Interpersonal Skills is in public beta

user315433
> Winners are Tjaden Hess, Badr Bellaj, and eth.

user315433
I strategically didn't vote for eth (was unnecessary), instead putting niksmac as #1, but that didn't help. Eh, the other two are okay, they were my 2 and 3.

@canon huh! lol
@Shog9 amazed you keep trying. Well done! ;)
Reminds me of related request, to add emoji support to markdown. @rene suggested using web font for this. :)

9:22 PM
@ShadowWizard how 'bout the one from yesterday to add support for a new version of unicode with power button icons?

@Shog9 yes that was it
well, emojis are unicode...
WhatsApp is 99% emoji
(without it, nobody will use WhatsApp)

Ever wonder what text assistance places, such as WhatsApp and Bitmoji and whatnot, do with all of the text messages they store?
They literally store every text message that hits your phone.
(p.s. this is why facebook can suggest people as friends that you have texted but have had no other contact with)

@TravisJ it's even worse. I heard two different people I know say they got ads for things they only talked about, without ever searching for them online. Both have the facebook app. Do the math yourself.

Yeah the app itself is kind of terrifying. I certainly don't have it installed.
My phone is just a speaker with a morse code input.
;)

@TravisJ still hackable
Data can be stolen from computer by recording the LED of its HDD, you know?

9:30 PM
Kidding of course, its iphone 7+ ... I am not tin hat, there is evidence for the keyboard stuff. I bet there is an app to look at all the ports that the phone is connected to, or has been.

@TravisJ good for you! ;)

They are too large to be honest, but the camera is nice
Takes the best cat pics :P

@TravisJ so you have one cat?
The camera of iPhone 8 is being developed here in Israel, by the way. ;)

Oh cool :)

So you'll know who to blame for all its bugz.... :D

9:36 PM
Yeah I have a siamese/ragdoll cat and a mini aussie shepard

@TravisJ together??
@SagarV regarding that "indian spammer", it's not different from the infamous baba we had years ago who is also from India. So what? It actually might be the same spammer. He just got huge botnet or whatever, letting him change IP's and create as many new accounts as he wants, probably with scripts.

@ShadowWizard Yup, they play all the time
here is teh cat:

@TravisJ looking very... spoiled. :)
And the dog?

@ShadowWizard So, to kill whatsapp, we have to kill unicode?

No dog photos on this phone yet. I only got it last week because my previous phone ran out of memory to take pictures, then it couldn't get email, then it couldn't receive texts, and so it had to go. That cat one was from sunday.
@canon One does not simply "kill unicode".

9:42 PM
@TravisJ how dare you not have any dogs photos!!!!

lol
@bluefeet I will take one when I get home to remedy the situation.

pretty sure my phone is most dog pics, and house renovations.

I have a picture of the Whittier Fire, a few cat pics, and some beach on there at the moment.

@TravisJ huh. My old phone (LG G3, two years old) suddenly wasn't able to connect to WiFi or bluetooth, and since it kept trying to connect, the battery was wasted, something like 100% drain in less than two hours. So kind of dead end to the poor phone. Decided to downgrade to LG G4 Beat as it was super cheap, and I don't really need all the fancy things.
@TravisJ take one of both of them together. ;)

@ShadowWizard Will do :)

9:53 PM
:)
Me want dat here! ^

lol

(the Wheel, already got @Adam here ;))
So that's what you do all day long in your secret rooms here.... now I see. :P

user315433
Whom should we blame for the lack of Ethereum election-results post, two hours after the event?

@Alex caching

@ShadowWizard yeah, it's basically just passing the blame around until one of us dies

10:12 PM
@AdamLear at least you all die happy, after fixing all the bugs!
Also, is DAG team there as well?

On the wheel?
It picks out of the users in the room, IIRC

@AdamLear nice, I once upgraded the jsfiddle WoB to do that with the Tavern but it broke since then. :/
@AdamLear that, and in the room?

@ShadowWizard what room? :) my screenshots are taking out of the general Core team chat, not DAG-specific team room.

@AdamLear wait, is DAG part of Core?
I'm still trying to grasp all the different teams you have... :/

Core is no longer a team, more just an org structure.
Most folks who work on Talent/Jobs don't spend much time in Q&A code and vice versa, but there are a couple exceptions.

10:28 PM
Starting the climb up to 20k rep
Haven't actively pursued any rep in like, years. Doubtful I'll make much progress though
Like three upvotes in a month. I don't post about popular topics, lol

Oh hey take a look; two bountied questions on Meta about hot network questions
@Shog9, that’s 100 rep waiting for you! =O

There is... No upside to dealing with HNQ requests

hey, at least 74 people care about blocking some sites

I hear userscripts are great for things like that

well, that applies to pretty much everything
and I don’t have a userscript extension. but fair enough – AdBlock can remove the entire list
I’ll miss the good ones, though ='(

10:37 PM
Let's face it: if you can't run userscripts, your life sucks anyway.

lol

Much obliged if you could update the first one from [status-deferred] to [-declined], @Shog9

I'm not against it, there's just... a few dozen other things that'll do a lot more good first

@cazc_941 yeah your graph is quite stable
@Shog9 there is, making lots of people happy
Especially @gnat
@Shog9 well, the one who added the deferred tag no longer works for SE... guess whatever led to this is no longer relevant, so at least just remove the tag, even if not declining the request.
Personally would like to see burninated, it just cause false hopes...
@AdamLear so it was a team that has been split to several smaller teams?
Makes sense... and each team now got its own private room here on MSE chat?

