So... why did both James and Monica posted answers to that question from 2011, within a few hours? (Followed by Jon)

user202362
...

user202362
because new answer to an old question would bump it up and makes it attract more attention?

user202362
seriously, has @jason hit your head with a tuna last night?

@Telkitty So, total dead horse, and lack of response by both me and Gerry every time should be an indication that your pings are just getting annoying and your weird internal joke isn't funny. Don't ping me about it again, ever.

user202362
lol

user202362
12:21 AM
pinged you because I didn't want to talk behind your back

user202362
from now on I will promise to annoy gerry with tuna without pinging you

user315433
Community Building site reached 0.0 questions per day and disappeared from my log-log chart of sites... log(0) :-(

user315433
The newest question is dated March 24.

user315433
FR: when a site goes 24 hours without new questions, Community should post a question, generated by a Markov chain trained on existing questions on that site.

user315433
Will keep things entertaining, and also give users something to do (e.g., close as unclear).

12:29 AM
I was looking at site activity for failing sites the other day. I'm not convinced there isn't a pretty accurate predictor in activity patterns. I intend to investigate more. I need to get old data dumps and look at activity for previously closed sites, first. It's a bit of an intimidating amount of data to download.

user315433
Also, an incentive for them to ask a question, if they don't want to closevote Community.

There's this pattern of constant activity decrease + the site never reaching the activity level it had within its first two weeks + a huge activity level in the first two weeks that most failing sites seem to have, which makes sense intuitively, I just need to confirm that hypothesis.

user315433
Hm, that is a feature request I could probably implement myself, using the API. Until the bot gets Q-banned, which won't take long.

It's those sites where users had a sort of bandwagon thing going on in the proposal, but the topic either didn't have interesting content, or really only had a finite number of questions.
Kind of "feel good" YEAH LET'S DO THIS! sites with no solid core.

user202362
there is a positive correlation between me mentioning tuna and gerry's activity in the tavern

12:32 AM
@Telkitty This is your last warning and then I'm going to start kick-muting you.
Actually no that would be harsh, I won't. But stop.

user202362
how come you never post pictures of your cats?

@Gerry Also yes, that would be awesome, lol.
If you do that I really want to see some samples from Lifehacks.
@Telkitty I don't feel compelled to post pictures of my cats, I guess.
Although I'm pretty sure I have at least once.

user202362

What you did on happy hour? I don't know what you use to do it.
@Telkitty I am a simple man. Saw cute puppy and starred.

user202362
I am waiting for the electrician to complete his work, it's going to take a while so I am chatting here

user202362
12:44 AM
but ... are you a simple sock?

@JasonC dammit man, warnings are cruel. Just do it - more fun for everyone involved.

No,I have simple socks

Fawad needs toe socks

:O no,no,please unsee it shog

Too late

12:47 AM
@Shog9 1. I get a bigger kick out of cruel, and 2. I have values, dammit. VALUES.

Q: Is there a procedure to have a community vote on deleting one forum?

grovkin"Politics" and "Skeptics" has become a cesspool (to use a euphemism for clusterf**k) of one-sided politics advocacy. They both advertise themselves as educational. But, in truth, they seek to indoctrinate. I am not asking this question to prove what I said above. I freely admit that this is...

I'm standing in line at a taco shop. I need entertainment.

user315433
Let's add Lifehacks to the list...

And beer. But you can't help with that.

I was so pumped to give you entertainment then TIL I don't get a "kick-mute" option for blue names.

12:49 AM
Yeah, I gotta live vicariously

user202362
taco ... frozen minced beef ... wood fire oven

@JasonC make room private, and don't give access permission to blue names

user202362
I used to annoy this other room owner, he used to give me this tiny 30 secs kick

user202362
it tickles

user202362
makes me want to annoy him more

12:51 AM
@Fawad Sounds like work.

user202362
but I would never do this to you @jas ... coz I don't want to annoy you

I find muting people to be more effective than a kick.

user202362
but you are not kind of person who would plonk people for a long time

Wait, you can kick other room owners?

@JasonC muting is kind of a drama magnet for us on root access

1:10 AM
@hichris123 Yeah it look like it.
At least the option is there when I click your name.
@JourneymanGeek That's because people don't know how to mute effectively.

user202362
so if US goes into war in Syria, US is going to spend more on army?

