with 7+ billion people, no human has ever landed on another planet, can I infer that humans are dumb?

There is an obsolete tag on SO. According to "related tags", its closest relative is [c#].

@ShadowWizard it really looks like you should claim your peer pressure badge with that imgur post ;p
also, am confused by the downvotes there

@JourneymanGeek nah, I'm taking a Stand.

@ShadowWizard well, companies do all sorts of strange things ;p
People get paranoid

Someone is grumpy 11 hours ago

lol
@M.A.R. I was totally trying to talk @ShadowWizard into scoring a peer pressure badge ;p

Troll on the roll!
That is the same "jimmy" who complained about disappearing account few days ago.
I say now: "told you it's a troll!"
tongue out
:P

@ShadowWizard Where are you taking the poor stand?
@ShadowWizard Nope, not a troll
Perfectly genuine human
Genuine . . . ly bored
Our boredom, on the other hand, is made in China

@M.A.R. which makes them a.... wait for this.... ..... troll! ;)

So we end up chatting instead of doing cool stuff . . . like shitting on a website

Trolls are born out of boredom
@M.A.R. hard to do that, you need to aim upwards
Unless it's a laptop though
hmm....

@ShadowWizard That's why you're not a troll, NOOOB

Q: my question is always put on hold as off-topic or duplicate or closed why?

Web Designer PromoterI posted many questions but most of the questions are put on hold as off-topic or duplicate or closed i dont know reason may be my english how to explain my issues or otherwise some senior stackusers dominate me? How to handle a senior staff always fight with all staff in a government office? [...

Anyone else reading that "stuckusers"?
@ShadowWizard That would be shitting in reverse

12:03 PM
@M.A.R. didn't even bother to read
@M.A.R. no, that's puking.
Color is different, but the idea is the same. :D

@ShadowWizard tsk tsk tsk ranting philosophically about arrogance and bots being equal
@ShadowWizard Not that reverse, the other reverse

@M.A.R. did you ever try it?

Q: How to make pie chart percentage display clearer

sakoI have made a pie chart that display the percentage of expenses, but the percentage not that clear to read. how can i make them displayed in a clear way?

Well done sir.

@M.A.R. yeah already voted to close

The first step was to ask on Meta Stack Exchange

12:06 PM
With @Oded gone, we have lots more of those in MSE. :/

@ShadowWizard Try pooping?

More accurate, those we get stick for much longer.
Oded used to nuke them in matter of minutes, sometimes suspending the account when they posted more than once.

There is a solution:
Make @Sha a mod on meta.SE

@M.A.R. that's not reverse, that's just another word for the same action. :D
@M.A.R. and risk having me suspend all SE staff? Nah. :P
Unless they make new type of diamond, which has some restrictions. ;)

It's just food chunks, so kinda unprocessed poop
@ShadowWizard Well, I never clean my laptop, so in a way, I have
@ShadowWizard graphite

12:09 PM
@M.A.R. oh, my keyboard got tons of hair, no idea how. It's far from my head, I have short hair, and I don't see my hair ever falling. Still, every time I clean the keyboard, I get hairballs out of it. o_O

You're secretly a cat

lol
@M.A.R. but it's not brown
@jadarnel27 will tell you, only brown counts. :D

Stereotypes
I find your brownism colorist

Nah, brown is awesome!

To express my complaint, I will wear brown

12:12 PM
I wonder, why brown underwear are so rare? Don't think I ever saw such color of underwear in shops.

I have one pair of brown shorts

Shorts doesn't count

Well, I had a white undershirt that I got so dirty one time, it's brown now
@ShadowWizard "don't". Yeah, I feel weird too
English is stupid
Why the hell are my sunglasses plural?

@M.A.R. shorts is single

OK, that's true as well

12:15 PM
@M.A.R. and you keep wearing them? Nice!

@ShadowWizard Yeah . . . The washing machine can't change the color back to normal

Wonder when someone will notice our weird conversation and say something? :D

I'm thinking it will be more like kicking than saying
But in my defense, this could have gotten way more gross

@M.A.R. well, when it happens with my children's underwear we just throw them away. :P
(not the children, the underwear ;))

Well, I can swear the undershirt is clean, but it's not white

12:18 PM
@M.A.R. well.. brown color can't appear magically. It means brown matter was there, at some point. No worry, it happens. All is good. :D

I'm sure the ground didn't shit on my shirt

lol
buh.... need to fix a view which times out now
Hate debugging this

I hate debugging this as well
Can we just fast forward to when AI is sentient?

throwing this on @M.A.R.

shitting on this
throwing this back to @Sha

12:21 PM
dodges, letting the brown this hit @rene instead

He would love that!
Natural fertilizer

12:36 PM
!!poo
stupid bot ...

