A: Visiting the Developer Story Preferences tab makes the story tab visible, even if I never touch the checkbox

Shog9This is fixed now, but not in the way I expected. Turns out, I was extremely confused as to how this was supposed to work... And what that option was supposed to do in the first place. Since bluefeet and the rest of the Story team took some time to explain things to me, I figured I'd write up my ...

> This goes back to the original charter for the "Dev Story" feature: the long-term goal is to replace the "bio" section, the one that shows up on the first page of the profile.
Boo. We go from old profile (functional) to new profile (shiny) to dev story (um, something I guess?).
Turned that (very) confusing setting off; I'm likely never going to have a Dev Story and thus have no need for an empty tab.

Profile of Theseus
Anyway, it's not done until there's an envelope on it

Well, I sure hope it doesn't get done... it would make the new shiny and not as useful profile even less useful.

@hichris123 keep in mind, the purpose of that first page has little if no overlap with the sorts of things you do on these sites.
Or me, for that matter.
That's true now

A: New profile pages are out - bugs and feedback master list

hichris123status-declined - we may revisit this at a later date. Allow us to default to the Activity page rather than the Profile page A lot of times, when I'm going to someone's profile, I don't care about their website, location, age, profile description, etc. I care about their posts, their edits, the...

Fortunately, I'm mod everywhere so I always see the useful page.

Fortunately.

Before that was true, I just wrote a userscript to do the same.

user202362
then you didn't donate the script to the rest of us? what a shame!

it was... pretty heavily customized to my own uses

If something necessitates a userscript for more than a small number of people... something needs fixing.

guessing most of you don't need "merge" and "delete" as the first two links on every user page

No, but it could be integrated with the punch userscript...

Forgot to tell you, @Magisch: a post deletion triggered that recalc, but we weren't able to figure out, off the bat, where the rep loss came from. Adam will dig more when he has time.

@JNat recalc, rep loss.... sounds like I missed some drama?

No drama. Magisch lost some rep, and asked why. I had a look, and couldn't figure out why.
Wouldn't call it drama :)

@JNat Shouldn't post deletions show up
If they don't then they should

@Magisch The post that triggered it is in your rep tab (make sure the checkbox at the bottom is checked). The title was "spring security + primefaces custom login"
However, the rep you lost does not seem to be associated with that post
Hence the need to dig further to understand what it's about
We know what triggered the recalc, but not where the rep came from
Basically, a post got deleted. You had downvoted that post, so a recalc was triggered, and you got 1 rep back. But that recalc also caused that 200 something loss.
And we're not yet sure what that's about
Was that clear, @Magisch? :)

@JNat o_O
I can only assume docs shenanigans then
@JNat Does a downvoted answer that gets deleted always trigger a recalc?
Because that happens at least 3 times for me on a usual day. I flag lots and lots of NAA and often times I also downvote them.

@Magisch I think so. And looking at your history, it appears so too, yeah.
@Shog9 might know better, though

Mhm
@JNat Then what happened must be something in the grand scheme of the site changed between my last recalc and the one yesterday noon for me
Something that caused my total rep to evaluate lower

10:41 AM
Yeah. Just not sure what yet :P

Must be frustrating to dig through

I assume so :\

If that really is a recalc every time it may be wise for me to stop downvoting NAA
So that that doesn't happen like 10 times a day
@JNat I'm sorry that I'm taking up so much cm time :(

Nah, don't sweat it ;)

11:00 AM
@JNat Can you pass this to the responsible staffer at SO?
Seems like a pretty big data privacy exploit on SO that is now linked front and center
So the clock is ticking on people using it for malicious purposes

Looking
Devs have looked at the post already. So no need for me to pass anything along :P

@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA ho

@Oded How are you doing?

Not bad.

Hey oded

3:51 PM
@Oded Anything new by you?

Not much, really. Gearing up to the company meetup in a few weeks.
How are things in Panama?

Uhhh. Never been.

:P

Weather nice there?

Ups and downs. Was raining cats and dogs in the morning, a bit of sun in the afternoon, overcast right now. Feels like winter has come.

4:01 PM
@Oded Is there something like a "Stackoverflow convention" somewhere?

@Magisch we usually have a product team once a year. Last I heard there were ~170 people coming to this one.

@Oded is that open to outside visitors or just employees?

@Oded Oh it's a family reunion

@Magisch employees only. This is a working meeting - talking about the company, how we're doing, where we're going etc...
@Rubisco kinda

@Oded So not a convention and more of a team meeting
I was thinking maybe like a SE pax

IIRC a while ago someone who can give the promise promised us at some point that some feature requests will be implemented.

Like blizzcon but for SE

At a consistent rate.
I didn't see that happen though.

Though retracting flags was sweeeeeet
Only if we could see more of those requests . . .

@Magisch pretty much.

They mention Galaxy Note 7 every flight now.

@bjb568 Weren't cats afraid of heights or something?

No, we always land on our feet.

Could you try jumping out of the window to see if you land on your feet?

The windows don't open o_0

@Magisch that would be sweet. But I don't think we have anything like that planned. You can ask on MSE.
@bjb568 I'll be on a plane to Philadelphia in a few weeks.

Good flight @bjb568

And then I'll gift kittens to josh and punyon

Q: How to tell why macOS thinks that a certificate is revoked?

kirelaginI cannot access Wikipedia on both my Macs. macOS says that the intermediate certificate used to sign Wikipedia’s certificate (GlobalSign Organization Validation CA - SHA256 - G2) has been revoked. I don’t believe that the certificate in question has been revoked, so I checked manually GlobalSi...

tl;dr Wikipedia's cert issuer is having problems

@ChrisForrence had the same. Powerpoint isn't letting me copy/paste in images anymore from wikicommons. It says the certificate has been revoked.

I'd get it if the comments on SO blog were simply turned off. Never was a fan of the genre. But removing a bunch of reasonable comments while keeping the functionality seems odd. When Podcast #88 joked about Esperanto, a couple of Esperantists made polite and informative counterpoints. Gone.

user315433
Under the blog post on DevStory, Magisch and others made reasonable, if not eloquent, comments on how the feature works (or doesn't) for them. Gone.

@zaq Saw that earlier

My hotel has free hot chocolate. :D

@Mazura I don't think SE.com has mobile theme, what we see on mobile is the same as desktop. And probably when you switched pages, the question list has been "refreshed" so the last question in the first page lost some points and went down a bit.

7:59 PM
If Shog9 says that's actually a reasonable argument. does it also implies he agrees with the argument?
I guess the answer is it depends and in a specific case I stumbled on it means no

Is it a planned outage? I didn't see anything on the tweet/blog
nvm, back up
o/

@TravisJ It looks like something happened with Fastly just now.

11:12 PM
@JonEricson - The default offline message showed "SE is offline, see tweet or blog"-ish. Was down approx 3 minutes. You probably have access to some sort of log for that though I would assume. I didn't see anything buckling prior to the outage, or anything odd after.

@TravisJ Yeah. Not everyone got the offline message, but there was a rather large drop in traffic around 2239 to 2243. The SREs are still investigating.

Chat remained up (hence my message in here), but I think that is probably because they run from different servers? Often chat is still active if there is an issue.

Correct. It was just SO.com as far as I know.
