6:03 PM
raining a bit here ...

6:25 PM
@rene What about going with latter? :)
@rene Woot. You must be feeling very happy then. :P

rain would be nice, then maybe it would cool off here
its been 110F+ all week here

Is it what we called... global warming? (Yeah, it's also hot here...)

no, its called summer in the desert

okay, that's more reassuring...

southern california is the only place where people die of heat stroke during the winter from what i hear

6:38 PM
@Dragonrage That's really hot..

@NogShine it will probably be hotter during september

@Dragonrage sounds like name of a military operation

lol, it kind of does

Operation Desert Storm
Trivia: what's that? ^
Who remembers?
I was 12 back then... or 13? Memory is dim.

@ShadowWizard thats from the gulf war right? pretty sure that was before my time

6:47 PM
I thought that was Afghanistan

@Dragonrage true!! Nice... unless you Googled? :D
@Tinkeringbell nah... long before.
First Bush era, I think.

@ShadowWizard Not that old I guess. ;)

@Tinkeringbell you're young...

desert fox was Iraq ;)

14 years diff between us. ;)
@Tinkeringbell yup

6:49 PM
@ShadowWizard Yeah, I was born after the Gulf war ;)

i feel like there was a delta force game based on Operation Desert Storm

Though I don't think it had any effect on Europe, so only those in USA (and Israel) should remember it.
@Dragonrage surely there was, yeah.

@ShadowWizard France and the UK might have been involved, looking at the wikipedia overview ;)

@Tinkeringbell by sending troops? Well, that's of course admirable, but still... most forces were of USA, and Israel took most of the actual fire. :)
To be honest I never read the Wiki about it.
So I might have major mistakes...

> Coalition members included Argentina, Australia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belgium, Canada, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Egypt, France, Greece, Honduras, Hungary, Italy, Kuwait, Malaysia, Morocco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Niger, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the United States of America.[160]

Germany and Japan provided financial assistance and donated military hardware, although they did not send direct military

6:54 PM
@Tinkeringbell nice!
hmm...
> 145 non-hostile deaths

It has a table on casualties too: 146 military casualties for the US, and the second (I find that surprising) is Senegal at 92

I wonder what does it mean?? ^^

'friendly' fire

ohhh
145?? That's crazy.

@ShadowWizard All 92 of Senegals military deaths are marked 'accident'.
35 American troops died by friendly fire
@JourneymanGeek Actually, the table only gives 44 for friendly fire, the rest is just marked 'accident'

6:56 PM
vehicles rolling?

@Tinkeringbell well, since Senegal troops probably looks physically like Iraqi troops... it might explain this.

> The largest accident among coalition forces happened on 21 March 1991, a Royal Saudi Air Force C-130H crashed in heavy smoke on approach to Ras Al-Mishab Airport, Saudi Arabia. 92 Senegalese soldiers and six Saudi crew members were killed.

oh.. ouch.

or that

Israel also had some huge accident with air carrier, about 70 soldiers killed.

6:57 PM
heavy smoke might have been from oil field fires

(not during any war though)

@ShadowWizard Oh. I was just about to ask as I didn't see it :P

@Tinkeringbell it wasn't during the Gulf War, just said it since it's related. :)
(so you couldn't see it)
Let's see if there's a wiki...

I was reading about the oil field fires ;) They were indeed what crashed the plane, @Journeyman. Also.... did anyone of you see in the news how the Swedes are putting out their forest fires?

@Tinkeringbell how?

7:03 PM
@ShadowWizard They dropped a bomb on one. The blast temporarily takes away all oxygen and the fire goes out :)

@shog9 there is something off with the synonym from into . It looks like Joe Friend created a synonym on Jul, 5th and a last rename was an hour ago but somehow those 426 questions keep the favorite-tags tag. I've edited one question and that got switched to the right tag instantly. Do you or Joe need to push an extra button? (credits for finding goes to @NogShine)

@Tinkeringbell takes fight fire with fire to a whole new level

@Dragonrage Yep. I personally must admit I am very fond of this approach :)
Just because well... bombs usually aren't a good thing, but this is amazing :D
(and probably cheaper than firefighters)

just have to make sure everyone is evacuated from the area

I get the impression this was a forest.... and if there's a fire going, I'm pretty sure people will be gone or ... not be leaving anymore

7:16 PM
ja.so gets a Summer (swag) campaign for those users who 1) ask the most questions, 2) answer the most questions, 3) accumulate the most votes on questions, and 4) accumulate the most votes on answers -- within July 30 to August 10!

@rene synonym != merge

@SomewhatMemorableName Hmmm... I'd personally never would've put up 1 and 2 as a goal :P But I guess question and answer bans are still a thing, so it shouldn't get too bad.

actually I wondered about that too, oh well... let the gamification begin...

@Shog9 Oh, the existing questions keep the tag until edited. Ok, make sense then.

The fluid adaptive design is cool, but it gets annoying when I visit a user profile, or get a 404
The damned horizontal scroll bar, I mean
And TBH, 125% or 150% zoom are the best for the eyes, and for the typography

7:26 PM
Em. won the 3rd ELL election, aaand.... look look, who posted the election result? :)

@SomewhatMemorableName Oh, oh! I know this one!
Abraham Lincoln

... ( ゚д゚)

7:42 PM
Wait, SE has paid positions? They don't just crowdsource everything?

...it's a for-profit company

My bad, I forgot my shouty-case context tags, <JOKING> and </JOKING>.

@Mithrandir Canon is never serious, even when he says "help call the police some animal is terrorizing the neighborhood"

8:18 PM
@Tinkeringbell huh. Smart!
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ he was serious in the past!

I once confused zalgo and "hidalgo", thus getting weird results from google ;-)
That assoc, appears pretty much at the end of the clip (that happy mexican band) :-D
