@TylerH and others: Please feel free to flag the comment for removal if it is unrelated to the post. That is the recommended way to deal with "not-related" comments. Instead of piling comments saying "this is not related" - put it in a flag. — Sunshine 3 mins ago

8:36 AM
@Sunshine the problem is that I don't want the comment to be removed because you have a point: we are an evil room at times. I don't want that to be hidden but I feel the comment could have used a bit more context to put things in perspective. It is good that we remember we aren't always a responsible bunch of people.
and left a comment on the post as well, paraphrasing what I said here

@rene As I said to @ShadowWizard some days ago, if you are bored with the current chat room skin, you should totally try this version instead...

@rene I had posted the comment because I felt it was related. I didn't post "my interpretation/opinions" because I think that always complicates discussions. As far as the SOCVR room and burnination is concerned, as an individual, I respect the efforts you individually put in as a user @rene to clean the site. As for the vigilante mob that SOCVR has become, I am not sure if it does more good or more harm.
SOCVR posts a canned comment promoting the room in every single burnination request on MSO. JavaScript guys don't promote their room for every JS question, Python guys don't promote their room for every python question. For any other tag on SO proper/meta, can you show me a room which posts a canned comment for every post in a tag?

We don't promote on main AFAIK, and the recruiting done by some should have stopped but I need moderators to enforce that.
@Sunshine As I said in the question instead of the status-review tag we decided to post a comment. If you feel that part sucks, please say so, either in an answer or in a comment.
We decided to use that comment to prevent over enthusiastic re-tagging based on the post from Martin Smith. It only needs some negative feedback to adapt that comment so the room isn't mentioned.

@rene I intend to raise a flag for mods to cleanup these canned comments, doesn't make sense IMO to post on MSO, as none of the folks their can moderate comments. I will be speaking to the incorrect audience. Mods can cleanup or decline my flag, I will leave it upto them.

i was hoping that my advertising would made some more people at least aware that moderation is a thing and I don't want to hide we exist. If I need to balance that more I'm OK with that
So far I haven't had much of a normal / regular discussion about how the room is perceived except during incidents when I only get a bucket of poo delivered, totally deserved but still.
So, anyway, if people would just speak up a bit I can at least try to make it fit in. I'm now a bit steering in the darkness/fog relying on feedback from occasional visitors and/or mods.

8:55 AM
Some things make me uncomfortable, and I prefer to put them in a flag instead of a public scrutiny on MSO. As for the rest, you as an individual are doing a great job. I have no intention to post on MSO to shut down your room. I do, however think the long pile on comments on Undo's post could have been avoided by folks who are self-assigned vigilante moderators, they should have used the proper tool for the job, and I have left them a note to do so.
you are getting feedback now, on your MSO post. :)

OK, fair enough.

Q: Find the infinte sum of the series.

abhimanyu chaudharyHow do find the sum of the series till infinity? $$ \frac{2}{1!}+\frac{2+4}{2!}+\frac{2+4+6}{3!}+\frac{2+4+6+8}{4!}+\cdots$$ I know that it gets reduced to $$\sum\limits_{n=1}^∞ \frac{n(n+1)}{n!}$$ But I don't know how to proceed further.

Barely anything like an MVCE and it gets to HNQ
The guys on Math are really rep hungry

user315433
11:19 AM
It does demonstrate one of coolest things one learns in calculus 2: to find the sum of a series, it helps to make the series more complicated by inserting a variable in it. (Because then one can take derivative or integral with respect to that new variable, which changes the game.)

oh my god I can do addition, but wait, there's more.... I can insert a variable and CHANGE EVERYTHING OH MY GOD

@canon this is the problem most places. You really want a manager who is focused on managing (when at work). Facilitating, communicating, being the proverbial shit umbrella. But since management is also the only career track for devs, you end up with a lot of devs who'd rather be designing / implementing & have neither the desire nor aptitude for management.

user315433
What are career tracks for CMs?

Run for President

@Shog9 Some of them even end up as CTOs, it's crazy

user315433
5:58 PM
Adam went from CM to dev. That's the only post-CM-role I know (at SE).

CMs in general, or CMs at SO?
My understanding is that, most places, CMs are sort of an entry-level marketing thing, so... Progression would be to some less-basic Marketing role.
That's not really the case here
CM is sorta on its own island.
which I guess puts it in the same situation as Developer in most orgs; you want to move up, you move to a different role entirely.

user315433
Unless, I suppose, the network expands to 500+ sites and there will have to be a much larger team with more vertical size.

Which is too remote a possibility, considering the state of Area 51.

think they'd be worthwhile on the per-site metas?

user315433
@canon There isn't much there, really. Traffic trends that you can see on Quantcast, and post trends that you can get from SEDE. Only within a more convenient interface.

7:28 PM
I could be wrong, but I seem to remember that the 25k data dump includes info redacted from the SEDE
e.g.: user vote info and such

user315433
An urban legend. There is no "data dump", first of all; it's just a couple of pages. This is what it looks like on Math

I am dismayed...

user315433
It does include the stats related to deleted posts, but SEDE also has them in PostsWithDeleted.

@ShadowWizard Actually, I think she arranged to manage me to keep tabs on my shenanigans.

Is there any way to edit a post without bumping it?

7:40 PM
@canon yes, make a small edit

hmm
These changes are all going to, at the very least, remove at least 161 characters and add 14.
Essentially, I'd like to remove the external links to my console script (and the html comment explaining it) from my snippets and use the newly integrated console.

That will bump I'm afraid

:/

How many post?

@rene If I only process my own posts? 30. If I update every post that uses my script... 237.

I also repcapped again on Deep Web for day two

@canon I know there is "tool" to do mass updates for urls, not sure it it would be a fit for your use-case but maybe @Oded can comment on that.

@rene umm... nope. Unless there is some new change any edit bumps the question.

@canon new console version of Snippets is live - smooth
I chose to inject our hosted copy of your lib at run button if console was selected

@ShadowWizard Hmm, maybe it doesn't bump for title/tags only?

easiest way

7:51 PM
@rene nope. Bump. Even edit that is revoked during grace period bumps, though it is impossible to tell what has changed.

so everything that generates a posthistory row causes a bump. Sounds reasonable

@rene exactly.
That said, minor edit doesn't send notification to the post author.

@Haney perfect, thank you!
