
something that helps me see where I can and can't drill holes in my wall Did you try a "klusser"? It drills the holes as well ...

@rene I know there's tools that can do that, but why not have glasses for it? If you're going to have smart glasses, have them do everything! :D

I wouldn't call a human being a tool but ... your call ...

@rene Hehehe ;) True. That was a bit wrong. In some way, my mind ended up thinking of those tools that search for pipes for you :/

I admit I tricked you a bit to make that mistake. I'm sorry.

It's okay, it was a good trick :)

9:01 AM
@Tinkeringbell why do you need me to do your work?

@Bart I said smart glasses...

^ flagging

Waiting...

Then again, given how long I've been stuck on two trivial problems over here, maybe you're right.

I'm stuck with Notepad today. Dev server is down.
I've been stuck for about an hour now ;)

9:05 AM
@Bart You are here. That's enough for a proof

Idiots on the Meta?

@Bart That's not very inclusive... :/

It's very inclusive. I think of you all as idiots, no one excluded.

You have a very positive outlook on this world.

They call me Captain Cheerful. But for some reason they start to explain sarcasm to me immediately after.

Well, unless you click the leave link

@RobertColumbia Incorporated, thanks!
@Derpy Star bait! :-) :-) :-)

Have they finally get rid of the profile icon in top bar?

Who? What? Where?

Chrome, Profile icon, Top bar

10:43 AM
That depends on your screen size.

oh, they dropped it a bit below, to be less noticeable.
Kind of "hey! Now you'll have to look for it!" game.
Took me 10 precious seconds to find it after the last update. lol

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard I think you'll find that @πάνταῥεῖ will disagree with you.. (cc @Bart ) :0:-) ;-)

@Bart here's his twin!
@Mithrandir should know that one ^

hey, he's an airport

lol
Q: Who is Ben Gurion?
A: Airport, like, duh?!

10:56 AM
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Ben-Gurion?

@Bart you... cheated! :D
Reverse Google image lookup?

Haha, nooooo, I was just too late
No

So... how would you know??

Ehm ... he's kinda famous

Many in Israel itself have no clue who he is these days.

10:58 AM
The glasses confused me though

Think they still teach in school about him of course, but these days, many aren't paying any attention in school.
@Bart lol actually I had to search explicitly for pics with glasses. :D

:D

(probably he needed them only for reading, so usually was without the glasses. ;))
@JohnDvorak so did you find it by now? :)

nice. Just discovered that the old Google's Pac Man doodle does indeed crash at level 256

@Derpy You have been playing a doodle to level 256? :/

@Derpy time to call Billy Mitchell dum-dum-drum-dum~

@Tinkeringbell nope, TV Tropes
Which btw also made me realize another thing. It is really a pity the VR game Duck Season does not reference the level 100 bug from the original game it mocks.

12:40 PM
Never got close enough to that level to see it first hand

12:57 PM
@Fabby yvw. Glad I could help.

Gamers on the Meta

1:08 PM
@Bart considering the game should already have a "game crash" secret ending, it could have been a nice idea to add a reference to that.
Anyway, it is fun how about everyone that gets to play Duck Season gets one of the horror endings (as intended) first and probably will never realize without a guide that there is a way to have the game never turn into an horror in the first place.
tells a lot about the players.
That said, I must also add that anyone playing that game after playing Duck Hunt is bound to try that little action that triggers the nightmare as soon as getting in the game

1:37 PM
@Derpy if there's one thing I've learned from my period in gamedev, it's that players are strange and unadventurous.

Well, I guess that when you've suffered a painful and grisly death several hundred times, one becomes risk-averse;)

Dark Souls? IWBTG?

1:56 PM
Meat boy?

@Bart ooook, spoiler.
The game is a creepy pasta deconstruction of Duck Hunt.
Yep, Duck Hunt. The NES game
in the original, you used the console lightgun to shoot ducks
miss, and the in-game dog laughs at you

hate that dog

^ the laughing dog became a meme. Hated almost as much as Icarus Eggplant wizards, gamers would just try to shoot it instead of the ducks.
Obviously, it wasn't programmed to react to that.
Now, guess which action activates the "creepypasta" mode in the Duck Hunt inspired game "Duck Season"?
yep, shoot the dog even once and the game turns from a boring Duck Hunt reference to a "the dog will kill you" horror game.
there is an ending for never triggering the "real" part of the game - the horror one - by never shooting the dog.

2:08 PM
I guess that dog makes the perfect dog avatar for an SE profile :)

I still have to see someone getting that ending as the first one.
The funny part? The devs actually included a clue to how to trigger the real game in the "never shoot the dog" ending, probably fearing someone would have problems finding out the trigger otherwise.
Yet, everyone gets the "horror" ending instead
Which basically means that 90% of the players of the game just shoot the dog "for no reason"

annoyance can be a reason to do things

@Tinkeringbell to be fair, I never played the VR game first hand, just heard about it from friends and saw some videos. That said, as far as I know, the dog in the remake does nothing to annoy you.
it does NOT laugh like the original
the only "justification" would be that in contrast to everything else looking "realistic" the dog seems just a person in a dog costume (blame FNAF for the idea that animatronics sell games)

90% of the players are old enough to know Duck Hunt?

Hmmm. I never played the original, I believe one of my cousins had the game on her VR

2:15 PM
and when they see ducks and a dog...

I've heard rumours of it during history classes, does that count?

