Respected sir(s), if you will categorize such questions as 'homework questions', then this site is no use to me for now, as each of my questions will be 'homework questions'. Because I am not a researcher or a graduating student, I'm just a high-school student who studies Physics, Chemistry, Math and Language. Sorry, but I meant no disrespect. I am just willing to know your suggestions, about these homework questions and where I could ask them. P.S. I am looking for a site like Art of Problem Solving for not only Chemistry, but also Physics and Biology. — Eeshan Banerjee 57 secs ago
Ooooh yeah, it was important @Stijn

5:06 PM
@M.A.R. So they intend to post all of their homework on the site and wait for someone to post the solution? :p

user315433
Don't ask what use is the site for you, ask what use you are for the site.

user315433
That's a lot of 3-4 letter words...

17 to be exact.
I don't know why I counted them

it was a test. You passed

didn't know there are chat audits now :)

5:11 PM
Yes, there are. You need to pay attention otherwise you might miss a Bart-ism

@Gerry That's weirdly awesome.
I would totally buy that if I had $2000 and a floor that I trusted to support 8 tons.
@rene I call that "Bartwork", or "Bartistry".

Yeah, better

See also "Ew, who Barted?"
Somebody Barted all over the star wall.

Stackexchange network has the best structure of all the websites I've seen yet. It is so systematic and simple. So many portals it have, yet With only user-Id and passwords, all could be accessed. Same or different personal information could be entered for the profile pages of each portals. No duplicate copies of posts digitally generated.
Comment could be left behind each original post and its answers.
Throughout my life I've seen so many websites but this is my dream website. It is so ideal, so classic, so basic.

@AlwaysConfused So easy to understand.

user334271
5:19 PM
Thank you

Always glad to help, lol.
I wanted to make sure your username stayed accurate.
Can't have you going around being only somewhat confused.

user334271
Is it aggressive / vulgare / inappropriate / something like that?

user334271
@JasonC

What is?

Lol I don't understand this conversation. Let's talk about something else instead.
Like the fact that nobody cares about internetsociety.org/blog/public-policy/2017/03/… because they're all too distracted debating the gender-neutrality of the term "man-hours". God dammit.

user334271
5:27 PM
Okay I already got this complaint from another user on SE. I've entered it to FAQ at my profile page. biology.stackexchange.com/users/25568/…

I can't wait until one day, when ISPs start restricting access to information and public forums from the USA, everybody suddenly realizes that they lost their ability to sit around griping about the potus' russian connections or whatever, and wonders how that slipped under the radar.

FAQ: (based-upon questions that are off-topic, but require answer)

Why I had chosen this Pen-name?

As Niels Bohr said, "I've not answer to every question, but I've question to every answer". For me, being confused is not a guilt. Rather if anyone around me feel confused (in serious-sense, not joking or criticising), i'm proud for them that persons are actively thinking intricate problem.

"All models are wrong. Some models are useful" - George Box. -> ALL our ideas are "models". (copied and pasted from a discussion by another user)

And then I can say, "screw you all, this is your fault".

I always confused why you used that name. ran away

@AlwaysConfused you changed your name?

5:28 PM
@AlwaysConfused Literally nobody here is questioning your choice of display name.
I just thought it was funny since we were talking about confusion and clarity.

@AlwaysConfused are you "@normalhuman" ?

user334271
I responded so due to this talk "I wanted to make sure your *username* stayed accurate.

Can't have you going around being only *somewhat confused*." Not so good at english sorri if I understod something else.

the joke is on @JasonC

user334271
No no I did not changed username yet

user334271
@Fawad

5:32 PM
@AlwaysConfused Yes, I linked you to a confusing meta post. Then the joke was that I wanted to make sure you stayed thoroughly confused, true to your display name, lol.

user334271
Ohh but it wasn't that much irrelevant. :

user334271
@JasonC

user334271
It contained the statement "To be clear, I think it's a great system" in yur ans.

Great!

user334271
So I thought you gave me this to read

5:35 PM
(off-topic, but turned out I was too lazy at that time...)

user334271
I didn't find any cause to considering at irrelevant. But now I'm feeling "somewhat confused" about

(hopefully the reference is correct)

@Fawad Gerry is/was Normal Human.

user334271
contd "Yes, I linked you to a confusing meta post. Then the joke was that I wanted to make sure you stayed thoroughly confused, true to your display name, lol."

Oh no, "Always Confused" is "somewhat confused"...
nvm :)

Looks like newbie entered just by chance, and not aware about structure and purpose at SE

@AlwaysConfused That's clearly offensive! And I don't believe that was by chance :-/

Well, I guess I also realized that there are other sites other than Stack Overflow after... 1 year?