They tend to announce it first. That's the drama trigger.
Nothing makes a situation worse than:

user202362
increased spending with raising interest rate, we are heading towards GFC II

@JourneymanGeek MUTED.
@Telkitty US already spends an inordinate amount of money on the military I feel like at this point increases are almost ... a sad non-issue.

user202362
1:24 AM
Why does the Syria airstrike gives me this feeling that many people support the sentiment that the way to stop conflict is to kill people and destroy things?? Isn't it a rather retarded stance?

You're not a REAL president unless you've indirectly destroyed a whole lotta stuff. That's how it works. Don't rock the boat.

user202362
I understand that from president's point of view, but not from everyone else

Do sites have the ability to add custom flag reasons on answer flags?

1:48 AM
No
Well. You can type stuff.

You mean like change the descriptions of the existing flags?

@Telkitty cause it works sometimes. Most of the time it does not. Also makes a great distraction.

user202362
yeah, killing all people would end conflicts of humankind, really smart </sarcasm>

@JasonC lol. Also one high functioning autistic with troll tendencies and one with a tendency to overreact

@Gerry Why do you have to be such a hypocrite - you are obviously attracted to 1337 tr011s, any 1337 tr011 (although there aren't so many of us). And yet you pretend to renounce us, while we both know deep inside, you just want us 1337 tr011s to throw ourselves at you like magnet to an iron nail.

The question. The engrish comment. The crap answer. The garbage suggested edit, the inexplicable approve vote on said edit. This one has it all.

@JasonC Why not bringing that up at the SOCVR then?

@πάνταῥεῖ I did.

@JasonC Unfortunately I'm still blocked there and at SO, so I didn't notice ;-)

That's great.

@SmokeDetector sneaky

@πάνταῥεῖ tbh, any reply that I can say would be too mean, so... how much longer before you're out of the doghouse? ;p

@JourneymanGeek "any reply that I can say would be too mean" I know of course >|
The general policy at SO is that "we throw cotton balls at VLQ crap, or shut up at all" (citing a colleage)

Wow: datagenetics.com/blog/september32012 This is ridiculously fascinating.
I cannot believe how much analysis that guy put into that.

hm
that's annoying

@Telkitty I'm cool as can be babe!

There's a narrow borderline of "being nice" and simply telling people the blatant truth. Well, I'm not really supposed to complain. At medievial times and other ages they simply decided to cut truth tellers their heads off.

@πάνταῥεῖ you can tell people the blatent truth in a painfully nice way.

Ye needeth to read ye olde fine help center and tour before ye proceed to asketh any questions of a topic not pertaining to this fine site. — Journeyman Geek 5 hours ago
For example, lol

6:23 AM
lol

I kind of want to use that as a general template. Way weirder totally out of context.

lol. Just don't blame me if you get in trouble for it. In this case, I couldn't resist ;)

Actually that's not a bad idea, like if every comment I made on SO, I talked like a pirate.

@JourneymanGeek I well know. But that's even worse IMO. I'm well versed with highly sophisticated sarcasm, but that lets people looking even dumber than really necessary. Just my 2c.

Now now, that's faux medivalism, ye knave.
;p

6:26 AM
Well, simply cutting heads of is straightforward and effective :-)

@πάνταῥεῖ lol. Diplomacy is the art of telling someone to go to hell, and have them look forward to the trip? ;p

No I know, but I want to talk like a pirate.
You can talk like a court jester or whatever

lol
I'll talk as appropriate ;p

> Ahoy 'n welcome t' stack o'erflow. Thanks fer nah readin' th' help center afore postin' yer garbage riddle, ye farrgin' dickwad.

(also was tempted to answer in character but I should set a good example, even when trolling ;) )

6:28 AM
So much nicer.

Well, I'd use something a little less blatent...

@JourneymanGeek Isn't such really cruel? Besides being sarcastic sometimes I'm still a philanthrope.

dickwad is rude.
@πάνταῥεῖ oh more often than not the most I do is tell them to take a hike

"Dickwad" is one of the highest compliments a pirate can give. Obviously you know nothing of pirates.

@JourneymanGeek That's a really good idea, but leaves them confused anyways :-/
@JasonC "Obviously you know nothing of pirates." Isn't that rude?

