@Shog9 In the question, the user encountered two audits. Plus, savvy users could detect the audit and review 21 real tasks.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog if you flip a coin twice you can easily get heads twice.
If you're determined to get nothing but heads, you just have to keep flipping.

Curious about the improvements.
Oh, that's in July...

oh...
I think there's some meta posts complaining about the new timeline icons and so on ;)

@ShadowWizard Happened to me once

hehe, did you change it? I didn't bother. Quite funny to be honest. :)

@ShadowWizard No

7:01 AM
@ShadowWizard Urban Transport?!?!?! hahahaha

@rene lol no idea what it even means... :D

@Undo That is not a rant. That's just a statement. You still have so much to learn young grasshopper.
@ShadowWizard that you're likely to purchase a tram or train in the near future

rofl
buying a bus

7:55 AM
buh.... I hate ports.

Ports? Harbors? USB? Serial?

lol that one I do like! ^
well... port 110 is awful.

@Bart It is 10:00 o'clock already. Let's have it.

8:01 AM
eager deletion

What was deleted?

a zero. It is a PICNIC kind of problem

It's how I do compression. Delete all the zeroes. They're nothing anyway

@rene why would you press backspace when replying?
I just click the reply and, well... type the reply... ;)

@ShadowWizard the first characters where cat on keybaord so I had to remove those (the chars that is)

8:03 AM
Could be funny if 716744 was id of a public message... too bad MSE is so full with private room! hmm....
@Shog9 just curious.... what is the contents of message #716744 here? chat.meta.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/716744#716744
(Not Found for us mortals)

@ShadowWizard yes, I realized that

:D
Also, wonder if there will be any 10M Chat Messages celebrations? ;)
(coming soon... probably less than a year...)

Meh, no more fun

oh wait... maybe it's just in a deleted room, not private, I think that permalink to a message in a deleted room gives 404 even for 10k users.

9:03 AM
Challenge! Below is a picture with two Jacobs. One is real, one is not real (different brand). Which is the real one? :D
Will this be on topic for coffee.SE? ;)

notrealcoffee.SE

lol
@Bart how come you're so... reachable? You get bored in your new job too? :P

Haha, let's just say working hours and pressure are more reasonable here :D

sending email to @Bart's boss asking to give him more tasks

And I'm waiting for a meeting

9:06 AM
@Bart good! And the coffee?

@ShadowWizard no

Coffee here is decent. Nespresso. As for your instant one, I'd guess the left one is the "fake"

@JourneymanGeek :(

Also need a baseline example of said variety of flavored gravel

@Bart how... how... how do you know??
fearing @Bart's super powers

9:08 AM
Color
The darker brown made me guess

@JourneymanGeek hehe, will be fun if there will be tag where you can post picture of coffee and ask what brand it is.... :P
@Bart Yeah it's Taster's Choice

I hate instant coffee ever since a previous workplace of mine. We used to have good coffee, but every now and then we ran out. And when that happened, there was this sad bucket of instant coffee in the back, without caffeine.

@Bart so bring it yourself... that's what we do here. :)

I'm trying to cut down on coffee though. I drank far too much in the previous office just to keep me going.
Fun fact, I'm wearing this shirt right now: shirtoid.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/…

@Bart pic or it never happened! :D
Fun fact: I wore SO shirt yesterday! ;)

9:19 AM
Awww, even after all these years I have no swag.

Whaaaaaaaat
That's not fair!

Years ago there was something where we were supposed to get swag, but it turned out to be US only.

9:35 AM
Bart without SE swag is like... hmm... wine without alcohol! It just can't be!

@Bart 0_0
SE tends to send swag anywhere
You should complain :(
HOW ELSE DO YOU EAT WAFFLES?

I so far pay for everything with stars. I have plenty of those.

@JNat cross site troll/spammer: stackexchange.com/users/13233857/warner-david?tab=accounts (still active, posted few minutes ago)
@Bart how many stars a waffle cost?
What's the star/dollar rate?
Does it have inflation?

9:53 AM
I'm not exactly sure. How it usually works is that I take the product, throw out a hand full of stars, and then use the subsequent confusion to get out unnoticed.

eww that's stealing! You're a Star Thief! :D

They'll thank me later when stars are more valuable than bitcoins
Or Gulden. I'm sure @rene already invested in those

@Bart still in my old sock ...

