Being late can cost you everything. You can get fired or seriously reprimanded from work for that, you can fail entire university exams by showing up late, you can fail entire uni courses for consistently showing up late.

And drive by voting, uninformed voting, and low turnout are failings of democracy because they unduely influence the outcome

If it were to work absolutely correctly, voting would have to be mandatory and everyone would have to be correctly and well informed

And the well informed point is why it's so error prone - you can very easily convince people to vote against their own best interest using propaganda and such.

Both in Brexit and in the US election so many people feel like the democratic process has had a so disastrously bad outcome this time that it's time to abandon it alltogether

Made apparent by things like people petitioning the high court or parliament to block brexit or people calling to impeach trump on day1 and pence on day2 and to institute a permanent fillibuster until 2020.

Democracy is an active process. If there really is a majority upset over the outcome, they didn't turn out in those numbers and only have themselves to blame. It's not the process that failed, it's them. But if there is no so majority, then the process worked just fine.

It's also besides the point. People won't blame themselves for not turning out. They'll blame the process instead. Like I said (I don't really agree with people all blaming the process) antidemocratic sentiment only grows in the US/UK atm

The last time this happened over here was thoroughly unpleasant for everyone involved.

It sure is. Although I believe it to be a temporary effect in this case. People thought (fueled by news media) that their candidate/choice could never lose. And guess what ... upsets happened. And introspection is not what people tend to go for in such cases. But give it time.

@Pandya No, it also posts meta answers by SE employees, as well as their comments and edits (I'm unsure about the value of posting edits, but sometimes they are important). As a bonus, the room demonstrates that the script grabbing new items from feeds sometimes fails to work for hours.