A new PM just started last week ... great. Do we know who it is? It doesn't look like the team page is updated /cc @Gerry

But back then, I was just a passerby to solve my homework

5:47 PM
Have your homework solved?

@AlwaysConfused Check my avatar and my profile ;-)

Luckily, they have been asked before, so... yes ;p

user334271
@πάνταῥεῖ Hmmm coffee

@AlwaysConfused Sure at a 1st glance :-D

user334271
:-D

5:50 PM
@Stijn There are Q&A devs, but they're currently being managed by PMs in charge of other projects. It's not a complete roadblock, but it's enough of a complication to slow things down. The good news is that we have a Q&A PM starting this week! It's gonna take some time for him to ramp up on what's going on, though, so I would expect the next while to still be a bit slow on the CR side. — Adam Lear ♦ Mar 28 at 2:45

> Oh, there's still five minutes. I'm not used to being on time, I'm always late.
- English prof, two and a half minutes early

@bjb568 Your lack of emdashes is unforgivable

I'll put an — in your eye ...

@rene +1 for putting an —. -1 for putting a "..."

—1 for you then

6:33 PM
AAAAH an elephant

-1, not pink

@M.A.R. I never got how to get to the original cites, from such. Is there a way?

@πάνταῥεῖ What? I didn't get what you said

Your lack of ○○ is unforgivable

Lack of binoculars?

6:35 PM
@M.A.R. There are often cites like these (the one of @bjb568 actually), and I don't get where these come originally from.

> I find your lack of faith disturbing.

@πάνταῥεῖ You mean how to format blockquotes?

@M.A.R. No, I mean how to find the original of those quotes. History is the right thing?

O.O You won't be able to find the original if they don't cite a source.

I somewhat confused

6:38 PM
> Haha
renders as
> Haha
If there's any confusion

@M.A.R. So these kinda cites always leave me without context and in confusion ;-)
I'm just too dumb for chatting :-P

yes?

That is a fact then because cited...

@rene A cite without original source is quite useless?

6:45 PM
> This quote is false

@πάνταῥεῖ not when I want to present it as alternative fact

@Elephant You're not a pink elephant so I won't tend to listen to you ...

@πάνταῥεῖ you only listen to pink elephants?

@rene :C= I'm quite sick about "Alternative Facts" nowadays!

hmm, there's a surprising amount of pink elephants on google images

6:47 PM
Can't be helped... the color should give a reference to the other reference

@Stijn Not solely, but pink elephants may have serious points. I know at least one good from the SOCVR

@πάνταῥεῖ Yeah, I have remarkable facts, alternative, about the influence of BS on overall satisfaction.

@rene I always listen to nightshades!

Good edit suggestions by new 1-rep user. Now, that

keyboard shortcut popup isn't showing for me (i mean this: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/237166 ) anyone else?

6:52 PM
is something you don't see everyday

(shortcuts still work, but now i need to have them memorized)

> When enabled, press ? for help
did you try that?
no repro on Chrome 57, Windows 10 though, the popup appeared on the lower left corner
(how the heck I typo-ed "corner" into "cornent"..)

@Stijn "Dammit, you WILL pay attention to my wordings!!"

@Frank you have them still enabled in your profile /preferences, right?

@rene yeah

7:01 PM
It can be a per site setting

the shortcuts work, but the popup is invisible. strangely on its meta site, it's still visible

is this on SO?

yeah, sorry, forgot to mention that

@Frank rene is right. it's per-site setting (it's even under Site Setting inside Preference)

@Frank which browser and OS? Not all functions work in IE6

7:03 PM
oh wait, nvm.. wrong issue then

You're still on IE6?

@rene chrome, win 8 -- but it does work in the same browser on meta.SO. if y'all aren't seeing it, though, i bet it's some issue on my end
err, win 7, i mean

that is new enough

@Frank no repro either on SO.. I still could see the popup

@Elephant ok, thanks

7:05 PM
yeah, same for me, Chrome, win10
Does the dev console reveal anything?

@rene i'm not actually a web dev, but that's the view i see with F12? nothing visibly changes there after pressing "g"

@Frank I see. Press ? then H to re-enable auto-help.

