@Telkitty only when they're sure of their power. Trump has nothing to worry about, he will be re-elected in the next elections, no matter what he'll do.

@ShadowWizard I want to disagree but the current state of the democratic party lends itself to that assumption

@Magisch it's about the voters, the citizens, not parties. On the outside they might say they don't like what Trump is doing. But inside they're happy to have a "strong" leader who is doing what he wants and pissing on the whole world. So they'll always vote for him.

@ShadowWizard Not really in a 2 party system

The party will never dare to remove a golden egg, a sure win, from its lead.

Most of the voters would rather something else but a 2 party system means you're morally obligated to vote for the lesser evil most likely to win as any vote for a third party is the same as not voting at all
One of the reasons why first past the post winner takes it all voting isn't a good idea

5:31 AM
@Magisch Not when the "something else" is considered as weak and pathetic. And fake news can cause anyone to appear this way, even if it's not true.

tbh I don't even know what's going on over there anymore
But I have long stopped thinking I have any clue what goes on in the mind of the citizens

In Israel, one named Shimon Peres once tried to be elected as PM. He was left winged. The leader of the right wing used one sentence in his own campaign: "Peres will split Jerusalem". This alone caused Peres to lose, and it's purely "fake news" as nobody can tell what someone will do in the future. Anyway... same happens in all elections since then, including in USA. Campaigns are not to show how good the candidate is, only to show how bad the other is, or can be, or will be.

user202362

I am a person of science, I would like to know why ...

@Telkitty I think it's white, not pale. Just white color, by design. So ask whoever designed elks why he/she/it chose those colors. :)
Maybe some CSS rule? .butt: {color: white;}
(found somewhere in their DNA)
Thinking about it, humans don't get to have different colors for different body parts. So unfair!

@ShadowWizard I beat you by.... by.... by few milli seconds

That user.... he also posted some crap yesterday, but in English.
Guess it's kind of rage quit.

@OptimusPrime so what he's saying?

I don't know hindi

@OptimusPrime so? How's that relevant?

even the american google know hindi. but I don't know it
did you checked the comments by him?

Yeah started to troll with comments too. Flagged the question asking to nuke the troll.

6:16 AM
no idea
Well since it won't be deleted as offensive, voted to close.

@ShadowWizard why?
it should be deleted as rude/off.

@OptimusPrime looks like others don't think so. It needs 6, so will be faster to close and delete it.

@ShadowWizard hmm. I flag questions in non english as rude/ offensive. I think the right way to do it. am I correct?

@OptimusPrime yup

yesterday I had some argument with @Mithrandir about this

6:23 AM
Why not a custom flag?

@Desire that makes sense, yes. I have changed it already.

there's 100 reputation penalty for rude/offensive
unless you know it is.

I disagree with what @Mithrandir said. We don't need to go and translate to check whether it is rude or not. If it is non-english and can't read, just flag it as rude/offensive

if we can closevote, we can vtd ;p

@JourneymanGeek do you have any idea on previous ping?

6:24 AM
@OptimusPrime didn't really get what it the issue is

the z-index
If I am on chrome or explorer or paint or any other application, moving mouse pointer to the bottom didn't make the taskbar come
It's coming behind the window. have to minimize or resize the window to access taskbar or I have to press the start button

hah
autohide taskbar dosen't always work right for me either.

yup. sometimes it works without any issue.
but sometimes, it is very irritating
Microsoft doesn't know how to use z-index.
It's time for them to switch to JavaScript

so @TheLittleNaruto how you doing?

6:39 AM

@OptimusPrime I used to flag non English content as r/a until I started getting them declined and told that it wasn't supposed to be flagged as rude/abusive.

you should discuss it with the mods

I am a mod :P

so you declined your own flag. lol

6:47 AM
No, I didn't. I'm just not a mod everywhere :}

that's what I said. you should discuss it with the corresponding site mods in TL
so you'll get the points from CM's too

I have already.

what they said?

...non English content shouldn't be flagged as Rude/Abusive unless the translated content is itself rude/abusive.
I didn't get anything from the CMs there but the rest of the mods were fairly convincing :)

but we are not supposed to do the translation for them
they are abusing the system by posting non english content
!!/blame

6:50 AM
@OptimusPrime It's Optimus Prime's fault.

Feel free to bring it up as a meta post ;)

@OptimusPrime gibberish actually has literal gibberish

but the previous word
> that contains no useful content at all

7:05 AM
do we know?
and as I've often said - the point of a flag is to get someone to take a look, and a custom flag may actually work better here.

@JourneymanGeek the site is used for english content. posting contents in other languages is really abusing the system. that's my point of view on this

at best, it gets deleted. at worst, we nuke the account.
For all you know it might just be someone really lost

a rude flag not only give a penalty but also some rate limits. but you just nuke the account. on the very next minute, he can create a new one

eh. not really
nuking an account does throw it into IP ban heck IIRC

@JourneymanGeek not sure, at least not automatic. Think only CM can put IP ban.

7:18 AM
@ShadowWizard well, I can't nuke an account here ;p
talking from the moderatorial POV?

I don't think deleting an account will give an ip ban because account deletions are happenings in many different scenarios

Certain types of account deletion will throw up an IP block.
I think almost all types of account destruction will throw up an IP block.

@ShadowWizard yes, automatically, but it wears off after a couple of days. A CM is needed to put up a longer block.
We can't manually block an IP.
We can cause an IP to be blocked by nuking accounts on that IP.

@Mithrandir so if someone use a shared computer to spam (e.g. library, coffee shop), everyone using that computer after spammer is nuked won't be able to create accounts?

7:24 AM
@ShadowWizard they can create accounts.

@Mithrandir so... what's the IP block for?

They just will find themselves severely rate limited in posting.

