@Sally Thanks. I had forgotten about this. Ironically for years I did comply with the license but I had to make some changes a few years ago and I suspect I undid the attribution requirements. The source code for this site is, honestly, probably lost. I will see if I can dig it up to make it compliant. — Mark Henderson Feb 18 at 11:08

the only time I feel the need for emojis is when I'm speaking to someone who doesn't understand subtlety

most emojis are totally pointless, nothing "old kat" about that opinion
the main thing I use smileys like =) for is when I say something that, without the tone of voice you'd hear irl, could be taken in either a positive or negative light, and appending a smiley is the most concise way to make it obvious I mean the positive thing without being as pedantically self-explanatory as I am right now

@Meta somewhat I support, also for Drupal.
On second thought, not on minor sites...
Is there any info about ratio of posted spam:valid post per site? Overall, or within specific time period?
Or perhaps, deleted posts:staying

user315433
One can get the latter by comparing Posts and PostsWithDeleted. But will not be informative, because most deletions are not spam related.

Once upon a time, I used to play this online game. And once a year or so there would be some kind of tournament, there would be 80+ people turning up to watch some popular matches in a tournament. Since most of the people know most of the other people who turned up to watch those tournaments, they were fairly talkative during those matches. The chat was filled up with 2-3 comments per second, it's literally impossible to chat.

Web Apps users have the weirdest problems.

@Meta We get the occassional weirdness at Security.SE as well.
Meanwhile I'm wondering if that WebApps question can be salvaged.
IIRC Facebook does allow fan pages for nonexistent entities. Like, characters from fiction.

user315433
Yes, you can create a page for your teapot. But FB wants an entity with government Id behind an account.

user315433
And in this case, the account is of value since it has followers.

3:17 PM
The account's been locked out and they say they will only reactivate it if I provide Government issued ID for Laylith. — Peter David Carter 41 secs ago

user315433
@Quill Suspiciously, the comments under that post (of which there are 36 by now) are not archived.

user315433
Fictional FB accounts (as opposed to pages) violate FB ToS, so one can't expect them to be helpful with unlocking.

I see. Still, it doesn't make a lot of sense. What's so bad about people having fun with a fictional account?
It makes people active on FB, which is what I thought they wanted.
....thinking about it, living pets do have some documents around them. Like bills from the vet.
They can be chipped for identification.

user315433
The quality of activity is also important... Facebook differentiated itself from Myspace etc from the beginning with their real-name policy. Not always enforceable, but...

user315433
I don't have a real FB account, but I do have a fake one (so, violating TOS) so I can manage a page.

3:29 PM
So... the real names policy was meant to get better content...

Q: Anonymity Policy

François G. DoraisIn view of recent events, we've been reconsidering having some policy against anonymous users. We've always encouraged users to use real names though we have been tolerant of pseudonymous and anonymous users. As an internal moderation policy, we've always had less tolerance toward anonymous users...

user315433
No, it was brought up by mod team, and temporarily enforced in some way.

user315433
They dropped it quickly enough, though.

alvarezpaivaMy questions is whether there is a good reason to allow anonymous users in a site dedicated to research-level mathematics. If notoriousness counts as popularity, then perhaps. Notorious in the sense that "The Mighty Shog" may call you to order if you misbehave.
But I doubt Shog is drunk with that. That would make him unfit for the role.

IIRC winterbash hats on chat refreshed faster.

user315433
I have long stopped clicking the flag indicator in chat. There is probably some simple CSS rule to hide them, but I'd have to wait until the indicator appears to find it.

It's kinda hilarious to look at the weird things that get flagged.

I leave the chatrooms open pretty much nonstop so I can see the weird shit that gets flagged
somebody flagged something similar to a math troll in one of the math rooms

Now mods have a list of recently flagged messages so it's even easier to grab a bowl of popcorn and laugh.

@Quill how a math troll looks like?

in Mathematics on The Stack Exchange Network Chat, yesterday, by Balarka Sen
@Kari No problem. I'm just using the intuition on $\Bbb R^n$, with the plain vanilla norm $\|(x_1, \cdots, x_n)\| = \sqrt{x_1^2 + \cdots + x_n^2}$.
@hichris123 I use an abridged form of popcorn
I figure it was a troll; it got a flag
