DevOps is in public beta now.

New job ad: Sales Internship‌. "Collaborate with sales pod (5-7 sales reps) to qualify new opportunities, build proposals and drive net-new sales"

user315433
I didn't know that a group of sales reps was called a pod.

user315433
What's a group of programmers called?

user315433
An actually, someone (Jeff?) said once.

12:50 AM
@NormalHuman Lol

@SmokeDetector Markdown police, arrest this bot.

Lol

1:53 AM
It's got nothin' on:
Why would you do that

2:17 AM
@JasonC ._.
TLDS? ;p

@JourneymanGeek TLDS?

Too Long Didn't Scroll
;p

SCROLL!
The scroll bar is the tragedy.

I'm sure the web dev was extremely talented. And completely pissed off.

Do it and be horrified.
Lol probably

2:24 AM
That's actually not ugly

Oh no, the graphic design is impressive.
The scrolling is annoying as hell. Also I wonder what that page is like on mobile.

Its terrible on 4k

Oh god

I need to scroll down 2 pagedowns worth for the next screen
Yup
I'd eat my hat (without sauce) if this wasn't intentional

Also find-on-page fails.
I want to bitch about printability, but... who prints stuff.

2:27 AM
The sort of people this sort of thing is aimed at?

Heh
I like how the + on the social media bar only adds two more things.
All that saved space.

And there's a share menu on the right

Haha I didn't even see that.

"Say, ed, we need links to all the social medias!" "There's too many! We can't have more than 3
"Say ed. WE NEED A SHARE MENU"
and what the hell is the find a domain link there for?
"We need to convert people reading the site to sales ed." "Why don't I add a cryptic button" "Nice work ed. You get extra gruel tonight"

Oh man; the Verisign home page: verisign.com
Those two view buttons expand things from the top. It's... disorienting.

2:31 AM
how big are these guys screens?

Then when you scroll down the expanded area disappears and the scroll jumps.

I always thought landing screens had to fit nicely on one screen.
I'm no UI guy of course

I was just thinking that. The "explore security solutions" hover pop-up on that DNS page is a few pixels taller than my monitor.

It loads ok on a 4k screen. Which is... oddly enough, not ok

Ha. Oh man I saw the worst search dialog ever the other day, now I can't remember where it is now... let me see...

2:33 AM
(so, that's why 8k displays are coming out. So you can view verisign's webpage on a single... oh wait. You would still have to scroll)

Damn there's no way I'm going to be able to find it. It was some page with a search box at the top of the screen, but when you clicked it the box got huge, centered, and the whole thing expanded to take up the entire window, it was absurd.
I hate when people make me chase input controls around with my mouse.

@JasonC Think of it as a test of how awesome you are

I think my least favorite scrollbar trick is those pages where the background scrolls slower than the foreground and tries to line up with different sections of the page, I forget what that's called.

Ah you're on mobile. The Android browser doesn't support extensions, AdBlock's got a special browser.

naw, adblock uses a fake VPN to do its filtering

Yeah, for the general purpose blocker. But they've got a browser, too.

Based on this year's SO Developer Survey, 27.5% of users use SO Docs as guidance.
I guess I should give it another chance?

Do you mean, a chance for the survey to repent?

I guess that also works

@AndrewT. Maybe that's why so many SO users ask so many crappy questions. They should probably start looking at actual documentation.
Star jinx!

@AndrewT. As much as I'd love to see this be correct, I suspect people misread/misunderstood the answer.

6:07 AM
I was curious though since SO Docs is not yet indexed by Google..
Apparently I was wrong, but to get SO Docs link from Google result... was hard.

It's indexed, but Docs isn't being returned high in the results just yet. We can probably change that, but it's not worth driving traffic to the content. Some topics are pretty good, but many are not.

Yeah, I don't think it's a good idea to make it higher for now...

@JourneymanGeek you plan to go to this hotel? dailycaller.com/2016/08/31/… ;-)

@ShadowWizard even sons of bitches have standards ;p

@JasonC oh oops. But still, the migration back to MSE, if it would have happened, would leave a revision for sure.
So I'm still right. :)
@JourneymanGeek haha, so your dog is taking a Stand? :D

Hi (sorry for bad English)

@Fawad but.... what's the joke? :/

What is probability of saying word "Hi" to had to say bad English?

"Hi" is proper English
And so is "hey"
even "hoy!"

But not hoo
That's important

8:04 AM
boo hoo hoo

Also in Australia an acceptable greeting is "G'day mate", or "Howdy mate" or "Give me the meth and no one gets hurt"
2

Ho ho ho ...

In Israel we use Arab word, many people don't even realize it's Arabic. "Ahalan!" /cc @Oded ;)

Muslims everywhere greets in Arabic word "assalamualaikum" asking for blessings for them from Allah
@ShadowWizard /cc means?