Bring Kenny to the Tavern, I'm sure he'll enjoy it. :D
It's not the view, it's the filter. Select * From ViewName works, but when adding Where FieldName='value' All goes to hell and it just times out. @rene any idea how such thing can happen? :(
It's just a field in one of the tables the view selects from.
tearing hairs
throwing hairballs on @M.A.R.

@ShadowWizard is fieldname indexed? a special type? Do you even have rows that contains 'value'? Is this on SEDE?

12:51 PM
@rene yeah about 2000 rows out of total 5000 rows the view selects without the filter
Ordinary integer field, no index (it's not a key)

add a top 100 to start with, just for testing

The query itself is comlex though. :/
@rene hmm.... top 100 times out too (I abort after a minute, the actual code has 30 seconds timeout), but top 1 worked fast. Top 2 was slower, etc. So with every record it selects it becomes much slower. So weird. :(

@ShadowWizard you could try to get the execution plan first: meta.stackexchange.com/a/256946/158100

Weird part of this is when the same filter has different value, all works well.

did you update statistics?

12:58 PM
@rene nope, don't know what it is

it is a job that normally runs once a day or so and keeps some stats about tables and indexes. If it has outdated values because it wasn't run for a while it chooses the wrong execution plan
What is your sql version?

@rene 2014 but I'm not using any of its special features, having code which was originally written for SQL Server 2008

if you look at the execution plan for the two cases (the one that works and the one that is slow), what is the difference?

@rene hmm.. it works only for "indexed views", my view is not indexed.
How I make it indexed?
feeling n00b

1:12 PM
@rene they both look horrible with tons of scary stuff I don't really understand (yet), but they are indeed very different

@ShadowWizard Ok, do you have any full table scans in the worst performing one?

@rene nope
The plan for the working one starts with this:
And the non working:
|--Compute Scalar...
   |--Nested Loops...
        |--Nested Loops...
        |    |--Nested Loops....
        |    |    |--Filter...
        |    |    |    |--Nested Loops...
        |    |    |         |--Nested Loops...
Looks like it got more nested loops, which cause the slowness..
|--Compute Scalar...
   |--Nested Loops...
        |--Nested Loops...
        |    |--Hash Match...
        |    |    |--Compute Scalar...
        |    |    |    |--Compute Scalar...
        |    |    |         |--Stream Aggregate...
buh, chat rate limit I didn't notice, lol. The first is the non working, second is working.
Well I'll try to make it indexed view, let's see where it leads me. Thanks! @rene

@ShadowWizard you might want to try an HINT, for example OPTIMIZE FOR ( @variable_name = literal_constant)
where literal_constant is that value that male it works well.

1:36 PM
well..... just adding " WITH SCHEMABINDING" is stuck, think I'll just select all records and filter in the code. :/
oh wait. It did it. Took 3 whole minutes to add that.

If you can make it generic enough you might ask on DBA.se. they have some pretty clever dba's answering, even for SQL Server
@ShadowWizard strangely enough Hash Match is the more expnsive operation as opposed to Nested Loops

@rene Well, just adding WITH SCHEMABINDING to everything (main view and all the functions/sub views it's using) solved the problem, no longer times out. Thanks!!
Guess it's still horrible and can be improved by like 90%, but meh... will probably take me long hours to put a "real" fix.
The view is cached anyway.

1 hour later…
@JourneymanGeek better ^

this way lots of people will see and flag it

ah. I don't do smokey. ;p
I believe on good old fashioned artisanal nuclear death on spammers.
also, roughly as singaporean as noida I suspect.

I took a stand whole-day chat break (been busy to-day), and the topic was... 💩???
Well done, taverners :O

3:00 PM
@AndrewT. no no, @M.A.R. never do such things
@M.A.R. is special

Of course

SO should hit 15M questions within a week, although weekly Roomba may have some influence on that.

user315433
The 10M celebration was in August 2015, but it was only recently that SO reached 10M questions with an upvoted or accepted answer (currently 10.5M)

Was this partly dissociation always like this: i.stack.imgur.com/tMaU5.png ?
I thought both notices were left in a state when they were generated? (source)

Neither one is left in the original state, since the removed user's name is not hyperlinked. (In the original state, we'd have 404 link there)

user315433
But the two bits process user links differently, one reaching for UserDisplayName, and one for UserId.

Who wrote "a typical SO question" but I think it's more likely to happen in that tag than in, say, Python or Matlab.
