I have decided that the entire source for the cPanel installer is: while(1) { echo (rand() ? '+': '.'; sleep 1}
2
All I see in my terminal is:
Optimizing vps...+...+++..++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++..............................+.+.+.+.+.+.+.+.+.+.+.+.+.++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++...

Heh :P

OK. Chat just totally screwed me over
or rather my attempt to chat just totally screwed me over
I instinctively hit Control-C to copy what I saw in my terminal...
I feel like crying now
$!^@!*@&*!$!!!!!!
okay... well, let's start the install over again then...

Whoops!

yeah, tell me about it!
maybe the install will pick up where it left off
it's been doing nothing but printing + and . onto my terminal for 5 hours now!!!
and then I hit ^C and killed it. sigh

on a related note, easy way to make your terminal look like it's busy
root@TonidoPlug:~# cat /dev/urandom | hexdump -C | grep "ca fe"

12:17 AM
@DanGrossman I love it

some part of my brain just announced "you should package that and sell it as a phone app"... no! bad brain!

...the installer is not picking up from where it left off
it's starting over from zero
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

you could call it the "matrix hex screensaver"

hey there @Greg, how are you?

good thanks

12:22 AM
@Rebecca feel free to harshly insult my stupidity, maybe it will make me feel better ;-)

I am here and ready to insult!
5

I'm hoping for a self esteem underflow ;-)
Oh right, @Rebecca you're not a unix girl... Control-C means "Stop Process" in Unixland...

I instinctively hit Control-C to copy what I saw in my terminal...

I know that. >_<

load testing my heartbeat script => it takes a lot of hardware to handle even a few thousand concurrent users

I started this install around 1PM...

12:25 AM
@Josh damn... move that window off to another screen or somewhere safe!

7 hours ago, by Josh
Yey for black bean soup and new virtual machines! \o/
Well, yey for black beans anyway...

@Josh Isn't it like that on Windows too?

@radp IDK, I am a unix guy

I mean, the precious few Windows apps that are terminal apps.

@DanGrossman it was in screen... it was my desire to produce this message that killed it:

Optimizing vps...+...+++..++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++..............................+.+.+.+.+.+.+.+.+.+.+.+.+.++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++...

12:27 AM
(Did you know? In Windows you can be a terminal .exe or a GUI .exe -- not both, afaik)

I remember always having to choose one or the other when creating a project in Visual Studio

although I think terminal executables can create GUI message boxes.

radp: and gui programs can create console windows, too.

I'm here \o/

All I know is a related article of Raymond Chen's.
I can't find that one, but man, that person writes the best blog titles ever.

12:31 AM

A: Windows C++: How can I redirect stderr for calls to fprintf?

Greg HewgillYou can use a similar technique on Windows, you just need to use different words for the same concepts. :) This article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms682499.aspx uses a win32 pipe to handle I/O from another process, you just have to do the same thing with threads within the same proc...

OK I am getting out of here before I cause any more damage!!!
;-)

@Josh oh and Ctrl-Z does not undo

12:46 AM
Yay, I didn't hit the cap yesterday!

\o/

Now I can post the answer I queued up from yesterday.

Saw this before, but it's still pretty funny

Heheh, nice.

12:48 AM
unacceptable.

Let's shake our fists in disappointment, though I'm not sure why you want it to work.

0
A: Are there constants in Javascript?

Not a NameObject.defineProperty(window,'CONSTANT',{ value : 5, writable: false }); I'm not sure how many browsers that works for, but it's good for qt programs or any browser that supports it.

^ Wait, what?

@radp, I thought you did an update to your scripts a bit ago? This says last update was October? gist.github.com/631092

@RebeccaChernoff oh, um, yes, that's because I didn't actually, er, push them to Gist. The version of dropbox is HEAD however.

12:50 AM
|:
kk

@TimStone o_o Why would you want a method to create a property in JavaScript objects?

So you can make it read-only, apparently. :P

Anyway, I'll update that answer to remove that qt reference and add in the ECMAScript 5 warning

@RebeccaChernoff pushed.