I thought the joke was that @Fawad said "hi" after we were talking about a bunch of "high" things (Docs ranking in Google).

8:11 AM
that will do, the joke is on you

@Fawad yup I know :)
@JasonC ohhhhhh.... lol

@ShadowWizard yeah, a lot of modern Hebrew is borrowed from Arabic, in particularly slang and swearing (mostly not classical Arabic, but that spoken in the region)
Also - hi everyone!

hi @Oded!

o/

@Oded most good swearwords are colloquial, not classical ;p

@JourneymanGeek That makes my brain short circuit.

@JasonC I can type fluent Spanish: fluent Spanish

What is that "other" job that get paid a little over $70k in 10 years... curious!

@Derpy no wet wipes, useless.
@AndrewT. maybe @Jon knows? ;)

@Derpy It's described as "more appropriate for those who had some educational background", so I don't think it fits.
Besides, it encourages experimenting with how the world around you works. Definitely not good for your average LH user who probably can't figure out how to get themselves out of a cardboard box without consulting the internet.

> Fix CIA Hacking Notepad++ issue (https://wikileaks.org/ciav7p1/cms/page_26968090.html).
really..

10:08 AM
@AndrewT. the fix doesn't matter very much, but it's better than doing nothing

What on earth the CIA could get from hijacking that?

> Checking the certificate of DLL makes it harder to hack. Note that once users’ PCs are compromised, the hackers can do anything on the PCs. This solution only prevents from Notepad++ loading a CIA homemade DLL. It doesn't prevent your original notepad++.exe from being replaced by modified notepad++.exe while the CIA is controlling your PC.
>
> Just like knowing the lock is useless for people who are willing to go into my house, I still shut the door and lock it every morning when I leave home. We are in a f**king corrupted world, unfortunately.
> It doesn't mean that CIA is interested in your coding skill or in your sex message content typed in Notepad++, but rather it prevents raising any red flags while the DLL does data collection in the background.
It's basically cyber war and nobody can do anything about it due to the US being a super power. Similar to how nobody could stop Russia from annexing Crimea, we just had to let it happen.

@Stijn you mean they send whatever people are editing/typing in Notepad++ to their servers?
(if it match some red flag trigger?)
So if someone writes "I want to kill Trump" in Notepad++ before the fix, the CIA will come over and arrest them. Cool!

and now you're on the watchlist

uh oh
runs

asking for shelter in Russia

10:21 AM
@ShadowWizard no, they abuse the "trusted" status of Notepad++ to do data collection unrelated to whatever you're typing in Notepad++
at least that's how I understand it, could be mistaken

guilty of writing 'bush hid the facts' on Notepad++

@Jason so no user leaderboard for smileys? :(
Bush is still relevant??

lol... so weird... and funny!

10:46 AM
This could be expanded into 'are the SE sites forums'

They asked for my feedback, so I gave them honest feedback.

@Mithrandir many tried, OP keeps rolling it back, see @Jason's comment
@Stijn lol! Word got an app?! :D

@ShadowWizard Well, I figured I'd try again

@Mithrandir pointless, OP will reject or roll it back.

@ShadowWizard it's just the standard Word program, I guess it's hip these days to call everything an app :p

10:56 AM
@Stijn lol
Oh, I think in Windows 10 everything is an app, yeah.

@ShadowWizard I actually didn't see the previous edits, I just figured it should be expanded...

@Mithrandir well, I agree, but also think OP has the right to decide scope, so not starting edit war. Leaving it for other to decide, e.g. CM can migrate it to MSO. Or force changing it by locking.
@Fawad is here!

Yep

@ShadowWizard is here

@πάνταῥεῖ sis not here :(
@Fawad whoa that's long! In Hebrew it's just four letters: שלום

@ShadowWizard It's a full-fledged formal 'hi'.

@ShadowWizard שלום גם לך

11:02 AM
No such thing in Hebrew, I think
@Mithrandir lol, hey you're from Israel too right?
I keep forgetting :/

נכון

ךםך
;)

@ShadowWizard Neither in Persian. But I guess you can make up one. 'Greeting and hello to my great friends and peace be to you all today' or somesuch

Also, you could say that שלום is the formal greeting. Most people just use 'allo ;P

@M.A.R. oh

11:03 AM
It's religious, so it's become kinda fixed, and thus used more often than it otherwise would be.

@Stijn so instead you reach 20k flags/close votes? ;)

@ShadowWizard that doesn't unlock privileges unfortunately :p
So far the DevOps beta is rather disappointing, after the original influx of "How to do X in Jenkins", there don't seem to be a whole lot of things to ask
I guess the topic is too narrow to warrant its own site

> I'm super excited to hear how this is supposed to work. I mean, if a dev can do 100 pages in a day (which I think is quite a lot) then it's going to take 136 years to make all 5 million pages. With no holidays. Or weekends off. Ever.
