@Stijn Are you lurking here or something?

10:17 AM
@Ano sometimes, why?
I got a notification for the duplicate vote of you ;)

Ano
@Stijn Because you quickly used the OP-hammer less than a minute after I RC flagged your question. I was wondering if it was because you saw the chat message above.

bad freehand circle, i know :p

@Stijn at least it is a closed "circle" not a sloppy one with open ends ...

Ano
10:44 AM
@rene Mine are touchscreen-drawn

@Stijn it is good, looks like my own circles! ;)
@Derpy that's... bugged.

morning. Just a quick question. Anyone actually got a reply / feedback after using the contact us button on the site in the last year? I know they are pretty busy, but lately it seems that all my messages end up in limbo.

(always return null for first call)

@Derpy they tend to be ... fairly delayed

@Derpy yes, I got a reply

10:50 AM
@ShadowWizard actually checked it... it is a bit more complex than that. Due to some "try-catch-return null" mess there are some specific cases where the first call will always trigger a silent error and return null but the successive ones won't.

Ano
@Derpy I just got a reply yesterday for an email I sent on January 20.

@rene lucky you. If I may be forgiven my curiosity, what did you ask them?

@Derpy I submitted 2 contact us tickets in august / september last year and I haven't heard back from either
I think they're both assigned to shog right now so that makes sense

@Derpy I had a follow up on an earlier resolved security issue.

@Magisch I still haven't got any feedback on a "please burinate offensive posts" that I had to escalate to them after some user-level "mod" decided that calling persons mentally ill is fine due to room policy... I think that may be over 6 month old by now, maybe a year?

10:54 AM
ow

@Derpy sounds like Microsoft

(that said, I think the last one I did ended up being something I could sort out myself, and the other is slightly complex - and there might be a related meta post ;p)

@Derpy I will take it as a "thanks for your concern, but we don't deal with such things" reply.

@ShadowWizard eh, maybe not my place to say, but that's the sort of thing that ought to be handled officially, and decisively

@ShadowWizard if that is the case, I think the appropriate answer is this:
Also know as "I am leaving, thanks. Can I have the bill?"

11:29 AM
@Derpy or FWIW, meta post? But I'm singaporean, I complain about everything I can

@ShadowWizard could also be that they're just busy
@Derpy Link?
I'm curious now

11:46 AM
@Magisch I would prefer to not fuel any further discussion on that post. It's pretty old, and since getting it removed seem impossible, getting it forgotten is the next best option.

Why has nothing caught them yet?
18 days of clear an unmistakeable serial voting

I know the script is very conservative but come on

@Magisch I think our mod tools would PROBABLY work for things like that. Custom Mod flag?

@JourneymanGeek One of 145 pending ones I have rn on SO

Is this a good way to reduce the widespread effect of bad review audits: to simply not use a given post as an audit again for other users if someone fails an audit on it?

Use the contact us button! It's faster...

.... Not.

@Derpy I'm pretty sure that'd be about a day before I get banned for spamming their ticket system
@JourneymanGeek I think it's about 65-70 a week on SO

12:25 PM
heh that's probably a half week's worth of flags for me ;p

@JourneymanGeek This week I'm catching up because I didn't do any the last 2 weeks
So I'm out of flags on SO today and have 117 left to go before I'm caught up with 2 weeks ago

Is glitch.com preemptively blocked (This IP address (52.55.193.207) has been blocked from access to our services.) or was my GET call the bloody limit?
Oh, maybe because the user agent is empty ...

@Ano not many changes in 2018. Think I added most in 2017. Will take a look soon.

Q: Connect an AirPrint Canon MP237 printer to a Wi-Fi?

GrethaniaHow to connect an AirPrint service from Canon MP237 printer to a Wi-Fi? I do not understand the steps given from canon support in consumer products guide. Does it require canon mp237 driver software to be able to use it so that the Canon Airprint service can be used? Thanks....

Given how blatantly off-topic the question is, how fast the answer showed up, and how faster it's accepted, as well as previous MS records about the site, I strongly suspect it's spam.

