I am just under the impression that, when as a website grows, eventually it will reach a critical mass that triggers part of bottle neck to be re-written in multi-threaded C++ for performance if it's not already written in C++.

user315433
Right, this was from An Optimization Exercise by Kevin.

@TravisJ I kinda have no idea what resubnetting is.
Probably is but SF or network engineering might possibly be a better place.

William Powell "Bill" Lear (June 26, 1902 – May 14, 1978) was an American inventor and businessman. He is best known for founding the Lear Jet Corporation, a manufacturer of business jets. He also invented the battery eliminator for the B battery, and developed the 8-track cartridge, an audio tape system. Throughout his career of 46 years, Lear received over 120 patents. == Early life == Lear was born on June 26, 1902 in Hannibal, Missouri to Ruben Marion Lear, a carpenter, and Gertrude Elizabeth Powell Lear. Ruben was a man who had "success in inverse proportion to effort", so Lear's mother left...

nope, you are still dreaming don't worry. This is just a nightmare

@JohnDvorak National Santa Agency? sure

considering that they already had internet connected talking dolls and considering how those ended up, it is probably a bonus that the camera is just a dummy one.
That said, they should go the extra mile and add a random Santa/elf voice that scolds the children at random times. Totally not mind-damaging.

random Santa/elf laugh is acceptable too

now even more realistic than before

@JohnDvorak had that idea way before I even saw the comic.
@JohnDvorak That said, for added effect you should use Jamie's technique from The Amazing World of Gumball. "I just say You, my fist and the first thing that comes to mind at the moment. People fear fills in the blanks"
so, why should you limit to "I know you are listening"

because it's not technically a threat, I guess?

> I know you are listening, little suricate. The age of the Oak is coming.
^ just add some random words. Makes it at least 20% more effective.
and also if you are going to become insane, why holding up? Go for a 100% mad certification

> Santa and his elves decide if your children are naughty or nice and can then send messages to them straight from their smart devices to iSantaCam’s easy-to-read, blue-tooth enabled, LED messaging panel! It’s as simple as downloading and using the iSantaCam App for iBluetooth v4.0 compatible smart devices OR clicking a few buttons on the remote included with the iSantaCam.

....
That's just wrong

Was just reading the latest post on that "Internet of" twitter account. And yep, even if the name is uncouth, that is probably one of the few times you will hear me say that it is a fitting name for some of the brilliant ideas they post about.
Which brings me to the new question. I don't use facebook so I don't have any mean to confirm that claim... Are they really asking random user to send in a picture of their face to verify their account?

@Derpy I don't think it's random. Either it's for people who want that blue confirmation mark, or users who get locked out of their account somehow.
And for those who missed it:
a friend sent me this: Facebook is now locking users out of account features, then demanding that those users "verify" their account to get back in by scanning an image of their face. AN IMAGE OF THEIR FACE.
The "locking users out" is probably just fake news.
oh wait... meh, it's real. metro.co.uk/2017/11/29/…
Part of fighting bots, so it's welcome. :D
It will cause drastic drop in Facebook new users and mass leaving of existing old time users, so it's a brave move.

How that will stop bots? They really think they can stop people from using a fake photo?
seems more "please send more data about you" that "we are doing it for security"

@Derpy having bot send a decent fake photo, unique for each bot instance, will require lots of development efforts, so it will reduce the bots usage overall.
(in Facebook)
Russia will have to find other ways to influence the next USA elections. ;)

1:44 PM
@Derpy they also thought they could stop people from using a fake name.

@Derpy nah... what will they do with our faces?

yep, let them try and stop neural network generated faces.

@Derpy heh, well, if bot owners get such technology guess we're doomed already. :)

wow, nice

Facebook... I know it has a "recognize friends' photos" security feature for those who got locked out, and now they want to have your selfie photo...

1:48 PM
Next step: auto-tagging.

I thought they had that already

welp, I for once created a fake account for science, but got locked out due to suspicious activity and couldn't access it anymore XD

Which, based on that other "wonderful" idea will probably be advertised as "ex boyfriend's revenge protection"

@Derpy already exists

I mostly use a fake account for feeds.

Pretty sure such measure can already be calculated, people like Trump, Putin, and other leaders around the world can demand to get this info, and interrogate people who will be found suspicious.
(Magically this will always include those who oppose them, but that's another story)

Gives that kind of tech I fear that the majority of the world government would just do that. Anti-terrorist measure, ye know.

2:06 PM
I guess staying neutral makes you opposed to everyone?

Israel is making huge steps towards becoming a dictatorship already.
@JohnDvorak nah, harmless. ;)

The only safest move is not to invent anything

only until the point you start claiming "Oh BTW, my god will destroy you unless you secede from power"

e.g. the government is now passing a law forbidding the police from investigating any crimes committed by a prime minister, no matter how severe. Active PM will be able to commit any crime and get 100% protection, by the law.

Yay, fun

2:09 PM
Well so far it's "only" frauds and bribes, but with full protection at hand he will be able to move forward and commit more serious crimes.

@ShadowWizard and yet you assume that there are different political view.
Some time imho Democracy is the best dictatorship.

@Derpy well, these days in Israel there are two: those who want to have our current PM stay and rule forever, and those who don't.

All it takes is for everyone in the small group of "rulers" to agree to the unspoken rule. Do our interest and forget the comunity.

A: What is the story of Jeff Atwood and the pluralization 'Bug'?

balpha But, I'm very curious to know why is the Stack Exchange team ignoring them? We aren't. Sure, they're low-priority bugs, but nevertheless they're bugs. Regarding Jeff's tweet, you should know two things: Although you can never be 100% sure, I am pretty certain that it was tongue-in-cheek. ...

@ShadowWizard ?

> Jeff is also known for calling non-ASCII letters "crazy moon language", but that doesn't mean we've decided to ignore anything unicode-related until the end of time. And this closes a circle, because it gave birth to the name of our localization engine, "Moonspeak". And Moonspeak has pretty sophisticated functionality for handling plurals, including support for languages that have more than two grammatical numbers (e.g. two of a thing and three of a thing use different words).

It still won't light up when there are reviews (on MSE) hence totally useless.