6:30 AM
@JasonC apparently profanity is against the rules...
so we need to get creative...

@JourneymanGeek Or simply shut up and use our tools :-P

@πάνταῥεῖ there was someone mass flagging every single use of words that could be deemed profane...
I put my foot down when he flagged mispellings of as as ass...

Sigh... see, the point of "dickwad" there was a humourously blunt completion of an otherwise silly sentence, meant to induce lols from the contrast. /annoying-explanation-of-joke
And now I'm just demoralized, and I no longer care about pirates, or anything, really. Thanks.

Well, all 4 feet. But you get the idea.
Speaking of trolls and feet...

@JourneymanGeek And thus began the Great Pineapple Pizza War between Iceland and New Zealand, which lasted for four centuries and ended in the complete devastation of two once-prosperous nations.

6:40 AM
@JasonC and everything in between

Lol

I had pasta made entirely from scratch, right down to the pasta
Well. I suppose the cheddar was store bought.

Q: Can we change the inaccurate wording of semi-perm bans?

TelkittyLook at this: A temporary suspension for 10 years with roughly 8 years remaining. Is 10 years temporary? I hardly think so. You don't say you temporarily lived in a place for 10 years or you temporarily worked in a company for 8. In many developed countries, manslaughter only carries 1-2 yea...

I sort of like imagining a bunch of soldiers with pineapple-on-pizza emblems on their uniforms, fighting soldiers with "no pineapple" signs on their hats or something.

It gets worse
> The Italian Embassy in Wellington has responded with an epic 'vendetta' aimed at just about the only culinary dish of note from New Zealand - the pavlova.

The embassy posted a pizza-pavlova on Twitter, a variation on the classic Kiwi dessert except with slices of salami instead of strawberries.

6:51 AM
Oh god
This is so awesome
I knew WW3 was going to happen sooner or later, I didn't think it would be a food fight.

@Telkitty if it's not permanent, then it's temporary. Or do you have better suggestion?
"This account is semi-permanently suspended network-wide" doesn't sound nice...

user202362
really?

user202362
you can be just suspended

user202362
not temporarily or permanently

then add that as a suggestion to your question to improve your stance?

7:03 AM
@Telkitty the idea is its pretty much impossible to get banned
We'll either murderate the hell out of your account, or you can come back eventually.

user202362

@JonEricson Isn't that kinda a museum right now?
I can't unsee it as "Ultra-Violet"

@ShadowWizard at this point he should just be suspended. It's moving from consistently contrarian, to unacceptably insulting.

@Bart Frankly, it's either that 1. He's intentionally trolling, or 2. He's non-native and the language barrier isn't helping his case, or 3. He's not been to any mature conversations, like people younger than 13 years old or so

@Bart agreed. Wonder why it's not done yet...

oh, back.
Well, 100 seconds or so. Not bad. :)
Still, taking down the whole network for "some maintenance"? ...
Wonder if there will be meta posts "Why the site was down?"

This is such a weirdly good question. It might be the only question I've ever seen on that site that seems to call for some sort of actual "hack".
I encourage reopen votes.
I'll be so sad if that stays closed while lifehacks.stackexchange.com/questions/2090/… stays at the top of the question list.

@JasonC Meh, that stayed there probably because it was asked during private Beta

It stayed there because nobody went back to clean it up and the users it attracts help them life-hack their area 51 stats into looking good.

7:32 PM
"Can I print this voicemail? I need to save it for later."
> An agency hired me to take photographs of the installations and directive board of a large enterprise. They didn’t wanted to spend a lot of money, so they only hired me and an assistant, no makeup or stylist.

The CEO arrived, his assistant told me that he only had few minutes because he had a meeting in another city. We took a couple pictures of the full board, and a couple more of individual portraits, five minutes total. We showed them the pictures and they were happy, then he left to the airport. I delivered the final pictures a few days later.

LifeHacks is #10 in closed question %, #30 in deleted %, way above the median in both.

8:02 PM
Maybe there is a good lifehack to improve those stats?

Maybe rub the stats with baby-wipes to make them shine?

Either that, or put them in a bag of rice to soak up the excess stats?

Do you need whole-grain rice or will Uncle Ben's do?

Should be fine. Don't use rice porridge though. That won't help
