Hello! This meta post mentions "A question with an accepted answer isn't as likely to receive further attention as one without an accepted answer.". I know that sounds just right, however, has there been actual statistical research into this? Do we actually know for sure that - on average - views on questions with quick accepted answers are less than - say half - of those with not quick accepted answers? Thanks!

Apparently I pocket-bought an audiobook... weird. Got notified of the purchase out of the blue... granted, it's the author narration for the book I had opened in Kindle app, but I haven't used the app all day.

user315433
Luckily, the book was Tenth of December so no real regrets. Changed Amazon password just in case.

@ShadowWizard a meta post, posted on the main site, migrated to meta, but then closed, thus got returned back to the main site. (the timestamp just to hide the obvious reference to the post, even though it's still findable manually)
@JourneymanGeek fair point

(Voluntarily deleted)
(I edited that FAQ with a section on own posts, accidentally created a second account, etc.)

3:44 AM
And heh. Very interesting voting spread on that. And I do think I need to clean up the question a little more.

@JourneymanGeek Shog once said that for Community deletions, it's important that users know and understand the specific criteria that caused their question to be Roomba'd.
Also, if a mod deleted one of my posts, I'd want to know from them why they deleted my post, as opposed to unsubstantiated speculation from other users. Remember my prior example of animuson deleting my positively-voted user215114 post?

4:00 AM
@JourneymanGeek One more thing that I'm concerned is: what if the OP brings it to meta asking about the detailed reason for the deletion? Sometimes other users can chime in to guess, but only the voters themselves know the reason. In the end, they have to declare they're the voters..?

@GaurangTandon sorry, no statistic, but I think "further attention" more-or-less means "users who only want to answer (to get rep)".... and some users do only care about non-accepted questions on their questions list.

@HTTPS I'm not actually worried about that since at that point they're clearly going through the proper channels and obvious trolls are obvious

One insidious way I used to get attention for bug reports in the age of anonymously editing: put "this is a known bug" into the FAQ

You can downvote without commenting (this is a known bug)

or a known feature.

@HTTPS I'd describe the bug in the FAQ, then link to the bug report with "this is a known bug" in the title. My hope was that others reading the FAQ (or reviewing my edits) would come across the bug report and get attention for it.

That's.... not the point of a FAQ
the point of a FAQ is to find common things people need.
Not point people at bug reports
:(

@HTTPS so why sad? Looks like typical off topic rant being closed, doesn't really matter where it was originally posted... those who migrated should have voted to close as off topic instead.
Since you don't want to share what question is was, can't really judge how bad it really is/was.
@TelKitty typo in folder name: should be "useful stuff for server admin".
@SurajJain be quick, their names will change soon enough. ;)

@ShadowWizard You edited the duplicate links; that requires a Chaos Emerald.

@SonicWizard oh, you mean that, lol... yup.

@ShadowWizard that's why I don't like to share screenshots in public or self made apps with friends - someone somewhere ... will find a misspell somewhere :'(

@TelKitty that they find it is not the problem ... the urge to tell you about it is ...

My device requires swiping the screen to open it, so far didn't happen while inside my pocket.

And still never owned a device with finger print scanner, I'm bit behind. lol

OP's face rec is fast
hm
I tend to buy 'nicer' phones lately so the last two have had em

@JourneymanGeek since I consider phone as device for making calls, mainly, and maybe have some fun as the secondary target, I don't spend much money on that, and buy the cheap models.

@ShadowWizard heh, I use mine as an internet box mainly

I find it much easier doing from computer.
@TelKitty so don't share.... or remove everything but the relevant part of the screenshot.... ;)

Hi @JourneymanGeek. I thought that (or ) and perhaps might be suitable for your question: Could we hide who deleted a post from normal users?
I thought that maybe instead of editing the tags into your question and seeing how they are subsequently edited further, I might as well ask here. (Since you've been active in chat recently.)

heh. Thanks for the consideration. And yes, those look appropriate - other than revision history

BTW is there a separate tag for that big banner which appears under closed/deleted posts, explains reason for closure and lists the close voters?

I have no idea. I kinda suck at tags and just throw the bare minimum I neeed

I've mentioned revision history because it is one of the places where delete voters are displayed (and so is ). But probably those tags not needed here.

ah
I was specifically thinking of the one under a deleted posts
I've had 3-4 people turn up on my blog asking about stuff I did on SU, and quite a few were abusive :(
Alsom deleted-answers would be appropriate here

8:52 AM
So the proposal is only to remove the delete voters from the banner, not from revision history and timeline?

Most of these were answers
tbh, I didn't even think about those

I see.
Probably it might be good to clarify that in the question.

hmm
anyone can see the revision history on their own posts, right?
and timeline?