Oh. I already installed from DropBox. (:

12:53 AM
Argh, yes. Must get this damn report done and work on userscripts. >_<

Yeah, actually the sameful truth is that Dropbox takes the file straight from my "working copy", so changes there go live before I commit them.
I ought to make a separate "production" repository to offer for Dropbox I guess

Doesn't really matter where, as long as you're putting changes somewhere I suppose. (:

@RebeccaChernoff first upvote
tell me when you're spammed about it.
oy?

36 mins ago, by Josh
Oh right, @Rebecca you're not a unix girl... Control-C means "Stop Process" in Unixland...
And to think @RebeccaChernoff is almost a valuable member of society. So close

okay, a full minute has passed, upvote retired for a future testing occasion
waits for rchern to refresh a page and see her rep go from 4,220 to 4,210 and complain about it

1:02 AM
@radp She doesn't care about her rep anymore, she has dozens of diamonds to cheer her up
5

@MichaelMrozek Well, in a way, she's truly a happy woman^Wlittle blue mod girl now!
2
@MichaelMrozek That'll make a great addition to the book.

I'd forgotten about that. As I imagine @RebeccaChernoff has been trying to

Mum, for my birthday, all I want is... one of Microsoft's second generation surface! zdnet.com/blog/microsoft/…

@MichaelMrozek pekka more than doubled it, and we haven't touched WebApps yet.

@YiJiang Try something like "Remember how you didn't love me enough to spend $12000 on a Surface? Spending $7600 would be a good way to make it up to me"

1:07 AM
@MichaelMrozek Broken pipe: ENOENT

Well, turns out I can't handle the traffic from my heartbeat script affordably with Apache, PHP & MySQL. Time to write a node.js & mongodb server instead. Hopefully it's matured a little since last time I had to do that.

1:28 AM
@radp heh, it did. You voted and then removed it? (;

@RebeccaChernoff Yes, I was testing the double upvote scenario.
@RebeccaChernoff Okay, upvoted you again, please tell me when you're notified.

notified on SOChatLive.
and now notified on SOLive

@RebeccaChernoff upvoted again

I feel like I would have been a better test subject, for some strange reason.

Back in my day, we just refreshed the homepage every 10 seconds to watch our rep change
4

1:30 AM
I needed some time to find a different post than the one I retracted the vote from, obviously.

SOChatLive notification is good

@RebeccaChernoff \o/

and SOLive
(:

yeah, the problem must have been a misalignment between your computer's and the server's time, or somesuch.

I don't remember if I only saw it on votes from the same post though. Not sure.

1:31 AM
(The change was adding a 'to_date' to the request)
I just retracted an upvote.
The other upvote is fine.

Ooh. New version of node.js released today with HTTPS support

@radp Then why does it say "Gained 10 rep" (;
SOLive inc'd my rep also (;

@RebeccaChernoff Your envelope lit up.
Revisions tab. ;)

K, well, SOLive bumped up my rep to 4240, but when I open it in a new tab, it is 4230 >_<

@RebeccaChernoff er, I messed up with the test votes enough to fudge with anything that happened after the initial success, but I guess that's a better surprise than finding your rep go down on reload.

1:38 AM
Well, if I reload that tab, it will go down. q:

At any rate following reputation changes from the reputation changes API is an imperfect art.
No info on downvotes given
No info on votes retracted
No info on deleted post events

@YiJiang It's annoying 'cause he said so! Duh. It's also a lot of fun to arbitrarily hover over tags and then get annoyed when something happens, apparently.

I could follow your raw rep number instead, but then I'd not be able to tell you why you gained or lost rep.
I could trigger rep changes on your downvote clicks, but they wouldn't reach the other tabs.
etc.

@TimStone Meh, I'll downvote then, since he wants a poll, I'll give him a poll
@radp might want to do the same:
1
Q: Am I the only one that finds the new tag "subscribers" tooltip annoying?

Mystere ManWhen you hover over a tag for a second, you see a new popup (at least I think it's new, i've never seen it before) that has subscriber information about the tag. Am I the only one that finds this highly annoying?

@YiJiang I answered instead.

1:44 AM
@radp Meh, I find straw polls like that hugely annoying :P

@YiJiang ...and an opportunity for reversal maybe! :P
gets downvoted to oblivion

Also brought my Meta rep down to a nice, round number again, which is all that matters really

Me too. 6,940.

