oh, how can you find out? SEDE query?

@Stijn You really can't... but you can make educated guesses based on views and votes.

It's great to have two laptops: for home and office, less stuff to carry. But where one has Delete key, the other has Power key.

user202362
2 is better than 1 but not as good as 3 or more

user202362
all I need are cloneable portable, click in and play harddisks ... and compatible devices ...

user202362
I can share display, mouse, keyboard and speakers ... even CPUs

3:18 AM
Can I please see the relevant CV queue item for meta.stackexchange.com/questions/304285/what-is-the-chicken? I cast a helpful recommend closure flag, but it wasn't closed.

user315433
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Nothing wrong with that. It means someone, likely a reviewer, cast a close vote with the same reason that you cast the flag. That marks your flag helpful; job well done. The question may still need more close votes to reach 5, however.

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog currently only has 3 close votes

user315433
There is no reason to keep the flag unresolved, though - it served its purpose already.

@if.... Yes, but I also want to see if it's been dequeued with three "Leave Open" reviews.

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog oh, "leave open"ed by diamond mod

3:24 AM
@SensibleAlexander It was? Link please?

what kind of questions would it be filled of?

which country has the fattest police force?

@TelautonomousKitty USA? Donut and pizza?

I have a guess. I'll only say that their national animal is an eagle.

user202362
I remember seeing a bunch of high BMI police chasing an equally chubby criminal once ... and it wasn't in the USA

now what is this?

user315433
My current haircut kind of matches.

@SmokeDetector What a title. And unfortunately it matches the question. Flagged Q too broad, A spam.

Another sad thing about that site is that spam answers are not much worse than regular ones.

@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard seems that SE currently has its own share of problems. I don't think it is a coincidence that you got "almost no April Fool Easter egg", the laid-offs and recycled hat the same year. Obviously, they can't make fun a priority right now, nor they can spend much time devising hats triggers. And obviously too, I can't blame them.

@TelautonomousKitty I heard they flew, though :(

The southern cassowary (Casuarius casuarius) also known as double-wattled cassowary, Australian cassowary or two-wattled cassowary, is a large flightless black bird. It is a ratite and therefore related to emu, ostrich, and the Rhea and Kiwi genera. (See also dwarf cassowary and northern cassowary.) == Taxonomy == Presently, most authorities consider the southern cassowary monotypic, but several subspecies have been described. It has proven very difficult to confirm the validity of these due to individual variations, age-related variations, the relatively few available specimens (and the bright...

only a short distance from where you claim to live

"Funny" as in "strange", yeah...

@Derpy well, that is probably true.

8:59 AM
All countries should ban this thing.
It's one huge bubble, on the verge of scam.

user202362
well, if we are talking about scams, a lot of finance firms, tech & pharmaceutical companies are too - rope in a lot of investors money without creating anything useful

user202362
humans are doomed under capitalism

user202362
that's not saying other industries are not, but I don't know other industries well so I can't comment

user202362
humans can continue to make useless innovations so a small group of people can become super rich until the day catastrophe hits and everyone will be equally dead

user202362
like that tank of fish when a drop of poison hits

9:13 AM
@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard usual gray law area used to abuse the system.
@TelautonomousKitty still claiming that the Adventure Time clip with Jake explaining how laws came into existence is pretty on topic. But I won't link it after someone comments from the last time I did..

Heh, next time, you won't comment after someone comments from the last time you did..

@SensibleAlexander I don't even think that shadowy guy had notice I was talking about him :P

@Shog9 Is MSE supposed to have 24 or 50 close votes per day, per user? It looks like it was extended to 50 on April 20, 2016, with the intent to reduce it back to 24, but that didn't happen.

Attention CES Attendees: if you find a demonstration with a laser, say an engraver without an enclosure, please ask the booth staff for their FDA Variance for Public Display. If they cannot provide this, inform them that what they are doing is illegal and inform LVCC staff.

Do they engrave mirror?

^ back in the day when laser pointer became a fashion trend, most of them where completely capable to cause eye damage if used incorrectly and pointed at someone face.
I personally know a person that lost about 2 diopter thanks to a coworker that was toying with a laser pointer.
Nowadays, they are considered illegal where I live and shops shouldn't sell them.
they are still sold.
and smart guys still toys with them.
especially teacher in many universities, despite multiple reports of incidents and sometime severe punishment of infringements
Need to say more? Planet Earth, as always.

(or, waiting it to appear on Skeptics.SE)

10:45 AM
DO NOT LOOK AT LASER WITH REMAINING EYE!

Huh? Which remaining eye?
This eye?

