I have a list of strings, strs. I want to create a new list of strings that has 60 items, all equal to the same random string from the first list. When I do random.choice(strs) * 60 I just get one long string.
So I tried [random.choice(strs)] * 60 and it worked. So that means it's right, right?

Think so, but I'm a noob in that language.

Me too.

Me make tree!

LOL: news.softpedia.com/news/… Kickstarter fail.
Poor guy. I watched his video.

@JasonC yeah, sure

12:10 AM
^ It's the dumb one above. Which, in retrospect, makes me want to downvoting comments in chat.

@JasonC See codepad.org/ktIxtTcj you get the same random item, 60 times. Is that what you want?

@AwesomePoodles Yeah I tested it in an interactive shell too. It works. It just feels weird because I'm not used to it.

Q: Initialising an array of fixed size in python

kbbI would like to know how i can initialise an array(or list), yet to be populated with values, to have a defined size. for example in C: int x[5]; /* declared without adding elements*/ How do i do that in python? Thanks.

That's how you do it

So I guess it's right. [None] * 60 vs ["initial string"] * 60, same thing.
Oh right and if I had a list of integers I guess random.choice(ints) * 60 would just do math. The * on lists is cool, but weird.

@JasonC bjb's fault...

@TinyGiant @Braiam y'all are making the same mistake again: define certain types of posts as "nonsense" then define rules for nonsense then get uneasy about whether or not your rules apply to everything you've given that name.
See my edit, please - if the post has literally no meaning whatsoever, not a single word in any language, then you really don't need to think so hard about it.
Conversely, if the post means something then stop trying to shove it into the bucket with the cat puke and make a decision based on what it says.
cc @ShadowWizard ^

Your cat pukes in a bucket? I am in awe of your cat wrangling skills. Mine does it on the carpet, literally less than a body length from the tile floor.

Hm, first time I see a Smokey report for Politics.SE... one would expect that the site, by the nature of its subject, would attract a fair number of trolls/angry people.

But surprisingly we don't see much reports.

Just as well, I guess.
When did you change the lettering of your name?

What name do you see me right now?

6:22 PM
Well, the M looks like an M, but with the last leg deciding to be a music note.
The second letter, that looked like a Lambda in the past, looks like a script "V" upside-down.
And the third a bit like one of the symbol for the set of real numbers.
(Sorry, too lazy for a screenshot! :-) )

@S.L.Barth Haha nice one.

@Shog9 I was in the "most efficient method to get rid of this crap" camp... not trying to rationalize or guess OP intentions, which is why offensive is my pet tool

Well

@ⱮᏁℛ IIRC, when I started being active here, you were something like "inazemar".

Poor exotic letters being called exotic letters. No wonder they're exotic.

....The reverse of "Ramezani"

@S.L.Barth Yeah nice memory. So people in the Table took the first three letters and that became my semi-established nickname.

I think of the word "exotic" as positive. As in "An exotic holiday destination!"

there's a whole SE for 3d printing?

@S.L.Barth Yes.

the extent of my experience with 3d printing is I saw a glimpse of a 3d-printer prop on Arrow once and recognized it.

Prolly less for me.

I only recently did my first 3D print, at the local hackerspace.
@MikeEdenfield Just out of private beta.
It's fun, although it may take a while before your objects are printed.

8:23 PM
A while?
Like, 3 years?
3 days?
3 centuries?

In this particular case we expected it to be 2 hours.

That's not a while for me.

We broke off halfway because the print failed. An old model printer and a design that needed some improvement.
Of course that just means another question to post! :-)
Anyway, if you want to see a 3D printer in action, see if you have a hackerspace or fablab in your area.
@MikeEdenfield If that is the extent of your experience... then where did you recognize it from? :-)

@S.L.Barth a coworker has one on his desk but I've never seen it used.

@MikeEdenfield Sounds like you have interesting coworkers!
