Really? Until recently, Shog hasn't posted much of anything... so I'm not sure what value his tweets are. :P

Well, he's the CM I've had the most interaction with ;p

Sure. Same for me... probably the same for a lot of people.

@rene don't think imgur should start checking and say "Sorry, you gave URL of a web page, please give URL of image". That's an overkill. It's good enough to check for valid image, and give errror when it's not.
Maybe add "check URL is valid image" on SE side though.

Closed Wikimedia projects are kept alive, but read-only. Example: simple.wikiquote.org

@rene me2
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog common sense for me: having it inside a file is much more cheap and simple than maintaining whole site, even if read only.

hm
I wish I could search through deleted posts
Maybe as a 30k privilege?

@TravisJ that was possible for a couple of days due to a bug 6 to 8 ago. It was awesome.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog It'd probably only be of much use on huge sites where the regular users don't necessarily recognize each other. I don't need rep to tell me who's high-rep on the sites I use... I just know the people.

8:58 PM
Which is why I asked on MSO rather than MSE

@TravisJ you can for your own, at 10k rep
Skimming through all deleted posts is too much power IMO.
You'll also be able to find anyone who deleted their account easily this way.
(I think)

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog Well... I don't use SO, so it doesn't really affect me if that's why you posted it there... so I don't really have strong feelings about it... and I don't actually know if it'd help there since the well-known users may still recognize each other without the rep.
@ShadowWizard Why? Deleted accounts don't cause posts to be deleted unless they're new and low-scoring, ... I think... I don't remember all the rules.

If the avatar is left in place, it'd be rather easy to recognize a number of users

Pretty much. Short of anonymyzing the posts entirely (which I really don't think would fly) either the username or avatar can tell you a lot.

but, anonymizing the rep alone may stop newer users from treating users differently based on rep, i just can't see it having any effect on more veteran users. And maybe that's not really a problem anyway

9:06 PM
I think that it depends on whether there's any info correlating rep/age of account/perceived niceness.
I mean... there are some pretty high rep/old users who I've seen post less than awesome things.

@Catija posts become anonymized, seen as posted by "user123456"

At least on SO, i don't come across very many mid to high rep users who are rude, but the ones i do stand out rather easily

@ShadowWizard But that doesn't tell you who posted it. Unless I'm missing what you're concerned about.

hmm... oh. lol, guess I'm more tired than I thought.

i mean... if you're gonna anonymize it THAT much, mightaswell not even display a user or allow comments

9:08 PM
Still... too much power to get access to all deleted posts.

9:32 PM
@ShadowWizard - I am more interested in looking at posts which probably shouldn't have been deleted than trying to figure out who deleted their account.

10Ks can see recently deleted questions in the tools menu, though.

Good point @Catija
I wish that list showed what the votes for the posts were

@TravisJ What do you mean?
Closure votes? Because all of the votes to delete were delete votes. :P

The question's vote count (net up/down)

You can still do that ... you just have to click on the post...
There's only so much that page can show... and, who knows what they'll change if they revamp it at some point.

10:02 PM
@Catija ... for every post...
And on Stack Overflow, monitoring what 100+ vote questions get deleted, that is a lot of work.

I try to be mindful of that these days

I was raised in Minnesota. I know "nice" like the back of my hand.
Well... The back of someone's hand.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog Why was I out last week... Oh, yeah... I was actually spending time with my family...
State motto of Texas is "friendship". :)

State motto of Oklahoma is "Labor omnia vincit", which is latin for "at least our motto has more than one word in it"

Isn't minnesota where the age of majority is 21?

...what?
oh, that's actually a real term
The age of majority is the threshold of adulthood as recognized or declared in law. It is the moment when minors cease to be considered such and assume legal control over their persons, actions, and decisions, thus terminating the control and legal responsibilities of their parents or guardian over them. Most countries set the age of majority at 18. The word majority here refers to having greater years and being of full age as opposed to minority, the state of being a minor. The law in a given jurisdiction may not actually use the term "age of majority". The term typically refers to a collection...
Here I thought you were suggesting that the median age for Minnesotans was 21

11:19 PM
heh

which... is a bit of a crazy thing to suggest

not entirely out of character for me

Anyway, I donno... You can vote at 18. Driving is a weird progression from <=16 to 18
Liquor is 21 like just about anywhere else

It's the other way around here in germany
Beer and light liquor is 16 and voting and driving is 18

I think there was a big thing about bumping the age for buying tobacco to 21 recently, but don't know much about it

11:21 PM
I think voting and drinking are nationally mandated.

it's... complicated

Although heavy liquor is still 18
We have a lot of formulas for minimum ages
For instance you can drive at 17 1/2 with a special procedure
And entering into contracts (e.g. buying something) has a weird means testing system and category based thresholds at 7, 14 and 18 iirc

driving is complicated too: you can get a farm license at 15, and a learner's permit at 16, but you can't get a full license 'til 18... That's MN (20+ years ago), and may be different now; it varies heavily by state.

Although I still don't have a drivers license with 23
so there's that

Oh, wow... you could get a learner's permit at 15 in Washington and full license at 16... Or... I could have... I didn't actually do those things until I was 17 because I didn't need to drive or have a car. (that was in the late 90s)

11:28 PM
heh... I was driving tractors, vans, other machinery by age 13, but didn't bother getting a license until 18.

Sounds like you had a very different upbringing then me

what, you didn't get lectured constantly for the first decade of your life about how a PTO could tear you apart if you weren't respectful of its personal space?

And you chastised me for being afraid of one of those spinning combine things...
farminjuryresource.com/atv-injuries/farming-injuries/… Second hit for "PTO farm equipment".

@Shog9 IIRC it was raised to 21 in California and Hawaii

to be fair, one doesn't normally stand next to the front of combines
while one might often be tasked with attaching / detaching PTOs

11:35 PM
No, they sneak up behind you and gobble you up.

...if you're a pocket gopher

Clearly, I'm a small, plush hippo.

...hey, we don't call it The Gopher State because there aren't regular appearances of traumatized gophers in cattle feed...

Traumatized or dead?

well, first one then the other

11:40 PM
:(

You gotta envy voles; they die from trauma before dying from everything else

I suppose that's probably "good riddance" in the farmers' minds.

pocket gophers aren't exactly a boon

Well, my only experience of them is from Caddyshack.
And I think that was a puppet gopher, not a pocket one.

11:44 PM
That's kinda cute.

Is it really true that frying lots of things in your kitchen can be bad for your house?

it is if you don't have an exhaust fan
or grease trap
...or any handy fire extinguishers

Is it really worth investing in an outdoor stove if you're running a home catering business of fried food?

it can also be bad for your health if you just stand there and inhale the aerosolized grease. But frankly, it's a small price to pay for the joy that is "bacon lung"
if you're running a home catering business, invest in an exhaust system w/ grease trap. No one with a business to run needs to waste that much time cleaning literally every surface
seriously. Imagine you're walking around your kitchen with an hplv spray gun filled with grease, happily coating every surface. Every day.
It's a mess.
those diners didn't go all-in on the stainless steel backdrops for the ambiance
back in the day...
Back in the day, they'd build "summer kitchens" - little outhouses w/ a stove for cooking & canning in the hotter months
maybe a cistern and some wash-up equipment too
Beats heating up the whole house
but... if you're not already hating yourself for that... It's a bit of a luxury