Yup. Nuked by Mr. b

SE team , I filed a security issue in which I believe the impact is critical. Can someone please look into it asap and check it's impact internally?

6-8 months

I'm sure it won't be a 6-8 years.

you can hope

No hope

Hope or hope not. There is no do.

6:16 PM
@Optimus note that without ping, good chance nobody from SE team will ever notice your above message.

I hope they won't respond like facebook security team
@ShadowWizard whom should I ping on this?

@OptimusPrime Shog is the easiest to ping IMO.
Then he can pass it on to the proper team.

That's a 50-50 chance. Either he do that or kick me
Whatever it is. I am going to ping

Just beware @bluefeet who usually protects Shog from useless pings.... ;-)

@Sha, anyway I am pinging @Shog to notify this

Hey now he will blame me for the ping! 😡

@Shog9 Here's a potential security issue: Queries on data.stackexchange.com can display the age of users (so much for "Private information (not shown publicly)"). Example: data.stackexchange.com/meta.stackexchange/query/805547?ID=811

@JennaSloan age had been on the network profile till last year IIRC
I'm IP blocked atm so I can't search for the MSE post about removing it

Well for some reason age isn't displayed on profiles

@rene How did you get IP blocked?

6
Q: Where did the age go on the network profile?

MithrandirEver since the profile redo, the age was shown in the network profile, but not in the per-site profiles. So if someone wanted to see the age, they had to go to the network profile. However.. It's vanished! The field is still there in the profile editing, however. It doesn't appear as if this was ...

Q: Isn't it time to remove the age from network profile?

Shadow WizardSince the big profile makeover about two years ago, age is no longer displayed on user profiles. However, it's still visible in the network profile: I can't see any point leaving it there when it's removed from all site profiles. Can it please be removed from the network profile as well?

Seems a bit odd that the FR that caused the change is closed as a dupe of a support question?
Removed it from Area 51 as well, good catch. It is still in the SE Data Dump because people use those for larger scale data analysis. — Michael Stum ♦ Apr 12 '17 at 0:17

7:48 PM
So the only purpose of age is for data aggregation?

@Catija I was trying to find a review but that kicks off my review consensus userscript and then I opened a second tab to find a review in another queue, kicking off my review consensus userscript and then ... I was blocked ...

oops.

It is not that I don't know: meta.stackexchange.com/a/251508/158100 (see the bold text near the end)
In the meta newsletter the small avatar of Shog9 is not a floating head

8:32 PM
@JourneymanGeek but the way is formed, it feels as though anyone saying yes or no will be equally right
Examples and stuff would make it more convincing, but not more right

@rene Ian's is wrong, too.

@Catija yeah, saw that. I try to find a bug report on MSE

Haven't seen anything about that... but balpha's and Glorfindel's are fine... so it's interesting.
I don't get any email from SE.

I have a gmail that I check every solar event and I subscribed for a couple of sites when I was a noob
So I probably have 1000 unread emails from SE there
10000 with logarithmic exaggeration

@Catija I miss that feature. Now I have to do math to figure out my age. (I wish I was kidding about this.)

8:38 PM
@Catija I've asked Monica to check hers: meta.stackexchange.com/q/306533/158100

@JonEricson I have only experienced 19 age numbers, and I have a hard time keeping track of it
I feel you

@JonEricson Feel free to bookmark this, for your ease of memory. :D

@JonEricson maybe counting down is easier for us ... :(

@rene I can confirm that hers is broken, too.

Panda in her second screenshot does not have a default avatar on Writing.

Q: How many words/hour should you aim for when writing your first draft?

PandaA couple of axioms here. Firstly, most people agree that you should write your first draft quickly, without too much care on quality, and get something down on paper first. The real writing begins with the second draft. This is the approach that most writing books try to teach, and I'm taking ...

hmm, OK

I am confused, though... the questions in those emails are all really old?

@Catija Wait. 45? That's wrong. I'm 44 years, 2 month and 4 weeks old.

