Which I think is just as important - a lot of the comments I post to new users getting it wrong are aimed at letting them know why the comment or question they just posted as an answer got deleted

Like if I made an embarrassing typo, but I can't edit the comment since it's been over 5 minutes, and I can't delete it and re-post it since that would break the flow of the comments, can I flag it to get it edited?

That'd mean I could get an A for either 80/100 points on an exam or 100/100 points on an exam, depending on how classmates did. Wouldn't it then be in my best interest to not help classmates in understanding the material, since them scoring higher means I necessarily score lower?

Heh... the one time I did help someone with their geography, they retook the test and scored higher than I did initially :/

Like if I'm reasonably confident I can score a 90% on a test. That'd mean that if I helped all my classmates who were struggling to also score my 90, I'd get a lower grade then if I had done nothing

The only thing teachers used to do here is when they severely botched the grading scale on an exam they'd take out specific tasks from counting against you

One example was a specific task in the last year second intermediary math exam I did. The task was completly off in terms of challenge and only 2/25 people completed it.

That would completly destroy the significance of grading for me if i were to see it from the perspective of an employer.

How do I know someone was actually good at the subject and not just not as bad as their class mates?

@Tinkeringbell Unfortunately no, because AFAIK this was applied on university-level, not teacher-level

In Singapore, all grades are normalized using the bell curve (normal distribution)

The most blatant point is that it highly disincentivized collaborative learning

It is in your best interest that all your classmates perform as badly as possible

@Somewhat Well, I know some numerus clausus studies over here select based on grades, and I got a higher candidate score for the training to become a software engineer based on my university grades too

@Somewhat I don't know. It seems to me that there must be a reason, but I think USA does curved grades a lot as well (and those are westerners, I think? :P)

Its either a very broad question with many approaches (as a general one) or one very few people can answer (how does this game store this data in a DB)

@vmonteco Yep some sites have very strict rules, others not so much. Always worth checking their help, and often their metas as well, unless the question is very obviously on-topic. Especially for a first question 🙂