...
shakes head

He just said he uses IE9.

1:48 AM
No repro on IE9

I'm so tempted to go Unsupported on him.

@radp Yay! Take that heretical non-nice-round-rep-number @TimStone

Yes, me and my 827. :(

@TimStone 832

@TimStone I can downvote you once :P

1:50 AM
Would have been 829, had Hans Passant not felt the need to down vote me. :P
Ah, an up vote :o

@TimStone There you go. Embetterened.

Ew IE9, why is there a few-pixel white space at the top of each tab?

@TimStone Is that for in-tab progress like Fission?

The StackExchangeâ„¢ RepBeautifier VotingRingâ„¢ hits again!
2
nite.

Hah, g'night
@YiJiang No, I think it's just crappy UI, lemme screen shot.

1:52 AM
Can't remember which beta browser had that... Firefox 4 I think?

@TimStone Very weird. Hmmm...

Originally I had thought it was space on the page somehow, but the scrollbar has that space at the top too, so it's part of the UI.
@DanGrossman ...Wow. o_o
> Mitsubishi won't say exactly what the 92-inch TV's price will be, but consider for reference that the company's 82-inch 3D TV costs roughly $4,000. Expect the price of the 92-inch model to be somewhat higher.
I can't tell what tone they're saying "somewhat" in, hah.

That whole thing is just the dock for that new Motorola Android phone... it has a 2GHz processor and can easily power a 11" screen and keyboard, run Firefox 3.6 with Flash... digitaltrends.com/mobile/…

2:00 AM
@DanGrossman What!? That's... a phone powering a netbook shell?

yeah
> Possibly even more impressive than the phone is the corresponding Laptop Dock that turns the phone into an 11.6-inch laptop with full keyboard, speakers and three-cell battery. The phone is simply docked into the back of the device and all the phones apps can be enjoyed on the much larger screen.

What happens when the phone is on the dock and you receive a phone call?

probably just pick it up

It's interesting, and all. But what I still haven't figure out is why I would want to cart around non-laptop with me.

You don't have to, you cart around a phone in your pocket
when you get home and are sitting on the sofa, you plug it into your dock and surf the web and check mail on a full size screen

2:06 AM
Yay?
Home, where I have desktop or a laptop for that very purpose.

Not everyone is you :)
Someone that might have purchased a netbook, if they get this phone, doesn't have to
I already have X is not a reason to not manufacture Y... not everyone already has X and those that do will be replacing X within 3 years anyway

Right, but very few combo devices are actually worth the money.
Speaking of which, how much is the whole kit-and-kaboodle going to cost?

who knows, gotta wait til AT&T and Verizon start selling it

@YiJiang, your favicon script is weirding me out. Rather than putting in a favicon with a number, the space just becomes empty. ):

@RebeccaChernoff Which site? On Chrome, I presume?

2:21 AM
Here. Also in GD, but I assume you're not handling beta sites? Haven't looked to see how you're doing it. Whining without checking is much more fun. (;

@RebeccaChernoff Right. Sites for which no suitable favicon can be found in the script's own repository of favicons should use the SE default icon

Ah. Yeah I'm just getting an empty space.

I need you to say something in the GD room
Worked for me, definitely
Though I forgot to login, so I didn't see the ping

Well it is happening in this room too. So hrm |:

@RebeccaChernoff Huh? Okay, that's odd... are you using the latest version of my script from the repo?
Is the Chrome dev console reporting any errors?

2:25 AM
Installed the script from the repo Thursday or Friday. It did work initially.
No.

Q: Why is It At Times Impossible To Get an Answer?

Ive posted a problem twice, asking for help, and ive yet to have anyone respond? What gives?

^ Love how this is tagged jQuery
@RebeccaChernoff Not a lot I can help, try sprinkling console.log and try catch blocks everywhere?
Maybe have a look at the favicon link element to see if the data URL is been injected properly?

> thingadongdong

Does the favicon switch back the normal visible one when you come back to the room?

@YiJiang <link rel="shortcut icon" type="image/png" href="data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAABAAAAAQCAYAAAAf8/9hAAAAlElEQVQ4EQXBgQAAAAAAEP/VAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAgEEAABJiyZuwAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==">
Yes, I see the regular favicon now.