@JonEricson Uh oh...
Looks like it rounds up. :/
Mine's wrong, too. HAHA.

Hmmm.. 4 weeks. That's another month. I'm using the Numi calculator and I've never tried date math before.

8:45 PM
I'm a month and two days short of my next birthday.

Ok. Now I'm onboard removing it. Always round down ages.

FR: Fix age in SEDE to round down instead of up.

@Catija post it
I'll be happy to probably forget to upvote

It should be round to nearest - otherwise you could trivially identify birthdays

@Shog9 Well, Jon's is rounding up and he's only about three months in... so it's not even doing that right.
Anyway, if it switches at the 6 month mark and you know that it does so, you can figure it out, still.
But, if SEDE only updates weekly, you still have a few days of give and take.

8:58 PM
actually, round to nearest would still be too reliable.
Wonder if we throw a random value in there somewhere

0-50 for each user sort of thing?

Roll 1d100 to determine age.

And delete users when it comes up <13.

I keep getting V1 unsupported when I hit capchas in SEDE.

@JonEricson Genius

9:02 PM
Um... yeah, until you delete Staff.

Well, that's how it felt last fall. :-(

:(

Quick! Someone think of a happier topic.
@TylerH: Well, you can see where we are headed by reading between the lines of this post. I expect there to be another post in a week or two. Actual rollout is going to be a while so we can get in some testing with users. (Also, the design is not settled yet.) — Jon Ericson ♦ 11 secs ago
There we go.

I just found an obscure bug in NLua which was supposedly fixed four years ago. #notmyfault Where does that fall on your happy index?

off-scale

9:12 PM
undefined? lol

@JonEricson if you have a sec, I have something less happy... :/

@Catija What's up?

@JonEricson I'll ping you in the IPS mod room?

See you there.

Nice, secretive.
eavesdropping
Ahan. Ahan, uhumm, hmmhm

9:15 PM
heh, ok, unfortunately the age thing in SEDE / data dump isn't because it's being clever
it's that old SQL DateDiff issue

I had such a great question title, though: SEDE is causing premature aging!

have an upvote ...

Maybe ask everyone to change birth date to a year later?

been reported a few times already
This is broken again, e.g. select age from users where id = 2 on MSO shows you as 35. — Rup Mar 16 '12 at 13:53

Q: 'Age' field in data explorer is inconsistent with main site

Richard J. Ross IIIThis appears to be a re-occurrence (or it never was fixed) of this bug: Age calculations are wrong in the data dump export Basically, when running a Data.SE query, the age field seems to be always off by one, for example: select id as [User Link], age from Users Where displayna...

@M.A.R. Earlier, if you want it to be correct... it's rounding up.

9:20 PM
Essentially, it's counting the number of year boundaries that have been crossed since you were born

@Catija oh, right

wow

@canon another bug?
Or is SEDE so wowsome?

Knowing how old people are is daunting.

I have white hair

9:25 PM
I think you missed an article in there :P

OK
I the have white hair

No, the behavior of datediff

That number seems significant

it's my age in milliseconds
or was

That'd be changing pretty frequently...

9:29 PM
:P
yeah, it's a pretty volatile metric... until it's not.

@Shog9 So it actually does prevent people from knowing anyone's birthday at the cost of being off by a year about half the time.

@canon that was so dark. I need to light a candle

@JonEricson Yes. Of course, the API does the correct calculation, so if you wanted to know the birthdate of a specific individual / subset of individuals, you could just poll it daily until it changes.
Which ain't great.

But does that update daily? I thought SEDE only updated on Sundays.

WTH was the newest question

9:32 PM
the API updates more or less constantly
(not necessarily linearly though - sometimes the featured tag query retrieves results from the future or the past)

So it might take up to a year to know for sure. But even eliminating dates on the way gives some information that could be useful. :-(

Just try to have at least one inaccurate piece of PII: name, location or birthday

@M.A.R. I'm nothing if not a roiling font of darkness.

Firing canon
You don't seem so black to me

Well, lots of people don't use their real names... and many don't use a location.
