I have a question: I found a nice solution to a problem I asked a few days back. Now I self-answered my question. Is it OK to close-vote other old questions as duplicate of mine to make all those questions point to mine? IMO the other posts do not have great answers.s

If the close votes are fair enough, it doesn't matter that you're the author of the duplicate
If there is not some de facto canonical dupe you're trying to hide, I don't see why it would be a problem.

hmm. The other questions have rather high votes and fav counts.

Do they have good/correct answers?

Obviously these answers worked for some people. But I don't see how because I had trouble using them. So I guess yes they have correct answers

Then perhaps take it into a language/tech-specific chat room to discuss with that community? In general I would have no problem with the situation you describe, but if you're going to close a bunch against your question, make sure it's somewhat canonical I guess?

I guess you are right. Thanks

Quiet day today. I guess everyone in Europe has molten?

Its 35C outside
there is no air conditioning in this office
and 3 people in the room vape
I'm just a mildly animated puddle at this point.

People vape inside? That's ridiculous

I can't stop them
I'm sitting in a cloud of vaping smoke all day.

Then again I saw someone vape in an airplane some time ago, claiming it was not smoking and should be allowed.

Legally its not smoking here so employers can't forbid it in the office
Its not regulated like smoking, either

11:41 AM
What do you mean they can't forbid it?

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Mostly non-Latin answer: Ecommerce Shopping cart views not empty after checkout by tgryrtutu on drupal.stackexchange.com

They can forbid what they please.
It doesn't have to be illegal to be disallowed.

Employers don't get to set all the rules
they can't forbid going to the bathroom either or drinking at the desk unless its a business necessity

Get @tchrist to set them straight @Magisch.

Hitler much?

11:44 AM
We have very different employment laws from america here
Employers are kept in line a whole lot more here, and the employees have more rights against them generally

Lenin much?
Private business is private.
If they don't like people throwing paper airplanes in the office, they can forbid that. And they can fire you if you don't follow their rules. It's insane to think it takes laws about that.

@tchrist In larger then small companies you even have an employee council and they have equal consideration and say in hiring and firing decisions

And if you have a union basicly nothing happens without union approval

Ok so yeah, Lenin much. Sorry for that.

11:47 AM
If you want to fire someone you must even prove a reasonable cause for it and "I don't like them" does not count
performance problems must be documented, training must be provided first and consideration for other internal positions must also be provided first

layoffs are governed by a very strict system requiring you to prove their necessity first and then you don't get to decide who you lay off, but private needs of the employees in consideration for layoffs do
severance is mandatory and so is 25+ days of PTO and unlimited sick time a year
It keeps companys honest and willing to cooperate a lot more

hahahah
Have a nice vape.

@tchrist I see you're not a fan of european employment laws eh

I've seen better prison systems, yes.

@Magisch I bet it makes them quite reticent to hire new people too. What's the unemployment rate for inexperienced workers there?

5:11 PM
@AaronHall The overall quote is 4,2% atm. Not sure what the quote for unqualified people is, probably significantly higher. Then again, being jobless isn't that bad here, the govt pays your housing, your healthcare and your food in full as long as you prove that you're trying to get a job.
If by inexperienced you mean young people joining the workforce ... we actually have a massive problem in that we are lacking young people (more jobs then people) so their joblessness numbers are probably much, much lower