@RebeccaChernoff Hmmm... that appears to be an invalid data URL

2:28 AM
@RebeccaChernoff That was evil of you :P

@TimStone I changed it back!

@YiJiang He had the answer the whole time, he just had to look at his tags!

Can I get this question unduped? The two questions have nothing to do with each other. meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/74372/…

Heheh ;)

@DanFabulich Title makes it seem like not a dupe, but reading the question it seems more like one?

2:30 AM
So the problem is not with the data URL injection, Chrome is somehow generating invalid data URLs
Okay, let me setup a debug build of the script and see if it works out

@RebeccaChernoff They address similar problems, kinda, but the solutions are completely different.

@YiJiang some people....!

@RebeccaChernoff My question suggests offering a non-anonymous way to express gratitude. (Upvoting is anonymous.) The other question suggests a way to pseudo-upvote before you have the reputation.

The community can cast re-open votes.

@RebeccaChernoff I see at least three swear words encoded in there. Accident? :)

2:33 AM
@Pekka Ah, she probably has "Safe Favicons" turned on then. That must be the problem.

@Pekka I just see someone screaming

I think it's pretty clear what this chunk is supposed to mean: ErkJ

@RebeccaChernoff Fosco is destroying me at Wordfeud. I need you to suspend him

Thought the pig latin would fool you. Dammit!
3

2:34 AM
@RebeccaChernoff I don't have 3k reputation on meta. Does that mean my question is dead?

@MichaelMrozek oy.

@MichaelMrozek Yeah, base64 indeed looks like that :)

@DanFabulich Tab to autocomplete

@YiJiang yup, got too trigger happy with the enter key :-)

@DanFabulich There are several people here that do and can cast votes if they so choose. (;

2:37 AM
@DanGrossman Is that like, um, double-ended or something?

@RebeccaChernoff May I politely ask you to cast a re-open vote? :-)

@DanFabulich No, since she's a mod her vote is overriding, so it won't be a 'community decision'

evening everyone good news!

@DanFabulich I missed most of the discussion, but this seems like a duplicate to me as well

Then, may I politely ask you to re-open it? @random was incorrect; it's not a dupe.

2:39 AM
@Zypher o:

I guess I should just read it

@RebeccaChernoff Try this build: dl.dropbox.com/u/1722364/Stack%20Overflow/… It has a lot of console.log's

@Zypher What, you have a job for me? ;)

yes ... i'm addicted to an incediably stupid game on my ipod that my friend pointed out to me
@GeorgeMarian not my department :-D

ha
What game?

2:40 AM
Game Dev Story

@Zypher Yah, that's just a bad joke I couldn't resist making. :)

Is it as fun as Drop7? (;

haha ... it shoudl be noted when i say good news (everyone)! it's in the same way that the professor in futurama says it

@Zypher LOL. A "Game Company Simulation."

hmm don't have it @RebeccaChernoff ... now i'm gonna have to get it

2:42 AM
@MichaelMrozek I think it's worth discussing the solution on the merits; but I don't think it's at all correct to call it a dupe.

@DanFabulich I guess the anonymity part technically makes it not a dupe, but they're pretty close
@RebeccaChernoff HA. That's on Android too

@MichaelMrozek Would it help if I rephrased it completely as "non-anonymous upvoting"?
@MichaelMrozek I think it helps to address "thanks" but there's a lot of great virtues in non-anonymous upvoting.

@DanFabulich Like...what? The whole "makes the submitter feel good" thing isn't affected by anonymity

@GeorgeMarian it's deceptivly addictive

@Zypher I must admit, I'm tempted.

2:45 AM
dooo eeeet

See comment about needing a job. :)

hmmmm

I haven't been in the mood to play anything in months.
That is, I'm afraid I wouldn't play it for very long.

woohoo ... it took 1 year and 7 months to get a "popular question" badge

@Zypher tis fun if you like that kind of game

2:47 AM
@MichaelMrozek I don't think chat is a good place to discuss this question. :-) If you think it's a bad idea, that's separate from saying "it's a dupe so it shouldn't be discussed at all."

It's like Tetris combined with Sudoku.

