I think it's that it's actually the same object in unit tests, so it returns true, but when deployed, it's 2 different instances of a String object, which == will compare as false.

I've been using the == operator in my program to compare all my strings so far. However, I ran into a bug, changed one of them into .equals() instead, and it fixed the bug. Is == bad? When should it and should it not be used? What's the difference?

@Meta sorry for the big delay - was away for my tenth wedding anniversary, so was mostly offline for 3 days. Regarding the quality project, I'm not sure we'll ever be done, exactly. We were really pleased with how much triage system and new queues helped the front page. That said, there's still a lot of wood to chop. In particular, I'm hopeful we can get some work done on the "ask question" page to help new users avoid a lot of the most common problems.

Back when cross-site limits were announced, it seemed they overwrote something site-specific, which I couldn't quite understand. Apparently, this is now what the issue with SO is... though I still couldn't understand exactly what happened.
