>@Catija It is Ok when there are "a few" downvotes, especially when outweighted by 9000 upvotes. But when you got a real bunch of DVs that you really don't deserve anymore, not only can it be frustrating, it is also actively harmful because it shows the score as very low to anyone who looks at the question.
I think, just outright clearing all the downvotes and applying a downvote from the Community might be enough.

(also, not bad. -88 2 days ago from a deleted question ;p)

Oh, that Kylo Ren question?

It makes people, for example, delete their downvoted questions and repost them instead of editing
Or just leave the site
The idea is that the "on hold" period should give a real chance to improve

... most people who ask bad questions don't ever try to fix them.
They usually just complain that we won't take their question as is.

@Catija yes
@Baskakov_Dmitriy the former eventually results in a question ban

12:02 AM
Pretty quickly, too... if they only have bad questions.
Part of what SE is trying to do is to help new users post good questions before they post them in the first place. That would make fixing this irrelevant.

also yay for editing out the autism reference.
People seem to use it as an excuse for everything. Its annoying.

Autism reference?
Oh, in the question.

yup
I've nothing against people with autism. I just find that some folk kinda keep using it as an excuse for poor behavior. Its fine to be socially arkward or do slightly silly things. Justification isn't needed.

Feels like the OP was pointing to a possible connections with obsessive-compulsive disorder. (But it would be better to call that spade OCD or somesuch.)

@JourneymanGeek Depends on the amount of them
I have done it on RPG.SE, I do not have a question ban because those situations were a tiny minority
And will unlikely have

If it's your first 2-3 questions, it's pretty immediate. Once you have one good question down, it's a lot harder to get a ban.

Yes, this suggestion is for users who 1) Have failed to write a good question/not to write a bad question 2) Are eager to work on this
The intent is to give them the right to change the question and not suffer much for it being originally bad

more seriously...
@Catija some specific breeds have specific issues

the "not" only applies to "getting sick", not to "die naturally"

hip dysplasia and arthritis on bigger dogs, skin issues with westies...
that frigging nasty thing that happens to cavs

(I was confused when reading that the first time)

Fun dog fact. Westie puppies have ears that flop naturally, so they wrap the ears in cardboard and tape so they stand up.

I know.

An amoeba (/əˈmiːbə/; rarely spelled amœba, US English spelled ameba; plural am(o)ebas or am(o)ebae /əˈmiːbiː/), often called amoeboid, is a type of cell or organism which has the ability to alter its shape, primarily by extending and retracting pseudopods. Amoebas do not form a single taxonomic group; instead, they are found in every major lineage of eukaryotic organisms. Amoeboid cells occur not only among the protozoa, but also in fungi, algae, and animals. Microbiologists often use the terms "amoeboid" and "amoeba" interchangeably for any organism that exhibits amoeboid movement. In old...

The average life-span of an amoeba is little more than two days. But because they reproduce by dividing (or fission), amoebas are more or less immortal.

@JourneymanGeek Arrietty will surely love it (and I'm as impressed as you're)

Arrietty, titled The Borrower Arrietty (Japanese: 借りぐらしのアリエッティ, Hepburn: Kari-gurashi no Arietti) in Japan and The Secret World of Arrietty in North America, is a 2010 Japanese animated fantasy film produced by Studio Ghibli and directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi as his feature film debut as a director. The novel was adapted as a screenplay by Hayao Miyazaki and Keiko Niwa, based on The Borrowers by Mary Norton, an English author of children's books, about a family of tiny people who live secretly in the walls and floors of a typical household, borrowing items from humans to survive. The film stars...

@Derpy nuked the user on SU.

WTH.. there are these type of users too? nuke them!

9:15 AM
bet this one needs burination too, but I am not following the link.
This brings up two things:

There are more?

I am just looking at the first page of users, ordered by creation date.

I also used a custom flag for the user @Derpy. Did you raise it here at MSE?

Yep

Hm, flag delays at MSE? We need a community moderator :P

9:19 AM
lol

BTW, to be clear... I am NOT searching for those actively. If I were, I bet I would find a lot more. I am just keeping an eye on the first user page and pointing out the most evident ones

We have several thousand users we'd like gone on SU

Which brings us to the original question.

Oh, so you aren't looking for users offering escort services @Derpy? I find that hard to believe.
Every time I look away from the clock it changes. Starting to think that there is a conspiracy afoot to waste all my time.

@TravisJ self deleted... o_o

@TravisJ Nope, I am just searching for names to add to the "Great Notebook of Burination"

@ShadowWizard What?! Magic!

Mar 31 '16 at 12:34, by Shadow Wizard
@rene true, average time for my flags is 2 months, and I have about 10 flags which still wait, more than 3 months. I kind of stopped even hoping a custom flag will get any attention, doing it out of pure habit. /cc @Pandya
And now with much less employees, it's likely even worse.

@ShadowWizard not really sure more employees would help there
without a business case for it

@JourneymanGeek more CM's, more people with time to handle those flags.

@ShadowWizard well, there's no shortage of decent candidates, but someone higher up clearly needs to go "damn, we need more CMs"
and some of the issues probably need dev level attention anyway

9:26 AM
I would assume Oded handled quite a lot of flags at MSE. Could be wrong.

mumble. I could create a chat room "Pending Burination" and just post the usernames there. If Shog or balpha notice it they could just delete them when they have some spare time. Or need 5 minutes relaxing.

@JourneymanGeek CM can summon a dev... and I suspect some devs take a look in the flag queue directly.