@ShadowWizard rate limit

@Mithrandir oh. Thought the whole discussion here was about "on the very next minute, he can create a new one" that @Optimus said. So @OptimusPrime was right after all. :)

user202362
as a privileged dev, you can do even better: 1) log in as root, 2) DELETE FROM Users
WHERE Name= ...

7:25 AM
@ShadowWizard some people make posts on meta saying too many spam posts from your ip. you can't do that for next x hours

As far as I'm aware, the discussion with Shog about blocking IPs from creating new accounts didn't go anywhere :/

> Unhandled exception in SQLFoo: Violation of Foreign Key blah blah

@Telkitty it's around six clicks to nuke an account from the UI ;)

@ShadowWizard more or less

One can't just delete from main table, there are keys.... and Tim Post tend to lose them.... :D

7:38 AM
;p

7:59 AM
@Telkitty Jokes aside I think this would probably be a terrible way to do it
You're likely creating all sorts of deletion anomalies with this - orphaned records in subtables and such

Somehow I expect to see them in an episode of "The last Alaskan" pretty soon, even if they probably live somewhere else

I imagine two people meeting in australia
And when I see/hear australia, my first thought is that there's tons of deadly insects and plants

8:57 AM
@Derpy and horses too

user310756

I've had a five foot python in one of my bedrooms. We also unearthed nests of snakes. I've had cats bring in snakes into the house.

pythons aren't venomous
You could just grab it and put it outside

@Telkitty the brown snake is the one that is less likely to run and will stand it's ground. Except the dead adder, which lies compeltely still to hide and will only bit if you step on or right near it

@Magisch I hid in my bathroom LOLOL

user202362
once I ran into 3 snakes in one day while doing the great ocean walk, almost stepped on to one, they couldn't wait to get away from me, probably very scared ...

user310756
@Telkitty yep

I found a snake once while camping
someone took photos and we all took a look until releasing it from the tent

user310756
when we lived in the country we had to be uber careful. In the city when we're lived bear bush and where my horses are now - very careful, it borders onto bushland

9:03 AM
How do you live in australia then?

@Magisch link to photos? ;)

Just in constant paranoia of every bush?

user202362
like I said, those creatures are scared of people

@ShadowWizard Don't think I have them anymore, that was over 10 years ago

user202362
if you are not food, they have little reason to attack you

9:05 AM
:(

still, I'd be paranoi as hell

Fear of the unknown... You can't really tell what the snake will do. 🐍

user202362
think from spider/snake point of view: there is a huge creature that could kill me, do I want to bite it?

10 years... So you were a teenager?
@Telkitty if that would stop the big creature due to my poison? Yup.

@ShadowWizard We found out later that it was a snake that isn't actually a snake but a lizard
Anguilis fragilis I think
No clue how to translate "Blindschleiche" into english

user310756
9:08 AM
@Telkitty yep @Magisch they're more scared of us they we are of them

@ShadowWizard Yeah I was 13 and we went camping with class

user310756
@Telkitty yep they prefer to run and hdie

user310756
I'm not scared, just careful

Weirdly enough I'm not scared by snakes or spiders, but by almost all other insects

user310756
I grew up on the beaches in the see and we were educated about sharks, blue ringed octopus - never put your foot into a rock pool, jelly fish and box jelly fish are further up the coast

9:09 AM
Weirdly enough I'm not scared of insects, because I do photograph them now...

user310756
@Magisch spiders are great - they eat flies and mosquitoes

(and arachnids, and other invertebrate...)

@YvetteColomb Indeed. I have a cross spider (about 1,5cm diameter) in one of my plants
It's a symbiotic situation. The spider has ample to eat and I have fewer flies in my apartment

user310756
@Magisch yep I hate using fly spray

I use these for fly and mosquito control en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyrethrin

from statistic point of view, you should be more wary of cars than spiders/snakes, there are less than 5 deaths per year in Australia due to snake + spider bites and greater than 1000 due to cars.

user202362
The table below is a list of motor vehicle deaths in the United States by year. According to data compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2016, 37,461 people were killed in 34,436 crashes, an average of 102 per day. In 2010, there were an estimated 5,419,000 crashes (30,296 fatal crashes), killing 32,999 and injuring 2,239,000, and around 2,000 children under 16 years old die every year due to traffic collisions. Records indicate that there has been a total of 3,613,732 motor vehicle fatalities in the United States from 1899 to 2013. Although the number of deaths...

@alexolut Thanks for reporting. you'll get some awesome swag for reporting this from Shog (or Bluefeet (or Tim post (or Jon ericson ( or JNat or (....)))))
;p

@OptimusPrime because based on the answer the error isn't caused in any way by the code posted in the question. Instead, the user answering found out the code is in a call only present in the original code on the original site. To understand the answer I would have to view the original site.

2:08 PM
@Derpy I asked about it on SOCVR, but seems my question was ambiguous (is it on-topic? no MCVE?), and no one VTC it...

so:
1) the question is incomplete. The fundamental part of the snippet, the one causing the error isn't even there
2) the code is found on an external site that can at any moment go missing or be replaced by malevolent content
3) it encourages the user to go to the external site to try to understand the answer. See point 2) for "malevolent content potential". Also, free visits for question creator.
4) search will work poorly since again the real question subject isn't even there.

@OptimusPrime what swag do you mean?

In Australia, a swag is a portable sleeping unit. It is normally a bundle of belongings rolled in a traditional fashion to be carried by a foot traveller in the bush. Before motor transport was common, foot travel over long distances was essential to agriculture in the Australian bush. It is sometimes referred to as a "backpack bed". Swags have been carried by shearers, miners, the unemployed, and many others, some of whom would have been happy to have been called swagmen and some not. == Modern use == In Australia, the term swag is still widely used to refer to a tent or other portable shelter...