@RebeccaChernoff oh god
i'm going to have to leave my ipod at home i'll never be able to work

Is that good or bad?
hahahahaha

@MichaelMrozek But, to answer your question, getting thanked by somebody you respect is better than getting thanked by any anonymous person.

yeah...that's what I've found.

2:48 AM
ummm depends on who you ask ... i'm sure joel or jeff wouldn't think it's a good thing

Except...I work at home... (;
Actually it has really just cut in to my WwF time. q:

@DanFabulich In the rare case that people feel the need to un-anonymize themselves they'll just use a comment. I really don't think the proposals are sufficiently distinct to be worth it

@MichaelMrozek Getting upvoted by an expert means more than being upvoted by a random person with 15 rep.
@MichaelMrozek The whole point of the "Thanks!" problem is that those non-anonymizing comments are junk comments, which don't add to the discussion.

@Zypher Well I asked before your second line, hrmph

@DanFabulich The SO devs aren't going to take the time to add a special "thanks" button when people can just use comments

2:49 AM
@RebeccaChernoff haha let me go into the DB and fix the timelines then
yes ... i have the power to manipulate time ... i'm still working on space

@MichaelMrozek I find this conversation strange, because I think on the one hand you don't really like the idea -- and that's fine -- but for some reason you also think it has something to do with the other proposal. I think it has nothing to with the other proposal (other than addressing similar problems).

@DanFabulich Fine, I voted to reopen, but I can virtually guarantee there's no chance of it getting implemented, they don't like implementing stuff like this that already has an easy workaround

@MichaelMrozek Quora has both mechanisms, and I think it's an idea worth discussing. Closing it as a dupe inappropriately shuts down discussion, IMO. Bad feature requests should be downvoted, not closed as dupes.
@MichaelMrozek Thanks. :-)

What value does public thanking provide?

2:54 AM
I'm not sure that the actual discussion piece is different though, as far as whether or not a "Thank you" button, irrespective of implementation details, is necessary goes.

It feels like useless information that would take up space on an already relatively busy page.

@RebeccaChernoff @TimStone Being thanked publicly by an expert is worth more than being thanked by a random user with 15 rep.

Actually, in SE terms, getting an upvote is worth the same from everyone. (:

@RebeccaChernoff Yes, that's my point.

...erm?

2:56 AM
Experts are typically not the people who are reaching for the Thank You button, so I fail to see the point.

I'm arguing against your point, how is that your point? (:

@RebeccaChernoff It's worth more because it feels way better

@TimStone, exactly.

@RebeccaChernoff When an expert in the field thanks me for my answer, I know I did a good job.

@DanFabulich I either disagree or don't follow.

2:57 AM
@RebeccaChernoff His point is that your point implies that up voting isn't sufficient.

When I get a one point upvote from some anonymous person, I get a few points, but I don't get the same positive feeling.

Because there's no distinction.

@DanFabulich Ok, I disagree. Helping a noobie actually do something feels good.

@Zypher Evening! We're listening

IE, someone who can actually take and use and learn from my post.

2:58 AM
In SE, an upvote is an upvote. They're worth the same number of points. But it's not just about the points; it's about feeling like I made a real contribution. That's what "thanks" is all about.

@Pekka Apparently his good news was that he started playing Game Dev Story :P

@TimStone ah! Okay :)

@RebeccaChernoff How would that make me feel better? I wouldn't even know that it happened?

I thought he had some massive SO announcement
Like a new datacenter

@DanFabulich Upvotes, accepted answer.

2:59 AM
Or another new hire

Or a good pizza place with beer.

@Pekka There weren't enough this week as it was? (;

@Pekka I confused him with Jin and thought the Unix design was done :)

@RebeccaChernoff I think we miscommunicated again (oh the joys of arguing on chat instead of in long form :-p)

@Zypher Which reminds me, there is a pretty nice beer and pizza place in SW Philly, but I forget the name of it right now.

2:59 AM
@RebeccaChernoff Well, if your name is Rebecca Chernoff, I suppose there were ;)

oh ... i love and hate you kindle ... had to rma mine ... now it's saying "Can't open the book please delete and re-download" [sic]
GAHHH

@MichaelMrozek Yeah! :)

@RebeccaChernoff I was referring to Jeff's suggestion that newbies who can't upvote should just "Pay it forward" INSTEAD of expressing gratitude. They can't comment, they can't upvote, so they should just DO something (answer questions, plant a tree, whatever.)

