I did not know there was a chat.meta.stackexchange.com on top of the usual chat.stackexchange.com; SE surprises me every day!

though, I am not exactly doing particularly well on SO

But the point of meta is to NOT have a hive mind. I can almost predict the answers and comments from the usual crowd, including my own. It needs refreshing ideas with a fresh look on unsolved problems.
Best part is when I answer completely different from my own prediction.

I have plenty of ideas and suggestions, but feel i should be cautious at this stage to make sure I get a better understanding of how the system works, what are the dynamics of the place and most of all, not to be a PITA.

@bluefeet @shog9 I'm trying to get statistics to see if the claim made about meta-review culture is true. As the reviewtasks are anonymous in SEDE I can only get this data. What I would like to know is, per close voter with their reputation, how many times they: closed voted on the question (organic); close voted from review; were the first to cast a close vote.
If you rather have it anonymized I'm fine with having it grouped on reputation/1000
If you have time to create and run the query on meta.so I would be very pleased
I'm not sure if deleted questions would change much in the outcome.

I see that on meta a lot
some people really like to gang up on people asking for help on meta
e.g the treatment a'la "Why did my question get downvoted" "-10" "-20" "Because it sucks, unsalvageable, go read help" {meta q gets downvoted to -10, closed and deleted 20 minutes later, linked question gets the same treatment}

gang up is not the issue addressed in that meta post
I do agree the regulars are sometimes harsh in their comments

I am a regular
And I feel the harshness sometimes

That has nothing to do with users that patrol the queues

9:29 AM
It does though

@Magisch I agree on that

Its almost as if some users do nothing all day except try to disparage people on meta, be it through telling them they suck or through CVing their questions
there is also some mind boggeling robo reviewing going on

@Magisch maybe, maybe not, It is just that the regulars/activist user make a first call and then some caretakers finish it off. Calling out the caretakers is just wrong IMHO.

Robo-reviewing is not a meta exclusive though. Just more apparent due to the smaller volume

Sure @Bart
but meta is where users come to get their disputes resolved
having a culture of silencing dissent (thats what closing and deleting normal questions you disagree with comes down to) there is dangerous

9:32 AM
Are they closed out of disagreement?

Feels like it often

(Genuinely wondering, because I don't experience it as such)

sometimes unpopular feature requests get closed as cannot reproduce
like what

You have no prove for that

@Magisch if you ever see that happen, feel free to ping me and I'll vote to reopen.

And what I'm getting at is that we could alter how post scores are displayed without breaking anything, @Mari-LouA. Spam still disappears with 6 flags, but appears to have a score of 0 right up until deletion; lousy questions drop off the homepage at -4, but still appear to have a score of 0. Heck, we could even do this only for the authors of the posts themselves, and get rid of the distraction (and often counter-productive feelings of rage at seeing their work rejected) while still warning other readers that they may wish to look elsewhere... IOW, attack the perception, not the system. — Shog9 ♦ 5 hours ago

user315433
Yes, of course only for the author of the post. Hiding downvotes from other users would be a disservice to them.

user315433
A dramatic reduction of "why the downvote" whining is likely...

user315433
(Although some 3rd parties feel compelled to post such a comment anyway.)

That would hide to the author though that their post is bad. Shouldn't they need that input to (hopefully) improve?

user315433

So, if there is a critical comment, they'll still see that.

Hmm, fair. Maybe some just-in-time feedback or something would help - if your post was downvoted, the system displays some tips on how to make sure your question is clear and well-written.

@hichris123 I didn't say I was happy and lazy.