Haha. Horrible thing is, I still remember the Gulden to Euro exchange rate.
As well as DingFlofBips

10:03 AM
Yeah, that was an awesome ezelsbruggetje
I can't find the original but this should do it: youtube.com/watch?v=_TcSBe0qzmc

Oh man, nostalgia

10:54 AM
@rene just make sure to not wear that sock my mistake.... ;)
@JourneymanGeek closed, need 1 more del vote

@ShadowWizard cheers
poor chap

gone

12:04 PM

?
Not really hacking, just a super dumb loan service.
They'll probably give "loan" to someone submitting passport with picture of dog, cat, or monkey.

@ShadowWizard that's not a hackers group

And most chances they're just scam anyway.
(the loan services)

In case of hacking, we celebrated it for the last 2 days

@OptimusPrime celebrated what?

12:09 PM
14th Aug was Independence day of Pakistan and they defaced lot of Indian sites with Pak flag. Yesterday was our Independence day and we defaced lot of pak sites with Indian flag
This is happening for last 6-7 years
@ShadowWizard agree but the contents shared in the group aren't related to hacking

Good to see nations act mature

India and Pak are always like this

I know

brotherhood

12:35 PM
@OptimusPrime sorry but I don't really like black hacking, i.e. hacking in order to deface sites, even if "justified" revenge. So I'm not really happy that you did it.
But.. whatever.
I thought you're "white" hacker, i.e. only checking and reporting.

Sort of.
When it comes to Pak/ Bangladesh sites, we simply deface it. It's a part of our revenge.

Why though? What good does it do?

Just now, India lost one of it's greatest leaders
Under his vision, India did the Pokhran Neuclear tests by fooling the US spy satellites in 1998
@Bart Pakistan and Bangladeshi hackers hack and deface Indian sites and put their flag in it

Sure, it's an endless cycle. But why continue it? At a certain point there is no other reason than "because".

Most of the Indian sites are insecure. I test Indian sites most of the time and if found some issue, I send a mail from my alternate email address (In India, the laws are not friendly for hackers) and most of the time, they fix at but never send a response

12:48 PM
So you have some score table? Badges? Swag? Forum? @OptimusPrime

No score table, swag badges, forum. But we've few fb groups and that's where we discus things

And do have some criteria for sites you can deface? e.g. will you also deface school website? Hospitals?

@ShadowWizard we mainly target gov websites google dork inurl:.gov.pk
But often deface sites of private companies too

You might also be able to cause real life damage by hacking, e.g. turning off hospital monitors, will you do that?

we won't hack hospital/ school/ college sites

12:51 PM
Well... maybe not you personally but surely some eager kid in some of your groups might.

we are ethical hackers. well, sort of

That's the danger.

So no irreversible damage either I assume?

Kids won't go that extend. What we actually do is, deface some site, share the admin panel username and password with kids in the group. Then they can post anything on the site
The death of Atal Bihari Vajpayee is a great loss to the nation.
Some major events in his life are timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/…

huh, so you're part of Lulzsec India? @Optimus

12:56 PM
nopes

we both shared the same website (different path) coincidence?

@OptimusPrime hehe, well it's a major news site for India. :)
And unlike USA/Europe, not many of those.
(at least not in English)
Same for Israel, not many big English sites with reliable news dedicated to the country.

1:18 PM
hmm
But there are thousands of localized news sites available

@OptimusPrime well we can't really link to localized sites here.

This is one of my latest mail sent to a company which contains PII of ~32K People. They fixed it in 1 week but never responded to my mail
@ShadowWizard agree and others won't understand it
Except me
@JourneymanGeek can you read malayalam?
Lulz isn't the only team. There are >500 hacker communities present including Kerala Cyber Warriors, Mallu cyber soldiers, Kerala Cyber Army, Kerala Cyber Avengers and etc.
most of them are noobs only
/Cc @Sha

@OptimusPrime no
I can read tamil

@OptimusPrime so you also hack to other hacker groups?
(to prove they're n00bs)

1:34 PM
They invite us to their groups and few of them give us admin privileges in their group.
idk why
Waiting for (google's response on 2 issues) && (decision of the panel on another 2 issues)
According to official sources, more than 75K houses sank in water due to flood

What? Where?

and in some areas, water level reaches upto first floor

Hard to understand when you hop from one subject to another without any reference or background.... :D
Floods are nasty, that's for sure.

