Hey, anybody remember that website that tells you if it was caused by caching?

user1228
People have used it in response to intermittent bugs on SO

user1228
"Why is my rep different over here and over there?"

user1228
isitcaching.com

user1228
or something like that

user1228
7:05 PM
The website simply says "It's caching." or similar--that's it

user1228
Can't find the sombitch for the life of me!

@Shog9 EXCELLENT. Have need of that immediately!

user1228
Yay!

7:07 PM
I haven't been to SO in a while. I'm a little confused by the tabs.
Let's say I want to view newest, unanswered questions using only my mouse. How do I do this now?

ya kant

@JasonC is:q [java] answers:0?

I can't figure out how to type that with my mouse.
I used to be able to just click the favorite tag then click one of the sort tabs.
But now favorite tag and "newest" seem to be mutually exclusive unless you type the tag in the filter box, even if you already have a tab for that tag?

@JasonC if you click on the tag name, then click on "newest" on the tag page, that doesn't work for you?

@MikeEdenfield No it resets the view to newest, all tags and the filter box is empty.

7:15 PM
hm.
You don't get that --^ ?

Is it unique to SO?
SO's interface is different.

that was SO.
but I just did the same thing on SF/F
clicked from the sidebar favorites list, then "Newest"

or , as the case may be

No I don't see that. When I click on the side bar it takes me to the "java" tab. Then the only "newest" I see is another tab.

7:19 PM
is that the desktop site?

Yeah
How new is this? Am I being A/B tested?

ok then, I must be the utterly confused one because I don't even know what you're looking at :)

They're up to something.

It's exclusive to SO, the new question list

yeah, my "questions" list doesn't look like that.
so never mind then, please ignore me.
i don't see anywhere to add tabs

7:21 PM
Though you can opt-out from new-nav (Profile - Edit - Preference - New Nav)

Ah
That's part of the "new nav" thing people have been talking about?

Quite old "new nav", yes

Yeah I'm a little late to the party.

then i think I got it.
you already have a tab defined, right?
I think that does what you want.
and you should be able to save the tab that way.

7:25 PM
Hmm

Word of warning: since the URL doesn't save current browsed page, don't open the question on the same window and navigate back, it will bring you back to page 1

Ahh I see
I click the java tab then that thing next to the filter box sort of magically does a reasonable thing

Thanks

and once you set it up and save it it will always look like that when you come back to it

7:27 PM
I got confused looking at the wrong drop down, I guess the tab dropdowns are tab edit actions not filter actions:

yeah, looks like it.

too many dropdowns lol

Well if you want some MSE points: meta.stackexchange.com/q/273868

yay, I actually answered a meta question instead of asking one.
and it had nothing to do with any ongoing election, so bonus points.
give me the old, better, faster Picture Upload dialog back.

which old one?
The one you couldn't paste into, or the one you couldn't tab through

7:32 PM
the one that had a "browse" button on it.

@MikeEdenfield like the one in chat?

instead of "ok, now stop, and go open windows explorer, and then browse anyway, and then drag/drop."
yah.

I hate the one in chat

i hate having to open windows explorer to upload an image that is in the folder that the browse dialog already opened to anyway :(

@MikeEdenfield why would you have to do that?

7:34 PM
plus the browse dialog was modal so I can't accidentally click away from it and lose it behind my browser.

Why I hate chat's upload dialog: I couldn't just paste that in here, I had to paste it into the dialog on the main site and get a URL that I could paste into chat.

teach me to read.

my only pet-peeve is the need to click "link from the web" for online image, for whatever reason.

well 99% of what I upload into chat are URLs so that doesn't bother me much.

non-imgur URL == broken image for someone
@AndrewT. you don't, really. Just copy the image instead of the image's URL.
My pet peeve is that the dialog doesn't get keyboard focus for some reason
But then neither does the one in chat, where guaranteed your hands are already on the keyboard, so...

7:39 PM
@Shog9 TIL. Oh thanks, that's very convenient

Shut up, Jason. I don't care where your hands are.

Why it's not documented though :/

what isn't?
oh, the paste thing?
No idea.
Probably because it only works in Chrome
I guess that is kind of an idea

I see. Kind of hidden feature for Chrome

7:42 PM
TIL: one of the web-based apps we use is explicitly documented as "only works in Firefox", but half the features are buggy because their devs exclusively test in Chrome.

IIRC, it's not that no one tests in FF, it's that enabling image pasting in FF is kind of annoying
(go ahead, ask on Stack Overflow. Someone will say "Flash!" and then you can beat them savagely)
