The Purge is a 2013 American social science fiction action horror film written and directed by James DeMonaco. It stars Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Adelaide Kane and Max Burkholder. It is the first installment in DeMonaco's Purge film series. The film tells the story about a family that are held hostage during "The Purge", an event which all crime is legalized for 12 hours. Despite mixed reviews, the film was commercially successful, grossing $89,328,627 during its run, far surpassing its $3 million budget. It was the lowest budget film to hit the top of the box office charts in 25 years before its...

Q: Why is a square root not a linear transformation?

Mauricio G.The question says: Prove that the function $f(x)=\sqrt{x}$ is not a linear transformation (particularly $\sqrt{1+x^2}≠1+x$) I think that this is because the exponent of $\sqrt{x}$ is $1/2$, and with that exponent, $T(cu)=c^{1/2}T(u)$, which does not follow the rules of a linear transform...

Why is this an HNQ?

2:55 PM
Because it's not Math.SE?

so @canon I have setup the console to be included in head but I think it then encounters some DOM ready issues
specific error:
> TypeError: document.body is null
options: append to end of DOM (maybe not so good), keep in head but hook to DOM ready events

@bjb568 yay, I missed YCS. Haven't seen many contributions from him recently.

@Haney Why not wait for DOMContentLoaded?
oh noes github is borking status.github.com
APP Server is down
The website is very slow and sometimes page builds fail.
Looks like DDOS.
Oh noes they're investigating issues with their databases.

3:13 PM
@bjb568 not fun without jQuery haha

meh

3:40 PM
hmm, this is a fun race
if i hook it all into DOMContentLoaded it outputs nothing since of course all the console calls have been parsed
i did it!
<-- not great at JS
4

@Haney In an ideal world, we'd have two frames
one frame which has the console
and a nested frame which contains the actual page

makes sense
in the interim this approach should do nicely and not mess up DOM based line counts and such

in the head of the nested page, it would reach out to it's parent window

plus i optimized

and initialize the console
or hook into it anyway
that way the console's DOM is separate from the demo page DOM

3:53 PM
yeah for sure
i managed to keep it in the head tag
all I did was wrap document.body.appendChild(wrapper).appendChild(div); in DOMContentLoaded event

yep

so it intercepts all calls but console doesn't render until DOM is ready, which is of course fine

it still has references to everything

you got it

I didn't have time to do it this weekend

3:54 PM
np

but I'd like to look at nesting sandbox frames

building it out now, we can watch it explode together

hah

nested sandbox frames are frustrating
the sandbox rules propagate

I'll bet

3:55 PM
so basically
child cannot reach parent if parent is sandboxed not to reach its parent (the SO DOM)

how about messaging?

don't know if it's possible; haven't tried
parent --> child yes I think

I haven't dealt with frames since the nightmare of framesets
with nested framesets
and framesets in your framesets

same haha
those funny sidebar but divided main pages
oh man

Q: Bug in stack snippet?

LGSonThis code doesn't run properly body { counter-reset: para; } p { position: relative; padding-left: 25px; } p:before { position: absolute; left: 0px; counter-increment: para; content: ' '; } p:nth-child(5n+1):before { content: counter(para); } <p>Some text</p>

@Haney cool!

works

lol, this fix won't help if they're using :last-child
:/

needs a hard-reload

gotta look into separating it from demo DOM
homework for tonight: research dem sandboxes

4:07 PM
they're cool but annoying
the reality is that the only reason we really host it on stacksnippets.net is to offload the CPU from the main site servers
because a sandboxed iframe always has a unique origin, even comparing the origin to itself returns false
so we could have hosted it on the main domains no problem
but I had a hard time selling that when I was 3 months new to the company ;)

well, there's also fallback for older browsers built-in by the differing domain

it just doesn't render if sandbox isn't supported

oh, really?

> var sandboxSupported = "sandbox" in document.createElement("iframe");
if (!sandboxSupported) {
return text;
}

LOL
I never looked at the implementation
perfect

4:09 PM
and so you see the domain is redundant. But I did what was needed at the time to get it live :)

I'll take it

and now I need to do other stuffs. Have a great day all.

you too

5:07 PM
@haney btw, here's the frame-based demo I had from like 1.5 years ago: antisanity.net/snippet-demo
granted, that's not using a sandbox
and the script is a very old fork

5:42 PM
I'll test with the sandbox setup you use for snippets

1 hour later…
6:44 PM
@haney looks like we can access the frames so long as we use allow-same-origin... and since you're using a different domain to insulate the main site already, it should be good.

but at that point sandboxing is moot

already sandboxed in a sense, no?

Does anyone else see "[migrated]" in the title here? meta.stackoverflow.com/… (that's a question that was migrated to mSO)

@hichris123 I see.

yep

in doing the cost-benefit on this particular thing, thinking nested iframes isn't a particularly huge win to be honest

Interesting, looks like it's all questions that were migrated and subsequently closed as a dupe: meta.stackoverflow.com/search?q=migrated%3Ayes+closed%3Ayes.
Hmm, not sure if it's worth it to report that as a bug though.

@Haney understood. It was just what I had envisioned when we were initially asking for the console... and it addresses some of the issues we're already seeing posted. Maybe someday, though. :)
back to routing issues!

hahaha

@hichris123 meh

@hichris123 If it was nitpickish, you'd've gotten some visitors' upvotes. If it was something crucial, depending on the number crucialometer shows, you'd've gotten upvotes.
It's neither crucial nor nitpickish.

A: Which demographic population interacted with the "deoptimizing a c++ program" question?

bluefeetIt's rare that we are asked to supply stats for a specific question but this question has received a lot of traction in a short amount of time, so I understand the curiosity. I'll provide some very high-level totals for consumption. A total of 170 users have voted on the question. The average ...

I still don't understand why everyone is all up in arms about this question, seems like there's a bunch of other more important things to do...

user315433
I don't like the question (DVed it yesterday) because I kind of want SE to be one place where membership in a demographic group doesn't matter.

user315433
Also, while 27356 views is a lot, 170 votes is a tiny, really skewed selection from those.

user315433
Even though it's "demographic" in the SE sense.

user315433
I still didn't enjoy it when Cupcake called me out on Meta.SO as "a math guy".

"Software Engineering" and "Software Architecture" both look like good options from where I stand. Let’s not turn this into a bikeshed discussion; we need well-considered options here, not a popularity contest - Coffee McWhiskeyface is right out. The ideal name will suggest at a glance what this site is about, without suggesting that it might be “fix my code” even a little bit. http://meta.programmers.stackexchange.com/a/8054

Hey guys, I guess I'm a little new to Stackoverflow and kind of missed a lot of what happened here. I didn't think my question would cause all of this and I apologize for any rules I broke. I plan to post some of my code tonight to show some of the changes once I figure out if the thread can be unlocked.