In kerala, it's been raining for last 1 week
without taking a break
@ShadowWizard ;p

1:45 PM
even google google.co.in/search?q=flood+in+kerala shows SOS alert

It won't affect me but still worried about others and animals

Well, it's a natural disaster, guess all the big ones get that SOS alert.

few mobile carriers decided to provide free data and voice to people in affected area but the main thing is, there is no power supply for last 1 week

Just twit Elon Musk about it and watter pump will be on the way.

1:50 PM
lol
And to where should we pump the water

Guess government can send spare batteries.
but if the whole mobile network is down it won't be any good.

The mobile tower runs on generators and most of them sank in water.

@OptimusPrime pump the water over here. We haven't had much recently :p

The signal strength is very poor. I'm not in the affected area still the signal strength is poor for me

1:53 PM
Yeah, Europe was burning for a while...

@OptimusPrime I guess that Kashmir/Pakistan is too far..

@ShadowWizard This links to a fascinating conversation back in '11 in the dev room concerning the philosophy of moderator flag handling, of declining flags, and of how most problems on Stack Overflow can be solved by more deletion.
Sadly, I can't quote it.

Because it's full of swear words

Just know: it is one of the truly great conversations, and you are poorer for not being able to read it.

@Bart govt. opened all Dams (nearly 25) and from the biggest dam, the rate of flow of water is 750K Litters per second

1:54 PM
@Bart it's Jeff & rchern, so it's full of swearing and backwards smileys

Dammit, now I NEED to see it

):
Wait... who is rchern? Was/is he a developer??

... now I'm sad.

Q: We're all Rebecca Chernoff \o/

Yi JiangOn this frabjous day, our community manager Rebecca Chernoff has graciously allowed all of us *1 to be her for one day, and one day only. And so, ladies and gentlemen, let me present to you: We're all Rebecca Chernoff \o/ A userscript dedicated to making all of you Rebecca Chernoffs. Reall...

1:56 PM
:D Good old times

@OptimusPrime Eeek.. are the dams in any danger? Dam failures kill so many, so quickly;(

@Shog9 oh.... never got used to the short form. Of course I know her!!
But making her name into "rchern" is like... calling Nick "ncrav"... impossible to guess/remember.

swizard

@MartinJames they opened all the shutters and the rate of flow of water is at it's peak. Still the amount of water comes to the dam is >> the amount of water goes out of the dam

@Bart nah, too easy. Maybe swiza

1:58 PM
@OptimusPrime :((

@Shog9 wait, you said the dev room... there are tons of private rooms here, no?
Also, what was the end result? Jeff going on deletion rampage? ;)
@Bart I think there's a strict policy forbidding to copy anything from any private room.

Time for me to check the job openings then.

lol
You could be a CM, you know. But @Catija was faster. :P

/me spreads fake news about Catija

Too late! She's already inside.

2:05 PM
Eh, if you're already a developer, you're better off looking for a dev job than a CM one. Lots more chances to get a spot and better paid :P

My kind of dev probably doesn't really work at SO :D
Unless they have plans to adopt VR

I'm not complaining for me... but dev salaries are generally a lot higher.

@Catija not sure about SE, I have a feeling they're different, in that aspect.
Though of course might be wrong...
But big part of working for SE is that, well, you work for SE, money is only secondary. ;)
And being able to see all those awesome conversations between Jeff and Rebecca.... priceless! :D

@Bart I hope SO will adpot VR. I heared they planned of having a pool with precog to detect closable question before op submit them. And will be able to flag remove things with their finger like tom cruse. VR will be usefull for the tom cruse part.

Now you can have such conversations with Shog, then in 6-8 years someone will link to one by mistake and you'll tell them what Shog told me. @Catija :)

2:09 PM
@DragandDrop remove comma
(removed)

People here are too eager with the backspace! :D
@DragandDrop or, build Virtual Stack Exchange where questions are only virtual and can't be downvoted...

@ShadowWizard Eh, I think that salary is important in many cases. SE is awesome but if you're already making a great salary, you have to really love SE to take a pay cut to work here... which is a great way to know people really want to be here... there are a lot of very attractive culture sides of it... but I doubt someone'd take a $50-100k pay cut for the honor in most cases.

That said, I don't really know what the dev salary rates are and, coming from, essentially, a help desk position, I definitely traded up in taking this job.

@Catija of course, moving from existing job to SE is different, talking more about cases of "fresh start", or people who didn't have decent job before SE.