@Zypher That's why I read paper books. :)

I should probably use my Kindle. It just sits around acting lonely.

3:00 AM
@Pekka yea I do that too but it's sooooo much easier to carry a kindle around with my 2 hour commute it makes a difference

@RebeccaChernoff That "Pay it forward" suggestion is particularly bad as a way of expressing gratitude; it goes against human nature.

@DanFabulich, if your proposal is for users without rep, how exactly do the experts in your proposal fit in? |:

@Zypher that's a point, I see

And if it is just for users with no rep, how is it not a duplicate of the question it was closed as a dupe of?

and honestly if it doesn' lose my place it's not horrible
i don't have re-pay just re-download

3:03 AM
If posts hit so many spam flags are they automatically deleted?

can't seem to find a cut and dry answer in MSO
What's the magic number?

ahh excellent it didn't lose my spot

3:06 AM
Is there no way to use Quora without logging in?

Ah, got it...one last thing; once it's done away with, does user -1 steal those downvotes?

@MichaelMrozek nope you can google around but you'll keep hitting the login wall
or direct links but when you try to navigate you will have to log in

What was the last site that graduated?

@RebeccaChernoff Programmers?

Didn't think that was it. Thought there was something after. shrugs

3:16 AM
I think they're in order from most recent to oldest here
But I'm not 100% on that.

They are. Just didn't feel right.

@MichaelMrozek You can Google Quora without logging in, but I don't think you can do much else without logging in.

Ah, yeah...I had hopped over there to check, heh.

I ended up making an account, I just figured there would be some way around it

After all, we really can't be sure ORDER BY BetaEndDate desc is truthful, can we?

3:18 AM
Then at least Unix and GIS have their designs pretty much done, so I guess they'll be up to bat soon, not sure what else is in the works.

@RebeccaChernoff & @MichaelMrozek nope

@RebeccaChernoff Hah ;)

@RebeccaChernoff In my proposal, anybody could use "Thanks", not just non-rep'd users.

@TimStone Apple's design is supposed to be up any day now

Hehehehe q:

You wanna tell me if the mode parameter on the /rooms/{id}/events route has any accepted values other than messages while you're sticking your nose in code? ;) Just kidding. :P

Heheh

Isn't it just /events anyway?

No, there's a separate path that's used to load the messages initially.
Well, from the client perspective anyway.

I've updated the question to clarify and make it hopefully even less dupe-y. meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/74372/…
@RebeccaChernoff Does that answer your questions? May I now ask you to vote to de-dupe it (even if you think it's the wrong thing)?

@TimStone Fiddler says I'm not requesting a url like that

@RebeccaChernoff You must not have been looking hard enough ;) POST /chats/89/events HTTP/1.1
Oh, well, that and I was wrong about what it was called.

you said /rooms (;

Already covered that! ;)

@DanFabulich Don't ask people to vote just to vote.

@RebeccaChernoff I was afraid I was crossing the line by asking for votes. So, the question is dead, right?

3:36 AM
I meant what you said
Oh wait, never mind, I mis-interpreted
even if you think it's the wrong thing: was thinking you meant even if you think it is a dupe, but you mean even if I disagree with the proposal

@DanFabulich It's not impossible to think that enough people would come along to reopen it, I suppose.
Admittedly I don't see that as being very likely, since both questions talk about the concept of a "Thank You" button, which is really the focus of discussion. Everything else, as far as who gets to use it and how it's implemented is mostly just filler. But, I've been wrong before, so who knows.

@RebeccaChernoff Yes, I meant that you might disagree with the proposal but still agree that it's not a dupe. Oh, well.

Answers seem to apply to both questions though.

A: Use upvote button for "Thank You" if you don't have enough rep

randomBetter yet, swap out the voting box for a Herp Derp button (apparently it's also called a Facebook Like button) that people can just click on instead. Bring in that "Tweet this!" popup while you're at it. The people who need to vomit a post or comment of "Thanks!" instead of paying it forward ar...

Hm, @radp down voting that answer reminds me that Geoff Dalgas (I think) is still in need of /blame...