Flag is now a second-class citizen, oh wait...

@TravisJ yeah, pretty sure he did. And look where this got him.... :/

@ShadowWizard I actually think 'basic' SE flag handling might be community handleable
profiles are something no one seems to have thought of looking at, and that specific post did have a deleted/flagged post on SU so I suspect those just fall into the cracks

9:29 AM
Anyway, since it seem we have a lot of spam accounts, how should I report them? Flagging every single one would only clog the queue.

Q: Spam Profiles are getting my goat. Could we have better tools for mods to deal with profile spam?

Journeyman GeekSU got hit by another batch of spammers creating profiles. Last time it was streaming. Now it's insurance sales... with phone numbers. I have 160+ pages of users from that search, and a quick look suggests most of em are spammers While the powers at be have been taking action, both directly and...

huh lol

Well, I was actually looking at a way of getting rid of them en masse

and jep, @JourneymanGeek question was the reason I was checking in the first place

will SE data center explode if users are spam-creating new accounts?

nope
not even a remote chance of that happening

brain implode

9:38 AM
@RobertCartaino Google bot is paging through those listings, and indexing them (which is the whole point of these profiles; stuffing keywords in there so that search for those words leads to phone numbers). If Google starts thinking of SU as a keyword-stuffing spammy site, that won't help SU's search rankings. — 6' white male 17 hours ago

greatest chance of esploding comes from overwhelming the physical layer of the osi

@TravisJ it might if there will be like 1000000000 new accounts created
> Fatal Error: out of disk space

@ShadowWizard there's a shed load of em

@ShadowWizard A trillion of them? Perhaps, but I highly doubt that would be allowed because of the amount of requests necessary. There would need to be some sort of sophisticated vector for that to work, and again would get back into the physical layer aspect where even if it were to work, it would probably result in a DDoS before it ran out of memory in the database.
Anyway, off to bed o/

Mediamolecule's Dreams is going to be present in some form at PSX on Dec, 8th? Nice
just hoping it isn't another "closed beta starting in 2041" thing.
they are getting on Peria Chronicles level.

Ugh, PlayStation eXperience. I thought PSX the console and like HUH O_O

@AndrewT. I though PSX meant Phillips 66

hope that game can cough up some very random exploration. Won't probably be anything even close to the original PS1 (Lucid Sweet Dream) Simulator but still hoping it will be weird.

1:49 PM
heh... I was trying to finish watching a speedrun of LSD (100 days) and fell asleep

I think Dream simulator isn't the type of game that really works if you just watch it.
And a speedrun? The purpose of the game is getting you lost in a random generated world that gets weirder as you play on.
Sometime I wonder what the game could be if they remade it today
imagine: No Man Sky crossed with Dream Simulator...

2:03 PM
@AndrewT. that sounds really weird when you don't know LSD stands for Lucid Sweet Dream :p

@Stijn and that is probably intentional since it doesn't even "stand" for Lucid Sweet Dream.
every time you start the game, the title screen shows a different meaning for the acronym.

just watched a video, what a strange game :p

if you can call it a game.

ooh
there's a new review icon
Its not butt ugly <3. Nice work guys!

2:16 PM
@ShadowWizard yep, that's the game. And if that seems creepy enough imagine if it was done today, with real randomly generated content and creatures.

@ShadowWizard no, I watched bits and pieces of this

@Derpy and PSVR

@AndrewT. to be clear - this (WARNING: hell planet) is a planet that was found in No Man Sky. A game that doesn't try to be scary. Now imagine if the game was made on purpose to create scenarios like this one and you may have a vague idea of what Dream Emulator could look in "downer mode" if it was released today.

@AdamLear I've been wondering, what does the community team think of the DevOps beta? I only visited it for a week or so, hoped to learn a great deal from reading the questions, but it seemed like half of them were "how do I do X in Jenkins".

@Stijn No idea, sorry. I haven't done any CM work in like 3 years. :) @Shog9 might have an answer for ya, though.

@AdamLear oh right, sorry :p I thought CMs launched the sites, hence my assumption.

They do ultimately decide which proposals go through to beta. I'm just here to push the necessary buttons to create the databases, etc. :)

@6'whitemale OO is like Scientology: anyone can join, but you don't get the real juicy info without years of paying for audits.
@Stijn because that's what folks struggle with. See also: Xcode questions

If the design team can produce 12 review-looking icons, rotating them according to months of the year might keep up the clicks on Review. And maybe include seasonal colors in the buttons, even if it makes Antipodes unhappy.

@6'whitemale essentially, it is the belief that all of your problems are caused by subconsciously held beliefs that, once purged, will leave you able to shape your life, work, perhaps even reality itself at will such that things will just work. And if they don't, you're doing it wrong and should pay someone to correct you.
That's OOP; Scientology is similar, but with more ancient aliens

@Shog9 Ah, so it's SCRUM then.

None of this should be confused with object-oriented programming languages, which are just fancy namespacing tools. You can use them to good effect as long as you ignore the associated cult.
@AdamLear gotta be honest, I never understood SCRUM at all. I blame it on my lack of interest in sports.

@6'whitemale any reason why not to send Australians the icons with a 6-month offset?

Used to know a guy who'd talk about scrum all the time, and then he told a story about shattering his elbow in a match and I decided that waterfall sounded more peaceful.

I also once pitched in to help on a project that needed thousands of object models to meet some requirement. It was all pointless busywork and we lost the contract anyway.