2:12 PM
@Catija those are listed ;p

There is/was some "salary calculator", yeah

@ShadowWizard Ah, I came in a bit late, so I may have missed that part of it.

@ShadowWizard get off my lawn

See @rene what you did.... you caused @Catija to discuss salaries. And Shog to get angry with me for not knowing Rebecca. :P

@ShadowWizard that said, I do occationally geek out over internet history so....

2:15 PM
@JourneymanGeek hmm?

@ShadowWizard money is never secondary ;p
@ShadowWizard oh for remembering quite a lot of former folks.
Rebecca was pretty much one of the first CMs here

@JourneymanGeek I do remember, but with proper names... ;)

See, I remember the rchern thing
cause... I have a memory for things like that, and not more important stuff ;p

I remember the Envelope!

Also
Money is never secondary

2:17 PM
And the time it was removed... so much fuss...

BUT its nice to do stuff you love and get paid for it too

Exactly ^

granted, I'm literally in my current job cause 1. No one wants to do it 2. Pay's ok 3. It fills up my resume ._.
Also, I can't really be loyal to my employer as a subcontracted contractor ._.

2:34 PM
@ShadowWizard How much do you earn per month?
/me puts the words "flaunting" and "flouting" on the use once in a post to-do list

2:59 PM
As long as you don't flout the code of conduct, you can flaunt whatever you like.

3:13 PM
:D

3:36 PM
@rene X shekels!
0 < X < 100000
In olden times we had 100 shekels as a coin... upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c3/…
Now it's only up to 10 NIS as coin, then bills of 20, 50, 100, and 200.

I assume you get your wages transferred to your bankaccout?
Or do you get the real deal in your hands each week?

3 hours later…
8:05 PM
Yet again somewhere in the middle of trying to fix errors for installing a dependency of a dependency of a dependency of a dependency of the thing I'm actually trying to get working. Am I the only person with these sorts of problems?

nope
but my preferred solution is to go to the dev of the thing I'm trying to get working and say "this doesn't work for me, make it simpler" :P

8:24 PM
Installing another dependency for that dependency...
It has to stop at some point, right?

8:36 PM
I think it might be simpler to just install Linux...
I still don't quite understand why I can't just download a .lib and instead I have to compile it myself.

9:28 PM
(cc @Mithrandir good read)

9:40 PM
@Shog9 Have you considered this solution to bad audits? If someone fails a review audit, simply prevent that post from being used as an audit again.

What if it's a legitimate failure and not a bad audit?

@AdamLear There are usually a ton of posts that can be used as audits (either way).
And suggested edit audits are randomly generated.
Also, the smaller sites don't even have audits.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog These problems are not for work. I can't tell whether that's fortunate or unfortunate. On the one hand I can just throw up my hands and say "no thanks, I'm not doing that", on the other hand, I can't just throw up my hands and give it to someone else to fix.
Now I'm just getting the same error I got an hour ago. Probably time to go to bed.

1 hour later…
10:49 PM
Shog's mass tagging spree of questions as

Probably clearing some custom flags.
(not from me, stopped asking to tag as completed when my flags just sat there for months.)

Just a couple of hours until my flag ban wears off

flag ban???

(A large enough amount of my prior flags were declined all of a sudden last week, and the ban algorithm considers the time of handling)

Why declined?

10:53 PM
Basically some NAA flags on "acceptable on meta, but not on main Q&A sites" answers, stretching back to July.

NAA flags can be auto declined? Or only manually?

I very rarely flag old answers as NAA. My rule is "if it's harmless, leave it be."
I don't like the hunting and deletion of old answers that are no longer accepted as valid these days.
(e.g. joke answers)

In a couple of hours the handling time of those flags will be more than 7 days ago, and I'll be permitted to flag again.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog yeah exactly what I meant. Leave them. They do not cause any harm.
If you don't understand humor it's fine, but don't delete it.

10:58 PM
I also have a more recent declined spam flag on meta.stackexchange.com/questions/314142/…, which was accepted by Charcoal volunteers as red-flaggable as a spam seed
@ShadowWizard NAA flags can be disputed if enough people review as "Looks OK".
@Undo Minirant time?

@rene Look what I found in Kerry 😀

11:35 PM
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog yeah, actually
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog Charcoal feedback, while usually lining up with flags, shouldn't be used to interpret "this should have been marked helpful".
Our criteria are ever so slightly different than flag-handling criteria; we're able to be more flexible in a few ways.