@Frank yeah, you would want to do refresh and then see if anything red appears

@Elephant thanks! fixed

ah! We have an happy customer

7:10 PM
Apparently the help popup other than ? key

good to know
thanks to y'all both, see you around

see you too :)

2 hours later…
9:19 PM
@M.A.R. Oh, I didn't realize it was supposed to be an em dash.
30
A: Appropriate dash to use when attributing a quotation?

tchristGiven these choices: U+2010 ‭ ‐ HYPHEN U+2011 ‭ ‑ NON-BREAKING HYPHEN U+2012 ‭ ‒ FIGURE DASH U+2013 ‭ – EN DASH U+2014 ‭ — EM DASH U+2015 ‭ ― HORIZONTAL BAR U+2212 ‭ − MINUS SIGN U+2E17 ‭ ⸗ DOUBLE OBLIQUE HYPHEN The right answer is actually U+2015, whose alternate name is indeed “quota...

So "-" is for between two words (dash), "–" for between two numbers (range), and "—" for bigger things.

@bjb568 Ultra-hypenated words are still not dashes in a Bose–Einstein condensate.

Hmph, hyphen then.

@JasonC sure, in a minute!

user315433
DevOps got mods, so for the time being, every site has moderators.

9:36 PM
@Gerry except MSE
hmm.... why is there an @Elephant in the room? ;-)
So, @Ele you figured the meaning of @Gerry?
(or just used something random?)
Best was soup with meatballs though.
Can't beat that.

@ShadowWizard this is the only reference that I got when researching it (him?)

Gerry the Elephant?!

Nooooo
Well, thanks for your reverse image search, I think

Certainly not that, but I lol'ed

9:42 PM
@Elephant for me it just brings his profiles across SE. :/

Oops, I misspoke. I meant, the conclusion from that result.

yesterday, by Shadow Wizard
@Gerry made SE into a dessert

heh, that typo

typo though, but that's the keyword
a person name + a place

9:45 PM
@Elephant which brings this as top result:
Gerry is a 2002 American drama film directed by Gus Van Sant and starring Matt Damon and Casey Affleck, who also co-wrote the film with Van Sant. It is the first film of Van Sant's "Death Trilogy", three films based on deaths that occurred in real life, and is succeeded by Elephant (2003) and Last Days (2005). Frequently cited as an example of non-narrative cinema, Gerry is noted, among other things, for its slow pacing and unvarying set pieces. == Overview == Gerry follows two hiking companions who both go by the name "Gerry". "Gerry" is also a slang term, used by both protagonists throughout...
oh, I see the elephant now

user315433
@Elephant gets 200 Jeopardy! points.

user315433
I've never been to Death Valley, though... the picture is taken in Monument Valley, back in 2005...

hehe, searching for the name plus chat profile text brings this: gerryhassan.com/blog/…
Any chance Gerry is your real name?! @Gerry :)
Though likely no different than Sally...
Anyway, the only person who did better job in identity changing was CRABOLO.
@M.A.R. had some funny changes too, but way behind.

user315433
Does this mean Yahoo! Answers will be Oath Answers now?

10:51 PM
Unstoppable team, eh

@Gerry So that's it, huh. The final end of the Yahoo and AOL brands?
It's so crazy how the world changes over time. I've only recently begun to be comfortable with it.
Moment of silence:
6.0, not good enough. Let's see...
Oh ho ho:
> The future, now available.
And the winner is...
I know the guy who had the patent on the cloth inserts in floppy disks.
He's insanely rich. He lives out in the middle of Pennsylvania.
He also has the patent on the honeycomb process used to build the passenger compartment floors in virtually every commercial airplane. And some laminating method for constructing skis.

That sounds like he left SO specifically to join Toptal... which is not how I remember the story.

@Gerry Post 1: Could not find data for this post in the API. It may already have been deleted.

user315433
Hm, nuked 11 seconds after my flag (which was the first one). Apparently the queue isn't that long.

@JasonC I've seen such stuff was punched and archived into a binder
@JasonC "He's insanely rich. He lives out in the middle of Pennsylvania." Doesn't help much! Epecially not He lives out in the middle of Pennsylvania.!

@JasonC I think they are keeping the brands. Just merging it into one holding company
@Gerry now now, diplomacy. Technically, he did sort of. With a gap in between. And a blog post and...

11:52 PM
@Gerry Yeah, you know... when we were talking about Toptal the other day I was impressed with their service.
Now I just kinda feel mildly weird about it, lol.
But, to be fair, they're probably just excited.

I look at all this stuff (see also, articles calling someone's new social media service "the Stack Overflow of artisinal breadboard design" or whatever) as, "oh hey, SO has coattails now". It's cool, a good place to be.
Also, yeah, means that they're excited to have Sklivvz, as they should be.