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Link at end of answer, potentially bad ns for domain in answer: Can a live feed of blockchain transactions be obtained from using bitcoin core wallet? by favvy coin on bitcoin.SE

@Somewhat possible. The game is indeed built to appeal older gamers. It contains references to FF6 and Earthbound too.

And also, AVGN on NES Shooter accessories...
(warning: strong language as always for AVGN)

@Somewhat Oh, the nerd. I always wondered if Sam in Total Drama was intended to be a reference to him.
What I know, is that he managed to get a cameo in an anime
nope, those two characters on the right can't be just a coincidence

2:27 PM
@Derpy nice, I just knew this...

^ Sam in Total Drama. He has the opposite personality as the nerd - basically super nice and calm
I think he even once calls himself the Calm Videogame Nerd or something similar
please notice the room in the screenshot and how it fits the AVGN one
(aka an huge game collection behind a couch)

how nice....
just found a .ValidateOrThrowAsync(.....) method in a Save procedure.
Basically - asynchronously validate the data, throw Exception if invalid
and guess what?
the invocation is lacking the "await"...
do your math.

I'll do the math asynchronously...

@Derpy you'll find a ticket that save was slow. That ticket is resolved ...

3:21 PM
:D

3:37 PM
@Derpy let's just say we were surprised to see how easily players gave up on anything that wasn't glaringly obvious. Had to adjust quite a bit of content as a result.

Auto-save, no stuckable points (point of no return?), yeah...
Although I have to admit I couldn't defeat the last boss on Rabi-Ribi on easy...

I wonder what SE will do about the new EU copyright directive
Essentially SE will be required to maintain an upload filter on all user content and if any copyrighted content gets through they'll be liable
Sounds like it couldn't be properly implemented on SE
(at least from how I understand article 11 & 13 on the new copyright directive)

No more external links in questions and answers I guess

Thats one part, but what if a user copy pastes part of a news article or copyrighted book? if I understand it right, the new law requires content hosting websites to effectively and completly prohibit any copyrighted content from being uploaded

I'm not exactly up to date on the details (for as far as there are any), but I can see a DMCA-style situation being the most practical.

3:48 PM
the new law doesn't allow for mistakes though
If it ever gets posted, you're fully liable
No takedown or anything
That's a large part of what's being criticised

meh

Yup, that's the intent ... but I guess we'll have to see how that holds up in court. I can't see it implemented like that.

I'll see if I still have a pre Y2K napster client. We can share content that way without needing a server. I call it server-less architecture.

cloud-based image uploader using block-chain?

I wonder how you fine a decentralized service
You can't really can you

port scan the internet? there are only so many IPs...

@Magisch UDP broadcast?

@rene I also see it on sites without unified theme (Anime.SE), perhaps deliberate?
with reasons, probably "to add visibility" just like... the underline... on the links...

no distractions ...

4:16 PM
The tags section when editing also... feels different? "At least one tag is required"?
(or I didn't even notice it was there all along)

nope that is new as well

I hope they have done a research, which probable gave a result "we have this feature since 6-8 years ago, but not many users used or even noticed it..." and thus, boom, always show inline "edit" for tags

I don't see anything mentioned in the DAG month update either

Hmm... why does SE solicit a feedback form when they have trouble keeping up with what the MSE community wants?

@rene we haven't even had a post for this month...

4:25 PM
@rene Pretty sure that wasn't intentional. Pinging folks internally that last went near that code.

thanks!

If it was an issue of hiding the link until a hover event, at the least, the link would need to explicitly say what it edited, so I can't imagine it was on purpose.

@Shadow I didn't fully get why you pinged me today in conjunction with @Bart's idiots on meta statement?

@TimPost If the goal was to not remove or hide UI elements that you will not use then at a minimum it needs a better label.
That was also what Animuson said.
And that matters

After clicking the "inline edit tag" link, I kind of see a.. "3 dots, but really streeeeetched" progress bar?

4:30 PM
@Somewhat yeah, that is another bug / goodie

Darn it! You've caught us re-writing everything in Perl!

Perl being write-once this will be your last re-write.
I knew Shog9 made a witty statement about it

so... it hides current tags and shows a progress bar (pull a little space), hides the progress bar after finish (pull a little more space again), then quickly shows the "edit tag" section (push a big space)... the elements below that all like jumping around :/
oooh... The headers can be clicked to focus its text box... (again, I dunno if it's new or not)
also, has this been reported? On "Ask Question" page, the text hint on Tags textbox is cut after the page finishes loading?
uhh... or maybe it's only on my side...

@Somewhat I see that as well

Hi partners, I'm a software developer from Brazil and I work with PHP and Java (Android) actually. I want to engage on game's development, and I'm curious about what i should learn to make a game like habbo hotel (MMO rpg and social game). Should I use Unity for that? Thank you =)

@Shadow Here's another great guy wearing glasses BTW :P

7:48 PM
@πάνταῥεῖ lol, he looks like me?
@πάνταῥεῖ Noam Chomsky is awesome.

@Velasco Not really (I mentioned at a 1st glance, without glasses)
@Velasco Yes, he's great. I am following his philosophy over 30 years now.
Great guy with glasses in the right place :P
Regarding Shog9 here you go. There's no similarity at all, I just missed my glasses :D
@Shadow @Bart OK, I am an idiot, just missing to put on their glasses :P
When I met Chomsky 1st, it was about compiler construction and designing programming languages. But compared to their philosophical work, that's all minor.
I am not less an idiot than anyone else engaging in the SE networks :)
