Robert CartainoFirst read Good Subjective, Bad Subjective. Beyond that discussion, the reason you typically want to avoid certain types of questions (in this type of Q&A format, at least) is that some questions simply cannot be answered authoritatively and definitively in the space of a post — keep those two w...

I'm not saying we should all stop asking questions, but if you have five or six or seven or more questions, it might be worth spreading them out.

We will see a drop by this time tomorrow, I think. That lower level will be maintained throughout the duration of private beta - I've seen it happen a few times already, and it's bad - and things will get a bit boring.

Does that always happen for long usernames?

So... score for the day: 3 questions reopened, 3 remained closed. None of the ones reopened were from the queue.
According to Shog's stats some questions actually are reopened from the queue. Maybe those are the rare unicorns...

When going through the "Low Quality Posts" queue, if I see that someone has already added a comment "From review", will recommending deletion with the same comment leave a duplicate comment?

@cubrr yes, i never leave a comment in that case, only if I'm the first to arrive there

@rene okay, thanks again

I'm not saying I disagree with this answer, but it is more than a little sad that three years after the cleanup effort began, we are still saying that the Android tag is bad and needs to be cleaned up. Clearly there is a systemic problem, unsolvable by normal cleanup. — Cody Gray May 28 '14 at 4:50

Two years later we can add PHP, jQuery, asp.net-mvc ....

I think there's a handful of tags you could add to that list.

3:56 PM
@rene At least a few of those posts are decent. Most Android questions include a) little code, b) no stack trace, and c) a very poor description of the problem to top it off. At least for a bad jQuery question people link to a JSFiddle or their website; Android folks just say "it doesn't work!".

@hichris123 Ok, fair enough, let's ditch Android and the company that created that mess.

Obviously the solution is more jQuery.

$("#cowbell").more();

Do we already have a jQuery plugin for downloading the latest version of jQuery?

I couldn't find any discussion of non-English sample questions for Area 51 proposals. On the existing language sites it's fine to ask in the subject language.

Yeah, I happened to see one on german.se, where some of the answers on the same question were in English and some in German. Requires a flexible mind to read through the answers

@Marshmallow Hi! 1... 2... 3... are we there yet?
In an update on yesterday's "Reopen Marathon"... 1 question that ended up with Leave Closed in the queue has been reopened, 1 question has been deleted, and 1 question now has 4 reopen votes (stackoverflow.com/questions/33742114/…).
Explaining a programming concept is mostly sorta off topic on SO. It's kinda more sorta like on topic for Programmers. Another reason why expanding the scope for the project would have been a much better idea. Also, Hitler wouldn't approve, as he's only into watching people write code on youtube. And funny cat videos. Yes, even Hitler likes those. — Will 9 hours ago
How long will it take for someone to complain about Programmers's scope, I wonder...

Based on this issue and some other poking around, I'm very tempted to submit a question asking about using highlight.js instead of prettify. But there's already this: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/126608/…
What's the etiquette regarding re-surfacing questions that were last discussed ~4 years ago?

user315433
Bounty

8:46 PM
There's an existing +12 answer, so it seems likely that a bounty might just go to that one

@jtbandes If you do ask a new question, ask to address/re-assess these Shog9 concerns: there's really no reason to switch on a whim, especially considering the time invested in integrating Prettify. But you should also consider that this is a bit of code that needs to be both small and extremely fast - it runs on every page, and some pages have... A lot of code on them. Locking up someone's browser for a few extra features won't fly.

@ShadowWizard ha
@ShadowWizard Which dupe?

@rene I was thinking of doing some performance testing...but of course that involves spending more time on it ;)

sure, but good feature request require time

yep
IMO, the highlight.js results just look... better. But it's hard to quantify that
I think the fact it's under active development is somewhat important, not that prettify is totally dead (as once assumed), but highlight.js seems much more active

8:51 PM
You could pick a bunch of bug-reports on MSO for prettify and see if the highlight fixes the issue

@jtbandes On the other hand, one person's "dead" is another person's "stable".

Had a moderator a while back who decided that a certain tag was not good for a certain site. Decided to merge it into another tag, and then rename both of them to "untagged" or some such. Ended up hitting a good chunk of questions on the site, completely ruining the ability of folks to follow questions, making a big mess and driving away a bunch of the top users.

On this site, roughly 33% of LQ review tasks are handled in review (not preempted by the mod flag queue) (the median time for completing a task is 117 minutes, vs 71.5 for moderators, hence the number of sniped tasks)
in The DMZ on The Stack Exchange Network Chat, 3 mins ago, by Shog9
on SO, that's ~60% - mods aren't really much slower, but there are so many flags it doesn't matter (also there's a longer period of exclusivity for review there)

Q: Are general tag discussion threads ever useful?

GillesI've seen “tag spring cleaning” meta threads on many sites, where people are invited to raise problematic tags, one tag per answer. They usually end up in a mess: after the first few, nobody pays attention to anymore, and being able to discuss things only in comments is stifling (is this tag real...

user315433
@Quill The problem is not format, the problem is that there are 2 people who give a sh#t and they are tired already.

user315433
(In the context of math, where such threads are traditional)

When you discuss really broad actions, it's hard to be motivated to progress
Nobody wants to do a 40 tag cleanup of 2000 questions
but a 1 tag cleanup of 150 as they pop up, much easier

user315433
I looked at /tags?tab=new again now, which I used to do regularly, but it just makes me so angry every time.

user315433
This just in: users decided that the name of a mathematician mentioned in a question should be added as a tag.
