@bjb568 It's one of those canons that repeats, you see.

Ah.
Like déjà vu again.

That one doesn't modulate though; it just goes round and back and round again.
Unlike that one, which ever rises.
Your job, young sir, is to figure out where he snuck one by you and slipped into another key.

@JourneymanGeek Btw, did you really just verb "tuna cannon"?

@JasonC .... maybe?

/me tuna cannons all the things
I tuna cannoned my pants. :(

That sounds uncomfortably euphamistic.

It's only uncomfortable at first.

Q: Directing Prior Art Searches from Ask Patents

At Stack Overflow, keeping your information safe is our top concern. And as a community with over 40 million people each month, it has to be: Our success has made us a frequent target of attacks.

Computer security is always evolving. Passwords are you “what you know.” Smart cards are “what you have.” We decided to ask “how you do you.”

Today we’re proud to publicly launch that latest evolution.

This security update is the result of years of work, requiring advances in many fields such as computer vision, AI and advanced calisthenics. …

Q: Chat bug with displaying starred message in Hebrew

Alma DoI've noticed that there is a bug in displaying Hebrew symbols when a message is starred. Here we go: The message sample: Message is starred: As you can see, it's displayed wrong (I guess because of Hebrew direction).

@Shog9 not exactly
this is to do with when you delete stuff with RTL escape I think

This year for april fool's i'm going to pretend to pay my april rent.

@DestructibleLemon it's not deleted. There's just nothing there besides the RTL
so, it messes up the rendering

user202362

that's not funny.

bizarre. Cannot reproduce.

4:28 AM
Oh oh oh, you should make every se domain redirect to a random site.

platform dependent I guess

don't tell me... You're using Safari?

firefox
undefined behaviour I guess

oh, well good, I can at least test that.

at least it isn't nasal demons
Apparently it is your fault

4:29 AM
4
ok, I see it.

ok now its showing up as a thin line for me
odd
so does it just decide randomly?
did you delete the message yet?

@DestructibleLemon no.
Firefox just collapses it vertically

see what happens if you delete the message
or did you already

So as a message by itself, it just looks like a thin line; if you follow it with a normal message, it just looks like a slightly taller normal message.
Buuuut....

sometimes it looks deleted

4:32 AM
if you post a message, delete that message, post that RTL thing, then post a normal message...

I don't know what you're talking about but i can confirm that little blank message renders as a blank message on chrome and as nothing on firefox, windows 7, if it helps.

all you'll see on FF will be the (deleted) message, an imperceptably thin line, and a normal message.
And so you'll think it's showing a starred, deleted message.

And I do not see a (deleted) on firefox.

observe:
that is not deleted ^
@DestructibleLemon ^

4:34 AM
what it looks like in Chrome

very weird

Which all goes to say, it's that damn RTL thing I linked to above.

@JourneymanGeek You know, fwiw, I'd be totally down with putting weight of ask patents stuff on other communities in general. I'd love to see more general social responsibility for squashing bs patents, myself.
It actually bothers me greatly how much I like the idea of AP but how little I'm actually involved there. I keep talking about getting more involved then I puss out. I really ought to put my money where my mouth is.
Ok. Web application. Rapid development. Low initial overhead. Sane ORM. What are my options? Sane ORM rules out node.js. Low initial overhead rules out Java. Really don't feel like configuring hibernate or dicking around with tomcat config. What're the cool kids using?
Ruby on rails? That's what metasmoke uses I think.
PHP makes me want to punch things
Python + Flask?
+ SQLAlchemy?
@ShadowWizard You around?
Just... talkin to myself. Doo dee doo.
@Shog9 Can I get your opinion on a faq-proposed related to meta.stackexchange.com/a/293145? I'd like to add a list of site-specific keys: data dump database names, SEDE url paths, domain name prefixes (including redirects like garage -> mechanics), and API site names. But I'm debating what's actually useless vs useful there. The db names are the real goal, the rest I dunno. And in that case I'm torn between adding it to the data dump schema docs mse post vs. making a new post for it.
Any thoughts?

@JasonC got sucked into gaming again
then went and realised my mod queue was at an unacceptable level so I was putting a dent on it ;p

I thought clearing the mod queue is the ultimate game.
There are battles, weird creatures, experience gained, and even boss fights.

Oh, we usually keep ours at zero. Someone seems to have gotten clever and is mass flagging profanity.
Do those even get counted for the flag badges?

@JourneymanGeek sure, flag is a flag.

5:56 AM
Same like one character edits.

and no risk of flag ban. And they are "valid" flags anyway
so, editing where needed, deleting when not. Dismissing in some cases.
especially when its a half decade old comment ._.
Also catches when people spell disk as dick.

Wait... if it's just matter of edit, you should decline the flag and tell the user to suggest an edit. That's their job, not the moderator's.

@ShadowWizard ahh, these are comments ;p

If the whole post is offensive, the red flag should be used.

My guess is he's got a SEDE script for those
They arn't offensive in the gross sense

5:59 AM
Yeah, SEDE keeps the mods busy

and profanity is against the letter and spirit of the rules.
Block flagging 20-30 questions at a time though. eh.
and I don't consider many of these words that bad

Still, user should edit/suggest edit to remove the bad words, moderator should intervene only in extreme cases. Or maybe it's different on smaller sites, where moderators do have time for this. ;)

@ShadowWizard comments. Users can't edit ;p
this is essentially stuff like

Q: What's our threshold for profanity in comments?

Journeyman GeekI just handled a bunch of flags on older comments, flagging the use of the word "bitch" as "complain" or "is a pain". Now certain words (mostly ones with 4 letters for some reason), I can get - but in this case, it seems like common, generally mildly inoffensive usage - talking about a situation...

@ShadowWizard essentially that.
anyway, its done, I can stop being grumpy about it ;p

and go back to gaming.

I wonder, does the brain have sectors? Can a sector become corrupted?
Well...
UTC+14:00 is an identifier for a +14 hour time offset from UTC. This is the earliest time zone on earth, meaning that areas in this zone are the first to see a new day, and therefore the first to celebrate a New Year. This is also the latest time zone on earth, meaning that clocks show the latest time of all zones. UTC+14 stretches as far as 30° east of the 180° longitude line and creates a large fold in the International Date Line. == As standard time (all year round) == === Oceania === Kiribati Line Islands - including Kiritimati (Christmas Island) The IANA time zone database zone identifier is...

I'd suggest site names, canonical URLs, aliases and database names would be a good set of info there; consider the common use-cases:
- map site name to data
- map site URL to data
- map post URL to data
- compose URL for data
- group data by site name/url
we should be able to generate this automatically though :-/