Pretty much

10:47 PM
Very.... organized. :)
Hey @Journeyman how many miles you walked today between the buildings?

so far today? 0 Yesterday , about 5km+ or so

@ShadowWizard upvotes here and there on the same question and answer. I have one over 100 now
An old Minecraft post

@ShadowWizard nothing short of the complete removal of HNQ as a concept will make gnat happy.
And... I'm not 100% confident in that.

I don't think I've ever hit daily cap

@cazc_941 nice.. but to get to 20k you really need to start posting again... :)

10:50 PM
Reasonable odds we'd be seeing "block inbound requests from Facebook / Reddit" FR day after.

@Shog9 nah.... think he's just up to improving it, not removing it.

@ShadowWizard I have actually in the last month... Check out my recents and how much I've earned lol
Although haven't posted any answers

@ShadowWizard Look past the requests at the problem that motivates them.
@ShadowWizard I disagree. is perhaps the most most accurate tag for many, many requests - we need to be using it more.
There are a lot of good ideas that we simply cannot get to; I'd prefer to record our thoughts on them and mark 'em as such than leave them sitting.

@Shog9 The motivation is that gnat dislikes anything that results in positive reputation gain. If it can be upvoted, it should be removed. Extra views? Removed. Bounties? Don't get him started!

@cazc_941 oh, right... well, the jackpot is in the popular games, while they are still "fresh". Made a fortune over Skyrim with mostly questions. :)

10:54 PM
I gave up trying to dissuade him from any of his points of view though, it is a losing battle. He is set in his ways and probably? means well. To be honest though, I am really getting fed up with the whole contrarian movement in general, or in a more broad sense the idea that there always needs to be someone playing devil's advocate for every single position out there.

@Shog9 well, what I remember that troubles @gnat the most is questions being HNQ for too long, and too many questions from the same site, making it "unfair" for other sites. No?

@ShadowWizard No.

user315433
Without trying to read gnat's mind, much of HNQ irritation comes from lulzy, forum-y, OMG/WTF questions getting a lot of HNQ time and thus shaping site's image.

@Shog9 I agree when the list is realistic and things get done, but in reality requests are sitting as deferred for long years, which becomes pretty absurd. Most of the new features are not coming from those anyway.

The underlying concern is that, with a sufficiently-high number of views, problematic answers get a lot of upvotes.
The assumption is that these are folks from other sites, unfamiliar with the norms of the site on which the hot question lies, voting contrary to convention.
This... Is not generally seen in the actual voting data though.

10:58 PM
I find the HNQ list interesting, and at times fun to peruse. I haven't found answers there to be incorrect and thus problematic. Can you give any examples?

Hence, there's no win by "fixing" HNQ - the wrong stuff will still get upvoted in the places where it currently is hot.

@Alex huh? Is this new command?

Related musings from earlier today:
7
A: Can post notices on the hard-science tag actually do something?

Shog9This is one of those areas where a topic breaks the model a bit. For questions, we have essentially two axes for voting: Closing a question - possible even if highly upvoted - makes it eligible for deletion and prevents answers from being posted, providing strong encouragement for improvemen...

A human-friendly alias for "f", "fp-"

@ShadowWizard Most of my 16k ish rep came from Minecraft questions back when people cared about it

10:59 PM
@Alex oh. Nice!

is that for false positive negative?

@cazc_941 lol, makes sense. :)

how about !fp
or too command-y?

@TravisJ no, the "-" means "silent", so that Smokey won't reply.

ah

11:01 PM
same for tpu-
Which got "k" as alias.

ahhhh

You ahhhh a lot, @Trav
:D

It's slang for "just keep talking, I'm listening"
;)

user315433
Hiding HNQ questions from other sites and ignoring high-activity QA on the current site solves the HNQ problem for me. We exist in parallel universes.

lol
I use the HNQ list to gain rep on various sites by editing.
Suggesting an edit to such a question or one of its answers is usually reviewed quickly. lol

11:04 PM
I guess I just don't see the problem. Often the HNQ posts are interesting, well written, and highlight what I wish every question on the newest questions list would look like (for the most part).

@Shog9 I see now. If that's the case, guess there's no winning. But still, letting users block certain sites from appearing there makes sense, can't see any harm in that.

user315433
> Think of it as Quora for programmers

IMO, the whole HNQ concept is good and important, and can use more features.
And with that.... gotta go to sleep. Night!

I miss the greatest hits feature that you could use for your own posts

user315433
11:07 PM
I remember when HNQ lived in the multicollider and nobody cared about them much...

'night Mr. Wizard o/

user315433
Then black navbar appeared, and there was no room for HNQ there. And Jeremy T had a brilliant idea...

11:21 PM
@Alex only completely not