11:07 AM
@Derpy I don't have close-as-off-topic hammer... nor a delete hammer.
@Derpy this, and counting on people to trust other people who tell them "Hey, you can make tons of money with this!"
(without anyone of them really know even tiny bit about it)

11:20 AM
@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard still, is a consequence of the way the world spins. Thanks to the ongoing corruption in the world, a money system "free from banks and government taxes and theft" is the right solution in the eyes of many persons.
Which is somehow ironically since all these currency are also built to be untrackable.
Which very well fit them being used for all the corruption we were talking about before.

11:36 AM
@SmokeDetector only picks, you say?

12:00 PM
Pick your pick!

12:31 PM
@Derpy Thats nonsense. Bitcoin is completely trackable, even when using mixers

@Magisch can you easily track who made a payment and who received the money?

@Derpy more easily then some bank transactions, if thats what you mean
sure bitcoin is decent from the standpoint that a bank can't revert the payment if fraud is discovered, and the wallets can be somewhat anonymous, but still

@Derpy exactly. All in the name of "Protecting the sacred privacy" and "Starting a new era of money". Better go back to trading sheeps instead.

A Bank transaction details is not available to public but a bitcoin tran. details are

12:47 PM
@OptimusPrime so you can see the name and address of the hackers who locked your files and demanded a payment in bitcoin to unlock them? That's so cool.

@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard No, but you can trace on which wallet the bitcoin you paid eventually ends up

@Magisch and this gives you..... totally nothing.
You can't track the real person behind it.
Hence, that's ideal for criminals.

Law enforcement can

unless the hacker wants to never spend their bitcoin on anything that is trackable
It only works that way if you never ever create an association between wallet and user ... which is very hard if you want to actually use the money for something

12:49 PM
Recently the banks associations and Cyber cell of police dept. implemented a new mechanism to prevent fraud (well it is just a method / way). Many people got calls from fraudsters saying they won lottery or something like that and wants to tell them the OTP they received in mobile. and then they lost the money from their account. In such case, the team (mentioned above) decided to delay certain transactions upto 1 hour and created a whatsapp account for this.

If you lost the money in that way, simply send the full details to the whatsapp number within 1 hour and the money will not be sent
So, the bank can revert it
well... sort of
@Magisch they have to check the bitcoin exchange for that
When the value of BTC crossed 10Lakh INR, the income tax dept. raided all bitcoin exchanges in India recently and send notice to thousands of people who invested in BTC and didn't paid tax yet

the bitcoin blockchain is public record

I don't know if I should be relieved that I don't play cryptocurrency at all...
My work colleagues are too active in this thingy... and suddenly 1 of them didn't come to work since 3 days ago, the day where a certain currency "crashed"

@SensibleAlexander crashed?? lol... those things keep crashing then rising again in 1000000%, all in same day or week. It's beyond silly.

user202362
@SensibleAlexander shining eye powered water pumping system, only available in Mordor!

@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard I dunno, I only read recent news like, BitCoin lost 30% last month, then 12% recently

1:01 PM
@SensibleAlexander but it gained like 100000%, from $1 to $20000 or so.
(in few months)

user202362
people do a lot stupid things, let's not acting like it's new

@TelautonomousKitty but in such masses? That's rare.

user202362
hey, people win lottery

and there's always alkaline water

user202362
by maths, lottery has an expected pay off way less than 100%

user202362
1:04 PM
yet, there are still people becoming multi-millionaire through winning lottery

@TelautonomousKitty Isn't it 1:140million or something?
Lottery is called the stupid tax for a reason

user202362
Yet, a small percentage of stupid people becoming super rich, it isn't fair, is it? But life isn't about fairness ...

@TelautonomousKitty If we're talking about fairness then no, but life is never fair in general

It won't be fair when millions of people will lose millions of dollars when bitcoin will crash for good and vanish from the world. It's not "if", just "when".

That one guy who was born in the slums of uganda and died of some tropic disease before he was 20 probably would want a word with just about everyone else about what would be fair...

1:07 PM
Congrats @jadarnel27! You came to brag about @jadarnel28? ;)

1:37 PM
Unceasingly. jadarnel28 is better than the average baby. There, I said it. She's also really cute.

@jadarnel27 and bit brown?

BROWN

Haha

JavaScript UI frameworks and libraries work in cycles. Every six months or so, a new one pops up, claiming that it has revolutionized UI development. Thousands of developers adopt it into their new projects, blog posts are written, Stack Overflow questions are asked and answered, and then a newer (and even more revolutionary) framework pops up to usurp the throne.

Using the Stack Overflow Trends tool and some of our internal traffic data, we decided to take a look at some of the more prominent UI frameworks: Angular, React, Vue.js, Backbone, Knockout, and Ember. …

@Feeds The Brutal Lifecycle of Bitcoin

heh, this Trends tool surely gives endless supply to the data miners working for SO.