When I read that proposal is to "hide who deleted the post", I naturally thought of the usual places where I see such things. (Especially if the post was undeleted in the meantime, I can only see deleted voters in history/timeline.)

for some reason I'm thinking timeline as something mod only

8:55 AM
I think everybody can see history/timeline of any posts which is not deleted. And probably of their own deleted posts.
Well, it's true that moderators see more things in the timeline than regular users do. (And maybe in revision history too...?)

lemme check
a bit more, and the UI is more obvious
ah looks like it
but looks like little/no difference between mod and 10k views

A moderator mentioned to me this in chat: "I can see flags and reviews, but not deleted comments (on the timeline)." Certainly regular users do not see flags.

true, but I'm not really too worried a mod will start trolling me ;p

From another moderator: "Yes, individual close votes only appear in the moderator timeline, not in the public one."

or a experienced user

8:59 AM
Yes, that was just reaction to little/no difference between mod an 10k views.

I can see who closevoted in the 10k views
(or on the site proper)
and so far, maybe I'm short sighted, but I'd rather have closevoters visible - its an essential part of how the site runs

I see who deleted/undeleted on the timeline even when I am not logged in. So I guess this is accessible to any user who can see the question.
The same is true for revision history. And also for close/reopen voters.

@JourneymanGeek noted...

Wait... Even when you're not logged in? Oo

9:04 AM
Of course, on a question which is not deleted.

Ah. I do mean one that is currently deleted

I think that the revision history/timeline looks the same for all non-diamond users. (Assuming they can see the question - so 10k comes into play only if the question is deleted.)

@SmokeDetector k

Or you have a question or answer.

@JourneymanGeek That was my point, that OPs should be excluded to see who closed / deleted it.

9:10 AM
I kinda agree that is one option.

The question was migrated yesterday to worlbuilding meta. Now it appears as on hold at MSE, but if you click it you see the worldbuilding meta 404 page.

@πάνταῥεῖ bug??? " receive general ideas for a university curriculum in a school"... just some off topic crap, nothing uncommon to MSE. No idea why it's not downvoted.
Downvoted, when it reach -3 will vote to delete.
@πάνταῥεῖ of course, they closed/deleted that crap from there.

@ShadowWizard Sure, but why does it still appear at the MSE main page?

@πάνταῥεῖ no sure what you mean?

I think the OP deleted that question from WB meta, so it probably counted as a rejected migration

Closed questions always appear there.

Lol. Tell me about it.

9:30 AM
Anyway.... think SE staff shouldn't bother migrating those away.

Well, the whole thing looks a bit weird for me. It shouldn't appear anymore at the MSE main page.

Maybe SO-only meta stuff to MSO, but not other sites.

@ShadowWizard As mentioned it was migrated to WB.meta yesterday.

@πάνταῥεῖ why not? I really fail to see your logic. It was migrated to other site. Deleted on that other site, which caused the migration to fail, hence making it become closed but unlocked and not deleted on the original site where it was asked. Kind of back to square 1.
This is a good feature, so wrong migrations won't cause the question to vanish.
I think the migration "stub" (the question on the original site) is auto deleted after 30 days, so if the target question is deleted after 30 days, you're correct and it will be 404 on both sites. @πάνταῥεῖ

> Please feed me back

The question asked how to avoid chat (which is impossible), and the answer is to make a feature-request that allow OP to delete their messages once moved to the chat (which is a fair request, and I support it)

@SonicWizard sorry, that wasn't my motive, and I am not sure how you inferred that. In fact, before asking here, I didn't know if this is even possible. Google didn't help, so I just thought of asking in here, if there has been discussion of this fact in the past.
@HTTPS hmm right. But that statement (in that meta post) does seem to very broad (at least to me) to be applicable to even a majority of the 173 SE sites there are

@HTTPS well, my answer was partly motivated by the misconceptions in the first couple of comments on the question. I thought starting with a bold statement to get peoples attention would work. In that sense my answer worked well I guess.

@JourneymanGeek The Charcoal project wants feedback from Taverners as to whether or not the feature to self-delete SmokeDetector messages upon replying to them as "fp" should be kept or removed. Would you mind pinning another message containing a link to a Google Form explaining the choices? Here's the GitHub issue: github.com/Charcoal-SE/SmokeDetector/issues/2011

@SonicWizard if you can write that as a nicely formatted pinnable post sure
preferably in the next 5 minutes cause I'm going to bed

@Journey I'll pin your personal up-times for me now ;-)

One reason why FP is usually removed ASAP because... compared to TP, users more often respond with FP to non-spammy/rude posts, adding more (unnecessary) feedback. Well, I don't think there's a problem "pile-on" responses. But that's just me
The delay to 2 1.9 minutes before self-delete is a fair request though (give buffer in case of slow network)

Q: What exactly is functional programming? What makes a paradigm functional?

NawazI was reading an interview with Jose Valim, the creator Elixir programming language.. .and at one point where Jose attempts to define functional programming, I'm stuck as I feel Jose is talking about something exactly opposite to functional paradigm (especially the bold text in the below answer):...

functional programming is... when the program functions well -_-
