@Catija we clearly need to chain Tim's keys to his wrist. Then he loses his wrist and we are all doomed
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog the fact that they were anonymous was likely part of the problem :p

@JourneymanGeek Yeah, that's likely since before the HTTPS changeover no one suspected it's the same editor making all those edits

3:04 AM
In Russia, the keys lost Tim.
I almost never got my edit suggestion rejected when I clearly wrote "incorporate OP's comment on the question" on the edit summary.
("almost", since I couldn't remember if my suggestion got rejected for other reasons)

3:28 AM
One time @ShadowtheHedgehog remarked here that "we need the anonymous editor to fix this post"...I saw that message and submitted an edit to that post, saying in the edit summary that "I've been summoned by Shadow to fix this"...the edit was approved.
I also made a few anonymous edits to Travel, one was to fix another anonymous edit that added in a comment into a post (which made no sense as an edit). At the time, the suggested edits queue there had too many Eggman's-mech-reviewers.
@Catija By the way, my edit to add the tag to your question was approved by a CM

Still not a feature request.

@Catija Not a support question either...

Not a CM :P
But uh. Yeah, perhaps not a feature request as such. Either FR or bug is fine, IMO.

@AdamLear In 2013 you were...

CM ... a cat's master? Cats have no masters though, only staff

3:42 AM
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Sure. That's 5 years ago. ;)

@AdamLear That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. In all seriousness, though, I'll remember to refer to you as a dev next time

It doesn't bother me much or anything, more like I don't want to set expectation that I really know what I'm doing when it comes to community stuff these days.
Er, not that I ever did, necessarily, but that's beside the point. =)

I'm relapsing. Back at that time I called you a mod (mod -> CM). Now I called you a CM (CM -> dev).
@AdamLear Also, at that time, your overall...identity...was different

Heh, sure.
On that note, I'm gonna call it a night here and step away from meta. Y'all have a great weekend.

@AdamLear Your username was different, your user profile was filled with cats...

3:49 AM
Hey, it's got a cat now.

@AdamLear Goodnight

> As a member of the University community, an email account has been created for you in our Google Apps for Education domain.

user315433
Is this stuff considered normal nowadays?

user315433
The way I read it, it asserts that an email account is a member of the University community.

user315433
But I see this construction so often that it seems that connecting "As a X" to anything in the sentence has become optional.

@if.... Dangling modifier
It's a bona fide grammar mistake.

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog it modifies "you", which is in the main sentence

5:40 AM
@JohnDvorak No, a modifier must have its antecedent (thing being modified) adjacent to it.
Also known as a "misplaced modifier"

OWL says "A dangling modifier is a word or phrase that modifies a word not clearly stated in the sentence"

@JohnDvorak How about "misplaced modifier"?

"misplaced modifier" is a correct description

"As a member of the University community, you now have an email account in our Google Apps for Education domain."
@if.... Try emailing that to them, and let them know they have a misplaced modifier.
You have an email account now, after all

actually... webapps.towson.edu/ows/moduledangling.htm includes these under the "dangling modifier" header
ELU question?

5:46 AM
@JohnDvorak Definitely

Wikipedia says "A dangling modifier[1] is an ambiguous grammatical construct, whereby a grammatical modifier could be misinterpreted as being associated with a word other than the one intended or with no particular word at all. "

bit of an impertinent thing to wonder but I wonder how a [blind person ](meta.stackexchange.com/questions/306269/…) knows a [photo of a clock is even a clock ](meta.stackexchange.com/questions/306280/…)

He was the one taking the photo

but how does a blind person take a photo?
My spelling and markdowning is terrible today

point the camera in roughly the right direction and press the shutter button? I don't expect perfect framing, but having the item in the frame shouldn't be too hard.
It might be worth asking them

but it seems impolite
and their webpage indicates they're totally visually impaired.

Should merge stubs be automatically deleted?

6:54 PM
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog as far as I know they're not

Nope, they can be kept, they don't hurt

@rene On SU I was doing tag cleanup and I saw a merge stub using a tag we were trying to remove. I flagged it saying it was locked and linked to the relevant cleanup post on MSU, and it was declined saying that such a merge stub should just be deleted.

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog well, what can I say? The mod is wrong? A bit of a silly reason to decline a flag because you can't delete it either. What do those SU mods want? Explain exactly what you want them to click on? If so, we need screenshots and/or key shortcuts.

@rene Probably because it wasn't possible to supply a reason for marking a flag helpful at the time?

7:05 PM
How far back in the human history are we talking about?

Actually, looking up the exact flag, it said it should just be deleted, instead of unlocked and edited, @rene. Presumably the mod forgot that mods can edit locked posts

I know it's late at night there, but can an Indian user please confirm if Internet Archive (archive.org) is still blocked in India? I saw a news article saying it was blocked.