2:31 PM
Looks like the curious moment is going to happen soon, I believe Jon Skeet finally getting to 1M repz Jan 17

SO might break

Stack Overflow might occur!

Reputation Overflow

Forecast for Jan 17: on Stack Overflow a stack overflow will occur due to Jon Skeet reaching 1M repz
Remember my words!

@Catija you're a moderator on IPS, can you maybe check out this user? He joined 9 days ago, just to post two questions which tell "catchy" stories that attracts lots of sympathy. There are some holes, e.g. in the first he says he moved 18 months ago, yet in the second he says he's working in same place for 4.5 years, and doesn't even mention having a girlfriend which is a big factor in that case. [cont...]
That user also never posted a single comment. Something there is fishy.
IMO good chance both stories are just that, made up stories, written just to get virtual points and fame.

2:52 PM
A question to ponder: how many highly-upvoted questions on IPS are genuinely useful to other than OP, or just only interesting due to HNQ?

@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard probably

@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard migrate to writers.stackexchange.com

3:13 PM
@SensibleAlexander All of them.

Yeah, should be "instead of" instead of "or" -_-

@Derpy Again...? I think the internet will explode on January 2018
yesterday, by Sensible Alexander
I have a problem connecting to Github and Cloudfare...

3:41 PM
@SensibleAlexander I can't say I would be completely sad if that is the case...
soon or later we will need to completely reset "Internet" as it is currently and start again from scratch

"Back to Dark Age"... as JC Denton chose.

@Catija so nothing you can/should do about it?
@Derpy flagging
@SensibleAlexander less than 1%

@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard There probably is but... right now I'm not in a great mood and I don't really need to make it better by doing something drastic like nuking two 50+ questions with 100+ answers.

@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard @Catija there's a bit of precident but people posting clickbait's always tricky

@Catija not nuking, more like warning the user at this point. He'll probably won't stop, at least until posting something that won't become popular.
Can I ask why bad mood? @Catija (lack of response will be perfectly fine in this case too... ;))
@JourneymanGeek there are many who use clickbait titles on purpose, but with actual questions/problems... those are fine IMO.

3:53 PM
@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard more the post itself
there was a series of improbable posts on workplace sometimes back

but when the whole story/problem/question is one bit clickbait... that's not really good.

likewise on travel

So it better be stopped, if possible.
status-eating-Haman-ear
/cc @Mithrandir
You already ate one this year?

3:56 PM
EAR EATERS!

@JourneymanGeek om nom nom

Well, those ears belonged to really, really evil man. He totally deserves to have his ears eaten. :D

@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard I was up late dealing with stuff on IPS that I wish I could have dealt with weeks ago...

4:00 PM
And the best part, he was stopped by a woman. ;)
@Catija oh.. but there are other mods... no?

@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard YOU DON'T KNOW WHERE HIS EARS HAVE BEEN!

@JourneymanGeek but I do know what's inside them. And it's tasty! :D
(right now: halva)

tica
wait, wrong spelling...

Halva (halawa, alva, haleweh, halava, helava, helva, halwa, halua, aluva, chalva, chaƂwa) is any of various dense, sweet confections served across the Middle East, South Asia, Central Asia, West Asia, the Caucasus, North Africa, the Horn of Africa, the Balkans, Central Europe, Eastern Europe, Malta and the Jewish diaspora. In some Indian cultures, the dish is known as a soup-based sweet. Identical sweets exist in other countries, such as China, though these are not generally referred to as "halva". In global, popular usage it means "desserts" or "sweet", and describes two types of desserts: Flour...

indian halva is basically sweetened paste ;p
@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard kinky chap, sticking sweet confections in his ears...
unless he's been cursed to have tasty earwax

4:03 PM
@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard .......

@Derpy ears are public body parts.... no reason to get alarmed.
@JourneymanGeek probably!

@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard clearly visible ears, restults in public ear eating...

@Derpy A while ago actually I wanted to post that I just read a manga that explains that HERO is basically H+ERO, but decided not to...

and its a slippery slope down morality hill

4:07 PM
Poor Andrew... is this a first? :D

@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard Heh, I believe more than 3 ;p

4:21 PM
@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard I probably said that before, but fell free to start tracking stats for this.
After all, you are still tracking WAG most used words stats, so just consider this a side project.

@Derpy actually... neglected WAG stats for loooong time now. Lost the code to be honest. o_o
Will have to start from scratch, just... can't find the time.

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog never got reverted, probably because that flood lasted a lot, lot longer than anyone anticipated.
Reset now, thanks for the heads-up.

heh

If can't be reversed, whatever. It aint that long. Just kinda bizarre haha

If they're trolling but still producing worthwhile content, then mission accomplished
